Exactly so. Listen to your users. "we don't do preferences" is an absurdly arrogant line to take, as it necessarily involves you in the assumption that you know better than anyone else, and that your preferences are better. This can be guaranteed to be false. Add-ons and plugins are not the answer i n relation to the fundamentals of usability. A browser that fails to provide this feature is broken.

Some time ago, I put a DVD-R (MBI) into the freezer for a few minutes. After taking it out, some moisture formed. I put it into an aged TSSTcorp WriteMaster SH-S182 optical drive (that occasionally detects recorded DVD-R as empty) and it detected it as DVD-RAM! Later, I tried to reproduce this glitch, but was not able to.

== Instagram == Sometimes, when you delete a picture, it's just because you feel like that. You don't think, that the whole photo, the whole conversation in the comment, the likes, and the metadata will vanish forever, if iGram has no secret paradise of deleted stuff, such as YouTube probably has. Nobody will ever know about the existence of that photo. It will open a gap in your Instagram timeline. But please keep in mind, that if you think, that they don't want to see that picture, they just look away. They do not bother with it. Additionally, if you do not want a picture in the foreground of your Instagram page, and want to delete it for that reason, you may regret it, bout posting it again would put it in the upper line of Instagram again. Think carefully. If you want to delete pictures, download them first, or screenshot them, if you do not have a copy of them. Make sure, that the picture does not vanish completely or you'll probably regret a mistake. Instagram hint: before blocking somebody, ALWAYS warn him with direct messaging first. Most of the times, Instagram users doing mistakes don't know that. Sometimes, mistakes seem obvious to be done deliberately, but they might not be the case. Always warn before blocking. Do not repeat the mistake of #آدریانیذن. I positively commented his pictures, and he blocked me. I wrote an apology, which has the length of 23924 characters, but I decided not to send it. I mentioned, that I did not know, that my comments were probably not welcome. I thought that he would be pleased about my comments, because they were equal to his opinion. He has proven, that he is not tolerant at all. It is not recommended to rename your Instagram account. First of all, all comments, where your name is mentioned, will now link to a dead account. And some people might have trouble finding you. Instagram hint: Instead of sharing photos through direct messaging, you may mention the name of the users, who you want to show the picture, down into the comments below. This has a huge advantage, because next to subjective comments, more sharings in the comments will keep the Instagram's page operator more motivated. Since Instagram V7, which brought the new direct messaging, it's been much easier to share photos instantly using direct messages. But this reduced the number of comments dramatically. So think about that. Because it's now a bit easier since Instagram version 7, which was introduced about a year ago, to share photos with DM than @mentioning names in the comments, many people used that way. But I recommend using the comments, to keep the page's operators motivated.
== April fools == humor === 1 === Failedpassed is a term which gained popularity over an internet meme on Reddit. It jokingly describes a situation in which a task or action was completed in an unsatisfactory way. It gained popularity over a Reddit meme in which a bogus computer program printed the phrase: You failedpassed the test. The mathematical operators of the program was designed in a way to print the word passed with a test score greater than or equal to 85%, and failed if less than or equal to 85%. Because the test score has been exactly 85%, both conditions were fulfilled, thus both words printed. "2006-02-17":"TTbyoEn9Viw" === 2 === Advice: This collection is very beautiful and nice. I really appreciate all the work that was put into something the giant archive of virusses. But there are two things that I wanted to mention: 1. I guess that at least ten percents of Daniel White's viruses are not included into the virus package. This is no real problem, but I just wanted you to know that. Some of them are: Halen, ShtVirus, Viewer-Made Malware: (http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLi_KYBWS_E73gG80A5YFjf8ww5H8aJvAl - one of them is open-source :) ) ; Kerstin, Best, Implant, FaceBook Worm (deleted PdVaUOmFh0E), etc. [color=White]Betaarchive Links: [url]http://www.betaarchive.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=32287[/url] + [url]http://www.betaarchive.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11721[/url] [/color] There might be some videos from other YouTubers (like TomKtw or RogueAmp or Xylibox) that contain some virusses, that this collection does not include. Additionally, vx-archiv.at could have some excluded viruses. 2. There is an Ambul.com from a different website, which seems to be a bit different than the one from this virus collection. Link: old-dos.ru/index.php?page=files&mode=files&do=show&id=1296 (Warning: [b]Russian Webpage![/B]). It does always display the Ambulance Simulator screen. The version from VX-Heaven (VxH) does sometimes display the following message [b]Hashes:[/B] However, this virus collection is really enjoyable, as long as you don't touch CiH on a vulnerable computer. 3. I have an EXE-Version of Skism (which is a screensaver and no real virus), that I found somewhere. I also have a collection of tons of rogue antivirusses. If anybody is interested, feel free to tell me. :) Before iForget: 4. 5. Here are two antivirus programs (Kaspersky and Avira) scanning through 5922 Virusses: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LyXhaEU56uk (CopyCat Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fj36M03OEXg) I am not sure, whether VX-Heaven's virus archive includes all of them. === 3 === humor Strange japanese character somewhere changes font.

In user interface design, Animation creep is the overuse of animations in user interfaces, commonly unfold animations. == Examples == * Starting at Android Lollipop, the quick setting interface that can be pulled down from the top of the screen has an unfold animation where icons often change their place, especially the second level (show more quick options) of Android 7, which shows only 9 icons in vertical view and only 4 icons per page in horizontal view and 5 icons when not expandedVideo by Android Authority: [youtube.com/watch?v=6JKve8YLwu4&t=1m Android 7.0 Nougat Overview: All the features, none of the fluff].. These icons move to different places throughout the retraction of the menus. ** The user is not able to interact with the menu until the unfold animation has finished. ** There is no bottom part to provide visual feedback about grabbing the menu. ** In comparison, the TouchWiz quick menu from early 2013 has the ability to show every available option at once, and these icons stay in place instead of moving around in odd directions.[img.gadgethacks.com/img/93/15/63544049853031/0/unlock-galaxy-s5-notification-panel-quick-settings-your-galaxy-s4.w1456.jpg Screeshot from Samsung Galaxy S4 (2013)] TouchWiz user interface.. "Deletion Gestapo" and "Deletion Nazi" are terms used by frustrated contributors to Wiki-type websites and blogs, referring to any (allegedly) overly-exuberant contributor who is quick to delete Wiki articles or blog entries. This article focuses on Wikis rather than blogs. ==Origin of the Terms== The "Deletion Gestapo" and "Deletion Nazi" terms (and sometimes "Deletion Police" or "Deletion Mafia") came about largely due to repeated frustration by online encyclopedia and blog contributors who have their entries deleted or flagged for deletion.[www.pixelmutt.blogspot.com/] Pixelmutt, "Attention: Moron Alert" ["Deletion Police"][forums.puzzlepirates.com/community/mvnforum/printthread;jsessionid=2qkcdnjf86lr0?thread=38493&offset=30] MVN Forum, "Piratical Parley and Politics," Thread: Wiki Stupidity ["deletion police"][rubechat.kfan.com] Rubechat, "re: Challenge to the admins" Also known in more civil terms as "deletionists",[meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Deletionist] Wikipedia:Deletionist some related terms, "revert wars" and "edit wars" were coined referring to situations where contributors fight madly to change articles back and forth. Academic blogger and Vexi/XWT project originator Adam Megacz uses the term Deletion Gestapo to refer to people who delete "anything that can’t be validated using the first four hits from a one-word search on Google." He continues: "Kinda sad. Other obvious reasons:Wikipedia Deletion policy :* Advertising :* Propaganda or advocacy :* Violation of copyright :* Content, especially negative content, that is not verifiable to a reliable source * Inappropriate for an encyclopaedia. From Wikipedia, "Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia. This means that lots of things that are useful are excluded because they don't belong in an encyclopaedia. A list of all the phone numbers in New York would be useful, but are not included because Wikipedia is not a directory (we have Yellowikis for that). A page defining the word useful would be useful but is not included because Wikipedia is not a dictionary (we have Wiktionary for that). A guide to the best restaurants in Paris would be useful but is not included because Wikipedia is not a travel guide (there is a Wikitravel for that)." * Minimum threshold of notability - contributors may flag such articles for deletion from a Wiki. For Wikipedia, see Wikipedia:Notability. ==Reasons for Inclusion== There are many "inclusionist" arguments from Deletion Gestapo "victims". Writers often speak of how powerfully liberating their first contribution felt. Similarly, writers can feel frustrated, disempowered, and victimized after creating an article, only to see it disappear, even when sufficiently cited and notable according to official 'pedia policies. Writers justify their position by quoting the various policies for inclusion and deletion:
For Wikipedia policies: * Decorum and politeness. Wikipedia urges any contributor to read the Wikipedia:Deletion policy before deleting or nominating an article for deletion. It says "When in doubt, discuss first on the talk page." (Discussing on the talk page before flagging for deletion is rarely done.) * Policies and guidelines. Wikipedia encourages contributors to "edit in good faith," show civility, seek consensus, and work towards the goal of creating a great encyclopedia. * Criteria for notability. Wikipedia policy on notability says that "notable" is defined as "worthy of being noted" or "attracting notice"; it is not synonymous with "fame" or "importance". This defense is given when the person flagging the deletion claims that an article is "minor" or "isn't needed". (There are no WP criteria for whether an article is "needed".) Notability criteria do not equate to personal or biased considerations, such as: "never heard of this," or "page does not meet the Wikipedia notability requirements" without explaining why. * Wikipedia goal. Wikipedia's goal is stated as follows: "The goal of this project is to ensure that Wikipedia has a corresponding article for every article in every other general purpose encyclopedia available...". For Wiktionary policies: * "All words" policy. "As an international dictionary, Wiktionary is intended to include 'all words in all languages'" * "Multilingual". "Wiktionary is, above all, a multilingual dictionary". Wiktionary criteria for exclusion cites such things as vandalism, protologisms, "belongs in Wikisaurus", and Wiktionary is "not an encyclopedia", etc. ==Other deletionism== ====YouTube links==== Many contributors delete YouTube links, (incorrectly) citing WP Youtube policy, which was only proposed - and rejected. ====Screenshots==== The policy for Screenshots is clouded by legal issues of copyright. Screenshots and other art are often deleted from Wiki articles for copyright concerns. Wikipedia policy may be found at this link: [[en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Image_use_policy] ==Neutrality== Maintaining a neutral point of view in articles can be difficult for any knowledgeable or passionate writer, but is essential. WP:NPOV policy requires views to be represented without bias. Types of bias include: Class, Commercial advertising, Ethnic or racial: racism, Geographical, Nationalistic, Gender, and Political. ==Footnotes== ==References== * [www.freethehops.org/board/viewtopic.php?p=6079&sid=b3683aaa02413e8936d483bfd27c25fe] The Hops Community ["...deletion Nazi and needs to be put in check."] * [en.wiktionary.org/wiki/deletionist] Deletionist at Wiktionary * [the-manchester-morgue.blogspot.com/2006/12/morgue-wants-youto-try-and-help-me-out.html] The Morgue Wants You.....to try and help me out with some requests ["deletion-Nazis"] * [blogs.telegraph.co.uk/technology/iandouglas/sep2007/wiki-delete.htm] Daily Telegraph (UK) blog article which suggests that over-enthusiastic deletionists are causing Wikipedia to stagnate. Welcome!

Welcome to my adoptee's classroom! Adoption usually involves a lengthy process (anywhere between 1-3 months) in which you will ask me any questions you have about Wikipedia (on your corresponding question page), whether it be about coding, policies, or just questions in general. During this period, I'll be in regular touch with you, giving you comments about editing and suggestions. Once you and I feel that you are satisfactorily learned about Wikipedia, you'll be an "experienced" editor! Cheers! -download | sign! Totd-random
    Lesson 1: Basic formatting

Wikipedia uses unique Wiki markup, which allows you to format text. For example: *Bold text gives Bold text *Italics text gives Italics text *Bold and Italics text gives Bold and italics text More Wiki markup: *Wikipedia gives Wikipedia *[www.live.com Live Search] gives [www.live.com Live Search] *Strike-through text gives Strike-through text *Superscript text gives Superscript text *Subscript text gives Subscript text *Small text gives Small text Now try using these tags at the sandbox. For more information see Wikipedia:Formatting#Wiki markup or Help:Wiki markup.
    Lesson 2: Namespaces

In Wikipedia jargon, a namespace is that part of the Wikipedia database where all the data of a particular kind are stored. This definition applies to all wikis that use the MediaWiki software. Namespaces are like folders in a filing cabinet — or on your hard drive. The main namespace, for example, contains all of the encyclopedia articles and past versions of those articles. Likewise, the user namespace contains the personal pages of registered Wikipedia editors (for example, your userpage). Wikipedia has 18 basic namespaces and 2 custom namespaces. With the exception of the main namespace, each namespace has its own prefix (such as "Wikipedia:" or "User:"). Some namespaces have abbreviations that you can use instead of a full prefix to identify the namespace in a search or edit (for example, "WP:" instead of "Wikipedia:" and "WT:" instead of "Wikipedia talk:"). For more information see Wikipedia:Namespace.
    Lesson 3: Talk Pages

    * What's the meaning of a talk page? To let multiple users collaborate on improving an article * How do I get there? Every page has its own "discussion" tab, just click on it. * How do I ask a question, start a discussion or make a comment? Click on the "new section" tab. * How do I contribute to a discussion? Scroll down to the right discussion, and click [edit]. Nearly every page on Wikipedia also has a talk page (also known as a discussion page). A talk page is a space for editors to discuss improvements to articles and other pages. Talk pages are named the same as their associated pages, the only difference being that they have "Talk:" before their name. For example, there is one page called "Australia", which contains the article on the continent of Australia. There is also a page called Talk:Australia, where discussion occurs about possible improvements to the article page. User pages also have associated talk pages (for example, "User talk:Download"). Those pages are also intended for discussion; only in that case, the discussion might not relate to an article. When another editor needs to contact you, they will usually do this by leaving a message on your talk page. You will be notified when someone leaves you a message that way, with a notice the next time you access a page in Wikipedia. For more information, see WIkipedia:Talk page.
    Lesson 4: Templates

Templates often look like text boxes with a different background color from that of normal text. They are in the template namespace, i.e. they are defined in pages with "Template:" in front of the name. For example, consider the template Template:Disambig (follow the link to see the page where it can be edited). To insert the template's content into an article, type Disambig in the wiki page ( Disambig is called a template tag ). Every article with that tag in it will display the following text: ::{|style="background:none; border: 1px dotted black; padding: 5px;" width="80%" |style="vertical-align:middle;"| |style="vertical-align:middle;"|This disambiguation page lists articles associated with the same title. If an [ internal link] led you here, you may wish to change the link to point directly to the intended article. |} This technique is commonly known as transclusion. Templates can also include calculated and substituted elements, as well as parameters, allowing for complex usage. For a table of some useful templates, see Wikipedia:Template messages. For detailed templating documentation see m:Help:Template. There are two major ways to include custom messages, Your message and '. makes a copy of the message text and places it where you put the tag after you save an article (substitution). In other words, when the message is updated, you do not need to update a page that uses it if you use Your message. As a guideline, short temporary messages that will be removed soon should be copied using subst (which has the advantage of showing the message in the wiki source), and standard notices that might remain on a page for months or forever should be transcluded for easy updating. (You should not use Your message for a message which contains any links which may change in the future. This method doesn't refresh "What links here" unless every article containing the Your message gets changed after the modification of the link in the message.) If you need to edit the template message individually after you put it on your page, use subst. If you don't need to edit it, and would rather the message is automatically updated along with changes made to the template, don't use subst. Now try transcluding and substituting cleanup at the sandbox. Afterwards, see the difference by editing the sandbox again. For more information, see Wikipedia:Template namespace.
    Lesson 5: User Scripts

A user script is a piece of JavaScript code executed on Wikipedia pages. Scripts can make navigation easier and simplify common maintenance tasks. To import a user script, add the code to your monobook.js. For more information, see Wikipedia:WikiProject User scripts/Scripts. Now try importing my prose tool to your monobook.js.
