I don't have a single method for coming up with ideas when drawing manga, but the catalyst for this story was Yuuko-san’s visual design. I started by sketching a bunch of girls’ faces on paper, thinking, "This kind of girl would be cute, right?" Then, I built on that by imagining things like, "This girl probably has this kind of personality," based on the vibe of her design, fleshing out the character bit by bit. One time, as I was doodling and brainstorming at a cafe, a friend pointed at Yuuko-san’s face and said, "This girl looks like she’d work at a cafe! She’s probably awkward and doesn't know how to express herself…" That sparked all sorts of inspiration, and this work was born! Lying to someone so that they worry about you is a bit iffy in real life, but whether or not Mio-san will escalate things depends on how Kazu-kun as well… Hang in there, Kazu-kun. 07 据膳の食べ方 07 How to Respond to Someone’s Advances - comic Anthurium Vol. 49 バイト先の気になる先輩が実は自分を狙ってた…！みたいなお話です。縦リブっぽい服っていいですよね…いい…。1作目の「笑顔の作り方」もそうなんですが、この作品は線画をアナログで作業しました。ネーム段階では紙にラフを描いたり、PC上でデジタルで描いたあとプリントアウトして、トレース台で透かしながらペン入れをするという工程です。アナログで描いた原稿はスキャンしたあとに色調補正やごみ取りなどの作業量が重いため、段々デジタルペン入れに移行していきました。漫画を見てる方が気づくもんかはわかりませんが、作業としてはやはりデジタルで完結できるととっても楽ですね…!
