A list of supposed clues scattered inside the web novel that support said theory often gets posted in forum discussions about the slash pairing. Among these clues, the most notorious ones are that Mo Lifeng is never interested in any of the beautiful women he meets during his journey, that he was extremely doting on Weng Guohai when they were kids, that he hid Weng Guohai's body from the rest of the cultivation world to protect him, and that he even preserved it with his own spiritual energy so he could hold Weng Guohai in his arms while he elaborated his grief. Fans also cite the scene where Mo Lifeng gives Weng Guohai a proper burial as an example of peak romantic angst. \n\nSupporters of this theory believe KW dropped these hints about Mo Lifeng's sexuality while playing 4D chess with the strict Chinese censorship. While not innovative, the web novel has gained a huge following on the internet for its meaningful villains and side characters nonetheless. TCGM also has its share of haters who vocally bash the author for its overly verbose, soulless prose and the bullshit plot armor that seems attached to Mo Lifeng.\n\nIn the latest published narrative arc, Mo Lifeng discovered that the Demon Lord who had been terrorizing the cultivation world for years is none other than his sworn brother Weng Guohai, whom he thought had died tragically in the past. After a long and violent battle, Mo Lifeng tearfully kills Weng Guohai and hides his body from the rest of the cultivation world to give his sworn brother a peaceful burial and a last farewell. The sect is situated on the highest peak of a mountain range known as Bai Yun Mountain, and it was founded a millennium prior the events of the novel to seal and watch over the Rancor Depths, a colossal, jagged chasm that functions as a portal between the Human and Demon Realm where a cataclysmic clash between righteous cultivators and hordes of abyssal demons took place in the past.\n\nDemonic beasts and malevolent energies still linger inside the chasm, which are slowly being purified by the barrier arrays that seal it. Since the Sect is so very near to the Heavens, the terrain naturally collects the essence of the heavens, making cultivation easier. As a child, he was small, very timid, and prone to tears. Weng Guohai was physically weak; he possessed Wood and Earth spiritual roots of mediocre aptitude, which are considered fairly common and provided him with minimal advantage in cultivation. What Weng Guohai lacked, however, was talent. Thus, no matter how hard he applied himself, he was destined to always be a step behind his peers. Due to his looks and personality, he was constantly targeted by bullies so, for a long time, he relied on Mo Lifeng for protection. However, this changed when he started perceiving his Mo-ge as wanting to distance himself from a dead weight like him. Weng Guohai became stubborn and prideful, the kind of boy who would ruthlessly fight with his tormentors just to have the satisfaction of hitting them back. After he was beaten within an inch of his life, he stopped crying entirely. \n\nIn the plot of TCGM, Weng Guohai turns into a vengeful and great demonic cultivator after being \"abandoned\" by his sworn brother Mo Lifeng when a Heavenly Tribulation struck Heavenly Peak Sect—Weng Guohai had come looking for Mo Lifeng instead of running away, and found his gege protecting a bunch of junior disciples, when he should've only cared about protecting his family and his life—and falling into the Rancor Depths. He survived alone in the depths for many years by absorbing the malevolent energies within the Depths and feeding on the corpses of the yao beasts he slayed on his search for a way out.\n\nWeng Guohai's ruthlessness and obsession with getting revenge against Mo Lifeng have made him one of the most popular characters in the TCGM fandom. Even after his death, people still post about him, discuss his character development, and his complex relationship with Mo Lifeng.\n\nAs a child, Weng Guohai used to cling to Mo Lifeng and call him gege, or Mo-ge. In the web novel, he died unexpectedly, and his position was later passed on to Mo Lifeng. His death happens \"off-screen\", and is only told in a couple of sentences at the beginning of a chapter.\n\nYue Yaochen was truly a beautiful man, the epitome of an ethereal immortal untouched by worldly affairs. He had very long, flowing, ink-black hair, fine masculine features, and crystal clear green eyes. He turned so extremely ugly in his illness that most of those who knew him could hardly even recognize his face. An elusive kind of man, Yue Yaochen was also a highly eccentric character who seldom spoke to those he deemed unsightly, and supposedly possessed a strength that was rivaled only by his wisdom. Despite his peculiar personality, he was respected and admired by the whole jianghu.\n\nUnbeknownst to both the readers of TCGM and the characters of the novel themselves, Yue Yaochen was a dangerous, sick individual who fell deeply in love with Mo Lifeng's beauty the moment he saw him take part in the trials for joining Heavenly Peak Sect. Yue Yaochen appeared to shower Mo Lifeng with affection and praise, but his 'love' was a form of psychological and physical abuse. He was extremely strict, controlling, and possessive of his disciple, who originally believed his shizun had only his best interest at heart. He enforced rules that isolated Mo Lifeng from his martial siblings, punishing him for any sign of closeness with others. He forced Mo Lifeng to live and sleep in the same bed with him, and insisted on intrusive, intimate acts like bathing and dressing him. His behavior was the source of Mo Lifeng's deep trauma and the heart demon that blocked his cultivation progress for some time, which he resolved during his adventures outside Heavenly Peak Sect. However, none of this was ever explicitly mentioned in TCGM; there are only some 'clues' in the novel about what was going on behind the scenes which little to no readers seem to have picked up on.\n\nIt's never explicitly mentioned in TCGM how Yue Yaochen died, but the characters in the story believed it was due to the Sect Leader contracting a curse when he carelessly brandished Jiusi, as the weapon's demonic origins were still a mystery at the time. To most readers, though, it's just a convenient plot hole. KW wanted Mo Lifeng to become Sect Leader, so they made up some bullshit excuse to eliminate Yue Yaochen from the story.\n\nHowever, KW tries to suggest through subtle changes in Mo Lifeng's behavior that it was he who murdered his shizun with a poison he acquired during his time at the Southern Border. This poison took away Yu Yaochen's senses, and then mutated his body until he was naught but a disgusting, malodorous mass covered in pustules; everyone pitied him, but they were too disgusted with his form to help him. Except for Mo Lifeng. The sect is built around the Rancor Depths, a vast chasm and site of a legendary battle between cultivators and demons that happened a millennium ago. Barrier arrays both seal the chasm and purify the lingering malevolent energies emanating from it. Disciples of the sect wear blue robes with an insignia of a seven-pointed golden star.","constant":false,"selective":true,"insertion_order":100,"enabled":true,"position":"before_char","use_regex":true,"extensions":{"position":0,"exclude_recursion":false,"display_index":3,"probability":100,"useProbability":true,"depth":4,"selectiveLogic":0,"group":"","group_override":false,"group_weight":100,"prevent_recursion":false,"delay_until_recursion":false,"scan_depth":null,"match_whole_words":null,"use_group_scoring":false,"case_sensitive":null,"automation_id":"","role":0,"vectorized":false,"sticky":0,"cooldown":0,"delay":0,"match_persona_description":false,"match_character_description":false,"match_character_personality":false,"match_character_depth_prompt":false,"match_scenario":false,"match_creator_notes":false}},{"id":5,"keys":["Villain","Weng Guohai"],"secondary_keys":[],"comment":"Weng Guohai","content":"Weng Guohai is the weak, bullied deuteragonist of TCGM who later turns into a vengeful and great demonic cultivator after being abandoned by his sworn brother Mo Lifeng in the Rancor Depths.
