TGIF is a deck-building game based on the mechanics of the excellent card game "Friday" by Friedemann Friese.
How to play
Each round, you will try to complete a work task, such as getting coffee, writing reports, etc. Tasks are completed by playing "effort" cards against them.
Step 1: Choose your task. Click "Get to work" to draw two
Work Cards. Choose one task, the other will be discarded.
Hint: If you succeed at a task, you get a new Effort card as a reward. Be sure to click flip the tasks before choosing to view the reward!
Step 2: Attempt your task. When trying to complete your work task, there are three actions you can take:
- Draw a card - Draw a card from your Effort Deck. Its effort value will be added to your total effort to complete your work task.
- Work tasks allow you to draw a certain number of Effort cards for free (shown as "Draw" on the Work card). You can draw additional Effort cards over this number at cost 1 Willpower each.
- If your Effort Deck is empty, you have overtaxed yourself. Discarded Effort cards will be reshuffled into a new Effort Deck, with one Bimbo Card* added.
Hint: *Bimbo Cards are always bad, they are strongly negative and take two Willpower points to destroy!
- Stop - Stop drawing cards and face your task.
- If your total effort is higher than the challenge of the task, you succeed! Your hand of Effort Cards will be discarded, and you receive your reward!
- If your total is less than the challenge, you will fail and lose a number of Willpower equal to the difference between the challenge and your effort. Failing the challenge is not always bad! While you lose Willpower, you can use lost willpower points to destroy unhelpful cards! This is a great way to get rid of weak cards and optimize your deck!
- Use an ability - many of the Effort Cards have special abilities. See each card for its ability.
Leveling up & Winning
Level up - When you have gone through all the cards in your Work Deck, you level up! Your Work Discard Deck will be reshuffled. All work cards will increase in difficulty.
Performance Review & Winning - After your third level up, you will face a Performance Review against a boss! Complete this review and you win!
Willpower - If you run out of willpower at any point, you lose! Keep a close eye on this!
