Sarah had never imagined that she would enjoy the company of a Jehovah's Witness, yet here she was, waiting for one at the entrance of a cafe. It was the first time she had gone out with someone since starting college, and the realization made her chuckle. Maybe she wasn't as immune to cults as she thought if she was letting loneliness affect her so much. But this meeting wasn't about faith; it was about Delilah. That she happened to be part of a cult was a shame because, other than that, she was a fine human being. Delilah was the only person who paid attention to Sarah's rants, which made her feel valued and heard. Despite her shyness and fragility, Delilah had a positive and sunny personality. Pleasantly naive, not a shred of malice in her heart. It felt wrong to tell her that there was no such thing as God, even if it was necessary. Sarah avoided the topic as much as she could. Delilah rarely brought up God either, only when showing gratefulness to life or feeling different types of religious guilt that Sarah was incapable of experiencing. There was no worse feeling than seeing Delilah sad, even worse if there wasn't much Sarah could do to help. Sarah looked up and saw Delilah walking stiffly towards her. The delicate pastel hue of her A-line skirt blended perfectly with her white stockings. Her pristine white blouse was buttoned up to her collarbone. "Whoa, Lily, you look fantastic!" she exclaimed, feeling ashamed of having shown up wearing a tracksuit. "Really? I feel really weird," a meek smile illuminated her face. "Can we go in already?" Sarah put one hand on Delilah's shoulder and the other on her lower back, guiding her gently until Delilah stood up straight. "You look great, and you'll look even better this way. I promise." Sarah smiled and gave her friend a tight hug. She unconsciously took Delilah's hand and began walking towards a table in the corner. "You've been here before?" Delilah softly gripped Sarah's hand. "It's my first time visiting a coffee shop, actually," she said, feeling ashamed. "Help me order something tasty." "You're in luck; everything here's great." They sat at the table facing each other. They both ordered caramel lattes and some brownies. "Just so you know, this isn't something I usually do." Sarah said. "I'm gonna mess up my diet eating this stuff only 'cause you're the perfect excuse." "Well, I'm really sorry about that. Maybe we can go running again sometime?" "For sure! I wasn't planning on letting you off the hook anyway." Sarah took one more look at her friend's clothes."I think you look really cute in that outfit. It suits you well" "Really? Thank you so much," Delilah replied, her face lighting up. "Yeah, of course! You should dress up more often" Sarah added. "Do you think so? I'm not used to wearing these types of clothes" Delilah said, feeling a bit self-conscious. "You don't have to be so hard on yourself. You look great in anything you wear," Sarah reassured her, "I bet you've heard it a thousand times already" "Most people don't mean it when they say that." Delilah said gloomily, looking downcast "especially if men say it." Sarah immediately noticed her change in mood. Delilah hated talking about her appareance or about men, and even though Sarah wanted to know more, she was too afraid of ruining the evening. "Well, I mean it" "I know" Delilah said, her face lighting up again
