Question about a Seizure

Postby Jay Feely » Thu Oct 09, 2014 6:05 pm

Would I get arrested for driving after a seizure in Texas?
because I had a seizure on September 2nd. My doctor said I should not drive for 6 months.
You will have to subdue me to restrain me. I been a bad boy so make sure you torture me too with anything but pain.

Being arrested should be the least of your worries.

Haven't you stopped to think of 'what if I have another seizure'? That is why your doctor has told you not to drive for 6 months, as a precaution in case this wasn't a one off incident.

At least in the UK, you are forbidden from applying for a driving licence if you have health conditions that may cause you to lose bodily control. My friend's girlfriend has a form of epilepsy. When she has an attack, she blanks out for a couple of seconds. Can you imagine what the result of that could be if she had been driving at the time of an attack?

By seizure I am assuming you mean you lost total body control, with fitting etc. Imagine what would happen if you had a seizure while driving. You lose control of your body, and your vehicle.

The advice may have legal consequences if you are pulled over and it is discovered you had medical advice to not drive.

But really, this is for your own safety, as well as every other vehicle driver on the road.

Just Wondering?

Does your local area have public transportation? It might be worth your while
to see if it goes where you need to go.

I pretty much agree with all the previous responses posted here. A relation of mine had some seizure activity but with meds they have not recurred for years now.

We don't know (and don't need to know) what occurred over a month ago that caused you to see a doctor. That visit shows it was an important issue. You had better follow his advice and don't get behind the wheel of your car until he gives you the all clear. Otherwise, you could loose your license permanently if you have a serious accident caused by a momentary loss of attention. Give the doctor a chance to attend to your condition!

Also, keep your appointments. It may be helpful to keep a little notebook and pencil with you in which you make a note of your experience every day even if you don't recognize having a seizure incident. Such a record over time could be helpful to physician. You could make note:
..... "Oct.11, Saturday. Noticed nothing unusual today."
..... "Oct.12, Sunday. Nothing unusual today."
..... "Oct.13, Monday. 8 a.m. Drew myself a glass of water at kitchen sink. When I turned, the glass slipped out of my hand and fell to the floor."
..... "Oct.13, Monday. 9 a.m. My mom told me I forgot to flush toilet after I used it
a few minutes ago."
..... "Nothing unusual the rest of day."

Glad you are getting medical treatment!
