Aaron had knelt down beside me to say that he would treat me equally amongst the others, and that he did not blame me for this unpleasant turn of events. Though I could see from his eyes that he held me partially responsible for undermining the authority of almost his entire fraternity. I was still collared and handcuffed, sitting in a chair in my underwear. There were two orange jumpsuit prisoners handcuffed to the wall in front of me (Danny and Mason), each with their own shock collar. Sam had carried a straitjacket-clad John out of the room because John had not decided to play along with Aaron's "restructuring" plan. Both of them were wearing their own shock collars, but only John was the one getting shocked by it from his attempts to scream for help. Aaron stood up and murmured something about having to take care of me on his own while Sam was out. He increased the sensitivity of the shock collar to the highest point, saying that he didn't want any fun business; the slightest noise from me would result in a painful shock, which would probably cause me to scream louder, resulting in continuous shocks. It's a vicious cycle.
The next few seconds were a blur. Aaron stood me up, released one of my hands from the handcuffs and had me fitted inside an prisoner jumpsuit. The cuffs went back on, only this time in front of me. I was then walked/pushed towards the wall with the other inmates, and my handcuffs were attached to a chain which pulled my arms above my head. Aaron gave an extra tug, so now I was standing on the tips of my bare toes. I looked to my left and saw both Mason and Danny, with solemn faces looking downward. Aaron looked around to see if Sam had come back, then sighed and said that he had to continue. He started to strip! I thought back to when I was first attacked by these guys: each of them were wearing police costumes, but Aaron had something else underneath. Aaron pulled off his top layer to reveal his very own orange jumpsuit. "A restructuring of the fraternity means that everyone must undergo evaluation, including me." Mason, Danny, and I were all confused. Aaron completed his transformation into a prisoner, removing his shoes and adding the handcuffs in front of him. He stood next to Mason, so the farthest away from me, and attached the chain and brought his arms above his head. We were now all chained to the wall. The only people left in the frat unchained were Sam and John, who were doing their own thing. And Cody, wherever he was.
Just then, the door to the room flew open. I saw Sam, John, and Cody. John was no longer in the straitjacket and police gear. He had been stripped completely nude, wearing only a basic pair of handcuffs behind his back, along with his collar. Sam was in his own prisoner jumpsuit and collar, but no handcuffs. Cody also wearing a prisoner jumpsuit, but had no collar or handcuffs on him. John was tossed by Sam into the middle of the room. I saw red marks all along his back, and he made a whining sound when his back hit the floor, which caused him to get a shock. Sam (or Cody?) must have done a good job with the restructuring because John took the shock like a trooper, not making a sound. Sam walked past John and took his place next to Aaron, making Sam the farthest person away from me now.
Cody took a few steps into the room to speak, "When there is something that disrupts the fraternity so much as to undermine the discipline of a majority of its members, all of the fraternity members must undergo a series of tests to determine their role when the fraternity is repaired. As we know, there are two roles: top and bottom. Right now we, except John here, are all set to be tops. If any of us assert ourselves above the others in the tests, then we earn the right to be the tops, or leaders of this fraternity. Bottoms are responsible for searching for new members, which aside from me, none of us have done in the past few weeks. During Hell Week, none of the bottoms in this frat brought any pledges that could handle the initiation. The tops are charged with leading the members of this frat to a higher position in life, ensuring discipline in school work, interviews, and eventually our careers. Mason and Aaron have failed this fraternity as our previous tops, since they did not ensure the correct amount of discipline and order in our member."
I looked along the rows and could see what Cody meant by the "roles". Aaron was obviously the leader of the frat, while Mason was s secondary leader. That explains why he was so vicious towards Sam and me when the plan was not followed. Sam and Cody must have been bottoms, since they were the quieter, more passive members. Danny and John, however, could have been tops, but it's more likely they were bottoms since they waited for Aaron to leave before attempting to play with Mason and I. Cody went on, "All of us are now bottoms, which means we will be treated the same. As per our fraternity's guidelines for when events like this happen, I have asked former fraternity members, now alumni of our school, to return today in a few hours to help each of us find our true role in our frat. They will be responsible for testing and judging each of us, either as a group or individually, to determine who among us will be a better set of tops to guide us and structure us for success. With that being said, there are just two loose ends." Cody turned to John, who was still huddled up on the floor. "You have shown a brash display of disobedience, John. Given the circumstances of last night and this morning, you are given the choice right now of whether you want to stay or not. You, Sam, and I had a long talk about this earlier, with one swat from the paddle for each shock you gave yourself by not following Aaron's orders. Do you wish to stay for the testing, or is this fraternity just not what you want out of life?" John looked up at the wall of prisoners, thought long and hard, then stood up. He shook his head and walked towards the wall. Cody smiled, and I saw Aaron smile as well. John was uncuffed, changed, and linked next to me on the end. Cody then walked up to me, "Dude, sorry this turned out badly. But in a way I'm kind of glad you did. You set in motion the right chain of events that brought everyone here, and after this we will all be so much stronger. You are permitted the same choice: leave or stay? The fraternity doesn't really have clear guidelines for late pledges who get caught in the crossfire of this kind of event, but I believe everyone here agrees that you at least get the chance to speak your mind. What do you think?"
I didn't take a moment to pause. I knew my answer. Despite the capture, beatings, shocks, locks, rope, cuffs, chains, and jumpsuits (or maybe because of those things), I shock my head and mouthed the words "stay". Cody smiled so big I thought his face would pop. I tried to look around and I saw mixed reactions. Danny smiled, Mason scowled, Aaron had no reaction, and Sam was smirking and gave me a wink. I looked to John and saw him smirking as well. With that said, Cody stepped back to say some final words before putting his own collar on. I thought to myself, he had so much power right now. He could take the top role now and call the alumni back to cancel. But Cody said, "There were three of them that replied last time I checked. Any others that reply, I won't be able to respond to, but if they are free they can still drive to this house to see what is going on. The three will be here within two hours, giving us each time to think our positions over. Some of you may have already decided, but nevertheless we must all go through the entire testing process. Not just for the formality, but the show our commitment to the fraternity. Let's do this." Cody stopped talking and placed his own collar on. He then walked up to each of us and placed blindfolds over our eyes. All I could see was the black sash in front of me, along with a bit of sunlight on the bottom. I heard Cody's handcuffs and chains click, so now all of us, Sam, Aaron, Mason, Danny, me, John, and Cody were in orange jumpsuits, handcuffs, collars, blindfolds, and had our arms secured over our heads, standing one our bare feet (some of us on our tiptoes). Let's do this, indeed.
