A True Story

Postby LordNelson » Sun Jun 08, 2014 1:51 pm

An elderly relative of mine recently moved into a retirement residence and sold her home. As her needs are much less now she left behind many items that have to be disposed of before the new owners move in. I was recruited to sell the “guys stuff”; sporting goods, tools, automotive supplies; at a two day yard sale held at her house. The women were in the house taking care of the bedding, dishes, cups, pots & pans etc. while I had two large tables in the backyard to display my wares.

About mid-afternoon of the second day a car pulled up in front and two couples in about their mid to late sixties got out. One couple went inside to browse while the other proceeded to the back. The husband (I assume they were married) bought several tools. The only purchase the wife made was a bundle of various sized zip ties.

As I had no other customers at the time when they returned to the front of the house I walked with them and I’m glad that I did. The other couple were coming out of the house and when the woman saw the zip ties she grabbed one of the longer ones, held it up and said ‘these make great handcuffs!’

As I get older I have on occasion wondered if TUGging is something I should have grown out of. It seems to be a sport for younger people but even though my participation has faded my passion is still as strong as ever. That comment reaffirmed for me that you are never too old.

My only regret is that I couldn’t get her to come around back to browse; the zip ties were sold but I still had a few pieces of rope and a roll of duct tape left.

I know of several people in my area who are still into tying and being tied up, and all of them are 50 years or older.

This is not uncommon. I remember a forty something finding those Velcro cable organizers at a meeting of volunteers (many of whom were girls my age), immediately putting them on her arms and posing against a shelving unit, all while saying, "I know what these are for..."
Whips and chains may break my bones, but ropes and gags excite me!

I'm 58, my girlfriend is 62. We're still tying each other up. You're only as old as you feel.

I love the fact that some people are doing more than just making comments, they are sharing their lives. Even though the anonymous nature of this site should promote participation I think there are still a lot of people who have hidden their "secret" for so long that it is difficult for them to open up. I was one of them for a long time and becoming a member here and being able to scribble my thoughts has been a blessing.

It's a shame. The only thing that should matter is this: are you hurting someone else (at least, without their consent)? If not, it's nobody's business but the people involved.

A relatively small number of people get a thrill from jumping out of perfectly good airplanes wearing a backpack stuffed with nylon and ropes, even though there is a small but real risk of death or injury even when all safety precautions are followed. None of them seem ashamed of it, and I know of nobody who calls them sick and perverted. Why it should be any different for bondage (which, I'd wager a large sum of money on, is practiced by a far larger number of people than skydiving, and with less risk of death or injury when safety precautions are followed) is beyond me.

Society (at least, American and European society, the ones with which I'm most familiar) has made great strides in accepting that statistically, homosexuals are no less moral and no less sane than heterosexuals. I look forward to the day when it comes to the same understanding about people who are into bondage and other fetishes, and "I like to be tied up" and "I'm gay" are both statements no more shocking than "I like strawberry ice cream".

I have stated before, several times, that unfortunately most of the public's opinion of what we do comes from TV shows such as CSI or Criminal Minds where the victims are usually killed or tortured. To them the idea of tying someone up doesn't conjure up images of consensual fun.

Until Fifty Shades of Grey becomes a primetime sitcom (heaven forbid that should happen) I'm afraid that TUG's will remain obscure and tying someone up will continue to be a prelude to murder.

To its credit, CSI has also shown a positive side with the occasional character Lady Heather.

It may sound too bizarre right now but there will come a day in the far future when you will consider walkers and wheelchairs bondage devices.

LN--
I started out with those thanks to polio at age 3. For real fun and games. add a big iron lung (most of you will have to look that up). Alas, even today, in the throws of dotage according to some of our readers, I am now fighting Post Polio Syndrome (sorry -- another look it up) and when up use pain meds and a crutch (gosh, if I was smaller, d'ya think I could pass for Tiny Tim?). Still into TUGS and always will be --- and yes, I can still get out of a lot of things and get myself into trouble enough to get reintroduced to more of the treasure of the toy box.

Have fun, play often, play safe.
