After a nightmare first day at college in which my secret had been ousted to become general knowledge in my year by the end of the day, I was reluctant to return. Caught with bondage pictures on my phone at lunch, I had endured numerous taunts for much of the day. However as I walked in through the college gates and prepared for my first lesson of English, this was all about to change.
I walked into the room a little late, which I had been told by the headmaster was ‘put up with’ in the first two weeks whilst I got used to getting my way around. As the teacher greeted me I spotted there was only 1 spare seat in the entire room as I stood there a little timid to begin with.
“You must be the new boy, welcome and can you sit next to…Zoe please?” the brunette teacher in her 40s asked, smiling as I went off and sat next to this girl. As I walked past a few people in the class, the odd “weirdo” weirdo and “creep” utterances was made by a few. I reached the table at the back of the class in what seemed a lifetime before I looked up and attempted a smile at Zoe before I noticed her angry expression. She was blonde haired with blue eyes and was generally the most respected student in the room from what I could gather. I knew from eves dropping that her name had cropped up in the same phrase as cheer captain, so I guessed that was what she was. As I sat down, it was refreshing to find she wanted to talk to me as I was still feeling a bit awkward and embarrassed.
“Why are they being mean to you? That’s bang out of order! I’m Zoe by the way.” Zoe whispered in my ear as I sat down. After explaining the situation to her, to my surprise she acted with a lot more maturity and respect than the others.
“Oh right, well they shouldn’t be mocking you. Who started it, I can get them to stop.” She whispered, furious at the treatment I had received.
“I’d really rather not say” I replied, trying not to drop anyone in it.
“fair enough, then I will do something.” She whispered and to my amazement pulled her phone out and texted right in front of me the same message to 6 people in the class.
‘I’m not impressed by whatever this problem with Danny is but it stops now! It aint fair, hes new ffs! Grow up!’
After the message sent I was surprised when she showed me replies as they came, saying that she was right and they were prepared to drop it. It filled me with confidence a little and for the first time in this place, I felt like I had a new friend.
“Thanks. Thanks for sorting that out for me, I couldn’t sleep very well last night.” I smiled, after the situation had finally been dealt with.
“Oh it’s no trouble, I can’t stand bullying or bitchiness. It really gets on my nerves” she smiled.
As the double period resumed, me and Zoe had quite the conversation with her interest in the subject providing me with questions.
“Whats it like then? Y’know being tied up?”
