Typing with Toes

Postby tieup2008 » Thu Aug 05, 2010 6:18 pm

Here's a story about a robbery victim, who was left tied to her bed, used her laptop and typed with her toes to ask for help over IM

Anyone care to try that too?

You might be! Typing too good for that, unless you took 6 hours to type it!
Why don't you give it a try? Come to think about it why doesn't everyone give it a try, typing their replies on here?
Come on people! A challenge for you all!

Well, we need someone to tie our hands to the bed to do this properly...

Glad she found a way out of it. But I tend to wear socks so that would make it harder.

NaughtyNats - Were your hands tied at the same time you were typing?
Kyle - You can try with socks. Yes you might need someone to tie you. Anyone with handcuffs will find it easier

I think a standard phrase 'I'm now typing with My toes! What do you think?' should be compulsory and typed exactly. Do it in one go without correcting it and with all punctuation marks. That'll need shift held down.
There's the challenge!

I was being sarcastic about having my hands tied. But this does give me a good idea to try with someone...

You could just type "HELP CALL 911" like she did. This article explains it a little better.

I just want to know how she managed to hit Ctrl+Alt+Del with her feet. That's impressive.

I couldn't do anything like this to save my soul!!! My toes have almost no flexibility at all!
If you can type with your toes AT ALL, you're way more limber than *I* am! :)

Just trying it out by myself, I managed to type somewhat okay with my toes. It had mistakes but was readable, at least to me. Using my power cord like the woman in the article did it was a lot better. I still don't think I could've hit Ctrl+Alt+Del to unlock the computer in the first place though.

Yes Ctrl + Alt + Del would be difficult!
It's good people are trying it. A few more goes and we'll all be chatting and posting with our feet! Hands being tied is fine if you can get out afterwards! :bound:

Thinking about this...I think its an insurance scam. OK you can type with toes and you probably don't need to be too clear "HELL:P CaSSLLL 911" probably gets the message through

BUT

Ctrl Alt Del all together.....AND why if she is being robbed does the thief leave proably the one item with the highest value to portability rate after a diamond ring? OK car keys have good value too.

I'll wait to see what happens next in this tale.

Perhaps the robbers had a bit of a bondage fetish too?
Laptops aren't that valuable really and can be traced back to the owner. Look at all the personal details you store on them.
They should have switched it off and closed the lid. She'd have had trouble then asking for help!

I'll admit the thought this didn't all add up did cross my mind. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to hear it is a scam. I keep bringing up the whole Ctrl+Alt+Del thing specifically because it was that aspect that made me wonder how true this story is. If it hadn't been for that I probably wouldn't have thought twice about it. For the moment I'll give her the benefit of the doubt though. In any case it's led to an interesting little experiment I'd like to try.

I'm a volunteer to be tied to the bed and not released till I send an e-mail asking for help. Maybe we should do it scientifically and try barefoot, tights, socks and heels.

I'd certainly volunteer to tie you to the bed. But I wouldn't leave anything close by for you to be able to get help.

On a serious note, the experiment I had in mind would be to have my girlfriend tied to the bed with the laptop nearby to see how well she can type this way. Hey, we'd see how well it really works and I'd get a chance to tie her to the bed too...

Well Kyle I'd suggest you go for it ;) Tie her up and see what happens
Don't know if the woman in the original story had her ankles tied. Suppose you could try tied and untied ankles?

I'd imagine if she was able to type with her toes her feet weren't tied at all.

We did try it last night, with both me and her tied to the bed (her bed, mine isn't suitable for tying someone to it). We just did it with our feet untied. She had some decent success typing with her toes. I was a little worse but managed to get a somewhat legible message out. We both did much better when we used the power cord to her laptop like the woman in the article did.
