Deleting Topics and Posts

Postby theonerope » Sat Mar 14, 2015 3:32 am

A few days ago I tried to delete a post that I placed in the wrong section. When I couldn't do it, I asked a moderator to do it for me. I was bothered by the fact that I couldn't delete my own post so I checked out the 'FAQ' section on PHPbb. I'll quote the following text from its 'Deleting Posts' guide:

"Unless you are a board administrator or moderator, you can only edit or delete your own posts. You can edit a post by clicking the edit button for the relevant post, sometimes for only a limited time after the post was made. If someone has already replied to the post, you will find a small piece of text output below the post when you return to the topic which lists the number of times you edited it along with the date and time. This will only appear if someone has made a reply; it will not appear if a moderator or administrator edited the post, though they may leave a note as to why they’ve edited the post at their own discretion. Please note that normal users cannot delete a post once someone has replied."

Is there anyway we can change this setting so that users can delete their posts even after someone has replied?

I appreciate your concern here but doesn't it make a nonsense of a thread when something is removed fro the middle of it?

One way to get around this is simply press the edit button on that particular post, highlight everything you wanted deleted, and then hit any key (or say 'delete'). Voila. The text is gone.
If you want to delete the entire thread, hit edit on your original post and change the title to DELETE, or ask a mod to delete it if you're in a hurry.
