The reverse works better...you first tie ropes to wrists and ankles, lie the captive on the bead, spread her out and tie the ropes to the poles (or whereever).
A good spreadeagle depends on some pull on the holding ropes- and that's easier to archive this way.

so you would wrap a rope around the wrists and ankles, and then connect it to the poles?

Yes. Tie the wristband ankles like a noose or rather loop rope around them and then tie to posts.

In self-ties I kept getting loose so I measured it out by laying on my bed with ropes around a bar under my bed then tied slip knots in the ends and cut off excess. I tied the other end to the bar under my bed. When ready, I laid on my bed and slipped my feet and hands in and I'd be stuck. I always had a knife under the mattress if I really needed to escape in a hurry though. It really gets difficult if you got your hands sealed in socks and duct tape, and are blindfolded and gagged, when you slip your hands into those loops. I used to fantasize putting myself into one of those while wearing what shorts my friend liked after I invited them and they'd find me just to see what they'd do.
Those who walk forward always looking back, don't see that which makes them stumble

This was my first self bondage tiedown for quite a while. First tie a loop of rope to your right hand and put an open combination lock where you can reach it. Tie your feet and your left hand the let the lock hang from the loop while you thread it through the last bedpost. You'll be out of circulation until sunrise or a timer switch turns on a light. As backup I would sometimes have a timer turn OFF the power to a power-fail flashlight aimed at the right bedpost.

This is not for self-bondage, but see:

for a couple of ways to secure a single limb with rope.
