There are sites such as noscript.net which would appear to qualify for a .com domain,
because Noscript is a product (albeit non-commercial). I think I've even seen one or
two sites that seemed fully commercial in the .net domain. It may be that the .com was
already taken, so they grabbed the .net rather than trying to come up with an alternate
name that wasn't already taken in the .com namespace. There are also nonprofits
that would seem to qualify for .org but have .com addresses.
Microsoft also has a development framework called .NET:
