Yet again the nuke comes late with news that are almost done with.
Well, if this thing is made into even half as big a deal as it is made here, you probably know what I'm talking about.
Some European people thought it to be a great idea to try and breach the blockade on Gaza with 6 ships. The Israeli navy took over the ships and brought them to an Israeli seaport. On one of the ships, this didn't go so well, with deaths and injuries being inflicted by both sides. What makes this different from the odd protest being broken by local law enforcement is that, well, the protest was coming with supplies, under a humanitarian aid flag, which lead to some mandatory controversy about the Israeli move.
Well, introduction paragraph done, time for me to drop my (bad) neutrality act and state my opinion. What do I think? I think that the flotilla's main goal was media buzz. I won't humor theories about them smuggling weapons. Even if they find a missile launcher there it would be excused as either self defense or to aid the Gaza police, and I don't think they found amounts weapons yet anyway. If all they're carrying really is just aid and that was their goal, why not unload it in an Israeli port and let it be trucked there? Did they have any over the top off-ship delivery in mind?
But that's just one basic and rather logical point: Every country has the right to regulate ships going through their territorial water, wherever they claim they're going. It's just like breaching airspace, but at sea. Whatever instigated the confrontation between the soldiers and... boat guys, I know one thing for sure from the videos I saw: both sides were attacking and the Israeli soldiers weren't just spraying the place with bullets randomly. When you're in a country's territory you can't be attacking their law enforcers unless you're trying to start a war or something.
So yeah, big surprise, I'm siding with my homeland. But honestly, if you look at this from a purely logical pov, this is all just another arab publicity stunt. I can understand countries being upset for their hurt citizens, but how can you condemn a country for upholding their local authority? If an Al-Qaida operative has a European citizenship, will his country condemn the US when he assists organizing a local terrorist cell?
Choose sides, aim, fire!
