Aunty Mavis – Part 1

Aunty Mavis was the dominant personality in our family, always well dressed, she left a tempting trail of perfume behind her as she walked through a room.
She dressed conservatively and invariably wore matching silk scarf’s to suit her dress of the day. Her makeup was just so, with the alluring red lipstick and lip liner applied with meticulous care.

In the colder months she wore leather or PVC mackintoshes and invariably had matching leather gloves to compliment her stylish outfit. Her black leather mid length coat and matching mid length black leather gloves ensemble always had an attraction for me.

In the 60’s the TV was a wonderful vision of Emma Peel in the “Avengers” and Cat woman in “Batman and Robin”. To top it all off there was usually a shot or two of a damsel in distress in the “Man from Uncle”. The one episode which started my journey into tie up games was “The Brain killers” and this had a super scene at the end when Yvonne Craig was a damsel tied to a chair, with an iconic white tape gag. Oh happy days…

So it was that when Aunty Mavis went out shopping I persuaded my cousin Anne to change our usual “cowboys and Indians” game to a “Man from Uncle” game. We were playing the game, with my good self as Napoleon Solo, set to rescue the damsel in distress. First I had to play the role of the scientist who tied up the damsel.

I used the usual string to tie her ankles to the legs of the chair and tied her wrists behind her and the back of the chair. The tying was somewhat tighter than usual as I got into the role of the scientist. Then with glee I firmly smoothed into place, over her mouth ,the white medical tape we had taken from the medical cupboard.
My cousin then got into the spirit of the game by struggling and trying to escape. This was my favourite part of the game and I left the room to change into my Napoleon Solo role to return and rescue the tied and tape gagged damsel.

As I ran downstairs to retrieve my “Man from Uncle” agent’s gun to affect the rescue I heard my Aunt calling for us as she came back from shopping. I froze in indecision, not having expected her to return so soon. She opened the sitting room door to find me mid step, “Man from Uncle” secret agent gun in hand, trying and failing to look innocent.

She sensed immediately, from my guilty look, that I was up to no good.

“What are you up to young man?” she demanded as she pointed a leather gloved finger at me with certainty. The fact that she was wearing her mid length black leather coat and a silk patterned head scarf made me even meeker in her presence than usual.

“Playing games” I said weakly, with a lump in my throat.

With a certainty born of experience she looked me in the eyes and demanded “What games ?” as she took me by the shoulder.

“Man from Uncle games Aunty”... I said as I tried to avoid her powerful gaze.

“Where is Anne?” she asked as she sensed she had caught me out.

“Upstairs, hiding in her bedroom” I quickly improvised, hoping that she would accept that and let me go, alone, upstairs…

My heart jumped as Aunty Mavis sternly said…”In that case let’s see what you two have been up to shall we young man?”.

She marched me upstairs, with her leather gloved hand firmly gripping my collar. My face must have been beetroot red by now as I meekly accepted my inevitable fate of being marched upstairs to face the consequences.

As Aunty Mavis steered me along the landing and into Anne’s bedroom I saw the look of shock on my cousins face tape gagged face turn, in an instant, to a look of helplessness and innocence. She must have heard our conversation downstairs and at the moment of discovery she decided to turn the situation to her advantage, so yours truly would get all of the blame.

Anne struggled against her bonds in the chair and “Hmmmph” loudly from behind the tape gagged mouth as she looked imploringly at her mother…the message was clear…this was all my fault and she was the innocent…I had never seen Anne play the part of the damsel in distress so well.

With a shocked intake of breath my Aunty let go of me and strode over to Anne…”Oh Anne, what has he done to you my dear?”. At this moment Anne knew she had escaped and I was going to carry the can for this escapade.

Aunty Mavis took of her black leather gloves and peeled the white tape gag from Anne’s mouth and Anne, now playing her damsel role to perfection, squealed and pushed out a few drops of tears as she blurted out with indignation…”He made me play his silly game Mummy !”.

They both turned to look at me accusingly and I was lost for words as I knew I was in trouble with Aunt y Mavis and she was not a Lady to cross.

Aunty Mavis looked at me with a powerful gaze and said “You are in serious trouble young man, just you wait until I untie Anne, you are for the high jump!”…”sit down on the bed and put your hands behind you and wait until I’ve freed Anne”…she demanded.

At that command I meekly walked to the bed and put my hands behind me as I watched Aunty Mavis kneel down in her black leather coat to untie my knots on Anne. Like the actress she now was, Anne milked the situation for all it was worth. Claiming for all she was worth that she did not want to play “his silly Man from Uncle games” and I had made her. Anne’s tears still flowed as she secretly pointed her tongue at me and smirked when her mother was bent down, untying her.

I waited with trepidation to find out my punishment from Aunty Mavis, resigned to my fate…

To be continued….
A good gag is like a cork in a bottle of champagne...keeping the bubbles of fun in ;-)

Ooh, I really like where this is going! With how observant Aunty Mavis was with what he was up to I get the feeling she knows her daughter is faking it. :)
