In the last 24 hours, Australia got it's first taste of Jihadist terrorism, Mon Manis, an Iranian man who's been given asylum here in Australia, chose to repay our generous country by taking several hostages in the Lindt Chocolate Cafe in Sydney. For 17 hours he held them, demanding to speak to our Prime Minister Tony Abbott, and for an ISIS flag to be delivered to him so he could display his support for the terrorist group. Early his morning the hostages tried to escape while he was asleep, but he was woken up and started shooting, the police stormed the building and Manis was killed, but sadly, two innocent people have been killed.
I should be feeling hatred towards this man, but instead I am just sad, sad that he feels he can ruin the image of a peaceful religion by performing such inhuman acts in the name of Islam, and sad that he felt that the best way to display himself to the world was by hiding behind a young woman, using her as a human shield, and taking the lives of two people who had never done him or his people any harm.
To any Muslim people who may read this, and even if you don't, I do not feel a shred of hatred or resentment towards you, and it saddens me that innocent Muslims have suffered and will suffer because of the cruel actions of a few impostors.
And to all who read this, no matter who you are, where you are in the world, by what name you call God, or if you don't believe in God at all, and who you choose to love, just know this, I love you. I love you as a human being and if we all stand together then these evil people will never break our resolve.
