Not all areas observe Daylight Savings Time. (Arizona and Hawaii don't) On the other hand, some locations observe it all year long. China stretches across three time zones on the map, but observes only one. Some places (Newfoundland, Venezuela, Afghanistan) are only a half hour behind/ahead of adjacent time zones. Central Australia is odd. It's an hour and a half ahead of Perth on the west coast, and a half hour behind Melbourne, on the east coast. And Alaska lies across five time zones, but observes only two.
Lima, Peru, on the Pacific side of South America, is in the same time zone as Miami and New York City, on the Atlantic side of North America. (And the Atlantic mouth of the Panama Canal, is further west than the Pacific mouth, just as Reno, Nevada, is further west than Los Angeles.)
