Why is bondage so much 'female' orientated

Postby Oohmynameisblue » Fri Jul 29, 2016 8:14 am

Literally like 90% of images of people if you search "tied up" are of women. Why aren't there more men?

I'm guessing that on the whole, the majority of those who would enjoy/purchase the content prefer to see females bound.

I know I certainly do.

It seems the majority of people on here associate bondage with sex, and there's alot of straight guys here, so naturally we see alot of female tie ups.

There's nothing wrong with it necessarily, but I don't believe bondage should always be linked to sex. I think many of the pg-17 stories and even some of the non intimate stories suffer because they put alot of emphasis on sex and forget about the plot aspect of their stories. It's hard to get into a story with characters you can't come to love....

A little background. Back in the old movie serials women were bound and gagged damsels for the heroes to save. And in comics and even mysteries a damsel was always captured. Then we ran into TV, and the 70s where movies, TV, books and even comics became more violent and people seemed to be killed more often. A lot of us grew up on the old comics like Brenda Starr and TV shows like the Avengers so appreciate a goodlooking lady bound and gagged. As a youth remember thinking differently while watching Batman where Robin was bound and gagged to a horse statue by teh Mad Hatter's henchmen and really got excited. Generally bondage looks better on women, because of poses, and extra effort. Harmony Concepts tried to do a few videos and magazines with males in bondage, but had little success.

As I said, I don't think it has to do with 'it looks better because of poses and extra effort.' It's all about the target audience, which is straight males. Bondage is very sexualized in those comics tailored to young boys.

I know what you mean, when I do a bing image search for 'tape gagged guy' 50% or so of the results tend to be pics of girls :P

Being one of the afore mentioned straight males, I have no problem whatsoever with the abundance of bound women on the Internet. And on the other side of things I avoid bound men on the Internet like the plague.

I am with Nexus lol, but I think one of the reasons is there are a lot more guys like us willing to go look for this sort of thing, where guys being bound is more of a niche crowd. But that would also explain why there are so many guys looking for guys being tied on a forum like this, where it's harder to find girls being tied as the subject matter. The smaller niche crowd of guys enjoying other guys being tied is going to be more populous on a site like this because it's harder for them to find their fetish mainstream, whereas guys like me and Nexus have less trouble finding what we like.

The target demographic of porn/stimulation in any genre is 99% males. However I do no think this is why the internet seems to contain a disproportionately large amount of women in peril. I believe this has more to do with gender roles, and the hypermasculine society we live in.

I don't know if I can agree that bondage looks better on women, or that it really started with women getting tied to the tracks. Some have suggested that it really began with men getting the treatment; http://moviessilently.com/2013/03/12/silent-movie-myth-4-tied-to-the-railroad-tracks/

If our leading societies seriously tone-down the "virile and viking nature" of the male we may see a resurgence of gents in peril. Right now, however, faux-machismo insecurity seems to be "in" in the U.S. This is my hypothesized factor for there being more women in bondage; women are supposed to be powerless, men powerful and the media/entertainment industry complies.

Sorry, MisterBones, for not understanding. I am but a <<straight>> kid asking a genuine question. I'm quite young and maybe not as experienced as you and I'd be grateful if you'd understand that. Thanks.

I don't think anyone is necessarily trying to be insulting, though I can see that some are missing the point. The main problem I see with women being disproportionately bound and gagged is that entire generations of women grow up believing they should be submissive sideshows, not the heroes; in their mind only men can be that.

Additionally boys grow up believing they should be STRONG all of the time. Instead of embracing the ebb and flow of being in control and being compliant from time to time, they develop authority complexes and shiver at the thought of appearing submissive.

These extremes don't help anyone. In my mind we are humans before we are men and women.

Well for me, a bound female body is extremly more attractive than a bound male one. And speaking as a bondage top...females do have so much more nice curves et al :) to wrap rope around.
