Next they will say that Paris is only twenty miles from London and Birmingham, the latter being renamed to Birming as they had to remove the ham part...

Perhaps they were confusing the capital city of France with Paris, Texas in a similar way to the way they might have confused England's second city with Birmingham, Alabama? That (Other than the possibility of my having spotting early season cuckoos) is all I can suggest, really.

Praised be The Godess for i do not own or watch a telly. Otherwise i could take for truth that all Americans are a bunch of iliterate self centered idiots.
And bewae Dear Skybird one day we will reclaim and annex your small and rainy island. I've seen in the Daily Mail (For you Fox Watchers, it's the First UK Newspaper in wich even The Times reporterstake their intel) that you Brits are considering passing a law preventing all pork related things in children literature !

You are, indeed misinformed, Chloe. A certain publisher has suggested to its authors that including pig-based subject matter might jeopardise their potential for foreign sales.

FYI The Daily Mail (or "Daily Hate" as it is known to some of us) is a hysterical, right-wing, immigrant-hating, claimant-demonising, poisonous rag.

In the interest of balance: it does have a great crossword.

I'm not really trying to be snide, but welcome to what we put up with on this side of the pond. And just think; Faux Nooz (an affiliate of which actually successfully sued in court for the right to lie on their telecasts, if you please) is the top-rated cable "news" outlet in our country...

I wonder if Fox's "expert" has ever left the USA... They should really show the Petit Journal on NBC or CNN to ridicule Fox News (not that any sane person really takes them seriously... Well, hopefully!).

Funny thing: last time I was in Paris, I stayed the entire week in Belleville, one of the "no-go zones". It was a fun, lively multicultural area, and perfectly safe, even late at night!

Fox News is ridiculous.

This clip appears to be the French equivalent of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. That's a very popular "Fake News" comedy show. In the ratings that show beats every show on Fox News with the exception of The O'Reilly Factor with Bill O'Reilly.

Stateside the commercials (adverts) on Fox appeal to the senior citizens. They advertise arthritis medicines, Medicare supplemental coverage, mobile electric scooters and retirement communities such as the GOP friendly The Villages in Florida. The average age of a Fox viewer is 69. The joke is that every time an ambulance goes by they lost another viewer.

For a great story on Fox and its chairman Roger Ailes check this lengthy article from Rolling Stone magazine from June 9, 2011/ T.T.

Thanks for the "mise au point" Dear ! I'm perfectly aware of the real value of the Daily Mail being a great fan of British tabloids. I'm sorry that you skipped the fact that this part of my post was to be read "tongue in cheek" (Cause reading tongue in eye would be quite unpractical and unpleasant)

Cheerz Dear !
cheers

Very loosely related:

At least Fox retracted it (in a weasel-worded way, granted)...Bobby Jindal, who declared the GOP must "quit being the party of stupid", not only repeated the claim after retraction, but doubled down on it when called out on the retraction *and* by people who actually lived in the area.

I can always count on the people who claim to despise Fox News to be interested enough in what they're saying to tell me.

(Not necessarily meant to call out everyone who's posted on here, as I don't know if everyone here is like that, but I'm definitely getting the vibe from a few people, and it does often seem to be that way. I just don't understand it.)

Maybe it's because so many people are disturbed that so many other people not only watch it but believe every word they say.
I find it disturbing myself, because so many people cast their votes based on the 'information'/right-wing propaganda that is broadcast on that station.
And before you ask; no i don't watch MSNBC or CNN either.

I live in an area which is pretty heavily conservative. Most people I know are fairly conservative. I know some people who do watch Fox News. You know how often I hear them get together and talk about it? Not very. For what it's worth, I hear CNN mentioned as much or more than Fox. Although most people I know discuss local news more than national news.

The obsession with Fox News is pretty one-sided, and it isn't from the people who you'd think would like it.

I myself live in an area that is pretty heavily liberal, though the state itself is generally pretty moderate (or was until we elected and then somehow re-elected a tea-party darling for Governor). Most of the people I know are also liberal to moderate. Practically none of them watch the news though; most are twenty or thirty somethings, and they usually don't follow politics at all.
I guess we're both just products of our own particular environments! :big:

There is a stereotypical view of the average American whose knowledge of history and geography comes from Hollywood. It's one that is wrong, but so many comments just end up making people wonder.

After all, there was the Presidential nominee who said that "England is a small island" therefore forgetting that the Welsh and Scottish populations exist. I'm sure that they were very happy about that.

You mean the side that Fox News exists to kowtow and provide confirmation bias to doesn't like to point out when it egregiously lies or distorts informations? Shocking.
Or are you actually surprised that FN viewers tend to lock themselves into the echo chamber and are in fact unaware that they're being fed garbage in the first place?

I had something written but decided I didn't like it and went to delete the post, but then I discovered you can't actually do that anymore. So I just put a period because it was late and I was too lazy tired to write any explanation.

Oh, well I can fix that. Any time that happens again just ask and I'll be happy to delete it for you.
