This might sound very weird and gross, but for me, my intro, and eventual fascination for bondage started when I watched Disney's Aladdin and Sleeping Beauty. At first the two scenes of capture and bondage were more frightening than anything, but as time went on I found myself fascinated. The idea of the damsel in distress had already been an idea that I was familiar with, and after watching Aladdin I always wished that it had been Jasmine who'd gotten tied up instead. But Sleeping Beauty was the first time when I'd seen a female dominate a male, albeit with lots of help from her minions. I found myself, when I got older, watching the scene for the little details of the animated sequence. The choreography of it was astounding to me, watching how the fight played out, even as the cutaways forced us to guess what happened in that space of time. And then of course Maleficent's little gloats as she smiles over her captive. After a while it became more exciting, and the underlying bondage element is astonishing to me considering when it was made.
It's actually led me to rethink Maleficent in a way I'd never imagined before. She could have captured Phillip with magic, she could have teleported him to her castle. But no, she orders her minions to physical subdue and bind him while she has a front row seat to the excitement. And she clearly enjoys the sight. And since she's a highly stylized looking villain in a 1950 movie, could this be a conservative demonizing of fetishes?
