Why Did You Vote for Obama? Here's the Answers

1. I voted for Obama because I believe oil companies’ profits of 4% on a gallon of gas are obscene, but the government taxing the same gallon of gas at 15% isn’t.

2. I voted for Obama because I believe the government will do a better job of spending the money I earn than I would.

3. I voted for Obama because Freedom of Speech is fine as long as nobody is offended by it.

4. I voted for Obama because I’m way too irresponsible to own a gun, and I know that my local police are all I need to protect me from murderers, rapists, thugs, and thieves.

5. I voted for Obama because I believe that people who can’t tell us if it will rain on Friday can tell us that the polar ice caps will disappear in ten years because of Global Warming if I don’t start driving a Prius or a Chevy Volt.

6. I voted for Obama because I’m not concerned about millions of babies being aborted so long as we keep all death row inmates alive.

7. I voted for Obama because I think illegal aliens have a right to free health care, education, and Social Security benefits.

8. I voted for Obama because I believe that business should not be allowed to make profits for themselves. They need to break even and give the rest away to the government for redistribution as Obama sees fit.

9. I voted for Obama because I believe liberal judges need to rewrite the Constitution regularly to suit some fringe folks who would never get their agendas past the voters.

10. I voted for Obama because I think that it’s better to pay billions to people who hate us for their oil, but not drill for our own because it might upset some useless endangered beetle, gopher, or fish.

11. I voted for Obama because while we live in the greatest, most wonderful country in the world, I was promised “HOPE AND CHANGE.”

12. I voted for Obama because my head is so firmly buried up my ass that it’s unlikely that I’ll never have another point of view.

In other words, what you are saying is, that anyone who voted for Obama must be a total idiot who isn't competent enough to make any decisions whatsoever.
Rather harsh words I think; especially for those of us who actually voted for him.
I also think it's rather insulting for those of us who don't think quite the same way about him as you do.
In point of fact, there is nothing you said here which is particularly true of me, but I voted for Obama nonetheless. To say I must at the same time believe this utter bilge you wrote is to insult my intelligence and that of milliions of other people.
This kind of rhetoric gets us nowhere, but rather than reply in kind (which I could easily do about Bush), I'll give you one perfectly good reason to have voted for Obama that trumps everything you have said.
I voted for Obama so that we wouldn't elect some Republican military war hawk who was so old that he might have croaked from old age combined with the stress of the job while in office - and left us with a total jackass like Sarah Palin as the president of the United States!!!
That, all by itself, is a plenty good enough of a reason for me to have voted for Obama!!!!
Say what you will about Obama, but the mere risk of Palin as President would have been far, far worse!!!
Dare to be different... and make a difference.

Agreed Jason.

I myself didn't vote for Obama (too young back then) but I would have because sadly he's the lesser of two evils.

Same for this election year. The Republican candidates they've dug up are FAR too extreme and evangelical for my taste because they keep trying to take separation of church and state, smash it into a million pieces and merge the two. It's bad enough Big Business and the State have almost completely merged but I don't want extreme right-wing so-called "Christians" shoving their morals down my mouth and making laws that take away my rights while giving them more power.

It's hard being gay right now.

Reasons to re-elect Obama

Re: Why Did You Vote for Obama? Here's the Answers

Postby drawscore » Tue May 01, 2012 10:38 pm

Let's see, Fast and Furious, an Obama Justice Department scam that went south, and got a border agent killed.
More Justice Department incompetence in not prosecuting members of the New Black Panther Party.
Still more Justice Department incompetence, coupled with the Department of Homeland Security, in not sealing our borders from the illegal alien - oops, undocumented Democrat - invasion.
Filing suits against Arizona, South Carolina, and Texas because they want people to show a photo ID to vote.
Gas prices doubled in just over three years of Obama.
Using the military for political purposes as a re-election tool.
Promises an open and transparent administration, but has his college and law school records sealed. (Other candidates have released theirs. What is he hiding, and why?)
Began his political career in the home of domestic terrorist Bill Ayres.
Mentored by Frank Marshall Davis, an avowed communist.
Exceeded in three years, the debt accumulated by his 43 predecessors between 1789 and 2009.
The US lost its AAA credit rating on his watch.
Killed about 100,000 jobs by scuttling the Keystone Pipeline, which further enriched his pal, Warren Buffett, who will move the Canadian oil to the Texas refineries by the B&N Railroad, which Buffett owns.

I could go on, but that should be enough. However, if you want someone with that kind of record leading our country, vote for Obama.

But there is some bad news for the Obama campaign: If he carries the same states he carried in 2008, he'd still win, but by 32 fewer electoral votes. Due to redistricting based on the 2010 census, states that went for Obama lost 32 seats in congress, to states that went for McCain. If Romney can turn Florida (29 electoral votes) or several smaller states (NC, NV, CO, NM) he stands a good chance of unseating Obama.

As for Romney, I'm not thrilled with him, but then I won't vote FOR Romney, but I will vote AGAINST Obama.

Considering many of Drawscore's rather odd points, such maturity is probably too much to ask of extreme conservatives.
After all, they expect Obama to solve every problem without error like he was God or something, but if McCain had been elected and failed to come through or made mistakes, they would have been a lot more forgiving - like they have been with Bush despite all his errors!! Also, in their eyes, whatever goes wrong anywhere is Obama's fault (regardkless of whether he had anything to do with it or not), but if something goes right (like getting the drop on sama bin Laden at last) it's only because of the hardworking Navy SEALs or whoever and they give no credit to him at all even though it was ultimately his decision whether or not to go ahead! Nothing Obama could possibly or reasonably do without becoming another Bush would be acceptable in the eyes of conservatives anyway.
Such rhetoric (especially including so many biased points like the issue of the border agent or where Obama began campaigning) only shows that extremists (liberal as well as conservative, mind you - before Drawscore gets started on erroneous rant about MY political stance again) can't really be expected to be terribly rational about politics or religion (hence the old adage about discussing either with people). They demand far more than any human being is capable of giving while at the same time cutting him no slack whatsoever while overlooking all the faults of their own candidates. Obama has been the biggest victim of the political double standard of any President in U.S. history (with the possible exception of Abraham Lincoln).

1. I voted for Obama because I believe oil companies’ profits of 4% on a gallon of gas are obscene, but the government taxing the same gallon of gas at 15% isn’t.
Never mind the fact that it's not government but greedy speculators who are causing all the trouble, right?
http://business.time.com/2012/04/25/pre ... ut-it-out/

2. I voted for Obama because I believe the government will do a better job of spending the money I earn than I would.
Like Bush did any better. This has been a complaint of government ever since payroll income taxes started about a century ago.

3. I voted for Obama because Freedom of Speech is fine as long as nobody is offended by it.
Again, like Bush did any better with such things as wiretaps without court order and the Patriot Act in general making one susceptible to being branded a terrorist just for saying the wrong things.

4. I voted for Obama because I’m way too irresponsible to own a gun, and I know that my local police are all I need to protect me from murderers, rapists, thugs, and thieves.
You prefer people like Zimmerman running around with guns instead?
*I* don't own a gun and never have - and I have never had any problem encountering ANY of these people!

5. I voted for Obama because I believe that people who can’t tell us if it will rain on Friday can tell us that the polar ice caps will disappear in ten years because of Global Warming if I don’t start driving a Prius or a Chevy Volt.
Besides the act that this is obviously exaggerated in more ways than one, I'd love to drive a Prius or a Chevy. Right now I do not drive at all, but ride my bike or walk. I can afford a car; I simply choose not to drive one. Not because of global warming, but because other people make the roads effing dangerous!

6. I voted for Obama because I’m not concerned about millions of babies being aborted so long as we keep all death row inmates alive.
If people like you did not also oppose contraception abortion would not be a problem. And how would you feel if YOU were on death row for a crime you did not commit, as has been proved to be the case with hundreds of inmates? Doesn't this bother you at all?

7. I voted for Obama because I think illegal aliens have a right to free health care, education, and Social Security benefits.
I won't dispute this one; exept to say that immigration laws are f***ed up anyway. Hell, I resent it when legal immigrants get a better deal than many native-born citizens are getting. And many of these legal immigrants, especially Somalians, are damned lousy neighbors, whereas most Hispanics I've met are far more sociable.
But considering that we ripped off a major chink of land from Mexico by means that would be considered highly unethical today, and most illegal immigrants are from Mexico, I simply feel it's just the Mexicans getting a bit of their own back.

8. I voted for Obama because I believe that business should not be allowed to make profits for themselves. They need to break even and give the rest away to the government for redistribution as Obama sees fit.
Fair profits are fine. Multi million dollar bonuses for CEOs paid for by plundering the work force's pension funds and keeping wages as the subsistence level are another matter altogether.

9. I voted for Obama because I believe liberal judges need to rewrite the Constitution regularly to suit some fringe folks who would never get their agendas past the voters.
Of course you would prefer reactionary conservative judges to be rewriting the Constitution for the same purpose - such as what has been the case these past 10 years!

10. I voted for Obama because I think that it’s better to pay billions to people who hate us for their oil, but not drill for our own because it might upset some useless endangered beetle, gopher, or fish.
I take it that the potential pollution of millions of acres of farmland and forest in case of a problem would be of no consequence to you, right?

11. I voted for Obama because while we live in the greatest, most wonderful country in the world, I was promised “HOPE AND CHANGE.”
Maybe if you actually gave the man a chance without sniping at every GD thing he does from moment to moment, he could accomplish something. But it's hard to achieve any worthwhile change when you're being pecked to death by a million loud-mouthed ducks!!!

12. I voted for Obama because my head is so firmly buried up my ass that it’s unlikely that I’ll never have another point of view.
Except for the first four words of this sentence,this is obviously the case with you anyway!
Dare to be different... and make a difference.
To boldly go where no one in their right mind has gone before...

That statement is so loaded with BS as to prove that an intelligent discussion with you is as impossible as finding a scrupulously honest politician.
I'll leave it up to others to fruitlessly attempt to reason with you. It's obvious that you're not worth the effort.
If you want to see that as some kind of moral victory on your part like you did before; be my guest. I doubt anyone else with a reasonably open mind reading this will think so, and I no longer care.

Uhhh, Chris, if you're referring to Obama that's not quite right. At least about his party. Obama is a Democrat and considered a liberal (though he's nowhere near being the Socialist style liberal conservatives like Drawscore claim he is); aka a left-winger. It's Bush and his crowd, and Romney (who's running against Obama now), all Republicans, who are the right-wingers.
One thing the conservatives (right wingers) like to do is claim that Obama is a Socialist, even though he is nothing of the kind; largely because of his attempt to introduce health-care reform.
That's because the richer conservatives want to live like feudal lords, the poorer ones need someone else to feel superior to, and so the majority of the working class are treated little better relatively speaking than mere serfs to boost the poorer conservatives' self esteem (if nothing else, since only the richer ones really benefit from the status quo).

I know Reps are right-wing and that Democrats are considered left wing.....in America, the rest of the world would say they are on the far right though. They at least seem that way compared to actuall right-wing party's back here, which i guess would make our lefties actuall commies to drawscore.

Doubtless.
Quite a change considering the extreme rightward political shift many European countries (led by Germany and Italy but including a dozen others) were making in the 1930s. Back then, left-wingers were even less popular than they are now, thanks in part to the excesses of the Soviet Union.

Again, like Bush did any better with such things as wiretaps without court order and the Patriot Act in general making one susceptible to being branded a terrorist just for saying the wrong things.<<<

You should know better. You can't justify liberal bad behavior by pointing at the bad behavior of conservatives. It's a weak and ineffective argument.

Then why do YOU keep doing it concerning the bad behavior of conservatives? Or do you really fail to see the hypocrisy of your own statement?

Sadly, not everywhere. In Australia, the “conservatives” (who call themselves the Liberal Party for some bizarre reason) are just as right-wing as the US Republicans, if not more so. Our Labor Party is more left-wing than the Democrats but also less successful at winning elections. On the whole, I don’t think American politics are any more right-wing than what we have here.
And when you actually look around, there are very few countries, in Europe or elsewhere, with a leader as progressive as Obama. His problem, which is shared by reformist politicians everywhere, is trying to govern in a culture of complaint. He’s too liberal for the conservatives and too conservative for the liberals.

Uhhhhhh... *I* read 'em, but not with any particular care and I'd probably flunk a pop-quiz on the subject in terms of reader comprehension. Especially as I am unsure what some of them mean (what is Ledbetter vs. Goodyear for example?), how relevent some of the items are, or even being unable to personally assess how accurate the entire list is.

Okay, here’s the straight dope. Aussies in general are not right-wing, but very naive when it comes to politics (or indeed anything much other than sport).
Right-wing politicians here are much better at harvesting votes because their entire raison d’être is getting elected, so they can promise everything to everyone, and they can criticize and pander according to whatever is expedient (including opposing a particular policy while in opposition and adopting it when in government and claiming the credit). Whereas left-wing politicians and parties have a reform agenda, which means losing friends and making enemies.

I read a few, enough to know Weigl pretty much just started blindly picking things out of the air to say is a good thing from Obama at certain points. But I sure didn't read anywhere near 218 of them.

I'm pretty sure we've had this discussion before, but I could go find a list of accomplishments of just about every president, certainly the last few, including your good buddy George W. Bush.

Just to prove my point:

You can find good things to say about anybody. Two of the most evil men of the last century, were Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini, but Hitler built the Autobahn, and Mussolini made the trains run on time. Never mind that between the two of them, they were responsible for upwards of 15 million deaths during World War II. :-)

Kyle, did you even look at this list of yours? Here are some of the bullet points, with my fair and balanced comments after each.

3. Prescription drug benefits in Medicare--conservatives don't view this as an accomplismnet;

6 Allowed disabled people to use up to a year’s worth of vouchers to finance down payments on homes--this one sounds like it contributed to the economic mess we had in 2008-09;

8 Increased budget deficit to Eisenhower levels (% of GDP)--actually, defense spending went up 100% since 2001; I'm not sure how that helped the deficit;

10.Increased the limit of Education IRA from $500 to $2,000--again, conservatives would now hate this;

11 Didn’t fix economy hurt by housing crisis--how is this an "accomplishment"?

12. Allowed mortgage crisis--this is an accomplishment???

15.Pushed through 2 separate income tax custs (sic)--which created a deficit when we had a surplus in 2000;

17. Fixed economy inherited in 2000 and hurt in 2001 attacks--Bush did???? What was that near depressison we had four years ago?

International

18. Killed the old US/USSR ABM Treaty--again, this sounds like one of Bush's failings;

21. 10 ABM silos in Alaska--more wasted taxpayers money;

22. Prematurely declares “Mission Accomplished” regarding Iraq--boy, this list is amazing if this is an accomplishment!

25. Condemned the Russian attack on Georgia--but what did he actually do?

26. Allows Secretary of State to go to UN with false evidence regarding Iraq-- another amazing "accomplishment"!

29. Designated Iraq, Iran and North Korea as “Axis of Evil”--that went over well didn't it?

32. Setup the Afghanistan government--and then basically deserted it and invaded Iraq--wow!

34. Secured a commitment from N. Korea to end its nuclear weapon program--that worked out well too;

36. Iraq invasion--boy, what an amazing accomplishment; this caused an over one trillion dollar hole in the budget because it was never included as an expense;

40. Watched as Israel attacked Gaza--another dubious accomplishment;

41. Set up new government in Iraq--another disaster for Bush;

47. Gave Pakistan billions of dollars--again, that worked out well, right?

Policy

48. Watched passively as Katrina hit New Orleans--this list would be hilarious if it wasn't so sad;

49. Denied knowing Ken Lay from Enron--is Drawscore proud of this one?

52. Kept reading children’s books on 9/11--WHAT????

53.Was elected in 2000--by the Supreme Court in one of it's extraordinary dubious 5-4 decisions;

58. Mandated a Cut in Mercury Emissions--this one would get conservatives today really upset--enough to gut the EPA;

64. Tried to privatize Social Security--wow--another dubious effort!

65. Reduced drug use among teens by 25%--he did?

66. Killed Kyoto Global Warming Treaty--how to win friends and influence countries; feeling tyhe heat now?;

67. issued an executive order that limits access to Presidential papers--talk about transparency;

71. Was re-elected in 2004--this gets better and better!

73. Appointed Supreme Court Associate Justice Samuel Alito--another right-winger;

74. Appointed Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts--ditto;

75. Stopped funding of new stem cells for research purposes--oh boy, he agonizd over this one; probably failed to get Osama Bin Laden in 2001 because of this;

78. Challenged UN to not be the League of Nations--WHAT????

79. Stopped US involvement in International Criminal Court--yeah, and did what instead? Unilateral invasions of other countries?

81. Established the The White House Office and the Centers for the Faith-Based and Community Initiative--giving taxpayer money to Church organizations; so much for the so-called seperation of church and state;

91. No child left behind--test, test test--another failure;

Terrorism

96. Detained foreign citizens in prison without due process--did he tear up the Constsitution while doing this?

100. Allowed torture of suspect terrorists--at least this list if honest about Bush's failures!

101. Told American’s to shop after 9/11--yes, such sacrifice he asked of us.

This list is really funny; I recommend that Kyle actually read it!
