how many people?

Postby haloguy » Thu Jun 03, 2010 1:49 pm

what do you think is the percentage of people who like TUGs, for example, my school is pretty small, about 400 kids grade 6-12. I wonder how many out of those 400 are secretly into TUGs? How many people do I know who are secretly into TUGs? how many of my friends are secretly into TUGs? If I knew, wow, I could have a TUG party at my house! Many new friendships would be formed and there would be many meetings of new people. Does anyone know the percentages of how many people are into bondage/TUGs?

I would bet anything that there are a few other people in my school who are into TUGs that I do not already know about.

penny for your thoughts?

I'd throw in 1% of the population. Which in your schools case would be about 1-8 people, in my school 8-20 something like that. I did hear a story in my Science class about an upperclassman who liked to be tied up or something... But never heard anything more. Unfortunately a majority of TUG peeps have there secrets... Semi well-guarded.

I think its much more common than we realise. According to statistics, its the second most common fantasy (behind threesomes, obviously), particularly among men, although I think just as many women enjoy the idea, we're just less honest about it haha!

The only problem is that even though a lot of people enjoy it, not man ywill admit to it and even fewer will act on it - so its hard to say :)

I don't have anything "official" backing this up, but I once read about 50% of married couples try some form of bondage and half of those do it on some kind of regular basis.

Now of course married couples tend to do a little bit more...adult form of bondage than what we typically discuss here, but a lot of them were perhaps interested in it before getting married. If you give kids a roll of duct tape chances are someone is going to at least have their mouths taped shut, if someone doesn't get wrapped up in it.

From my own experiences I'd have to say there has to be a sizable minority, but this probably varies from one area to another. When I was 13 and visited my cousins, it seemed like every boy in the area was tying one another up! It was only later that I realized that there were many boys in the area I never met or got involved with in this way, but there were still over a dozen of them in a relatively small rural community who were all into TUGs with me. Of course, that could have been a remarkable fluke and probably was; though if so it was a really lucky one for me. A lot may depend on the popularity of the person who starts TUGs in an area. My cousin Walt tied up his brother Randy, they both tied up THEIR cousin (Not MINE however) David, who tied up his two brothers, and from there it just somehow snowballed to many (though far from all) of their other friends in the area... and then to me when I luckily wound up in their clutches! David at least must've got really into it because he invented a LOT of bondage devices on his own; so maybe HE started it actually rather than my cousins - I'm not sure now! But anyway they were all popular kids so maybe they had better luck than average finding other TUgmates thru regular experimentation - enough so that they actually started their own secret club which lasted until I was 18 (it started two years before I ever knew about it).

Just look how many people smile or blush when you drop "furry handcuffs" into a conversation. How many online stores (and bricks and mortar stores" do their business all or part selling bondage kit. ask them what their sales are like. How many clubs (official clubs or just meetings) so are there 10s of 1000s, 100s of 1000s or even more than 1000000 regular in UK alone. Then add germany, france netherlands, scandinavia US Australia .......

Don't know a percentage but we are not alone

The most trustworthy numbers I heard (it was a study at an university a while ago) says that around 1/3rd of the population has (at least sometimes) sadomasochistict tendencies.

There are 10 kind of people in the world.
Those who understand binary numeral system, and those who don't.

I think if you're just talking 'tendencies' the actual figure is closer to 100%!!! :spank;
That percentage you quote might fit well though if only discussing people who ACT on those tendencies though! Or better yet - those who will ADMIT it!!!

I think suestruggles is right on this one. I bought my handcuffs from a local military supply store. I was expecting to have to explain what my reasons were for buying them, but the guy just smiled. Jokingly I asked "How many of these do you sell?", "Oh, thousands and thousands. They're really popular." So yeah, I think its more common than a lot of us think.

But more importantly I think there's varying degrees of interest in our particular fantasies. Some people might be slightly intrigued by the idea but only in a sexual context, people like us who enjoy bondage largely for its own sake, or something else entirely. It's certainly not a black and white answer like "This percentage of people are into bondage, and this percentage aren't."
There's a permanent tension in music isn't there? On one hand you have three chords, you know, four four and three chords. Then there's the people like me, who say "Well, why don't we add a fourth chord and put it in five four?" - Bill Bruford
