Sailor's Daughter: Sixteen Years (Complete.)

Part 1: In this part, Katie and Jeff pay tribute to someone very important.

Friday, Nov. 27th , 7:00am...

“Katie, it's time to wake up,” Dad told me. I turned over to see him standing over me. I then gave him a nod. It was about seven in the morning, and while I hate waking up early, today was a major exception. Tomorrow was my birthday, but on the day before, Day and I always give special treatment to one particular person.

I got up, and went to my bathroom to have a shower. Once I was done, I took the time to look myself over in the mirror. I smiled warmly at my reflection. I was about as developed as I was going to get. Everything looked as it should, and that was okay by me.

I dried, and combed my hair out, before I wrapped myself in my towel, and headed back to my room. Even though it was a free dress day at school today, I dressed up in a black polo shirt with long sleeves, and a pair of matching pants. I put my hair into a ponytail, and headed downstairs to get a quick breakfast.

Dad was in the kitchen finishing up his coffee. He was also dressed in all black attire as well. I poured myself some instant oatmeal, and ate it quickly. I cast a brief look over at Dad, but we didn't have anything to say to each other at this time.

Once my breakfast was done, I rinsed out my bowl, and headed back upstairs to get my school supplies, as well as my winter coat. With my backpack slung over my shoulder, I went back down stairs again.

“You ready?” Dad asked me.

“Yeah,” I said softly.

“Alright then, let's go,” He sighed. Very rarely do I see him with such a look of sadness in his eyes. I couldn't blame him after all. My birthday always comes with a painful reminder for him.

* * * *

The purpose for us waking up so early today was so that we could take a little detour on the way to school. We made a few turns here and there, and finally pulled into the local cemetery. Dad and I both had bouquets of roses in hand, as we exited the truck. We both then walked down the pathway.

It was close to eight O'clock now, and the sun was beginning to rise. We continued to walk a little ways past various stones and monuments dedicated to those who have passed on. That was until we reached the one we were looking for.

Here lies Melissa Narrows.
Feb 6th 1972-Nov 28th 1999
In her passing, new life was given.

Dad just sighed, and looked at the stone dedicated to the Mother I never had the chance to get to know. I took a knee, and placed my bouquet of roses at the base of the stone. I could see one tear forming in Dad's eye as he then followed suit.

“You're daughter has turned sixteen today Sweetheart,” He then said to the stone. I really had nothing to say, so I just remained quiet. “Anyways, rest well, and know that we're always thinking of you,” He stated, although I could tell he was choking back tears. We both then gave the monument a full military salute, and then left.

“Even after sixteen years, that just doesn't stop being painful,” Dad told me, once we were back on the road again headed for school. I just sighed, and looked at him.

“At least you knew her,” I said back.

“And that's always been the most painful part of this,” Dad said, with a loud sigh of his own. “Anyways, we've looked back at the past. Now it's time to look ahead,” He stated. “Where are you and your friends doing homework today?”

“We were leaning towards Linda's house today,” I answered, and Dad nodded.

“By the way Katie, there are two people who will be visiting tomorrow that I really want you to meet,” Dad said, now smiling again. I perked up a bit.

“Really? Who?” I asked him. Dad gave me a sneer.

“You'll find out,” He said. I just rolled my eyes. So we'd be having Mystery Guests over tomorrow it seemed.

At School.

I walked through the school building, and put my backpack into my locker. Sam and Lucy soon joined me. They were both dressed in khaki colored pants. Lucy had on a Legend of Zelda T-shirt while Sam had on her Final Fantasy T-shirt.

“Did it go well?” Lucy asked me. Both of them had looks of sorrow on their faces. My friends knew what always happens on this day. They knew where I had just been. They knew what the all black attire on this day meant.

“Yes, it went well,” I said, with a smile.

“Hey, cheer up. It's your birthday tomorrow,” Sam said, to which I nodded.

“Is it really your birthday tomorrow?” Kelsey then asked, as she walked over to us.

“Yep,” I sighed. Kelsey frowned a bit.

“You don't sound very happy about it,” She said, with a look of concern on her face. Sam then explained why, as I took my jacket off.

“Katie's Mother died giving birth to her,” She whispered.

“Oh my,” Kelsey said, now with wide eyes. “Katie, I'm so sorry.”

“It's alright,” I said. “I never really had the chance to know her, and that's what upset my Dad the most.”

“I can well imagine,” Kelsey stated. I sighed again.

“Well, I've paid my respects to her today, and now it's time for me to celebrate the life I've had so far,” I said. It was at that time that Linda came up to us. She was dressed in maroon polo shirt with white tipping on the collar, and a set of gray skirted leggings.

“Everything go alright?” She asked me. I nodded yes. “That's good,” She said.

“Hey Linda,” Kelsey then greeted.

“Hello Kelsey,” Linda greeted back. “Oh by the way Kelsey, would you like to join us at our group homework session at my house today?” She then asked.

“I'd love to, but I have a doctor's appointment after school,” She answered, while pointing at her prosthesis.

“Ah, gotcha,” Linda said. With that, we were off to our classes.

* * * *

So yeah, homework was pretty much the same old routine. Each one of us helping each other out until everything was done. Linda's Mother was nice enough to invite us all for dinner as well, but we still had some free time before that. We decided to hold a different type of gaming session.

“I was going to load up Roller Coaster Tycoon 3, and you three will advise me on what to build,” Linda suggested. At which point, she started snickering.

“Why do I get the feeling there’s a catch to this?” I asked her. Linda then gave us the answer.

“You three will be bound and gagged as well,” Linda told us. All three of us burst out laughing.

“Oh, this aut to be good,” Lucy said.

“You all up for it?” Linda asked.

“Heck yeah, I'm up for it,” I stated.

“Alright then,” Linda said, and we all headed up to her room.

Linda loaded up the game, and then went to her closet. She pulled out a few slip-on gags, and tossed one to each of us. I got a white one while Sam and Lucy each received blue ones. Linda then pulled out a few lengths of rope. I wadded up the sock, and put it into my mouth. I then pulled the band behind my head, and shifted my hair out from under it.

Linda tied Sam's hands behind her back in her usual manner. She then moved on to Lucy who decided to wear her gag in a cleave fashion. I just stood patiently with my hands behind me, as I waited for my turn. Once Linda had tied Lucy's hands, she then did the same with me.

“Now then,” She said, as she set a timer on her phone. “Once twenty minutes is up, we'll rotate who plays, and who's tied up,” She explained, and we all nodded. With that, she started up a park. I turned to my friends.

“Shw whhsh frsht?” I asked them, and we started giggling.

“Alright, what's first?” Linda then asked.

“I jjph hsskkd thht,” I then told her, and she laughed.

“Mrryy-gh-rrnnd bh thh nntrnncc,” Lucy then suggested.

“Merry-go-round by the entrance?” Linda asked, and Lucy nodded yes. Linda nodded back, and placed the ride accordingly. She then opened it to the guests. “Now we need a roller coaster. Which one do we want?” She then asked us. We all gave muffled responses through our gags at the same time which made us all laugh again.

“Wwddnn iph h cllsscc,” I stated.

“A Wooden Roller Coaster?” Linda asked. I looked over at Sam and Lucy to see how they reacted. They just shrugged, and nodded. It seemed they didn't want to try to argue too much through their gags. Linda then placed a wooden roller coaster in the park.

Once the twenty minutes was up, it was Sam's turn to build stuff, and Linda was then bound, gagged, and providing counsel. We went through two full rotations before it was dinner time, and we had to stop. Although...

“I should have expected to see something like this,” Mrs. Trotter said, as she entered the room, and we all laughed. “What are you all doing?”

“It's quite simple Mum: I'm building a theme park based on their advice,” Linda explained to her. Mrs. Trotter looked at the three of us bound and gagged.

“I think I should just stop questioning this from now on,” She said, and we all laughed again. “I'm just letting you lot know that dinner's ready,” She then told us.

“Okay Mum,” Linda responded, and Mrs. Trotter then left. With that, Linda untied me, and I then helped untie Lucy while Linda untied Sam. We all then headed downstairs for dinner as well.

* * * *

So yeah, we had a good dinner there, and soon enough it was time for Sam, Lucy, and me to head home. Once I got home I changed into a pair of my winter PJs, and watched TV with Dad for a while before bedtime.

“Good night Princess,” Dad told me, as I got up off the couch.

"Good night Dad," I said back, and then headed to my room for bed.

I'm not sure if Katie's mother was really mentioned earlier, I can't quite remember. However, thanks for clearing that mystery up, despite it not going the way I'd have liked. Perhaps that's where Katie's... bitterness?... comes from, not having a mother around.

Forget my theories though. An excellent start, as always. I eagerly await the next update.

Jeff mentions Katie's Mother at the beginning of the first story I wrote. "How it all began." I also reference it again somewhat in "Quality Time." I do apologize for any confusion. Also, I never intended for her to sound bitter, as you put it. Although I did intend for her, (along with her Dad and Uncle for that matter,) to sound sarcastic at times.

Bitter was probably the wrong word. I was more referring to some of the events mentioned in "Business and Pleasure," she seemed to have a tendancy to snap a fair bit.(though only towards males) But yeah, she is more sarcastic than anything, I definitely agree.

Regardless, looking forward to the next update.

Part 2: In this part, Katie gets a birthday surprise.

I woke up rather slowly today. I figured since it was my birthday, I had the right to sleep in. I turned to looked at my clock, and it looked as if it read 12:09. I rubbed my eyes, and looked at the clock again. Now it read 9:09.

“I guess I didn't sleep in as much as I thought,” I said to myself. I got out of bed, and while I normally take a shower right about now, I realized that I was rather hungry, so I broke protocol, and headed down stairs for some breakfast first.

I crossed the living room, and into the kitchen where Dad was making Eggs Benedict with his own homemade hollandaise sauce. Dad turned to me with a smile.

“Hey there Birthday Girl,” He greeted, as he started poaching another egg. I just grinned. “Whoops, I mean Baby Girl,” He then corrected. I just raised an eyebrow at him.

“Nice try,” I said. He just laughed.

“I was about two minutes away from heading up to see if you were awake,” He said.

“I thought I had slept in,” I told him. That's when something else drifted into my mind. “So, who are the two people who are coming over today?” I then asked. Dad gave me a sneer.

“I'm not telling just yet,” He said.

“Can you give me a clue?” I probed. Dad looked thoughtful for a moment. I gave him a puppy dog eyes look.

“Alright, one clue,” He said, and I instantly perked up. “I know them from my Days in the Navy.”

“So, before I was born,” I clarified.

“That's correct,” He said, and then served me a plate with two Eggs Benedict on it. I got out a fork, sat down, and began to eat. As I ate I kept thinking about what I was going to do today. I know that for a lot of people birthdays are a time of receiving gifts, going out and doing something, staying home and doing something, or any combination there of. I kinda lean towards a little some of everything.

Dad had made reservations at a restaurant called Divine Dragons which was a fabulous oriental restaurant, and oriental cuisine currently stands as my favorite. It started as a simple restaurant, and turned into a fine dining establishment over time. The reservations included us, as well as Sam, Linda, Lucy, and their families as well. I did try to invite Kelsey, but she had to catch up on her homework today due to her doctor's appointment yesterday.

“Well, I need to hop into the shower now,” I said, once I had finished eating.

I crossed the living room, headed upstairs, and back into my room to remove my Pjs. I wrapped myself in a towel, and headed to my bathroom. While I took my shower I pondered what I was going to wear to the restaurant. You see, Divine Dragons is one of those restaurants where men wear a suit and tie while ladies wear a fine dress.

Once my shower was over, I did my hair, and headed back to my room to get dressed for the day. I just threw on a pair of sweatpants and a light sweatshirt. I then put my hair into a ponytail. Once that was done, I opened my closet back up to see what my options were for going to the restaurant.

The truth was I didn't really have much to work with. I had a cocktail dress that may or may not actually still fit me, but not much else. Perhaps I could go with a skirt, and I nice button up shirt. I just shrugged as I looked things over. I was now pondering whether or not I should ask for Dad's advice.

“Pardon the intrusion,” A voice said. A voice that did not belong to my Dad I might add. I jumped a bit, as I saw a man about Dad's build standing in my doorway. He was dressed in a black shirt, and a pair of blue jeans. I couldn't make out his face as he was wearing a ski mask. This would surely take my mind off of what to wear later.

“Who the hell are you?!” I demanded. He didn't look like he was armed, so I knew I didn't have to be too polite.

“I'm just someone who your Dad managed to piss off a long time ago,” The Masked Man told me. “It took a long time to find him.”

“What do you want?” I asked the Man.

“Right now I just want you to come downstairs with me,” the Man requested, rather politely I might add.

“Okay then,” I said. I knew what to do for this situation. He was bigger then me, but I knew that one kick across his face would have him reeling. I could then jump him from behind, and hopefully make him pass out.

As I got close, I aimed my kick. I was quite surprised by the fact that he caught my foot, and then sent me to the ground before I knew what had happened. It didn't hurt, and it was almost as if the Man had intended it not to.

“Whoa,” I said in surprise.

“Now please don't do that again. I am more then a match for you, and I don't want you to get hurt,” The man requested. Once again, he sounded very considerate. I nodded yes, and stood back up. I was then marched down the hall and to the stairs.

From the top of the stairs I could see my Dad sitting on the couch. A woman was standing over him. She was wearing a white blouse, and a pair of khaki pants along with a ski mask of her own. Unlike the man however, she was armed with a pistol. It was pointed right at Dad. Somehow I doubted that these were the two people that Dad was expecting.

“Oh my god,” I said, in shock.

“Katie, just do what they say please,” Dad told me, and I nodded yes.

“Very good Jeffery,” The Woman said. The fact that they knew my Dad's name was not good at all. “Young Lady, would you please take a seat in that chair there please?” The Woman then requested. She was a bit more firm then her partner.

“Now what is this about?” Dad asked her.

“It's simple Jeff. This is about the four thousand three hundred fifty six dollars you scammed from my friend here twenty years ago,” The man said, now standing behind the chair I was sitting in. I blinked a bit. They've been tracking him down for a money amount that small? Not only that, they were demanding a number more specific then the time of day.

“You've been hunting my Dad for twenty years for that?” I asked. Something wasn't right here. That number had to have some significance.

“Katie, please be quiet,” Dad instructed.

“Do as your Father says,” The Woman then added.

“I didn't scam anything from you,” My Dad then insisted.

“Oh yes you did, and you're not in a position to be back talking me,” The Woman stated. Dad just sighed.

“Alright, what do you want?” He said. The woman smiled.

"You and I are going to take a trip down to the bank, and you are going to make a withdrawal,” She stated, and rather proudly.

“What about him?” Dad then asked, pointing at the man behind me.

“He's going to keep your daughter company,” She told him, with a smile. “Just in case you get any funny ideas.”

“After all,” The Man behind me started. “We wouldn't want anything to happen to her on her birthday now would we,” He then said. My eyes widened.

“How did you-” I stated, but then froze. I couldn't believe it. How did they know.

“Oh, we have our ways Young Lady,” The Man said to me, and then winked.

“Well Jeff, what are you waiting for?” The woman then asked him. Dad sighed, and looked over at me, and with a defeated look on his face, he rose from the couch.

“Dad, don't tell me that you're-” I started, but Dad shook his head no. I was more confused over this than scared. This wasn't like him. He could have easily overpowered these two, but he was instead cooperating with them. Maybe he knew something I didn't. Regardless, he grabbed the keys to the truck, and headed for the front door. He then cast a look over to me.

“I'll be back soon Katie,” He said, trying to force a smile. A smile I did return. He then turned to the Man. “If you hurt her-” He started.

“She'll be fine,” The Man then told him. With that, Dad opened the door, and headed outside with the Gun Toting woman right behind him.

Part 3: In this part, the Master Mind is revealed.

At this point I was really just trying to put together what was happening. Dad was cooperating with people he could easily overpower, and they were demanding a very oddly specific, (not to mention small,) amount of cash that he allegedly scammed from them twenty years ago.

“Well then Young Lady,” the Man said, now breaking the silence. “Do you have any rope?” He then asked. I turned to him with a look of suspicion.

“What for?” I asked back.

“I don't like the idea of keeping my guard up given the little stunt you tried to pull in the hallway,” He told me. “Now, do you have any rope?”

“Yeah, it's up stairs,” I sighed. Even though I was sure my Dad could take him on, I already had proof that I couldn't, so I decided it would be best if I cooperated for now.

“Show me,” He said. I shrugged, and then lead him upstairs back into my bedroom.

I then opened the bottom drawer of my dresser, and shifted some of my things aside until I found one of my shorter lengths of rope.

“Here, will this do?” I asked, handing the rope to him. He blinked at me.

“Um, why do you keep rope in your dresser?” He asked me. I then blinked. I really didn't want to answer that.

“Uh, I'd rather not say,” I answered. He smirked at me.

“You enjoy tying people up don't you,” He said. I frowned at him.

“No,” I scoffed. He was still grinning.

“Oh, you like to be tied up yourself then,” He guessed. He was starting to sound like Uncle Robert now. I was backed into a corner now, and my hesitation was all the answer he needed. He then nodded at me to prove it.

“Well, go ahead, and tie me up then!” I snapped.

“Let's head back down stairs first,” He suggested, and gestured me out of the room ahead of him. We both then headed back down stairs into the living room again.

We both then sat down on the couch, and my captor looked at me with a grin, and twirled his finger. I knew he wanted me to turn around. I nodded, and turned my back to him. I then felt my hands being guided behind my back where the rope was then applied to my wrists. I recognized the tie instantly. It was the square lashing that Dad likes to use.

“So, what is this all about?” I asked, as my wrists were being bound. The Man was very careful I might add.

“We told you what it was all about,” He answered, as he finished his work. “I hope that's not too tight,” He then added. I shook my head no, and kept pushing for answers.

“Four thousand three hundred fifty six dollars seems like a small amount of money to all this trouble for,” I pointed out. “Especially after twenty years.”

“My dear, it's the principal that counts,” My Captor insisted. “Your Father needs to learn what happens when he messes with the wrong people.”

“It still seems pretty weak to me,” I said, with a shrug.

“To you perhaps, but you weren't there to see it all happen with your own eyes,” The Man said. I just rolled my eyes.

We sat there, and we actually chatted for quite a bit. I don't remember what it involved. What I do remember was being rather surprised by the door suddenly opening. Even my captor jumped a bit. Dad was the first through the door, and when he saw me tied up, he looked quite angry.

“What have you done!?” He barked.

“It was a necessary precaution!” The Masked Man barked back. The Woman followed behind him. She didn't have the gun with her, but she did have a black briefcase in her left hand.

“It's all here,” She stated to her partner.

“Let me see it, I want to make sure of this myself,” He demanded, and then stood up to check it. “Yep, this is perfect.”

“I hope you've learned something here today Jeff,” The woman then told Dad. Dad just sighed, and nodded. The two crooks then looked at me.

“Why don't we show her as well,” The Man then suggested. I blinked a bit. “We'll let her see all the money that he scammed from us.”

“That's an excellent idea,” The Woman then said, and then looked at me with a wicked sneer. The Man approached me, and opened the briefcase to reveal, (drum roll please,)...no money inside. Nope, it was completely empty with the exception of a small note. The note read:...

Happy Birthday Sweetheart.

“Oh no!!” I whined, as it all now finally made sense. I just got played. The two Crooks and my Dad burst out laughing. I was sorta half crying, and half laughing myself.

“Katie, I wish you could have seen your face!” Dad bellowed, as he was laughing. “You two were marvelous!” He then told his two partners in this. Both of them then removed their ski masks. The Man was maybe a bit older then dad. He was possibly in his fifties with slightly longer hair that was just starting to turn a bit grayish.

The woman looked to have oriental heritage given her facial features, and she had long raven colored hair like Kelsey's. I was stunned.

“Really Dad? You set this up?” I asked, as it was all I could think of.

“Yes Katie, I set this up,” Dad confessed. “Just like how you set up that spider in my bed. I told you I was going to get you back for that,” He then pointed out. I just sighed. He was quite right of course. I gave him quite a scare with that spider last Halloween, and he did promise retribution. He got me pretty good.

“Yeah, I guess you're right,” I said, with a weak smile.

“Are we even now?” Dad asked. I nodded yes.

“Yes, we're even,” I said, with a slight moan. Dad then nodded.

“With that out of the way, Katie, I'd like you to meet Steve Hayward,” He said, gesturing to the the man. He then gestured to the Woman. “And Beth Travis,” He introduced. It turned out that these two were indeed the two people Dad wanted me to meet.

“Nice to meet you Katie,” Mr. Hayward greeted, and extended his hand. I scowled at him. “Ah, right,” He then said, and untied my hands. Once my hands were free, I shook his.

“Nice to meet you too,” I said, nervously.

“Steve, or rather Captain Hayward was my Commanding Officer when I was with the SEALs,” Dad then explained. My eyes grew very round.

“And I was the Head Nurse at the Hospital where your Mother worked,” Mrs. Travis then stated. I was at a loss for words. This day was already full of surprises, and it wasn't even lunch time yet.

“You look a lot like her too,” Captain Hayward pointed out.

“Yeah, I've seen her in the scrap books that Dad has,” I explained.

“The ones that feature her escape records?” Mrs. Travis then asked.

“Yeah,” I answered.

“Well, you seem to have taken up her hobby as well,” Mr. Hayward then mentioned with a grin.

“She did,” Dad then answered. How thoughtful of him. I felt my face turning red.

"Hey, don't be embarrassed," Mrs. Travis insisted. "She had a lot of fun doing what she did."

"Yeah, I know," I said. I remembered Dad telling me that my Mom would allow herself to be bound just for the fun of escaping, and that the people in the Hospital would place bets on how fast she did it too. That's when I remembered the one thing that still didn't make sense in Dad's prank: The amount of money being demanded.

“There is one thing I don't understand though,” I then stated. “What was the significance of the money demand?” I then asked. Dad then chuckled.

“That's how much money your Old Man won from us when we'd place bets on how fast your mother would escape,” Mr. Hayward answered. I nodded my understanding. Now that finally made sense as well.

Part 4: In this part, Katie opens up about her past a bit while Linda provides some fun new toys for her.

Before I could think this all the way through, the doorbell rang. Lucy or Sam was likely at the door, so I got up to answer it. I was greeted by Uncle Robert.

"Oh, hi Uncle Robert," I greeted.

“Hey Chick-a-boom. Happy birthday,” He greeted back, and gave me a hug.

“Thank you,” I said, and allowed him in.

“Hey Steve, Hi Beth, How are ya?” He then greeted to our two guests, and shook their hands.

“Doing fine Robert,” Mr. Hayward greeted back. “We just gave your niece a little birthday surprise,” He then said. I just rolled my eyes, and unfortunately my Uncle saw it.

“Oh, this I gotta hear,” He said. We all then told him about the prank.

“The thing is, I put a spider in Dad's bed last Halloween, so this was his payback,” I told him. Uncle Robert was grinning with every word spoken.

“Katie, you got off lucky compared to a few other people who found out the hard way not to prank your Dad,” Uncle Robert stated.

“I'll vouch for that,” Mrs. Travis added.

“So, anyone want some Clam Chowder?” Dad then asked. We all said yes, and took our conversion to the kitchen. Dad then began stirring the chowder he had cooking in the Slow Cooker. Oh, and this was home made chowder. This was not the stuff you get out of a can.

“So, are you still in construction Robert?” Mr. Hayward then asked.

“Yeah, although I do Math Tutoring as well,” Uncle Robert answered.

“Excellent,” Mr. Hayward responded, and then gave Dad a thank you, as he received a bowl of chowder.

“What about you? Are you still working with the horses?” Uncle Robert asked.

“You work with horses?” I then asked, now quite interested. “Oh, thanks Dad,” I then added, as he handed me a bowl of chowder next.

“Yep, I have a ranch back home,” Mr. Hayward mentioned. “You like horses do ya?”

“Well, my Neighbor, Sam and I, used to do Barrel Racing when we were younger,” I answered.

“Oh really?” Mrs. Travis asked. I just nodded yes. “If you don't mind me asking, why did you stop?”

“Well, it wasn't really our choice. The barn we would go to deteriorated, and had to be abandoned,” I explained.

“Oh, that's unfortunate,” She then said. I just shrugged.

“Yeah, we couldn't find another one close by, so we kinda let it go from there,” I said.

“Well Katie, if you want to get back in the saddle, and can make a visit to Ohio, just look me up,” Mr. Hayward stated. I smiled at him.

“I think I'd like that a lot,” I said. I then turned to Mrs. Travis. “By the way Mrs. Travis, are you still nursing?” I then asked.

“No, I am a Doctor now at New Hampshire Hospital,” She said, with a look of pride in her eyes.

“Oh cool,” I then said.

“Jeff, you are a fantastic cook,” Mr. Hayward then said, as he took sipped another spoonful of chowder. Dad gave him a grin.

“I did learn from the best,” He stated.

“Who? Mom?” I asked. Dad snorted.

“Her, and my Mom,” Dad said. I just nodded. It made perfect sense.

I continued to sip my chowder while the adults talked about adult type stuff. Or at least, things that only adults are interested in. Once I was done, I put my bowl into the sink, and filled it with water.

“Well, thanks for the chowder Jeff,” Mr. Hayward said.

“I can take that,” I said, motioning to his bowl.

“Oh, thank you,” He said, and handed the bowl to me. I then filled it with water as well. I then did the same thing for Uncle Robert, Dad, and finally Mrs. Travis.

“So, what are you doing for your birthday other then heading out to Divine Dragons?” Mrs. Travis asked. I paused for a minute. I hadn't really thought about that.

“I don't know, I thought I'd just chill until it was time for us to leave,” “I answered. That's when another question entered my mind. “By chance are you going to be joining us?” I then asked, in a hopeful tone.

“Yes we are,” Mr. Hayward answered with a smile. I smiled back, but then sighed, as an earlier issue entered my mind.

“The thing is, I don't know what I'm going to wear,” I said. “I was looking at a few things when you stumbled upon me,” I said to Mr. Hayward.

“Oh, I'm sure you'll come across something,” Dad said, in a tone that suggested that he knew something that I didn't. He had the smirk to match it, and everyone else looked as though they were trying to look innocent. It was very likely they knew what that something was as well.

I didn't have long to think about it though, as I heard the doorbell ring. Perhaps that was Sam, or Lucy, or possibly even both of them. Nope, when I answered the door, I was greeted Linda's Family.

“Hello Kate. Happy Birthday,” Linda greeted, and we shared a quick hug. A hug that was also provided by her parents as well.

“Thank you,” I said, and allowed them all inside.

“Linda, Ted, Debra, I'd like you all to meet Steve Hayward, and Beth Travis,” Dad introduced.

“Ah, my pleasure,” Mr. Trotter stated, as he shook Mr. Hayward's hand, and then followed up with Mrs. Travis as well.

“Steve was my Commanding Officer during my Navy years, and Beth was the head nurse at the hospital on the base at the time,” Dad then explained.

“I'm delighted to meet you both,” Mrs. Trotter then stated, as She and Linda shook their hands as well.

“Like wise,” Mrs. Travis said back, with a smile. While they chatted, Linda turned to me.

“Could you excuse me for a minute, I need to head back to the car for something,” She said, and then turned to her Father. “Dad, could I have the keys please?” She then asked.

“Oh sure,” Mr. Trotter said, and dug into his pocket for his car keys. He then handed them to Linda.

“Thank you,” She said, and then turned to me. “I'll be right back,” She said, and then left the house briefly. She returned a few minutes later with a couple small packages wrapped in brightly colored paper.

“Oh, you shouldn't have,” I said, now smiling. I'm glad they were small. When it comes to my birthday, I tend to prefer small sentimental things. Linda then motioned for me to lean in close. “You may want to wait for your other guests to leave before you open them,” She whispered. That was a pretty big clue as to what could be inside. Little did she know that Mr. Hayward and Mrs. Travis were already accustomed to the games we play.

“They already know,” I said.

“Oh?” Linda asked.

“Remember the story I told you about my Mom? And the bets everyone would place?” I asked her.

“Oh, were they in on it?” Linda then asked. I just nodded yes. She then looked over at the two who were now shaking hands with everyone else, and then they grabbed their jackets.

“Oh, are you both leaving?” I asked.

“Yeah, we have some things to take care of,” Mr. Hayward answered.

“Well, I certainly hope to speak with you again some day,” Mr. Trotter told him.

“We'll be at the restaurant later,” Mrs. Travis stated.

“Oh, well, we'll look foreword to seeing you then,” Mr. Trotter said. Mr. Hayward nodded, and then turned to me.

“It was good to meet you Katie,” He said. “I hope you have a great birthday,” He then added, and we shook hands.

“We'll see you at the restaurant,” Mrs. Travis then said, and with that, we all said our good-byes, and they both left. I then took in a breath.

“Well, should I open these now or later?” I asked. Everyone pretty much just shrugged.

“It's up to you,” Mrs. Trotter answered. I shrugged myself, and began to unwrap the smaller of the two packages to reveal a small box. I then opened the box.

“Oh jeez,” I said, once I saw what was inside it. I felt my face turning red while Linda started laughing. Inside the box were a few slip-on gags in various colors.

“Um, what is that?” Uncle Robert asked, as I pulled one out made with a red headband. Remember, he hasn't seen these yet.

“It's a genuine Gag Gift,” I stated. This only made Linda laugh harder, and her parents got a chuckle out of that as well. My Uncle just blinked.

“I'll take your word for it,” He said. I put the gag back into the box, and moved on to the next parcel. “Why do I get the feeling this goes with those?” I then asked aloud. Linda just smirked.

Sure enough I was right. The next package contained two pairs of handcuffs made from a sponge like material, and fastened with Velcro. One set was red while the other was black. The cuffs on both sets were connected by key rings.

“Oh Linda,” I said, shaking my head, and grinning.

“They were connected by chains at first, but they were too long, so we switched them out for key rings,” Linda explained.

“I see,” I said. “Well, thank you all so much,” I then said. Linda's family certainly understood value. The gifts were small, simple, and would be put to good use for sure.

author's Note: just letting people know that part 5 is in the works.

Note from Katie: I'd also like to point out something that I forgot to mention earlier. The "Barn" I mentioned was actually more of a Summer Camp, and not just a barn in the middle of nowhere, or something like that. Just thought I'd point that out. But as I mentioned before though, the buildings had deteriorated, and the camp was abandoned

Part 5: In this part, Lucy provides Katie with some winter lounge wear while Sam gives her a lost memory.

I crumpled up the wrapping paper to be put into the recycling, and then went up stairs with Linda right behind me. I took the cuffs out of the box, and placed both sets in the bottom drawer of my dresser.

“Actually, hold on a minute,” I said aloud, and then pulled one set back out.

“Something wrong?” Linda asked.

“No, I was just wondering something,” I answered. I undid the Velcro on both cuffs, and then wrapped one around my left wrist. I then tried to do the same with the other, but I couldn't position my hands correctly to do it.

“Here, let me help,” Linda said, and then wrapped the cuff around my wrist for me.

“Oh, thanks,” I said. Now that my hands were cuffed together, I tugged at them to see how well they held. I nodded my approval given the fact that they didn't come undone. “These are really comfortable Linda,” I complimented.

“I'm glad you like them,” She said, to which I smiled. I then decided to see if I could remove them myself. With little effort I was able to unwrap the cuff on my left wrist, and then followed up with my right.

“So, I can't put them on myself, but it seems I can remove them. That seems rather backwards when you think about it,” I pointed out, and we both laughed. I then heard a knock on my door. “Yeah?” I called.

“Katie, you have a few more visitors,” Dad said, from behind the door. I looked at Linda.

“I think Sam and Lucy are here,” I stated.

“I think you may be right,” Linda responded, and we both left my room, and headed back down stairs again.

"Happy Birthday Katie!” I heard once I reached the staircase. Both Sam and Lucy's Families had arrived.

“Thanks everyone,” I said, now starting to feel a bit embarrassed from the attention. I went down stairs, and gave each of my friends a friendly hug. Amy and Lauren exchanged high fives with me. I also greeted their parents in a similar fashion as well.

“Hello Sam, Lucy, Amy, Lauren” Linda then greeted.

“Hey Linda,” They all greeted back, and they shared a quick hug as well.

“Anyways Katie,” Sam said, and then gestured to one of the end tables by the couch. It had two new mystery gifts placed upon it. Both were large yet flat. They may have been clothes boxes.

“Thanks you guys,” I said with a smile.

While the adults chatted away about whatever it was they were interested in, I sat down on the couch with Lucy beside me. Linda and Sam made themselves comfortable in a couple of chairs close by. Amy and Lauren had selected the couch across from mine.

“By the way,” Lucy then said. “I heard your Dad pulled a prank on you?” She then asked. I felt my face turn red again. I guess she found out while I was still upstairs with Linda.

“I'm sorry, what?” Linda then asked.

“Yeah, I forgot to tell you about that part,” I said, with a nervous grin.

“Oh, this aut to be good,” Amy said, with a wicked smile.

“Remember last Halloween when I borrowed that spider Linda?” I then asked her. Lucy and Sam became wide eyed.

“Oh yes indeed,” Linda said. She knew what I did with it.

“I put it into Dad's bed,” I stated. There was a pause before we all burst out laughing.

“You didn't!” Sam snapped.

“She did!” Dad snapped back, and all five of them started giggling.

“So I take it your Dad got payback today,” Lauren said. I nodded my head yes, and then told them what happened. My friends were trying so hard not to laugh at my misfortune.

“Wow, I wish I could have been here to see that,” Lucy said, still grinning.

“You'll get a chance to meet Mr. Hayward and Mrs. Travis later, as they will be joining us at Divine Dragons later,” I stated..

“Oh nice,” Sam said. Lucy then clapped her hands together.

“By the way Katie, you have two gifts in need of opening,” She pointed out. I smiled.

“Well, if you insist,” I said, and then scooted over to the end table to select my first victim.

“Hey guys! Katie's opening her presents!” Sam called, trying to get our parents attention. Everyone else turned their attention to us now.

“Hold that thought for second Ted,” Dad requested.

“Right,” Mr. Trotter agreed. I felt myself blushing again. I then selected a package that was labeled to me from Lucy. I gave her a smile, and then removed the wrapping paper to reveal a clothes box. After removing the tape from the edge of the box, (with some help from a pair of scissors from the drawer in the end table,) I opened the box up.

“Oh Lucy, you know me so well,” I complimented, as I saw what was inside. It was a black and white plaid flannel shirt with long sleeves, and a button front.

“Pull it out a bit more,” Lucy said. I quirked an eyebrow at her, and followed her instruction. As I pulled the shirt out, I saw that the tail was long enough to reach my knees. It also came with a matching belt of sorts.

“Oh, it's a Shirt Dress,” I stated.

“That looks perfect for lounging,” Dad pointed out. I nodded my head in agreement.

“Very much so. Thank you Lucy, as well as you Mr. and Mrs. Wolff,” I said, sounding quite delighted. For those of you who like visuals, here ya go...

After setting the garment carefully back into it's box, I set it aside, and then moved on to the next gift from Sam. I unwrapped the paper, and was pleased to see that there was no tape to cut from the box. The box itself was very similar to the previous one, but held no clothes in it.

“Oh Sam,” I said, in a joyful tone of voice, once I opened the box. It was a picture of the two of us on horseback. It was about a year and a half ago. Just before the Horse Camp had folded up. We were both wearing equestrian themed polo shirts, riding breeches, helmets, and boots. In fact the boots I was wearing in the photo are the same ones I wear when riding the motorcycle with Dad. Both of us were facing the camera with a pair of smiles. The picture had also been professionally framed as well.

“I remember that day,” Mr. Parker said.

“You never told me you did horseback riding,” Linda pointed out, sounding a bit taken aback, but also intrigued.

“Well, you never asked,” I mentioned, with a shrug.

“We both had a copy of this photo, but Katie's went missing about a year ago,” Sam explained.

“I still think it was during the house cleaning,” I added.

“So we had another copy made from my photo, and we framed it for you as well,” Sam stated. I remember that day very well. It was our last barrel race. She finished second while I had come in third. Sam's Mother then wanted a picture of the two of us, and this was it.

“You know, I was so upset when this went missing,” I said. I then turned back to Sam again. “Thank you so much.”

“My pleasure Katie,” Sam said, with a twinkle in her eyes.

The next part has another one simply due to the fact that it would take me too long to describe something in detail, and I don't think you want three paragraphs dedicated to the description of one item.

Part 6: In this part Katie's worries on what to wear to the restaurant...are put to rest.

So yeah, I put my gifts back into their boxes, before taking them back upstairs to my room, and then rejoining my friends back down in the living room again.

“So, anyone want to do Smash For Glory to pass the time?” I asked. My friends just shrugged.

“Sure,” Sam said.

“Hey Dad!” I called, trying to get his attention.

“Yeah?” He answered back.

“We're going into the TV room,” I told him. He then nodded.

“Alright,” He said, and then went back to his conversation.

I turned the TV on, and then our Wii U only to find that Hyrule Warriors was still in the console. I switched out the games, and then started up Smash 4. We all then did a small Rock/Paper/Scissors tournament to determine who would play first. The first team up was Lucy and Lauren. We'd simply play a match, and then pass the controllers to the next team in line.

While I sat back on the couch, and relaxed. I looked over at the clock briefly. It was already two O'clock. Time flies when one is having fun after all. It was about two and a half hours until we'd need to start thinking about getting ready to leave for the restaurant. I was still trying to think of what to wear. I didn't think my new shirtdress would be appropriate.

“Hey guys, I was wondering something,” I said aloud. Lucy exited the For Glory screen after she and Lauren won so that she could give me her attention.

“Go ahead,” She said.

“What all were you going to wear to Divine Dragons tonight?” I asked. Lucy just shrugged.

“I was going with my Prom Dress from last year personally,” She said.

“Same here,” Linda then chimed in. The two of them then bumped fists. I then nodded.

“Yeah, I still have mine, but it's boring, and I wanted something with a little more...i don't know...”

“Flare to it?” Amy then asked, as she and Sam were next to play. I then snapped my finger.

“Yeah, that's the word I was looking for,” I answered. Linda then shrugged, and smiled.

“Oh, I'm sure something will come to mind,” She said, and in that I know-something-you-don't voice. I then looked at her. She had the same smirk on her face that Dad did.

“You know something I don't,” I stated. Linda just nodded her head. “I wish I knew wether this was good or bad.”

“Oh it's good...very good,” She said. I blinked at her.

“Good for you, or good for me?” I asked. Right now everyone else in the room was giggling.

“It's good for you. Don't worry,” Linda finally said, in a reassuring voice. I was then surprised by a GameCube controller landing in my lap.

“You're up Katie,” Amy told me. I just shrugged it off, and selected Fox. My hopes of winning were dashed when I saw that I was partnered with Sam. I figured it would be best if I didn't show it though.

Once the match started however we knew something was wrong. Sam took Ganondorf in against a Link player, (How poetic), who seemed to know less about what he was doing then Sam did. Sam put in an up tilt just to see what happened, and sure enough, the Link player foolishly tried to shield against it.

“Oh wow!” I cried, as I footstooled his partner for a knockout. Sam then did Ganondorf's Reverse Warlock Punch to seal the deal, and we were now up by two. That was pretty much how the rest of the match went, and we won by at least ten points. We would have had more, but we started goofing around ourselves.

“I never thought I'd encounter people who were worse then me,” Sam said, shaking her head.

“I wish we could find people like them more often,” I then chimed in.

4:30 pm...

Cut to a few hours later, and we had some really good matches during the next hour and a half. We didn't win all of them as you may expect, but most of them were good. We had a few more like the last one I mentioned, and you can imagine how embarrassed Amy and I were when we still lost.

“Oh, Hi Dad,” Linda said, as her Father, as well as mine, entered the room.

“Just letting you know it's time for us to leave so we can get ourselves ready,” He told her.

“Alright,” Linda said, and then stood up. “I'll see you at the restaurant Katie.”

“See ya there,” I said back.

“So Katie, do you know what you were going to wear yet?” My Dad then asked. I frowned a bit, and shook my head.

“No, not really,” I sighed. Dad's lips curled into a grin.

“I think I can help you,” He said, and then motioned with his finger for me to follow him. My friends and I looked at each other, and shrugged. We then followed him back into the living room. My heart was now racing. What did he have in mind.

“I think you have one more birthday gift coming up,” Sam said to me.

“That would be correct,” Dad said, as he ascended the stairs. I looked around to see everyone else's reactions. Rather surprisingly, everyone looked like they were trying to hold something in.

“You all know what this is don't you,” I guessed.

“I'm not saying anything,” Sam's Mother said. I just rolled my eyes.

Soon enough, Dad came back down stairs with a large box wrapped in shiny green paper. It looked like yet another apparel box.

“Happy birthday Katie,” Dad said, as he handed me the parcel.

“Thank you,” I said softly.

I unwrapped the gift to uncover what was unquestionably another apparel box. My anxiety was building. The grin on Dad's face only made my heart beat faster. I went to open it, but noticed it was taped shut.

“Oh, here,” Dad said, as he pulled out a multi tool from his pocket, and flipped the knife out. He then gave the knife to me.

“Thanks,” I said, and cut the tape away. I handed the knife back to him, and pulled the lid off the box knowing there could be anything in there...like tissue paper for instance.

I folded the paper over to reveal what was inside. What I saw almost made my heart stop. I let out a gasp, and put my hands to my mouth in shock. Resting in the box was a Cheongsam Dress made of soft red woolen fabric. I just sat there and gawked at it with my jaw dropped, and my eyes wide.

“Dad,” I muttered, and turned to look at him with an almost teary eyed expression. “I don't know what to say,” I said, finally finding my voice again. I then got an ovation of claps from everyone around me. My face was almost the same color as the dress now.

I pulled the dress out, and held it up to myself to see how it looked. The dress had a long skirt that almost reached my ankles with two big slits at either side of the hem that reached all the way up to the thighs. The sleeves were about elbow length with small slits at the ends as well. The entire dress had black tipping outlining the edges, sleeves, the slanted lapel that adorned the front, and the high mandarin collar on top.

The collar was the traditional semicircle shape with both sides being symmetrical. The front of the dress also had a series of frog buttons that started at the base of the collar, traveled across the lapel, and down the right side ending at the thigh. I was delighted.

“So I'm guessing this is what those measurements were for Mrs. Trotter?” I asked, as I looked over at her. She was trying so hard not to laugh...or cry. It was one of the two. She then nodded at me.

I looked the dress over again, and one thing did puzzle me a bit.

“How do I put it on? Do I unbutton it?” I asked, as I went to undo the top button.

“Yep,” Dad said. I looked at the back again. Sure enough I was able to open up one of the buttons at the front of the dress. Naturally this meant the rest would come undone as well.

“Aright everyone, let's get ready to head out,” Dad then suggested. We all nodded, and said our good-byes, as well as our “see you when we get there”s. Once everyone else had left, Dad then turned to me. “Alright Katie, go try it on,” He stated.

I didn't need to be told twice. I carefully placed the garment back in the box, and took it up stairs. What a wonderful birthday present. I opened the door to my room, set the box on my bed, and got undressed. Now it was time for me to put my new dress on.

I thought about whether I should wear tights with it or not, and decided not to. I reopened the box, pulled the dress out, and laid it out neatly on my bed with the front facing me.

I unbuttoned the dress all the way. Now, for the moment of truth. I was really hoping this fit. I crossed my fingers briefly, took in a deep breath, and slipped the dress on. I pulled my hair out from under it, draped it over my left shoulder, and I then buttoned the dress back up again. Once I finished with the last button at the base of the collar, I shifted my hair back behind me.

It felt luxurious. It was light, soft, and comfortable. I walked over to my closet so I could look at myself in the mirror. When I saw my reflection, my eyes started tearing up. My dress fully accentuated every aspect of my figure. The slits in the skirt showed off my legs while the body hugged my curves to perfection. The collar felt cozy, and flattered my neck nicely. I smiled warmly as my reflection did the same. The dress was very retro, yet elegant.

Here are a few picks of my new dress...

(Mine is the red one)

I walked over to my dresser to grab a couple extra accessories to touch up my outfit just a tad more. My items of choice were a pair of hair clips. After rummaging around the drawer I pulled out two hair clips with a small, white rose on each of them. With the mirror's help I added them to my hair just behind my ears. I also shifted my side bangs in front of my shoulders for a more classy look.

I was at a loss for words. All I could do was stand there staring at my reflection with teary eyes. I twisted a bit to get a better look at my legs, and also ran my hands down the length of my body a few times. It was now time for me to see how Dad was doing. I closed the door to the closet, and left my room.

Part 7: In this part, Our guests assemble.

I decided it would be best not to pester Dad directly, and simply made my way back down to the living room again to wait for him. I began to slowly pace a bit with my hands clasped behind my back. I could only imagine his reaction when he heads downstairs to see me.

A few minutes later, I heard the door to his bedroom open, and then close. I then saw him appear at the top of the stairs. He was dressed very handsomely in a gray suit with a Rush Limbaugh style tie, finely polished shoes, and his hair slicked back. When he saw me, he paused, and took in the sight before him. I just smiled warmly.

“Oh my,” He said softly, with a look of awe on his face. I shrugged a bit.

“How do I look?” I asked him. He then descended the rest of the stairs.

“Katie, you look absolutely beautiful,” He answered. We then gave each other a hug.

“Thank you,” I said to him. He then let go of me, and held me in front of him.

“My Baby Girl's growing up into a lovely Lady,” Dad said. This made me chuckled out of embarrassment a bit. It was the good kind of embarrassment of course.

“I'll go get my coat now,” I then told him.

“Uh uh,” Dad insisted. My smile dropped a bit. “You are going to stand right there, and let me take a few pictures of you,” He then demanded. Once again, I giggled a bit.

Dad pulled his phone out of his pocket, and backed up a few paces. I decided to pose with my hands folded in front of me with a friendly and warm smile on my face. Dad then snapped the photo.

“You want another one?” I asked him.

“Sure,” He responded. This time I posed with my hands behind my back, and smiled again. Dad then snapped that photo as well. Once he saved the photos, he put his phone back into his pocket.

“Can I get my coat now?” I asked. Dad then nodded. I nodded back, and headed upstairs to fetch a maxi length walking coat that was dark navy blue. I then went back down stairs to see Dad waiting for me by the door. It was now time for us to head out to the truck.

As I made my way to the passenger seat I saw Sam, and her family climbing into their van. Once they saw me, Sam and the twins walked over. Sam was dressed in a blue cocktail dress and a coat very similar to mine, although it was a bit shorter. She had some eyeliner on, along with a bit of lipstick, and her hair was put into a ponytail.

The twins were dressed in identical silver prom style dresses with a pair of hooded jackets. They had similar eyeliner and lipstick as well. Amy put her hair into a half up style while Lauren had her hair loose with some curls at the ends.

“Hey Katie, can I see the dress?” Sam asked.

“Sure,” I chirped. I then unbuttoned my coat, and opened it so that she could get a better look. Although, I didn't think she'd be able to see it very well given the fact that it was getting pretty dark right now.

“Wow Katie, ”Sam complimented.

“It's kinda hard to see given how dark it is, but you look great,” Amy then added.

“Thanks,” I said, with a smile. “You'll get a better look once we get to the restaurant.”

“We'll see you there,” Sam said, and with that, all three of them rejoined their family.

At the restaurant...

Dad parked the truck right next to the Trotter's car, and we both got out. I walked over to the front door where Linda's family was waiting for us. Linda had on a coat similar to mine. Under that coat was a gold prom dress with a skirt that reached her shins, and was a bit revealing. She had her hair in a ponytail that she draped over her left shoulder.

Mrs. Trotter was dressed very similarly to her daughter. She was wearing a fancy blue dress with her hair held in place with a couple barrettes. Mr. Trotter was dressed in a a fine tuxedo with his hair slicked back very similar to my Dad. I swear the only thing he was missing was a monocle. We then greeted each other accordingly.

“So, you like it?” She asked me. I knew she was talking about the dress.

“Very much so,” I answered back. “How did you know?”

“Very simple. I'm the one who showed it to your Dad. I have a couple of those types of dresses which we got from the same website,” Linda explained.

“No kidding,” I said back.

As we entered the restaurant, I unbuttoned my coat, and took it off. Dad then graciously held onto it for me. Linda's Father then did the same for her, as well as his Wife. We were then greeted by the receptionist.

“Hello, do you have a reservation?” She asked.

“Narrows, Party of Eleven,” Dad stated.

“Are you all ready?” The receptionist asked.

“Not yet, we're still waiting for a few people,” Dad answered. The Lady nodded, and moved on to other things while we waited.

The next people to arrive were Captain Hayward and Dr. Travis. Dr. Travis had on a red evening gown with her hair put up into a bun. The Captain was dressed rather similar to Dad. He had on a black suit with a red and green striped tie. Given the fact that Christmas was coming up, I thought it was a nice touch.

A few minutes later, we were joined by Uncle Robert. I half expected to see him in his biker gear with a tie thrown over it just so he could say he had one on. Nope, he had on a gray suit like Dad, and a leopard printed tie. He was followed up by Sam's family, and finally with Lucy's.

Lucy had on a green cocktail dress which contrasted her auburn hair stunningly. She left it loose, and had a bit of soft red lipstick on as well. Mrs. Wolff was dressed in an evening gown that was the same shade of green as her daughter's dress, and had her hair in a half up style. Last but not least, Mr. Wolff was dressed in a white tuxedo with black polished shoes.

“Wow Katie, that dress looks so nice on you,” Mrs. Wolff complimented while Lucy just beamed at me with a nod of approval.

“Thank you,” I said, with a smile. It was at that point the receptionist had returned to us.

“Is your party ready yet?” She asked. Dad looked at our group briefly.

“Yep, we're ready,” He stated, and with that, we were all lead to our table.

Well, truth be told it was actually a few tables that were pushed together to make one large table. Eleven chairs were also surrounding it. Dad, being the perfect gentleman that he is, pulled my chair out for me, so I could sit down. Dad then hung my coat on the back of my chair. He and the other men did the same for all of the other ladies as well.

I just looked across at everything that was going on. Mr. Hayward and Mrs. Travis were getting to know the Wolffs and the Parkers quite well. They'd chat a bit, and then laugh every once in a while.

“So that's the guy who taught your Dad everything he knows huh,” Sam said to me.

“Yep,” I chirped. I then grinned. “Dad also taught him a thing or two as well if you know what I mean,” I added.

“Yes I do,” She said back, and we both giggled. It was then Lucy's turn to speak.

"Also Katie, I just thought I'd mention that the only thing your Dad and Uncle are missing are a pair of dark sunglasses to go with those suits," She said. I looked over at the two of them, and kinda nodded a bit.

"Truth be told, I was almost expecting my Uncle to be wearing his typical biker stuff with a tie thrown on just so he could get in," I said, with a smirk.

"Hey, it worked for Rick Vaughn," Lucy said back, with a shrug. I chuckled, and nodded at her remark.

"Who?" Linda asked.

"Watch a movie called Major League. you'll understand," I answered. Linda then shrugged, and nodded.

I don't remember what we all talked about, but it wasn't for very long, because a few minutes later, we were greeted by a young woman in about her late twenties who was dressed in a black skirt with black tights, and a white blouse.

“Hello, My name is Marry, and I'll be your server today,” She greeted. We all said hello as well. “Is there anything I can get started for you?” She then asked.

“Do we all know what we're getting yet?” Dad asked us. Several people, including me, shook their heads no, as we were still deciding on what to eat. Dad took note of this, and ordered a few appetizers to pass the time.

“Can I get you all some drinks?” Marry asked us next. We all then ordered drinks respectively. “Alright, is there anything else I can get for you while you decide?” She then asked. This was a bit of a mistake.

“Um, your phone number?” Uncle Robert asked, in a hopeful voice. This got a laugh from everyone.

“Somehow I knew he'd say something like that,” Mr. Hayward stated.

“That's a good one, I like that,” Marry said, once she was done laughing as well. “I actually had someone ask me for a million dollars once too,” She then added.

“I'm guessing that it didn't happen,” I said. Marry shook her head no.

“Anyways, to answer your question, I think we're good for now, we just need a bit more time,” Dad explained to her.

“Alright, I'll be back in a little while,” Marry said, and then walked off.

Final Part: In this part, People attempt to predict the future, and later, Katie has some fun with her new toys.

“So Girls, how's school been for you?” Mr. Hayward then my friends and I. We all looked at each other briefly, and just shrugged a bit.

“It's been okay I guess,” I said with a bit of a sigh.

“Same here,” Sam said. They rest nodded in agreement.

“Yeah, I know how it is,” Mr. Hayward said back, in an understanding tone. “Any idea want you want to do when you graduate?” He then asked. I blinked a bit. That was something I didn't really consider yet.

“I-I honestly don't know,” I told him. “I guess I'm just going to see what I'm best at, and go from there,” I answered. “I'll cross that bridge when I come to it if you follow me.”

“Oh I understand perfectly,” Mr. Hayward said.

“I was thinking of going into computer programing actually,” Lucy said.

“You'd be a natural at it,” I added. Lucy then gave me a perky grin.

“That's my field,” Dad then said, pausing his conversation with Mr. Parker briefly.

“Lucy, why don't you tell him what you do right now,” Sam then suggested. Lucy blinked at her.

“What?” She asked. Sam almost glared at her.

“Smash,” She hissed. Lucy then finally saw the light.

“Smash?” Mr. Hayward asked.

“She competes in tournaments for Super Smash Bros.,” Mrs. Travis explained to him.

“Oh, I gotcha,” Mr. Hayward said. “You win prize money at these?”

“Yep,” Lucy chirped.

“I've also competed a couple times with her on the doubles format,” I added. Mr. Hayward nodded to us, and then got caught in another conversation between Uncle Robert and Mr. Trotter. My attention turned to Mrs. Travis.

“You're familiar with the Smash Tournament Community?” I asked her.

“Not really, but my brother as a fan, and he watches them whenever he can,” She explained. I was going to ask her something else, but I don't remember what it was, because I was interrupted by something very wonderful.

“Oh, food's here,” Sam then said. Marry and another Waiter stopped by our table, and dropped off our appetizers for us. One by one, a bowl of Wonton Soup was placed in front of each of us. We all then said our thanks.

“Alright everyone, enjoy,” Marry insisted, and then the two headed for other tables.

“I love Wonton Soup so much,” I said aloud, and took a sip. It was perfect. Not too hot, and not too overpowering.

So, I don't really know what else to say from this point. Rather then ordering individual dishes, Divine Dragons instead serves family oriented dishes that everyone at the table shares among themselves. Dad ordered somewhere around three or four of these to ensure no one left hungry, and got to sample a bit of everything.

Once dinner was over, Dad paid the bill, and left a very generous tip. Mr. Hayward was also nice enough to give it a little support as well.

“Well everyone, I hope we meet again sometime in the near future,” Mrs. Travis told us.

“I hope so too,” I said, and I shook her hand one last time. We all then exchanged our good-byes, and with that done, Dad and I headed for the truck...or at least we were until Uncle Robert stopped us.

“Hey Katie!” He called. I looked over at him, and he was carrying a gift wrapped in blue paper. “Sorry I forgot to bring this over earlier,” He then said, and handed me the gift. It looked like yet another clothes box.

“Oh, thank you,” I said. I then gave him a hug, and we both went our separate ways.

Once we got back to the house, Dad changed into his pajamas. I decided to leave my dress on until bedtime, as I was enjoying it immensely. I sat down on the couch with my newest gift beside me as I waited for Dad to rejoin me.

“Alright Katie, go ahead,” He called from the top of the stairs. I began opening the present, as he descended the stairs. I was right, it was another clothes box. I noticed that it was un-taped, so I just opened it up to reveal what was inside.

“Oh, there it is,” I said, with a grin. It was my Uncle this year who kept the tradition alive. Inside was a black polo shirt with a white Big Pony logo on the left chest. This shirt however was slightly different from the others I usually received on my birthday. First of all, this shirt had long sleeves. Also, rather then having my last name on the back, this shirt had a vintage year, "RL15", in white on the right hem.

“You didn't think this little tradition was over, did you?” Dad asked. I looked thoughtful for a moment.

“Maybe just a little bit,” I said. Dad smiled at me.

“Well, go ahead, and hang it up, and I'll get the movie ready,” He requested. One of our other traditions is that we always watch A Christmas Story on the weekend following Thanksgiving. I nodded, and put the shirt back into the box.

Once I made my way back to my room, I took the shirt back out, found an empty hanger in my closet, and hung my new shirt up. As I closed my closet door, I let out a breath, and looked at myself in the mirror again.

“What a great day this has been,” I said aloud. I always like when things are kept nice and simple. I also had a few new toys to play with as well. That's when I had a thought. I remembered trying to cuff my hands earlier, but I didn't have too much success with it. Maybe I'd try again while watching the movie.

I went to my dresser, and pulled out my new black handcuffs. I also decided to pull out one of my new gags as well. (Because, why not?”) Since I was going with the black cuffs, I selected a red gag, and then headed down stairs to the TV room. (For those of you who have been hoping I'd be tied up while wearing this dress. Your patience is about to be rewarded.)

“I thought you might be bringing those with you,” Dad said, as he saw me enter the room. The TV was on, and he hit play for the movie to start.

“Yeah, I'm trying to work out how to put them on myself,” I confessed, as I sat down on the couch beside him. I then made another attempt. “The first cuff is easy,” I explained, as I wrapped a cuff around my right wrist. “But I can't position my hands to get the other one on,” I said, as I showed him the trouble I was having.

“You want some help?” He then asked.

“Sure,” I chirped. Dad then wrapped the other cuff around my left wrist. “Now, I can take them off just fine,” I then said, as I demonstrated.

“You're just having difficult time putting them on,” Dad said. He looked like he was about to start laughing. “That seems rather backwards,” He then said.

“I said the same thing to Linda too,” I said back.

“Do you want to keep trying, or would you like to wear them for a while?” Dad asked me. I thought for a minute.

“I think I'd just like to relax, and wear them for a bit,” I answered.

“In front of behind?” Dad asked. I grinned at him.

“Behind of course,” I said, being as ladylike as I could.

“Katie, are you trying to seduce me?” Dad asked, and we both laughed.

“Maybe just a bit,” I said, with a smile. Dad then motioned for me to turn my back to him.

“Oh, hold on a sec,” I insisted, as I then took hold of my gag. I folded the sock in on itself, and then popped it into my mouth.

“Is that one of the gags you told me about that Linda invented?” Dad asked me.

"Mmm hmm," I said, with a nod. With the front of the band over my mouth, I then pulled the back of the band behind my head, and let it snap in place. With my gag in place, I slipped my hair out from under it as usual.

Now that that was done, I pointed my finger at the cuffs, and turned my back to Dad. I felt a rush of excitement as he took hold of my hands, and pulled them together behind my back. I then felt both cuffs wrapping around each wrist. They were perfect. They held tight, were very soft, and I could remove them when I wanted to.

“There you go my little prisoner,” Dad teased. I giggled a bit at his statement. “You won't try to get away from me will you?” He then asked.

“Nnpp, llh bh yyrr prrvnrr ffrrvvrr,” I said through my gag.

“That thing works very well,” Dad then complimented. This made me laugh again.

“Mm glld yyh llkk ht,” I said. Dad put has arm around my shoulder while I just leaned back against him, and we enjoyed our movie.

That's how my birthday went everybody. I forgot about trying to figure out how to put the cuffs on myself, and just stayed bound and gagged through the whole movie. I have another great tale for you all covering the next weekend. A little event we call...Project C.

Looks like i missed a few more parts than I thought. Whoops.

As usual, i love reading your work. Very satisfied with how this series is turning out. Probably said this already, but I love the visual aids. Very helpful for me personally.

Of course, I eagerly await this "Project C," whatever it is. Very much looking forward to your next tale.
