Highway Patrol Speed Trap

Postby drawscore » Sat Oct 11, 2014 9:49 pm

The Highway Patrol became concerned about a stretch of Interstate Highway, where motorists regularly exceeded the posted speed limit by 20 mph or more, so the captain directed they set up a "speed trap."

On the day of the operation, the troopers were amazed that all the motorists were at or below the posted limit. They couldn't figure out why driver behavior had so radically changed, so quickly.

The sergeant decided to drive the stretch of highway in an unmarked car, and about a mile before the operation, he saw a 13 year old boy with a sign, that read "Speed Trap Ahead. Slow Down,"

He drove on to the next exit, where the first boy's 11 year old brother was standing with a bucket full of money, and another sign that read "Tips."

Source? Or is this merely an amusing but fictional anecdote?

I agree it's amusing. It's the truthfulness of the story that I question; especially as DS has nowhere indicated that it actually IS true.

Sounds like a big fat denial of the story's veracity to me.
I figured it sounded much more like a joke than something that actually happened.
If there was a point to it, I may have missed it.

I don't know if it's true or not. I just thought it was funny. I also heard it where the two boys were the highway patrol captain's son, and his best friend.

Knowing the activities of some preacher sons, that helps the story ring a bit truer! In any event, who cares? it was great for a laugh!

They're required in my state too... at least on the Interstate, but not on regular roads.

In some places it *is* against the law to warn people of speed traps, just as in some places it's actually illegal to fill expired parking meters to prevent people from getting parking tickets. Each varies from state to state and maybe even city to city and town to town in the case of the parking meters.

if you go to france it's illegal to have a sat nav/gps with speed camera warnings. idk how they'd enforce that though.

also if they aren't warning you about speed traps it proves they just want your money and don't care about your safety.
