Although it wasn’t the first TUG we ever played, it was one of our early games. We are NOT trying to frighten people away from TUGs – they are safer than many other sports! The aim of this story is to emphasise the need from commonsense and not to be afraid to say if something is wrong!
On a very warm and sunny Saturday afternoon in July, Paul was sat in a lounger in the conservatory watching television.
Paul wore a loose-fitting red tee-shirt which was not tucked into black shorts, and red-trimmed black leather trainers.
Lisa entered the conservatory, carrying a tray with two large glasses of coke. She set the tray down on the coffee table, and sat in the lounger to Paul’s right.
Lisa was wearing a loose-fitting bright white tee-shirt, which was not tucked into skin-tight faded blue jeans-style cropped shorts with frayed edges, and Dunlop “Blue Flash†white plimsolls.
“Swimming starts in just over five minutes!†Lisa announced. “Fancy being tied to watch it?â€
“You bet!†Paul replied eagerly, putting his glass back on the coffee table after taking a large drink.
“Fetch your stuff!†Lisa instructed.
Paul eagerly got up and went into the house and up to his bedroom. He returned a few moments later carrying four lengths of rope, which he dropped on the coffee table.
Putting her glass on the table, Lisa got up and walked round to her brother. Picking a rope up, she knelt down on the floor and proceeded to tie Paul’s left ankle very tightly to the leg of the lounger. Picking up another rope, she then tied her brother’s right leg equally tightly to the right leg of the lounger.
“That ok?†Lisa asked, smiling at her brother as she stood up and picked a third rope up off the coffee table.
“Great!†Paul replied.
Paul laid his arms flat on the solid wood arms of the lounger. Lisa tied Paul’s left wrists tightly to the lounger arm, and then tight his right wrist to the right arm of the lounger with the last rope.
“Comfy?†Lisa teased, walking back round to her lounger and sitting back down.
“Fine!†Paul replied.
“Say when you want out!†Lisa exclaimed, picking up her glass.
Being keen swimmers themselves, Lisa and Paul enjoy watching swimming on television. They soon became soon engrossed in the sport that Lisa forgot her brother was tied up!
Just over an hour into the programme, Lisa caught sight of Paul wincing as she put her empty glass on the coffee table.
“Are you OK?†Lisa asked, concerned.
“I’m fine!†Paul replied dismissively.
The programme lasted for another forty-five minutes, and they watched it intently.
“Time to release you?†Lisa asked when the programme finished.
“Yes please!†Paul replied gratefully.
Lisa got up and walked round to her brother.
“PAUL!†Lisa exclaimed horrified, as she released her brother revealing very deep red marks on his wrists and ankles. “I’m SO SORRY. You should have told me the ropes were too tight and hurting you!â€
Paul just shrugged as Lisa took him up to the bathroom to tend to his wounds.
Although Paul was only tied for a relatively short time, I had UNINTENTIONALLY tied the ropes too tight. Being a boy, his bravado and male ego wouldn’t let him tell me the ropes were hurting him. TUGs are safe and risk-free as long as commonsense is shown by BOTH parties, and the captive tells the captor if the restraints are too tight or hurting in any other way!
