A dreary night

It was a dark and dreary night. They had gathered in a house on the outskirts of town; two boys and two girls, all in their mid to late teens.
None of them had previously met, but quite by coincidence, they had dressed alike. The boys wore sneakers, jeans and red and black chequered shirts, and the girls wore plain, floor-length, long-sleeved denim dresses. The girls’ hairstyles were similar, too. Both had their straw-coloured, waist-long and fringe-less hair in a ponytail. The boys had their brown hair combed straight back, with lots of hairspray in it.
They had come because of a letter, written by an unknown person. It was the kind of letter, which would have gone straight in the bin, except for one thing; it promised a great reward if they came and stayed for one night.

As soon as they had entered, they found a huge pile of ropes and gagging materials lying on a table in the middle of the largest room. A note simply said: “Use it well” and was signed with a single X. It was written using letters cut out from magazines.
“I wonder, what he means by ’Use them well?” one of the boy’s thoughtfully said.
“That is kind of obvious, isn’t it?” one of the girl’s replied. “There is enough rope here, to take two of us hostages or prisoners.” She didn’t see it, but when she mentioned “hostages” and “prisoners”, the boys looked at each other and smiled devilishly at one another. They might not have known each other for very long, but, boys being boys, they sure thought alike.

They left the pile of ropes and cuffs and went into the kitchen to eat a ready-made meal, left for them in the oven. When they had finished eating, they all went back to the pile, as if hypnotized by it.
“I think I’ve figured out what he meant by the letter. Whoever wrote it wants us to have a getting-free-the-quickest competition; boys against girls, or something. The losers stay tied up, for the rest of the day. How about we pair up; us boys against you girls? I’ll even be the perfect gentleman, and let you tie us up first. What do you say? Hands up, if you agree.” the first boy said. The boys’ hands were up in the air within a micro-second of each other, shortly followed by the girls.

They got two chairs from the kitchen and put them facing each other, and the boys, Fred and Andy, otherwise known as Shaggy, because of his appearance, sat down. The girls, Wilma and Daphne (called Buffy by her friends, because of the colour of her hair), went behind them and started tying their hands together, palms facing each other. As soon as the boy’s chests, waists, knees and ankles were tied to the chairs, Buffy, who was holding a stopwatch in her hand, said: O.K. you two. When I say the word ‘Go’, you start trying to get free. The clock stops, when both of you are free. Ready?” she paused for a minute or two, savouring the sight of two boys tied to chairs. Then she yelled: “GO!”
The girls put their heads together, like girls their age do, and Buffy whispered: “I don’t think they’re going to get free in a hurry, do you? Fred won’t, anyway. I tried to make pretty damn sure I tied the knots well out of the way of his fingers.”
“I tried to do the same with Shaggy!” Wilma whispered back. They looked at each other, and started giggling so much they soon were quite out of breath, and oblivious of the world around them. So they had quite a surprise, when the boys rose in unison from the chairs, half an hour later.
Fred grabbed Wilma’s elbow, and Shaggy grabbed Buffy’s, and put them, not too mildly, in the chairs. The girls’ hands were swiftly tied behind the backs of the chairs, as were their chests and waists. The boys tied Wilma’s legs to Buffy’s, below the knees, and told them to try to get free faster than they had. Buffy succeeded in doing that, just before the deadline, but as Wilma wasn’t anywhere near getting free, she had to be retied, and stay tied to the chair all day, not counting the bathroom-brakes. Because they talked, and complained so much, the boys soon gagged them, too.

They never could find out, who had asked them to come to the house, but they stayed friends and kept on tying each other up, on a regular basis.

Was there a large paw print on the bottom of the letter?

Ooops! Sorry for the mix-up! It's Daphne who's called Buffy. Thanks for bringing it to my attention! I've made some changes in the text, so now everyone goes by their right (nick)names. I hope :worried:
