An odd combination but okay. I teach part time at a local community college teaching physics/chemistry. What's up?

I teach physics to a tutorial group of a dozen first-year uni students, as part of my postgraduate work.
If this is leading to “Have you ever been tied up by...” the answer is “No.” :o)

oooo good thinking!

The real question is: Have I ever wanted to tie up one of my students?

*sigh*.... if only.

For me, it's the other way round.
But I am not sure sure which would be the faster career ender.

Hmm, you should experiment and find out!

There is one cutie in my class this semester... I'd do things to her. She can do things to me. We can do things together. Damn forbidden fruit.

The first tute group I taught (last year) was an all-male class. I can vaguely recall a dream I had at the time in which one of them hog-tied me on the desk while the others sat quietly observing and taking notes. But I think the dream was more about my insecurity as a novice instructor than my subconscious desires... at least that’s what I tell myself (and my boyfriend). It may also have had something to do with the fact that the topic I was teaching was... wait for it... string theory.

I've taught Sunday school on occasion.

While I've never had any inclination to tie up a student, there are several
I devoutly wished I could have gagged. :gag:

Hmm I have been a Sunday School class president and I have created many rp teacher characters. Does that count here at all?

These are the types of thoughts that if you have them you squash immediately because nothing good comes out of letting them linger.

I'm a trainee teacher in a primary school (that's elementary school or first school for anyone not from the UK). I'm teaching kids age 4 and 5 at the moment, so I definitely haven't had any thoughts about wanting to tie them up! Though when they're playing imaginary games together outside, I've quite often heard them say things like, "You're tied up now so you have to stay there!" xD

Though to be honest, even if I were teaching older kids, I don't think I would. I agree with Kyle here - those kind of thoughts really should be gotten rid of. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with having them or briefly imagining it because there is nothing you can do to stop that. However, if you are someone in a position of authority (as teachers and doctors are) then it is a big part of your job to ensure you are not abusing that authority. If you find yourself consciously entertaining those kind of thoughts about a student or patient, it's highly inappropriate. . .

I have never met a teacher who has not, at some stage, said something like “I’d like to murder those kids.”
I have never met a doctor who did not, at some stage, speak wistfully about administering deadly poison to an obstreperous patient.
Thoughts and words do not equal deeds.

Exactly. I've wanted to strangle little kids because they wouldn't shut the hell up in a restaurant. That's a horrible thing to DO, but there's no chance in hell I'd ever actually do it.....

with witnesses around at least....

muahahahaha.

That's true - hence why I said that the occasional thought that might pop into your head is completely acceptable. There is literally nothing you can do to stop that - it's how the mind works and it's completely innocent.

What I was saying I had a problem with is people consciously entertaining those kind of thoughts. There are a couple of things that I've read on this thread that suggest that some people aren't just having small, random, innocent thoughts like, "I'd like to murder that kid" or "Damn, my student would look good tied up" or daydreaming about it without realising. It seems as though people are ACTIVELY thinking about it - and that's what I have a problem with. Even if you aren't going to act on those thoughts directly, they are still entirely inappropriate and unprofessional. If you're in a position of authority over someone, especially kids, then it's your job to protect them - and in my head, that definitely rules out deliberately fantasising over them. . .

Without trying to be rude or catty, you do realize that there is no such place as "Stanfords" and it's not called "lawyer school", right? I am trying very hard to give you the benefit of the doubt, but I am having a hard time here. Perhaps if you didn't write so much, there would be less confusion.

Ha! I just joined in June, Shane. I don't mind the numerous posts, it's just the obvious fibs that go with them that bother me. I understand that many on here tell fibs to protect their identity or whatever, but blatant, outright statements that everyone knows are false bother me. It's just the way I was brought up. It's a character flaw on my part I am sure.

It's the fact that he's trying to make himself look good. Of course, I would hope everyone realizes people who are accepted at Stanford don't talk like 14 year olds texting to their bffs.
