OK, this means war! (Voting Now enabled!)

Postby xtc » Wed Jan 20, 2016 4:29 pm

J**** T****** (I can't bring myself to use the full name!) has stated that, and I can hardly bring myself to type it, dogs are better than cats.
This is a serious matter that requires resolution by the fine body of people who are members here. I am sure they will come up with the correct decision (Not that I am at all biased!)
Having hired a firm renowned for producing unbiased opinion polls, I invite members of the board to opt for either:
1) Cats (those independent minded, furry bundles of joy who pay rent in the form of sharing their catches with us even if they aren't always dead when they are placed proudly in the middle of the living room floor) are better than dogs.
or:
2) Dogs (those slobbering, sycophantic wastes of space who shag your leg, piss on your shoes and are too stupid to know the difference between a stick and something edible - they also fart) are better than cats.

Dogs are the most awesome, adorable, loving, loyal and unbiased creatures that ever lived, and my dog just happens to be the most awesome, adorable etc. etc. dog of all.

Cats are cute for a while but I find they're pretty selfish, unlike dogs who always wanna play and be with you. I dunno bout you guys but I've never heard the expression "cats are man's best friend".

Dogs. Full stop.

I spent my childhood with two Jack Russels and I loved them both, the female of which curled up with me and treated me as if I was her own. Great animals dogs are. I've had cats but aside from playing with laser pointers they kept to themselves most days though I was happy when they came over and let me pet them.

I love both but dogs barely etch out due to the personal comfort they offer.

I love animals of all kinds, but I would have to give the edge to dogs.

I love cats as well, but I must say two words about them: toxoplasma gondii.

Dogs are the most adorable, loyal, grateful, emphatic, awesome pets one can have so I'll have to go with them... I like cats too but they are pretty selfish and a few months ago I found that one of the most annoying things in the world was to be in the same room with a cat in heat...

Oh and my dog liked to hunt pigeons and share them with me so yeah...cats aren't the only ones to do that!

Re: OK, this means war!

Postby Driverman » Wed Jan 20, 2016 11:46 pm

I have one of each. I love them both. But my cat is more like a pet that I love, while my dog is like a child that I love, and there is a stark difference. So I vote for dogs.

Dogs only love you so long as you feed them and play with you.

Cats don't really care and don't hide it from you, but they are also more sensitive to your emotions.

Hence cats win

It seems the consensus is toward dogs. However, that does not cancel out the fact that cats have surpassed dogs as the most popular pet in the US. (The poll is a few years old, and dogs may have reclaimed the top spot.)

I have a cat as a house guest. She came with the house when I moved in. I tolerate her; she tolerates me, and we get along. She does amaze me at times. I never knew a cat could jump five feet straight up until I accidentally discharged a jolt of static electricity into the tip of her tail.

Actually they already have and they just let us THINK we're in charge! The dogs lead a secret resistance against the Catanese Empire.

And cats are for people who apparently don't have any desire to love or be loved, doomed to spend eternity in a self-contained prison of loneliness with an animal that only gives them attention when its hungry...

That came out much more melodramatic than I intended :P

No; dogs are simply for people who enjoy the company of a non-human who enjoys being with them wherever they go.
I like cats too; they're cute and cuddly and i like to pet them... but i like that about dogs too and dogs make better company.
And I'm not allergic to dogs either.

Cats, of course!

Just a few of the ~15.000 reasons:

- Dogs are noisy. Everyone who lives within 1,000 feet of a dog will agree.
(All right, my cat can be rather noisy too when she states that her supper dish needs to be refilled.)
- Nobody ever trodded into cat shit.
- It is a major task to convince a dog that your living room carpet is not a dog toilet.
Whenever a cat moved into my house, I showed him or her the cat toilet ONCE and he or she never forgot.
- a cat's fur feels better when you stroke it than any dog's.
- cats cannot be trained to be a weapon.
- A dog has an owner. A cat has staff.

etc. etc.

Dogs to me is more lovable, more likely to jump into a swimming pool to play with you, once my dog waited for me to come home by sitting at my house front door and he jumped at me when I opened the door and wagged his tail.
You will have to subdue me to restrain me. I been a bad boy so make sure you torture me too with anything but pain.

Exactly this is the reason why I would prefer a cat over a dog. Cats (or at least the cats I know) would never compromise their dignity by jumping at people. And I'd rather not be covered in dog's hair, thank you!
