Kelsey taps her foot impatiently for her assistant to bring the car around. Normally composed and at home at work, she was in a rush to get home. The tall, slender blonde looks at her watch, hoping that making the managerial decision to close the office a few hours early for the weekend in order to beat traffic and also score some extra points with her employees. She looked around the basement garage, Straightening her short skirt and plays with the button on her blazer. her fidgeting out of character for her otherwise calm and collected demeanor. She hears the low exhaust note approaching and moments later her assist pulls around the corner, coming to a stop in front of Kelsey. Martian jumps out of the car and quickly and opens the door for his boss to get in the car. The skinny 20 year old worked hard to impress Kelsey, homing that his internship as her assistant would pay off.
"Sorry I'm a bit late Ms. Stratton. I wasn't expecting you to close early," Martian apologizes
"I wanted to beat the traffic," Kelsey boys her head getting into into the car. She crosses her legs in the back seat, stacking her hands over top of her knee as Martin hurries back around to the drivers seat. He gets in and puts the car in gear, pulling away from the curb.
"Try taking the back roads, you'll miss a lot of the lights through downtown," Martian looks back at Kelsey, backseat driving is usually not something she does. The two navigate to the highway, heading out of the city with the occasional directional commands of Kelsey.
"You seem to be in a hurry Ms. Stratton," Martian remarks, looking up at the rear view mirror.
"My sister is coming into town this evening. I haven't seen her since I became office manager. We have so much to catch up on," Kelsey looks up at Martian's freckled face in the mirror. Her green eyes meet his, flashing with excitement behind rectangular glasses. He turns his boyishly handsome face back to the road.
"That's pretty cool. Does she do the same thing as you?"
"No, we may be twins, but in everything but looks we couldn't be more different. She's more of a...free spirit if you will. Last time I saw her she was a field reporter traveling with a band on tour, although she was really more of a groupie," Kelsey watches as they pass other cars on the road.
"Weird. It would hard to imagine you following a band around. I mean, someone that looks like you, not actually you" Martian fumbles over himself.
"I got what you meant Martian"
Martian takes the exit and drives through the town, eventually pulling into Kelsey's driveway. He looks up, seeing the front door open.
"Oh No! Someone broke in! I'll call the cops Ms. Stratton," Martian reaches for his pocket but is stopped by Kelsey's hand on his arm.
"No, that would be Kayla. Looks like she beat us here. Don't worry, I'll be fine. I won't be needing you for the rest of the day," She reassured him. Martian nods and gets out of the car, opening Kelsey and giving a slight bow. She gets out and Martian gets back in the car. He drives off as she goes through the open front door. She walks through her house, following the trail of bags lining her hallway into the kitchen. As she approaches, the sound of music playing increases. She rounds the corner to find hurricane Kayla. Food wrappings all over the counter top, the fridge door ajar, the sink half full of dirty dishes. In the adjoining living room sits the cause of the mess. Half laying on the couch, sneakered feet sitting on the coffee table. Eating a plate full of pizza roles she watches a netflix documentary on music, not even noticing her sister coming in.
"You know when people say make yourself at home, they dont really mean it, right?" Kelsey asks, looking around her trashed kitchen. Kayla turns around, mouth still full of pizza roll. She looks her sister up and down, taking in her black blazer and skirt, heels, and tight bun.
"Well you look fancy," She comments. She stands and walks over to her twin. Unlike her tidy sister, Kayla looked like she belonged back stage in skinny jeans and a flannel, her hair uncombed and everywhere. The sisters hug sharing happy to see you.
"I have so much to tell you, and I'm sure you have plenty to share as well," Kelsey smiled.
"Oh yes, we definitely need to catch up. I have just the thing," Kayla goes into the hallway and rifles through her bags, "go sit, its a surprise."
Kelsey goes and sits on her couch, brushing off pizza roll crumbs and other snack residue from the cushions. Kayla comes back carrying 2 wine glasses, handing one to her sister.
"So you first" says Kayla, flopping onto the couch without spilling her wine. Kelsey fills her in on the happenings that have been going on, like how at 25 she was already the lead office manager, the youngest person to achieve a position at such a young age in the company. She goes on and on, almost all of it about work.
"Wow, so much about work, so little about boys." Kayla finally cuts her sister off.
"Well, I haven't really had time for any kind of relationship, I've been so busy."
"I can tell" Kayla laughs.
"What about you? How did the band reporting go?" Kelsey reddens at the critique and changes the subject.
"Well it was good for a while. A lot of crazy parties. Then one of the members OD'ed and they kinda broke up. Not long after that the magazine went under and I've been kinda couch surfing for the last few months. That wine was actually a goodbye gift"
"It sure is strong" Kelsey observed, realizing she was kind of getting light headed after only a few sips. It tasted great, so she decided to take a bigger sip. Kayla watched her sister drink.
"I like it that way. It helps people unwind. You sound like you have it pretty good. A new house, assistant, heck a bigger salary than Mom and Dad combined. Ya did well Kels." She watched as her sister finished the glass
"Yea...I-I did, didn't I. I did pretty darn good" Kelsey's head was buzzing, she began slurring her words. She felt weird, not like drunk weird, but more of a loose body and mind feeling.
"It will be kind of a shame taking over, but I think you'll learn to like your new line of work" Kayla grins evilly as her sister's consciousness begins to fade.
"W-what? What are you...what is happening?"
"Shhh, Go to sleep Kels. You'll find out soon enough." Kayla smiles as her sister drifts off, slumping over on the couch. "Any chances are you wont be happy about it."
