Re: Best type of rope?

Well, taking into account your specification I say go for cotton ropes. Diameter 6-8mm, depending on the stature of the victim.
Additional plus: if it gets filthy, put it in the washer.

I agree with FesselFan, cotton ropes sound like just what you want.

I think nylon is best so soft comfortable and does not injure skin as much

I'd go with quarter inch braided cotton clothesline. It's common, does the job, and is available almost everywhere.

But then, a lot of it depends on who you are using it on, and under what circumstances. Keep in mind. that the smaller the diameter, the tighter the binding or knot. Smaller diameter products include rawhide boot laces, usually six feet long, and sash cord, which can be salvaged from old Venetian blinds. Both are about 1/8" in diameter. I wouldn't go any smaller than that, although there have been tales of people tied with monofilament fishing line, and heavy duty thread, which can be as small as 1/64" in diameter.

But for the purposes promoted here, I recommend 1/4" braided cotton. It comes in 50 or 100 foot lengths, and is easily cut down to desired lengths. (6-8 feet for the hands; 12-15 feet for the ankles, and 15-18 feet for the arms and legs)

Also keep in mind, that, believe it or not, it is easier to escape from being tied with 20 feet of rope around the wrists, than it is from 10 feet. The theory is that the more rope used, the greater the chance for slack, and the more slack, the easier the escape.

Have to agree with the most recommended: cotton. Comfortable and resistant to slippage. Available in various width and colours, what more can one ask for?
