UK Tuition Fees increases and protests

Postby Boundgal08 » Sun Dec 05, 2010 8:09 am

Oh yes, the infamous topic of the tuition fees in Britain, I am currently a university student, so probably will not effect me at all! But it is becoming ridiculous, the whole of the UK government is a complete shambles, Nick Clegg has gone against his vows to scrap them let alone increase then to £9,000 a year. Now they are posing new plans for it....... its driving me mad. but then again it will probably come true, and they will all vote for it, and then of course people who are younger than me, will be scared off from going to university.... because of how much debt they will be in after they have completed their studies!

But it is wrong since the prince seems like he is in his sixty's! attacking old people is the lowest of low :x

Being anti royal is ''allright'' but attacking them is just wrong or just downright sick

What was wrong is that ANY innocent bystander was injured. The fact that it was a "Royal" is irrelevant.
The police should have taken more care over Dumbo's security but I don't believe that it was legitimate protesters that committed the actions, probably hangers on or anarchists.

I must say that I support the legitimate protests. As the son in a "one parent family" in the fifties when the likes of my mother were generally considered as "fallen women" and a slum dweller ( no bath, no power, damp, outside loo, etc) I would not have been able to enjoy higher education without the assistance of a grant.

I have since "repayed" that grant by educating young people (I'm a maths teacher) and giving as much back to the community as possible through my involvement with an international young people's scheme.

If I was still mucking out pig bins or cutting carpets up for pattern books for the minimum wage, I don't think I would have contributed as much.

Please do not confuse legitimate protest against regressive, elitist measures with anarchist actions.

By the way, how is the young man who got clubbed on the head by a riot poilcemen?

It matters for the police. As a symbol of the nation an attack against a royal will give you a MUCH higher punishment then an attack on a normal person and the fuss about it is so much higher

I understand the students are angry but they took the wrong scapegoat that guys has probably nothing to do with the whole thing since royals have little power over stuff like this.

Its also wasn't the smartest thing to do because the 99% of protesters that didn't take part in this will have lost a lot of symphaty

Not as much as incompetence will have cost the police.
