Hell's teeth - I still remember as a student seeing him and Ade Edmondson, French and Saunders, and Hale and Pace at a hall event. He was only five years older than me as well.

He's a year or two younger than me. :(
What did he die of? I couldn't find any real text in this article; just his picture and a brief mention of his death.

It literally was announced a few minutes ago. Funny thing is, because BBC Two is forty years old, they've been showing things like Bottom, The Young Ones and Blackadder - all shows he appeared in.

Still no mention of cause of death, but judging by the mentions of that bike accident and the slapstick routine, he probably died of a brain aneurysm or a stroke; just as (I believe) both Curly and Larry from the Three Stooges did. Sounds like he got enough blows to the head to cause one eventually.

Its sad when someone dies at a young age, it makes you realise how precious life is.

As for Rik Mayall, he was a comedy legend imo, very funny, maniacal sense of humour.
