A surprise self tie

I suspect it's not all too unheard of to be tied up by surprise, but in this case I tied myself up by surprise.

I was alone for the evening and wanted to experiment with tying myself up. Mind you, I've never been able to tie my hands together behind my back and not escape. so I looked at this as just some fooling around. I was wearing a plain white t-shirt and I tied a thin peice of cotton rope around my bare left wrist, then tied a slip knot immediately adjacent to it. I pulled some rope through to form a second loop, then took the end of the rope and tied it loosely around a nail in a rafter over my head so I would have something to pull on and pull the rope around my wrist tight. I then put my already tied hand behind my back and put my right hand through the other loop behind my back. At first the loop wouldn't tighten but I finally managed to tighten it and it quickly was quite firm around my right wrist.

I enjoyed the helpless feeling of having my hands tied together behind my back, but pretty well knew I could pull the slip knot loose at any time. After a couple minutes, I decided it was time to get out, but I found the wrist with the slip knot was tied pretty tightly and the knot had gotten fairly tight. I pulled at it but it wouldn't budge. If I moved the wrong way, I would pull on the rope and it would tighten even more. So, there I was with my hands tied behind my back and tied to a nail in the rafters.

The slip knot had been pulled at enough that it would have been difficult to untie if my hands weren't tied together. The loops around each wrist were fairly tight and since each wrist was tied individually, the effect was like being handcuffed. I was completely helpless. I struggled in vain to free my right wrist (the left one was even tighter). I managed to loosen the right wrist slightly and felt I might be able to pull my right hand free if I worked it. I struggled and struggled in vain but was unable to loosen the rope enough to pull my hand free. I panicked a little as I began to realize my predicament.

I finally saw a chair within reach of my foot. I pulled it over to where I stood with my foot, then positioned it under where the rope was looped over the nail. The nail was angled upward so the rope would not easily slip off it. I stepped up on the chair and was only able to get within about a foot of the nail with my head. There was no way I could get my hands anywhere near the nail. So, I worked at moving the rope around with my head, but it wouldn't move much. I must have been quite a sight standing on that chair with my hands tied behind me. I continued to nudge at the rope and finally looked up and saw it had move out near the head of the nail. A little more nudging and it fell off.

I got down off the chair, freed from the rafters, but still with my hands tightly tied. The struggling had caused the rope to cut into my wrists some. I walked toward the garage and got a pair of pruners. I tried to cut at the rope but couldn't see what I was doing, so I walked over to a mirror and was able to see my hands and the ropes. There was some reddness where the ropes bound my wrists, but there was a little slack where I was able to slide in the pruners and cut myself free.

There had been quite an adrenaline rush with this one. I had never tied myself up so effectively, and I really doubted I would get away. If I hadn't, I would have been there for hours. Looking back, it is exciting that it happened but I think I'll not loop the rope around a rafter if I do it again. Wow!
