Mr. Edwards

They met in the centre of the village. They were all in their mid-teens and dressed alike, in bright red, one-piece ski-suits. Their hats, scarves, mittens and boots were also red, hence the nickname “the red gang”. It could just as easily have been “the E-gang”, seeing as they all had names beginning with the letter E; Elisabeth, Ellinor and Eric. There was a fourth “member”, Elias, but he was home.
“Remember; it’s his house, and his rules!” Eric said.
“I know. I just think it’s kind of creepy! And to think you are related to him!” Ellinor said, with a shudder.
“Oh, come on!” Elisabeth cheerfully said. “It’ll be fun. You’ll see!”
“Mmm, it probably will be,” Ellinor agreed, “but I can’t help it. It’s still freaking me out!”

While talking, they had arrived at their destination, an old cottage, owned by an elderly gentleman, known only as Mr. Edwards. He had agreed to talk to the kids, but only under certain circumstances. The girls would have to have their hands tied behind their backs, and would not be allowed to speak.
Eric knocked on the door, and while they waited for it to open, he put in the girls’ mouths, and wound long strips of fabric around their heads, that he had had in his pocket, tying them off behind their heads. He had just finished Elisabeth’s gag, when it opened, and Mr. Edwards let them in.

Inside, they took off their ski-suits, hats and scarves, revealing the colour-matching didn’t stop there. All three were wearing red, woolly tights. The girls were wearing red, knee-length skirts, and red jumpers with their school’s emblem on. Eric too had the same jumper, but he wore jeans. Ellinor and Elisabeth started taking their mittens off, but Mr. Edwards told them not to. He handed Eric two pieces of rope, and told him to tie the girls’ hands behind their backs. Eric did as he was told, and Mr. Edwards inspected his work.
“Good work, son,” he said. “Is this the first time, you tie someone up?”
Eric felt proud by the old man’s praise, and said it was. To tell you the truth, he had actually tied his sister up on a few occasions, but that didn’t count. Did it? He hoped not.

Mr. Edwards told them to go into the living-room, where the girls were seated in wooden chairs. Eric was once again handed some rope and was told to tie them around the girl’s waists and to the back of the chairs, and to tie their knees and ankles to the legs of the chairs.
When that was done to his satisfaction, Eric and he sat down in the sofa, and Mr. Edwards told them the reason for his somewhat strange request:
He had once had a fiancé, but he broke off their engagement, when he found out she stole from him, and had done so for a long time. After that, he said he never could trust a girl again. They were still welcome to visit, but weren’t allowed to wander around, and he never wanted to hear a girl’s voice again in his life, hence the gags, and the girls having to be tied to chairs.
Ellinor became quite sad, when she heard the old man’s story, but couldn’t help but wonder, why he hadn’t been able to shake the memory off, after all these years.

They stayed for another couple of hours, and when they left, Mr. Edwards told Eric to keep the girls gagged, until they were a long way away from the house. He actually went a step further, when he retied their hands behind their backs, and to their backs. Hen Elisabeth asked him why, he just said he liked the sight.
Whazzzz up!.
