9/11 how do you feel?

Postby OGgrl93 » Tue Dec 02, 2008 5:07 pm

I just want to know what people think and how they feel about the planes that were flown into the Twin Towers on September 9,2001. I live all the way in the middle of nowhere Nebraska and we don't really hear about what other people think, so please tell me how you feel.

wow that's... quite a question... that should get some rather colorful responses.

I'll tell you one thing, i've never woken up to anything more jarring then that in life (west coaster, it was still like 7am).

Here in the timezone it happened, it was only 8 or 9 am. When my teacher told us to shut up and wheeled in a TV a bunch of us took it as a chance to goof off. Then we saw footage of the planes hitting the towers, and half of us were just thinking "what the fuck was that? was that real?" while the other half didnt even notice because they were goofin off.

It really sunk in during second period when the principal came over the PA and told us that there was a terrorist strike against the towers and the US.

Being in Canada, it jarred mixed emotions from everyone. Made me think of terrorist actions toward our country, and how there are (supposedly) terrorist sleeper cells here in our home. Alot of Canadian hearts were/are with the victims and their families, and alot of Canadian eyes were on the news watching in horror and wondering what our future holds.

My thoughts...
at first it seemed unreal. Maybe because of the many action flics, where we see similar acts of violence. (With much more flash and gliz).
Once I realized it was real, I was shocked.
It was a tragedy, and sadly a predictable (and preventable) one. I won't go into deeper details here, as this is not a policy board ;)

Cheers

I had the same feeling! High schooler, gamer, love the action movies... took a second to realize that this was actually happening. You get so comfortable with the idea that violent acts only happen in video games and in the movies or TV and live in a society where almost all violence is personal, you are in disbelieve that something like this was actually happening.

Oh and it didn't help that i was awoken by my mother saying world war 3 just started and the first thing I saw on tv was new york covered in smoke. It scared the HELL out of me... it was early, my brain hadn't woken up, i was petrified for a few minutes until I put 2 and 2 together and realized that infact Russia had not just declared war on us and I wasn't looking at live feed of a nuclear bomb going off in New york.

I remember watching a documentary about it and you know who must have been petrified? The people in aircraft moving around or into the US that morning. For those who don't know, US and Canadian airspace was shut down and all flights were grounded/diverted. One guy on the documentary was saying that the pilot wasn't told what was going on and all that they knew was that the airspace was closed and they were being diverted to Canada. Leave it to someone to try to make sense of things on their own... someone started passing the rumor around the plane that there was a nuclear war occurring and thats why the airspace was closed. I dont know about you guys but I would have been terrified by that idea!!

One thing I've always wanted to know... who started that rumor about a car bomb going off at the Capitol building? Like i've always wanted to know where rumors like that start and who could start it and why! Either theres some very cruel people in the world (which there are, duh) or some people with some insane imaginations.

My block was devestated we lost alot of people we knew and sadly like most of the country we were all like we gotta get these damn terrorist back it wasn't even a question of what to do it was how to do it. Of course if we had thought we would have never spent this much time and money into the war that really has yeilded little results but idk I geuss thats just hot blooded americans for you I would know I lived in Queens for a while

I've been debating about posting this for a while. You probably won't even beleive me. I was 11, on a 6th grade feild trip in the city when it happened. We were 3 blocks away when the frist plane hit. First reaction was "HOLY S**T, what just happened!?" We thought it was an accident, but then the second plane hit. I've never cried so long or hard in my life as I did right then. It was so awful, but I couldn't look away. I can't even describe what I saw, just that it was the worst thing to ever have to witness. I heard people hitting the pavement from jumping. But I almost felt inhuman that night, when I found out we were on our way to the towers for a tour. The only thing I could think was "I'm so glad we weren't there." I felt it was wrong to think that way, and in a way, I never did get over that.

You shouldn't feel bad, thats perfectly normal to feel that way, you we're only in 6th grade. Someone that young shouldn't have to go through, ever no matter what it is. And i know, you want to look away but you just can't. I feel kinda guilty about not understanding when it happened, sure I was only in 2nd grade, but when I saw the replay on the T.V. I didn't know what to think, should i be sad, angry, upset, mournful, confused? thats what was going through my head. Sometimes when I get to really thinking about 9/11 I just start to cry like there's no end, but thats also because I'm really soft.

I was in a high school journalism class, and we were all working on the computers, looking at news stories. I remember one student said something weird was on cnn and soon all of us were watching live feed of the towers; the first plane had just hit. Our teacher then called the principle and informed him, the office had not heard yet. Soon after as were were trying to figure out what the hell was going on we watched live feed of the second plane hitting. That was my first period of the day, second period was spent discussing reactions and watching news to find out more information. I remember some male students talking about joining the army after high school...at this point we didn't know if we were at WW3 or not.

I didn't know anything until both planes had hit and the towers were already on the ground. So by that time it was almost certainly known to be a terrorist attack. I was in 11th grade then and most of my classes went on as normal throughout the day.

As for what I felt, since this is the actual topic here, it was kind of a strange shock, followed by feeling bad for the victims and the families of them, and then I wondered who did it.

I'm tired of the government covering up the fact that they purposely demolished the towers.

There is tons of evidence that the towers were leveled, one of it being that a fire 1) wouldn't cause the tower to fall straight down, it would titlt and 2) Other high rises have gone on fire for hours longer before they burnt to the ground.

As for how I felt...I was 13, and didn't know what was going on. Today I still feel very little.

How else do you explain a building falling down at free-fall speed straight down?

Yes al quida attacked us, but I think the government brought down the buildings.

I believe that there may be sufficient evidence to conclude that the World Trade Center buildings #1 (North Tower), #2 (South Tower), and #7 (the 47 story high-rise across Vessey St.) were destroyed not by jet impact and fires but by controlled demolition with explosives.

I know it would be wrong of me to compare the attacks on 7/7 to 9/11, but at least we had some idea of how you guys felt, I remember i was distrout becaused i feared that my dad was caught up in the attack of 7/7. He wasnt luckerly but if he went to work he would have been very very close.

I was on holiday when 7/7 happened, about 1200feet away from the bus. I wasn't hurt but it messed up my return plans by a week.

I don't know whether or not this makes me a bad person, but to be completely honest, I wasn't traumatized by the events of 9/11. I was eight years old on the day of the attack; I didn't even hear about it until the next day. I didn't live in New York, and nobody I even remotely knew was in any way harmed. Looking back on it, I realize the incredible implications of that attack; that the United States, which for decades had been seen as a stronghold, protected from outside attack, might not be a safe place any longer. At the time, however, any ideas of American invincibility hadn't been imprinted on my mind. I was too young to know that America had never seen an attack like this in it's history. So I took it in stride, and went on with my life. I hope you won't think less of me for it, but I think it would be a lie to say I've been truly jarred by 9/11.

I have many theories and ideas on the events that occurred on 9/11, I have also spent hours of research, not only on what happened, but the religion itself. The teachings that allow it. I even spent alot of time watching numorous eye opening documantaries on 9/11, and I must say it was all time well spent. Basicly, in my point of view religion just causes trouble, not trying to attempt to insult anyone, but it does, WWII was all about Jews... Millions and millions of people dies in WWII. Back on the topic of 9/11 though. Also, many people died, and many more injured. And what because of? America *barging* into foreign countries. In my eyes, that's no excuse. But according to Allah, we offended their religion... And that my friends. That gave them the right to kill a large number of innocent tourists and civilians.

AMEN!

Also, Ossama Bin Laden... Dead or alive?

^ Zanev I share your sentiments, 9/11 was funded by people working in our government, to provide an orgy of fear among the people, to blind us all from the harsh reality of resource and political control.

^tiedandtickled, although controversial, I agree to a certain degree with your statement. However, any arab agression was somewhat justified, the islamic world has been getting a raw deal for centuries, countries with the ability to "protect their interests (oil for example)" have been raping the middle east.
Religion only played the role of distinguishing "sides", but I do agree that any group which includes some but not all is a destructive part of reality. Too many try to gather everyone under arbitrary banners of faith, when we should have evolved enough to realize were all one from birth, and that no ceremony, god, or name will bring us all together.
