I was one of those precocious smart-ass kids who actually did the math to calculate how many houses Santa had to visit in one night and realized he had to visit hundreds every second to cover them all; even if you include only the ones with kids living in them. Also it occurred to me that our house had no fireplace but a Franlkin stove with a flue so narrow even a child could hardly squeeze through it let alone a big fat jolly old elf! I was only five when I figured this out, and undoubtedy was an insufferable brat that particular Christmas season.
