1979's "Over the Edge" is, in my view, the undisputed best movie about teens ever made. Despite the changes in fashion and music, most of the issues remain entirely, or rather actually are more relevant, then they were back then. Plus any movie with Cheap Trick's "Surrender" on it's soundtrack can't be all bad.
1983's "Bad Boys", featuring a young Sean Penn, is arguably among the best prison films alongside 1979's "Scum" from Britain, both about juvenile prisons. "Bad Boys" is more mainstream, with a better cast of characters though "Scum" is very strong in it's raw, documentary style of film making.
