Wikileaks

Postby Scottstud94 » Thu Dec 02, 2010 12:42 pm

As all of you know Wikileaks has not only unveiled hundreds of thousands of secret government documents around the world but is changing the world of foreign relations as we know it (I.E Saudi Arabia-U.S-Iran).

I find Wikileaks to be fascinating and believe the public deserves to know these truths the governments insist on keeping from us. I want to see some Area 51 documents leaked, thatd be interesting! What do you guys think?

They are interesting to read, but I do wonder if they might leak apocryphal information?

I like that you have an opinion to share about this. Respectfully however, I'm on the opposing side here. I'm a die hard liberal but I tend to respect the way and manner we gather intelligence. What bothers me about Wikileaks are two things... One, its practically dictated by one man who bribes his sources and decides what to leak without any concern for the consequences. And two, it opens the floodgates, if we accept this behavior, for others to follow suit... and disregard national security in pursuit of fame, profit or simply attention. I'd more respect an established source like a nationally known newspaper to lead a charge like this.

Nonetheless Scottstud, I like that you follow this topic and have an opinion...

Yes Assange is a criminal, hacker, and briber. But he's exposing all these thing the government has lied about. Grant it we assumed most, but things like the Saudis relations with Nuclear Iran, and some of the Kremlins secrets (Which can't be good). A U.S private got access to these documents so they obviously weren't quite well guarded as we'd like.

They are releasing them slowly so they must be running an agenda. Yes I find foreign relations quite interesting. Almost every major country is being uncovered.

Assange is arrogant, only doing this for his own good, and it's going to come back to bite him on the ass very soon. He's already made a lot of people mad and there's no telling how many laws he's broken. And from an American point of view, I can't really see he's revealed anything we didn't already know. We all knew the US was doing business with Saudi Arabia, for instance. It seems to be people in other countries who didn't know this stuff was going on and who are acting surprised about it.

I think its pointless

They knowingly endanger people's life's just so we can see some imformation we don't even need to know and will damage relations between countries

I applaude wikileaks there...
not that the information is something particullary surprising. Almost anyone at least a little bit politically interested had sorted such things out already.
In fact, for me it's contemplating to know that behind the veil of diplomacy these guys are just humans, with prejudices and prefabricated opinions.
The major point, though, is missed here and in most of the press: It just shows that data security *is* a vital matter.
Politicians almost worldwide demand that they get more insight into people's personal data. Like the US government demanding to get passenger data about inner europe flight passengers.
Well...now the data misuse has fired back on themselves. To be honest, this makes me laugh out loud.

Cheers

Who's prepared to admit they are stupid enough to believe that the charges would not have re-surfaced if the USA and others didn't want him badly?

Assange has turned himself into police. He will be tried and then sent to the USA when he is done with his sweedish trial (hopefully)

NOBODY should ever be extradited to the USA.
They are currently trying to extradite an autistic man who, in the nature of his condition, is obsessed with finding aliens. He managed to hack into the Pentagon's computers.
Surely they should be rewarding him for making them aware of the faults in their systems not trying to imprison him for an inhuman term for being autistic?

If you are comparing Assange to an autistic braniac, than please, enlighten me about their similar qualities and how they are both be treated the same. If pakistani police caught Osama bin Laden in pakistan, should he not be extradited as well? Assange is not autistic, he is just an Anarchistic. He would watch the world burn, with every one of us along with it if it meant that he got his fair pay and a good seat

I think this may be the best description I've read yet of Assange.

I am not comparing the two (even ignoring the freakish implication of your "Braniac" jibe).
I am saying that NO ONE should EVER be extradited to a country the whose penal system is almost medaeval in its barabrity!

If Bin Laden was, indeed, captued in Pakistan, he probably would be extradited. He is too high profile simply to suffer "exta ordinary rendition" and be spirited away off shore for indeffinite detention without trial wher he could be subject to torture.

PS is Assange hacked off about a British paper "leaking" info? If so, that's just the biter bit. He who lives by the sword. . .

He talked about it to an American News reporter via Video chat... He even showed the Paper... but when she asked if the Allegations where true Instead of answering Yes or No he acted like a child and cut the live feed....
