101 - 100 USES OF A RED SKATEBOARD

This story has been written for quite some time.
Until the builders finish in my house, I can't really continue anything extended.
I was just desperate to post something so here it is in the next post.

101 - 100 USES OF A RED SKATEBOARD

Part 1

The conversation had been going on for some time but here’s how it ended:

“Bet you he couldn’t.”

“Bet he could.”

“You’re on.”

“Shake.”

“When?”

“He’s always there early on Saturdays. Before anyone else is around. Then he uses the damned thing on his paper round.”

“Have you got everything you’ll need?”

“Oh yes! That kid’s going nowhere.”

“Sez you. Right. See you then.”

“Don’t forget: a fiver we said.”

“I won’t forget but I won’t be needing it. I’ll have yours to spend.”

“In your dreams.”

“Yeaaah. Ciao.”

“Cherio mate.”

And, with that, the two friends parted.

============================================================================================================================

James was a real dedicated skater boy. And he was good. He took that board with him everywhere: to breakfast, to school, to his piano lessons and probably to the toilet as well as far as I know. Sure enough, before the sparrows even started coughing that Saturday, he’d taken his pride and joy to the local skate-park to get a few tricks in before all the annoying little kids arrived and before he needed to get to old Landymore’s newsagent at about six forty-five. I told you he was dedicated.

What he didn’t know was that his little brother had been well paid to ring the old man and explain that James was unwell and ask if it would be alright for him to do his paper round instead. At such short notice, Landymore was grateful for the offer and didn’t ask questions.

“James?”

“Oh, hi, Leo. What brings you here? What the . . .?” James felt himself taken in a full nelson hold in such a surprising manner that he dropped his precious board.

“My mate here, you know, the one you can see, made a little bet with me.”

“Get off me, you . . .”

“Oh, do shut up and listen.”

With that, Leo grabbed the oversized beanie from James’s head and stuffed it into his open mouth, holding it in place by pushing his head back against his taller conspirator’s hands. “Now, as Ollie was saying: we’ve got this little bet. So just shut up and listen.”

“I’d do that if I were you.”

“Yes, it’d be a shame if your mum got to find out about your skipping school last Wednesday.”

“Or if she got to learn the truth about how that big burn-hole got into that sheet that was hanging on the washing line the day before last Fireworks Night. That’s better; just relax and listen.”

============================================================================================================================

Leo retrieved James’s skateboard which, by then, had made quite a reasonable escape attempt while James worked the far from clean beanie from between his teeth.

“No. Please boys, I’ve got to get to my paper round.”

“Got it covered.”

“But you’re going to have to pay your little brother really well if you want us to keep your secrets.

“Alright, what do you want?”

“My mate here says that you’re so welded to that bloody board he’s holding that you couldn’t get away from it inside an hour if he tied you to it. I think you could.”

“Oh fuck, no, what do you think I am?”

“How long have you got?”

“Come on Leo, get to the point, I’m getting tired of holding this kid still.”

“Sorry, Ollie. Well, it’s like this: you can cooperate and make this a fair bet or I wonder how long it will be before your mum allows you to see daylight outside of school hours.”

James understood that threat because there was only one mother more terrifying than Leo’s and that was his own. He saw separation from his precious skateboard extending so far into the future that he’d probably be married before she let him have it back. “I got no choice have I?”

101 - 100 USES OF A RED SKATEBOARD

Part 2

“I’m glad you understand. You see, this is worth a fiver to me.” Ollie released the shaggy-haired skater with the words, “Over to you, mate.”

“Aren’t you going to help?” asked the skinny blonde as he raked the hair out of his eyes.

“Why should I? I want him to be able to escape.” Ollie was the tallest of the three boys and had a round head with a ready smile and a rather military haircut. “And he can’t afford not to be cooperative. Can you, Jimmy boy? James’s answer is best not related here.

Leo sighed somewhat but he could see Ollie’s point as he opened the sports bag he had been carrying.

James hoped against hope that someone else would arrive to use the skate-park for the first time since he’d been getting up so early for his morning practices, but he knew there was very little chance of that happening so he had no choice but to cooperate with his captors.

James stood waiting for Leo to sort himself out. He was wearing a baggy grey band t-shirt over a black long-sleeved one, a pair of baggy brown cargo shorts reaching down well down past the centres of his calves, his skate shoes and that scruffy beanie, which he’d retrieved from the ground.

It took a few minutes for Leo to untangle his ropes and lay them out to his satisfaction. For such a scruffy individual, he was quite methodical when he needed to be. Once he was ready, he reminded Ollie that James had to be free of ALL the bindings inside an hour. They’d already agreed what would be allowed and what would not so there was no doubt about the conditions of the bet. Leo set to work.

“Here, hold on to this.” Leo pressed the board against James’s back with the trucks facing forwards and James realised that he had to hook his arms over it. “Hmm. It’s a bit wider than I thought.”

“I told you it wouldn’t be easy.”

“Alright, alright, hold your horses.” Leo shoved the board high up under James’s armpits occasioning the inevitable imprecations form the skater. “No, I’m not one of them; them’s useful. Or so I’m told.” Now hands forwards and hold it in place. James hooked his forearms under the board and reasserted his opinion of Leo’s anatomical resemblances. “Now, now, just hold tight.” As far as Leo was concerned, James could call him what he liked; he simply had no choice but to cooperate as he was bound to his precious skateboard.

============================================================================================================================================

Leo anchored the middle of a long rope to James’s left wrist by doubling it and forming a double loop by passing the bight back along the two strands of what was actually his big brother’s old top-rope that he’d cut to what he thought would be a suitable length and bound the cut with electrical tape after having melted the ends. Leo adjusted his prisoner’s arms until he considered that they were gripping the board as tightly as possible under the circumstances. He then wound the rope four and a half times between James’s wrists while Ollie threatened him about the perils of any failure to cooperate. Ollie was a fair-minded kid really.

As James tried to ensure that he wasn’t going to let the loops slip under the circumstances, Leo started wrapping the remainder of the rope around the loops, pulling them tighter with a predictable repeat of James’s opinion of not only Leo but Ollie as well. Leo had more than enough rope left to knot off through the original lark’s head knot. There were advantages to having skinny, nimble fingers but James wouldn’t have agreed. The edges of the deck were now digging fairly unpleasantly into James’s arms and armpits. It was a good job he’d worn that long-sleeved t-shirt.

That might have held James securely already but Leo was taking no chances. He took a shorter rope and loped it round James’s right upper arm, down in front of the deck round his forearm and returned it several times before cinching the loops and finishing off with a knot behind James’s upper arm. His left arm was soon similarly secured as Leo claimed that, if James had only had the decency to be as skinny (although he said, ”slim”) as he was, then his job would have been a lot easier. James chose to disagree.

Leo thought that, even if James managed to loosen to ropes, the trucks and wheels would stop him forcing the deck right the way through. James thought that, if he managed to loosen the ropes, he would be able to force the wheels between his arms and his back. We’ll see.

“Leo?”

“Yeah?”

“You think he’s making too much noise?”

“Wha’ d’you think?”

“You going to do something about it, then?”

“It’s not in our bet.”

“I don’t mind. Have this one on me.” Ollie reached down into Leo’s sports bag and threw a roll of gorilla tape to Leo.

“You are NOT going mmm nnn . . .” Leo stripped the woolly hat from James’s head and reinstated it where he had placed it previously. James clamped his jaws shut preventing Leo completing the task.

“Cooperate? Remember?”

“Ooo uuuiii uuu!”

“You going to ring his mum or shall I do it?”

“On it now.”

“Nggggh, Ngggh!”

“It’s OK mate, I think he’s changed his mind.” James opened wide and Leo removed the hat once more before rolling it into a more compact form. ”And once more, please.” Leo was beginning to sound unpleasantly like a dentist but he soon had most of the fabric located where he wanted it without making James gag too much. “Bite!” James did his best to do as he was told as Leo applied a generous amount of tape to hold the beanie in place. In spite of his generosity, the grey wool still piled out around the black tape.

“OK, over here.” Leo led James over to a half-pipe and told him to sit down and put one leg on each side of one of the upright supports

“Come on, that’s not in the bet. No tying him to anything except his skate-board.”

“Oh, bugger!”

“Good try!”

“Can I still tie his legs?”

“Sure, but not to anything else.” By now James’s fury was being overtaken by his desperation. What the hell would this skinny, blond bastard do to him next? He soon found out.

Leo took his victim and laid him quite gently on his belly. Both sets of wheels couldn’t be on the ground simultaneously and Leo threaded the bight in the centre of a fourth rope between the deck and James’s back, tying another lark’s head round the deck. He then tied an overhand knot in both the free ends of the rope and pulled it tight. James’s protest was not very comprehensible this time.

“Lift your feet and cross them.” James’s feet looked out of scale enclosed in the substantial skate shoes but Leo soon had his ankles bound in such a way the he couldn’t lower them again or uncross them. Leo then lifted him to his knees while debating with himself what he should do with the remaining rope. Eventually he decided to bring the ends forwards, under James’s crutch and tie one off to each of the trucks more with the intention to “make my construction look pretty” than to cause any more discomfort.

“Shall I blindfold him?”

“Nnnnn! Eeee! NNN!”

“Come on mate, that was just cruel.” Leo grinned. “You know we said that wasn’t allowed. He’s got to have some chance of seeing what he’s doing.”

“OK, then, synchronise watches.

“On the count of zero, go! Five, four, three, two, one, zero!” James started his frantic escape attempt.

My only regret is that James is wearing so much clothing. I'm not complaining, just saying.

This is pretty good. I would like a more detailed description. And what does "one of them" mean?

Thanks, Veracity. Sorry about the clothing but it IS sometimes winter here.

Mikeybound, James had obviously called Leo something that rhymes with punt and Leo was brushing it off in the traditional manner. Thanks for asking.

101 - 100 USES OF A RED SKATEBOARD

Part 3

Even with the inevitable riding up, James’s shorts still protected his knees from the tarmac as he shuffled clumsily round so that he could push the tail of the skateboard firmly against the structure of the nearby half pipe. He was especially determined to escape on several fronts: he didn’t want anyone to see him like that especially as he knew that Leo would grass him up if he was released early and because he was sure that Ollie would take his revenge on his helpless person if Leo won the bet. So he positioned his fibre-glass pride and joy against the supporting member and leaned heavily upon it.

To his satisfaction the board slipped between his arms and his back relatively easily – at first! As soon as the truck butted up to his side, James started to revise his original opinion of his chances of escaping. Yes, IF he could loosen the ropes, he MIGHT be able to slip the wheels far enough across his back to release his left arm – if it wasn’t for the ropes between his upper arm and his forearm. James’s frustrated groaning lost its effect when impeded by his favourite beanie and a generous application of gorilla tape.

He thought he’d have one more try and put as much of his weight against the metal post as possible, slipped off and crashed to the ground. The muffled cry of dismay was easily drowned out by the derisive laughter of the onlookers. That hurt!

James lay briefly on his side with his knees apart before collapsing onto his belly. Rolling over was almost impossible and, when he tried to straighten his legs, the ropes between his ankles and the trucks caused not a little alarm until he bent his knees once more. The sight of him repeatedly flexing his legs was the occasion of even more mirth for his tormentors.

When he stopped for breath, something which was in short supply in his condition, James noticed that, when the head of the board rested on the ground, it developed considerable leverage, pulling his right elbow away from his torso. Unfortunately, it also drove the rear wheels even more firmly into his side.

Leo and Ollie were more than satisfied with the entertainment and, after half an hour or so, Leo stated to get smug. Ollie “encouraged” their victim by confirming some of James’s worst fears of what would happen to him if he didn’t manage to escape. It was difficult to differentiate between James’s pleas, the grunts caused by his efforts and cries of frustration as he scrabbled round the ground like an oversized (and rather slow) whirligig beetle.

About forty-five minutes in and James’s constant flexing of his legs finally released the ends of the ropes form the trucks allowing him considerably more freedom. He could even stand up now so Leo started playing with his mobile phone while Ollie and he discussed what they might do if he made a break for freedom.

James tried levering both ends in turn against supporting members of the equipment to very little effect other than to increase the levels of pain to which he was being subjected. Finally the rope securing his right arm to the deck started to show some slack so James made a desperate last minute attempt to push the head end against the structure only to find that the front truck would still not pass between the rope and his arm.

“Times up! Come on, pay up!” A delighted Leo held out his hand. A rueful Ollie handed over the blue note and James looked form one to the other of the “sportsmen” and feared the worst.

===========================================================================================================================

“Now you can tie him to the half-pipe if you want to.”

“No. After you, I insist.” James yelled furiously – and totally ineffectively – into his gag as Ollie and Leo closed in. They lifted him to where Ollie indicated a very substantial vertical supporting beam with a horizontal spar attached and laid him face down on the ground.

Ollie raised his ankles, made some fine adjustments and lashed them to the vertical post above where the cross member joined it. James was now totally incapable of lowering his feet.

“OK, we’re going now. Time for breakfast. Someone ought to be along soon IF you don’t manage to escape.”

“Oh, and bring my bag and ropes to school on Monday, please.”

“Yea, don’t forget.” said Ollie, “or me and my friend here might have some difficulty keeping your secrets. Ciao”

Having taken just a few more pictures on his mobile, Leo followed his friend out of the skate park.

“Cheerio.”

Thank you. I appreciate the feedback for what doesn't seem to have been a particularly popular story.

Thanks also to Dann432432, PowerRanger and Mickeyboound.

I was hoping to get this story illustrated but no takers!

Great story! Seriously. I loved it. I want to go buy a skateboard so I can try this!

Is there going to be a continuation? Maybe a cute boy could find James and take advantage of the situation? Or maybe James could get revenge on his friends on Monday at school?

Really liked the story and your writing style!
