Acting

Ever been in a play where a scene involved a tie up part?
If so, who got tied up, was it you or someone else?
How did he/she/you react and was it great acting or poor acting
In my play in like the 11th grade, we did a scene in which a herorine was tied up and for a second, everything changed because the person was tied up in front of everyone and she did not seem happy with playing that role. But that of course may had been acting, but it was great. Too bad I was not involvec in the scene, however.
You will have to subdue me to restrain me. I been a bad boy so make sure you torture me too with anything but pain.

Been in a number of plays, but no TUGs in any of them alas. Saw one in high school I didn't take part in though - "Arsenic and Old Lace" - that has a tie-up and gagging in its second half. You can see the same scene (more or less) in the 1944 movie version with Cary Grant. IMO Cary's acting was only so-so; the school play actor I saw was funnier but of course it wasn't recorded. Bob Crane (Hogan of Hogan's Heroes) also did a TV version before he died which was funnier too, but I haven't seen that one since it was first broadcast in the late 60's; don't know if that version is available anywhere, but I doubt it.
Dare to be different... and make a difference.
To boldly go where no one in their right mind has gone before...

In high school i was a maid in play. at one point i was tied and gagged on a chair for integration. once the integration was done i was re-gagged and dragged off still tied to the chair to the back of the stage out of view. I was left there tell just before the end of the play when i was untied for the final act.
Let's use all the colors.
Dust 'em, Pix!
Yup! That tasted purple!

I saw for myself and later heard about to instances when things went wrong on stage. In one of them a character was tied to a (prop) tree and was to be taken to the sheriff while the captors were talking on the other side of the stage. Unfortunately, the ropes fell off. :mouthopen: It's kinda hard to believe someone who only had to step over a few coils of rope lying on their feet wouldn't high tail it out of there but they picked up the rope and held it at waist level to (try to) preserve the scene.

The one I saw was the crucifixion at the church my girlfriend attended when the arm of one of the theves came loose, he had to work to keep up his part of the scene.

If you ever have to tie another active to something, do it for real. OTOH, if someone's hands are tied behind their back and never shown to the audience, it's OK to just put the ends of the rope under their thumbs.

BTW, a faked tie up is part of the plot in the opera Carmen and her (new) boyfriend Don Jose gets into trouble for letting her get away.
