I'm thinking it's a general "if it has anything to do with the election talk about it" kinda thread.

So, it's election year, eh? Good time to ask: how do British elections work anyway? xD

Pretty simple not like the US. The country Is divided into many areas (constituencies) we have many parties and indipendants standing to be a member of parliarment (MP) for that constituency. Its a majority system so who ever has the most votes becomes MP for that area and gets a seat in the house of commons. Now which ever party has the most seats after the election comes into power. The leader of this party become prime minister.

hopefuly the conservatives win making david cameron our new leader.
Always looking for new TUG buddies :)

Ours is simpler (no areas), but yeah, I understand how it works.

Personally, I am impartial to the matter. Even though Great Britain is one of our closest allies, their doings overall cannot affect this world way too much (no offense to any brits out there) I just hope that no one bad is elected. But if some crazed person is elected, proclaims themselves dictator, and declares war on peace and happiness, than I am sure that the United States has enough nuclear payload (Even after our deal with russia) that can destroy europe several times over before the dictator can do anything like try to take over the "colonies" again. And on that high note, have a nice day :D !

Chatting bubbles are we! I do find it offensive when other countries chat crap about our country, needless to say, what we have done for them!
I hate people who big up their own country, especially the Americans, thinking they are superior... when you aren't!

Drives me nuts! We took no crap in having any say in your elections so don't have any in the UK's election!

Who said it did... no country rules the world, a country who does, has a thick government and thick people! No country is superior to another country, we are all equal of course unless you are from the 3rd world, then not so much.

No one bad is elected, I hope Labour win, because to be frank I cant see the Conservatives doing much... the BNP are a load of crap! The green party, if they were elected Id probably commit suicide!

Whatever happens, my main concern is to hope that they rid the country of financial problems (not completely) and to help other countries and to help the world push its way out of this 'recession' though we are out of it now!

Good opinions BG. However id like to see a change in power, give the other guys a chance. Theres been too many problems since labour came into power, crime gone up, unnessecory wars, immigration etc. Its not just david cameron, he has many experienced politicians behind him and i think he will make a fantastic pm!

also im curious to know how the election and british politics are portrayed in the US. Do they tend to support one party? In the uk during the US election it seemed our media preffered obama.

It was very clear you were (if you weren't it would certainly knock at least 40 IQ points off whatever anyone ever thought you had), but the joke wasn't that good to begin with, and it still conveys that tone BG talked about.

Well Joke or no Joke, I would not care for such jokes to be made up, pointless much! This isn't a topic to be made fun of... unless you have something appropriate to say.... don't post!

I will always take offence to anything, its how I am, I always will take offence to jokes, especially in topics of this nature!

Maybe you should add at the end its just a joke, because from where I was reading it, it didn't seem to be a joke in my books, you just seemed to throwing random crap towards us British... and believe me boy, if you want me to turn the tables, I could make an encyclopaedia of crap about America... believe me!

Cheers,
BG

No offence to any Americans on this board... it is of course a Joke, well the last sentence anyway!

There's an encyclopedia of crap to be made about any country. <-- Not a joke

Let's get back on topic: What do your two main parties represent, and which is less hostile towards Israel? :P

i'm definitely on the fence. DC makes himself out to be all sweetness and light, but you just know he'll be powerless to stop the same mistakes that GB would make if he stayed in power.

i don't believe that whoever is in power can make a massive difference to the individual

long as i still have my job, my girlfriend, my home and can still play football and go to the cinema once a week i'm happy

Here's the problem - the Labour party to my midn have thoroughyl discredited themselves in recent years, and I do not believe they can be trusted wth another term in charge.

However, I lived through the Thatcher years, as (a) a Scot, (b) a resident of the North-East of England in the Eighties, and (c) a liberal socialist, so I have very strong feelings about letting them back in charge - and Cameron is Thatcher Zero, to use a drink analogy.

So, simply put, I don't think either of them should be in charge, but because of our "first past the post" system it will be one of these two. I personally feel it will be a hugn parliament, with some horse trading to look forward to.

Its too big a swing needed for the Tories, I think a hung government is more and more likely.

I will be voting Labour, and as much as they have made an arse of it recently, they are still a much better option than the Tories. Words can't describe my dislike for Cameron.
