Boarding school memories?

Has anyone here every heard of any tie ups being used as initiation in boarding schools? An odd question I know lol. I was speaking to my friend the other day, who comes from a very posh background, and he was telling about a restraining method used on his school called the crucifix, were the shaft of a broom would be threaded through a persons sleeves and behind their back, forcing their arms out, whilst a second broom would be placed down their colour and through a trouser leg, forming a makeshift cross, and the person could then be hung on a hook (not sure if he meant by the horizontal broom or not). I was quite surprised at this, as I thought such shenanigans (and indeed boarding schools) belonged back in the 1920s.

Has anyone else heard of anything similar?

When I was a boy scout, new scouts would be tied up on their first campout. The younger ones - 11-12 years old, weren't tied very well; older kids, 13-15, who transfered in, were tied better.

Ive set obstacle courses with the scout staves through clothes. It never fails to end with everyone rolling on the floor laughing!

Scouting is in over 150 countries and are coed at all levels in over 100 countries. Viking from Norway has written plenty of stories. In female only organizations like Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in the U.S. I'm sure there are lots of stories of hijinks waiting to be written. :bound:
