Question about Stories[Poll]

Postby chadmc90 » Thu Nov 13, 2014 2:32 pm

Hey everyone.

So, I am really curious about the kinds of stories that people enjoy to read. Obviously, it has to be TUG related, but there are different sub categories that should be considered. Here is a list of the ones I can think of off the top of my head:

Situational
-Kidnapping/Hostage/Ransom
-Caught in Self Bondage/Discovery of Interest
-Tie-up Competition/Game

Relational
-Boy/Girl Scouts
-Dom/Sub Relationship
-Fraternity/Sorority
-Siblings/Relatives
-Athletic/Team
-Best Friend
-Intimate Relationship(Girlfriend/Boyfriend)
-Master/Slave

Other
-Fantasy/Fictional World
-Celebrity
-Fan Fiction

These are the ones that I could think of off the top of my head. Tell me which of these are your favorite, or if yours isn't listed tell me and I will consider adding it in. Choose, say, 5 at the most. If you think one of mine doesn't fit, explain and i will consider.

Sorry, mate, but the content is ALWAYS less important than the writing.
I am an m/m specialist but our best writer is Sarobah who wouldn't handle that with a bent didgeridoo.
Having said that, poor m/m writing is a total turn-off.
Even within the genres, some of us appreciate erotic stories and some of us don't.
Sorry, but being a mathematician makes me a total pain in the arse when faced with a poorly designed questionnaire.

Well, heck XTC...

M/M is also my specialty as well, but I opted not to put those choices in because all the choices could be written for any of the gender specific stories.

But I do agree that good quality writing always trumps the type of story. I would not like to read a poorly written story even if it has all my interests. But I never said that the type of story was more important though...

As I said(though not directly), please tell me how I can improve this.

Fair request.
Focus on what you want to discover.
Make the survey easy to analyse.
Decide what you will do as a result of the analysis of the results.

Okay, I'll see about revising it. I may reorganize them into smaller sections. I guess I should of held off until I got to feeling better, but oh well.

I'm in agreement with XTC in that the quality of the writing is more important than the type of story. And I honestly have to say I don't read many stories anymore. That being said, I do tend to prefer the kidnapping/hostage stories or ones which involve some kind of competition element to them.

Definitely prefer kidnapping stories, but honestly the quality of the writing and the type of bondage in it means a lot more to me than the scenario itself.

Guys, chill out. I already said I was in agreement that the quality of writing is better than the type of story. Nor did I say that the opposite is true anywhere in my original post. Its just a simple question. Honestly, if you really wanted to discuss it, I have another thread in this section that is titled "A Good Story." But this thread was meant to get a general idea of what people like to read about.

Geez Louise, nobody came on here to attack you or your poll. Maybe you should chill out. If I thought the poll was dumb I probably wouldn't have posted anything at all.

Sigh. Okay, maybe I did overreact. Sorry.... Just felt like it was being overstated. Please, carry on then.

Chad, this reminds me of the analogy of loosing the dragon and having to live with it.

Time to get this back on topic!

I voted other...by accident :big:

My actual vote actually goes to fanfiction because I just have more fun reading those, I certainly have more fun writing them, especially if they are more on the silly side. In fanfics I generally prefer a kidnapping over a friendly tie up because it fits better.

When going with a regular story I prefer either sibling tie ups or best friend ones because, again they are more fun for me. An actual kidnapping without the room to make fun of things like in fanfics are a bit of a downer.

Things I'm not into are master and slave, unless one plays it up to comical degrees, Fraternity and hazings because the concepts are alien to me and stories about Celebrity because writing or reading these things about actual people makes me quite uncomfortable.

Aren't kidnappings, ransoms and maybe even hostage situation are the same thing? Or at least in the same genre.

I picked Kidnapping, Ransom, Fantasy/Fictional World and Fanfiction. I like mostly stories what are fictional and may concern a robbery/kidnap and also fanfiction in which a fictional character (e.g - Mario) is captured by a bad guy. Also as for fantasy/fictional, I like a story in which a human is captured and tied up by a non-human bad guy character (goblin, alien, monster, etc). Or if it is a bad human taken captive by a good guy race to stop him from trying to destroy them or whatever.

Hey guys,

I modified the list based off suggestions. The poll was reset, so please add back in your votes. Sorry for the inconvenience.

We all do it at some point.

I like the changes you made to the poll. I initially voted for kidnapping and ransom but felt like they could've been in the same topic.
