It gives a real helpless feeling to know that no one is there to help you. I do understand the safety issue, but I haven't had any problems or even any close calls and if the captor does it correctly, cannot be any less safe than self bondage, which I'm sure lots have done. I have been bound and gagged (sock in mouth with tape over that and cello wrap around the head) and blind folded, I would love to have my hearing taken away too!
We do the exact same thing. My wife has become really good at tying me. We agree she will chack on me but I don't know for sure when she will free me. While I like trying to escape, lately that has been impossible. I am usually tied for an hour, but once was tied for 2 1/2 hours. She checked a few times then. It does get boring, but the total helplessness is part of the fun.
We make it a competition, tyer vs. tie-ee. I generally lose, but it's fun to try.
I have no use for being tied up if I know I can easily escape. The more difficult the better. However, I prefer being tied vs. handcuffed as being tied seems to offer some possibility of escape, whereas I cannot get loose from handcuffs.
