The Irony of It.

Postby drawscore » Thu Feb 23, 2017 5:42 pm

Imagine if you will, some dumbass dipstick, blocking traffic. Then imagine a driver, fed up with his bullshit, who runs he blockade, and injures this boneheaded asshat.'' Not seriously enough to require hospitalization, but seriously enough to have a paramedic assess his injuries.

Then, imagine the ambulance not being able to get through, because his asshole friends are still blocking the highway.

Well, no. They organized that parade, they have every right to be obstructing traffic. That happens with parades, you know. They close traffic in order to let it proceed. The driver in your situation is clearly a stuck-up dickmuncher who 1. Hates parades and 2. Has no regard for human life. Thus, he drives INTO a parade, causing injury and potential loss of life.
Man, what a dick. Who drives into a parade?

The difference between parades, and idiots, is that parades are usually announced well in advance; the organizer applies for, and is granted a permit; and the parade is held on a city street. Idiots get together and, without any warning, block the interchange of a couple of Interstate highways, then wonder why everybody is pissed off because they deliberately inconvenienced others.

Rights? Yeah, you have rights, but you better remember that the right to swing your fist through the air, ends at the point of my chin. And you damn sure don't have the right to interfere with others, who are simply minding their own business, and not provoking you in any way, shape, or form. If you provoke them, don't be surprised if or when they retaliate.

Even unions don't go on strike without first notifying the public of the day and time the strike will begin.

So, there we were performing a traditional dance in the one-way street that passes the Castle (good pub but the Castle has seen better days) on Mayday. As usual, two of us stood with our backs to the traffic, watching the dance and conversing pleasantly. It usually works. This time it was my friend, Peter and I on duty. Some twat who couldn't wait for two and a half minutes or so decided to keep driving. He took Pete, quite gently, on his bonnet through the set whilst giving all around the benefit of his opinion. (It was, to say the least, entertaining.)

Shortly up the road, the police, who were used to our doing our own traffic control and who were discretely positioned in order not to spoil the event, nicked him for reckless driving. Result!!

Numerous instances. Ferguson. Missouri, Phoenix, Arizona, North Dakota. In fact, North Dakota passed a law absolving from criminal liability, motorists that accidentally hit a protester blocking the road. They didn't go far enough. The protester should be liable for any damage to the motorist's car, too.

Arizona also passed a law, where if it is found that a protester is being paid (George Soros' rent-a-mob) he goes to jail, and for a lot longer than a couple of days.

And to those who support these meatheads, just wait until you are on the road, trying to get to the bedside of a sick or dying relative, or some other emergency, and you are delayed or prevented from getting there. I bet your tune changes in a hell of a hurry. It's amazing how quickly those angels become assholes, when it's YOU that is inconvenienced.

Just to play a little Devil's advocate...

I want to preface this with saying that in no way am I agreeing with Drawscore's extremist opinions on this matter. If someone knowingly drives a car into a crowd of people, at the very least they should be charged with attempted vehicular manslaughter, and if anyone dies, they should be charged with murder. I do NOT condone that course of action in any way and it should be punishable to the fullest extent of the law.

However, he does bring up a good point with his last message.

Protesters are fine. Protest what you want, I have no problem with it whether I agree or disagree with their cause, I fully support their right to protest, but do it in a way that you are not punishing people who have nothing to do with the cause, or even punishing those who might support your cause.

His example was someone trying to get to the bedside of a sick or dying loved one. What if their relative or friend died while they were held up? Is that ok?

Some other examples... someone is trying to get to a very important job interview, and they are made late. Why were they punished? Someone is late to work and gets reprimanded or fired, why did the protesters punish them? Maybe someone has just finished a 12 hour shift at a tough job and just wants to get home, why are the protesters punishing them by blocking their route home? A dad needs to get home to watch his child's first sporting event, but someone trying to further a cause blocks the road and he misses it, or maybe he misses the birth of his next child because they blocked the freeway and caused traffic problems.

I could keep going for days. Protest your cause, have at it, but do not do it in a way that might hurt other people, perhaps even people that support your cause! It makes no sense to block roadways unexpectedly, especially high trafficked ones, in order to try to pursue your own agenda. You are only hurting other people and not making any more of an impact to raise awareness of your cause then to do it in a more peaceful manner.

So I will agree with him that people who choose to do this sort of protest are inconsiderate idiots, but I will not in any way agree that they deserve to be run over.

I'm pleased to see someone gets it.

The fact remains: If you are trying to get to the bedside of a sick or dying loved one; if you are taking a family member or close friend to the emergency room; or if an ambulance is taking a family member or close friend to the emergency room, and the street or Interstate highway is blocked by people with $#!t for brains, your supportive attitude toward them is going to instantly change. It's a whole different story when it's YOUR ox that is being gored. These dipsticks should be tossed in jail for reckless endangerment, and the families of anyone that dies because of them, should sue their socks off for wrongful death. And if there is a greater power behind it, like George Soros funding the "protesters," he should be hammered into the ground with lawsuits.

And to put the shoe on the other foot, how do you think Mr. Protesting Idiot is going to feel if some driver in a concealed carry state, shoots him in the foot, (because the driver feels concerned for the health and safety of himself and/or his passenger) and the ambulance can't get to him because his buddies are blocking the road? I'd bet it makes him think twice before doing it again.

Thing is Drawscore: why do you have a hair up your heinie about this in the first place? Has this happened to you personally or are you just venting?
Like the title of your post, it is ironic that you're protesting other people protesting about peoples' rights being violated. Protesters are incited over the fact that people are being killed by cops (Ferguson) or deported (Phoenix) or having their land taken away from them (North Dakota) without due process. You're getting worked up because you're being delayed a few minutes in traffic. Do you think those things are even remotely equivalent in importance?
You grouse about your own personal inconvenience because other people are trying to call attention to real social injustices?
Seems pretty petty to me.

Jason... just out of curiosity and because I respect your opinions that I have seen on here...

I was just wondering how you would respond to my first post on this thread. Since I did (sort of) fall on the side of Drawscore and you and I normally have very similar stances on things, it made me wonder how you felt on some of the issues I bought up with the protesters that impede traffic.

Seems like a well-reasoned and well thought-out post to me. i certainly have no problem with it.
To be clear, I have no problems with Drawscore's opinions nor with people agreeing with them either. It's the patronizing, belittling snark he often uses to express said opinions that annoys me sometimes; not the opinions themselves. I saw no snark in your aforementioned post, nor even anything I particularly disagreed with; so it's perfectly fine by me.
