Sailor's Daughter: Closing out the year. (Complete)

Part 1: In this part, Katie and her Dad enjoy a few surprises.

Well, we had just gotten back from my Grandmother's house after a long Christmas eve party. Once we got home, I headed up stairs, and got ready for bed. I was excited for tomorrow, but I was also equally tired. I brushed my teeth, put on my pajamas, and headed for my bed.

“Good night Katie,” Dad told me.

“Good night Dad,” I said back, and with that I drifted off to sleep.

Christmas morning...

The next morning, I woke up fairly early. It was about seven in the morning, and it was still dark outside. I figured Dad was up by now, and there wasn't much chance of me getting any sleep given the nature of the day at hand.

I took a quick shower, dried and combed my hair, and then returned to my room to get dressed. Well, when I say get dressed, I mean slipping on my undergarments, and following them up with one of my newest gifts from last night, (courtesy of my Grandmother.). It was a gray Chaftan robe with long sleeves that zipped up the front.

With that done, I headed down stairs to see Dad awake, and was snapping a photo of the tree with all of the presents under it. It was a beautiful scene. He must have heard me walking down the steps, because he turned his attention in my direction.

“Good morning Katie,” Dad greeted. “Merry Christmas.”

“Merry Christmas,” I said back, with a smile.

“Katie, could you please stand in front of the tree?” Dad then asked.

“Yeah, sure,” I piped, and then stood to the side of the tree a bit, but also making sure I was in view of his camera. I smiled, and he then snapped his photo.

“So, shall we get started,” Dad then suggested. We usually do our stockings first, and then take a quick breakfast break. Considering I was the youngest of the two of us, I was given the honor of going first. My stocking contained the usual suspects. Pencils, soaps, a couple candies, etc. Dad then picked up his stocking, and it was pretty much the same thing for him. Although he had shaving cream were I did not. (Not that I'm complaining.)

So, with the stockings out of the way, we headed for the kitchen, and we each selected a cinnamon roll. I put mine in the microwave for a couple minutes to heat it up a bit, but Dad didn't seem to mind just eating his as it was.

“When do you think I should call Linda?” I asked him. Just in case I didn't get to see Linda today, I wanted to at least call her, and tell her Merry Christmas.

“Not before ten or so,” Dad suggested. I nodded my understanding, and then went back to eating my roll.

Once that was done, it was time for us, to start up the big stuff. Dad sat down on the couch, and let me dive under the tree to fetch the gifts. I usually tried to keep it back and forth as much as possible, so the first package I pulled out was for him.

“Okay, this is to you from Uncle Robert,” I stated, and handed it to him.

“Oh, thank you,” He said, and then began unwrapping it. The removal of the paper had revealed the new cpu he wanted for his computer. “Yes!” Dad snapped, in a hissing tone, once he saw what it was. Next it was my turn. The package I picked was quite small, but as we all know, big things come in small packages.

“Holy cow!” I bellowed, once I saw what it was. It was a copy of GTA V.

“Katie, I have something I need to tell you regarding that,” Dad stated. I looked at him intently.

“Yeah?” I asked.

“Only play that online until you turn twenty one,” Dad demanded. “Can I trust you to do that?”

“Yes,” I said. I knew why too. This game had a lot of...I'll be nice, and say negative messages in it. The online functions however keep these at a minimum. Plus, I'd like to think that I was mature enough to know better.

So yeah, we went back and forth through the various gifts. I don't remember what all Dad got. Heck, I don't remember what all I got – actually no. I do remember the Mewtwo Amiibo, and a shining pair of bracelets. (They were handcuffs....real handcuffs.)

“Did you steal these from Officer Peterson?” I asked Dad, with a smirk on my face.

“No,” Dad said, trying to sound innocent. “But he did have a hand in their acquisition,” He then answered. I just laughed, and set them with my other stuff, and then turned my attention back to the tree. There were two more gifts left.

“This is to you from Santa,” I told Dad, and then sat down on the couch next him, as he opened his present.

“Ah yes, one can never have too many of these,” He said, as he looked at a shining new gun cleaning kit. That just left more gift for me to fetch. It looked like a clothes box. I looked at the tag, and saw that it was addressed to me from someone identifying themselves as “The Good Captain.”

“Who's it for?” Dad asked.

“It's addressed to me, and it says it's from The Good Captain,” I answered.

“Perhaps Captain Hayward asked Santa to make a delivery for him,” Dad guessed, which made me chuckle. I sat down with the package in my lap. It was the right size for what I had hoped was in it. I was just hoping I was right.

I removed the wrapping paper to reveal what looked like a clothes box. My hunch was starting to look accurate at this point. My anxiety was building. I was just really hoping to see what I was expecting. I carefully removed the tape on the edges of the box with the scissors, and opened it. I then lifted the first piece of tissue paper.

“Ah, there it is,” I said, with a smile. It was the Team Ariat Polo Shirt that I was wanting for the past two months.

“Captain Hayward asked me to tell you: Merry Christmas,” Dad said. “He hopes you like it.”

“I love it,” I said. “I just hope it fits me,” I then added, and checked the tag. Sure enough it was my size. “Yep, it's the right size,” I confirmed.

“That's certainly good to know,” He said. I then looked at him.

“Well, that's it for the presents, so if you don't mind, I think I should go get dressed now,” I stated. Dad gave me a nod, and with that, I closed the box, and carried it up stairs with me. Good thing I had already taken my shower, and done my hair.

Once I got to my room, I set the box down on my bed, and then opened my closet door. Sweatpants, or anything like that would not do this shirt justice. I wanted to wear something nice with this. After looking over my options I pulled out a pair of black leggings, and a khaki colored uniform skirt.

https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com ... UX466_.jpg

https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com ... L1500_.jpg

I removed my robe, and slipped my leggings on first. With that done, it was now time for me to try on my new shirt. It fit perfectly, and the cotton it was made from was very soft and comfortable.

Next came my skirt. I made sure that my shirt was nicely tucked into my skirt before I fastened it around my waist. With my outfit complete, I decided to tie my hair back into a ponytail with a white scrunchie. Now it was time for me to see how I looked.

I looked into the mirror on my closet, and I was impressed. The skirt's lighter color allowed my shirt's bolder colors to shine much better then if I had used a darker colored skirt. I also thought that the contrasting red on inner placket particularly was a nice touch as well. More importantly though, it brought back so many memories I had with Sam when we went horseback riding.

“I think I might be wearing this at least once a week,” I told myself.

I left my room, and headed down stairs to show my outfit to Dad. I entered the living room to see him putting the wrapping paper into a large garbage bag. I smiled, and casually folded my arms in front of me.

“What do you think?” I asked allowed. Dad turned around to see me. He then scowled.

“Well, put your arms down, so I can see it,” He then requested.

“Oh, sorry,” I responded, and then clasped my hands behind my back, so that my shirt was on full display for him.

“Very nice,” He stated, as he looked me over. “I really like the way the colors meld together,” He then pointed out.

“Yeah, I thought so too,” I added.

“It makes the shirt look less uniform like, and more...sporty,” Dad stated. I just shrugged, and grinned. I then walked up to him, and gave him a hug. A hug that he returned.

“If I don't get the chance, can you tell Captain Hayward I said thanks?” I asked.

“Will do,” Dad answered, as we both let go of each other.

Um, "The Author" is me. I was trying to draw attention to Jake, but I guess it didn't work. Anyways, I'm going to do a character profile for them simply so that I don't have to waste time explaining stuff about them during the actual stories.

Part 2: In this part, Katie can only wait as her freedom melts away.

After breakfast...

Once we got the wrapping paper picked up, we had a nice breakfast of biscuits, sausage gravy, and scrambled eggs. Once we were done, I helped Dad with the dishes, and then returned to the living room to take my new gifts upstairs, and find new homes for them in my room.

I set my new games on my desk with my other ones. My Mewtwo Amiibo was set in another section of my desk beside my computer monitor. I dealt with all my other stuff in a similar manner, and then I came across my new handcuffs.

Naturally these would stay in my equipment drawer in my dresser, but I wanted to experiment with them for a little bit first. I opened the box, and pulled them out. Oh, and these weren't toy cuffs either. These were good quality, double lock, steel cuffs. It was at this point though that I realized that something was a bit off. You see, the cuffs were supposed to come with two keys, but I only saw one in the box. I decided to let Dad know.

With the cuffs in hand, I went back downstairs to the living room where Dad was turning on some Christmas music.

“Hey Dad?” I asked.

“Yeah?” He asked back.

“These were supposed to come with two keys, but I only have one here,” I explained., holding my cuffs and key up a bit for him to see. To my surprise, Dad smirked.

“Ah, I had a feeling you might notice that,” He said. I blinked at him. Given his reaction, I could only assume he did something with one of the keys before wrapping the gift. Dad motioned for me to follow him. I followed him into the kitchen where he opened up the freezer. He then pulled out the ice cube tray. I could see one of the cubes had a small key attached to a key ring inside it.

“Okay, why did you freeze it?” I asked, sounding more puzzled then anything.

“This was another strange game that your mother introduced me to,” Dad said. “She'd cuff her hands, and then wouldn't be released from them until the ice melted,” He then explained.

“Oh,” I chirped.

“Care to try?” He then asked. I wasn't really sure about this at first to be honest.

“How long will it take for the ice to melt?” I asked.

“Your Mom always told me that that was what made it so much fun: The uncertainty of not truly knowing,” Dad answered. I nodded my understanding. Never the less though, curiosity was getting the better of me..

“Oh what the heck, I'll give it a try,” I said, with a grin. Dad then nodded.

“Oh, excuse me for a second,” He said, in a tone that suggested he had forgotten something. He then left the kitchen briefly. Dad returned with, of all, things, a tiny pad lock in his hand. It was the kind you usually use to lock up a jewelry box.

“What's that for?” I asked.

“It's for you,” He said. I blinked at him. Dad took hold of my handcuffs, and threaded the chain links through the shackle on the lock. He then walked around behind me.

“What are you doing?” I asked, as I tried to look behind me.

“I'm securing the lock to the middle belt loop on the back of your skirt,” Dad answered, just before he locked the cuffs to my skirt.

“Ah, now it makes sense,” I said, with a smile. Dad then came around in front of me again.

“Now then, I'm not going to pull the key out to melt until you secure your wrists in those cuffs,” Dad stated. I laughed a bit. I then put my key onto the counter, and I put my hands behind my back. I placed my left hand inside it's respective shackle, and secured it around my wrist. I then did the same with my right wrist.

I was stuck. The cuffs did not let my wrists slip out, and I wouldn't be able to get my hands in front of me with the padlock holding them in place. Only the ice around the key would determine when I could get loose. It was a very exciting feeling. Also, it was very nice to finally have a set of cuffs that were very easy to put on myself.

“So, what am I under arrest for?” I asked, as Dad pulled out a bowl from one of the cupboards.

“Um...for having to much fun? I didn't really think that part through,” Dad answered, which made me laugh. Dad then placed the ice cube which held the key inside the bowl. Naturally we wanted the ice to melt in a controlled area. It was at this point a realized I had forgotten something.

“Oh shoot!” I snapped.

“What?” Dad asked.

“I should have gagged myself first,” I stated. Dad just rolled his eyes, and grinned.

“You want me to get you one?” He asked.

“Um, not yet. At least not until after we've called everyone,” I answered. “And besides,” I then added, along with a mischievous grin. “It might be more fun if you surprise me with one later on.”

“I can arrange that,” Dad said, and gave me a sly wink. I smiled at him. I looked at the ice cube that held the key to my freedom. It was taking it's sweet time melting, that was for sure. That's when I remembered something else.

“Hey Dad? Where's the key to the pad lock?” I asked him.

“Oh, I have it in my pocket here,” He said, and then pulled it out to show me. “Anyways, let's go ahead, and give your friends a call,” He then suggested. I nodded, and followed him to the phone. The first call went to Sam's family.

“Merry Christmas!” We both called into the speaker.

“Oh, thank you, Merry Christmas to you as well,” Mrs. Parker said back. “How are you?”

“We're doing good,” Dad answered, and it was pretty much just idle chit-chat from there. We then did the same thing for Lucy's Family, and finally Linda's. We tried to call Kelsey as well, but we got the answering machine, and so we left a message.

“So Dad, is alright if I hang on to the key to the padlock?” I asked him. Dad pulled out the key, and handed it to me. I scowled at him. “Dad,” I groaned. He snorted, and then set the key into my skirt pocket. I then went back to the kitchen to check the progress of the key.

The ice had barely shown any signs of melting. I sighed a bit. This was likely to last a long time. Even though it was getting close to lunch time, I wasn't really that hungry. In fact, I was pretty sure I could skip lunch all together. I remembered I had received a few new packs of Pokémon cards, so I carefully headed upstairs to see what I had.

Trying to open these up with your hands bound behind you is not fun. I also didn't dare trying to use scissors given the fact that I couldn't really see what I was doing. I could either hurt myself, or damage the cards. Eventually I got them open. Truth be told, I didn't get anything I didn't have yet, although a did get a few new holographs, so that was good.

I couldn't reach my binder at this time given the fact that my hands were currently binder-ed themselves, but I stacked them in a small deck next to my dresser. I sighed a bit, and decided to check on the ice. At this point I was really hoping it had at least showed some sighs of melting. I didn't want to be stuck like this until dinner time.

I left my room, and almost walked smack-dab into Dad. He was holding something in both hands. I didn't even see what it was, as he instantly pressed it my lips.

“Whmm hmm?” I asked. It was sticky, so I had assumed it was tape, but this wasn't duct tape. It was way too sticky, and it was too big. Oh yeah,...it was also much more effective.

“You're not the only one doing their research Katie,” Dad told me, with a hint of evil in his eyes.

“Dmd? Whmm ih thms?” I asked, hoping for an answer.

“This is Microfoam Tape Katie,” Dad explained. “It's also known as medical tape. Anyways, I had seen that this stuff is not only more effective then duct tape, but it's also safer as well.”

“Mmm,” I said, with a nod.

“And I wanted your opinion on it before I picked up anymore,” Dad said. The tape had enough size to prevent me from forcing my mouth open. My mouth was staying shut, so it passes the effectiveness test. “Do you like it?” Dad then asked me.

“Hlmd nn a snncnd,” I said, and went back into my room. I needed to know how the gag looked after all. I then looked at myself in the mirror. The tape on my mouth actually looked quite lovely, so it passed my looks test as well. I also got a good look at my cuffed hands as well, and nodded my approval. I then turned to face Dad.

“Does it meet your approval?” He asked. I giggled a bit.

“Hmhm, thmm ih a lmvlmy ghg,” I said, while nodding yes.

“Okay then then, I'll see about picking up some more in the near future,” He said, and started to walk away. “Oh, would you like me to take that off?” He then asked, pointing at my mouth.

“MmmMmm,” I said, shaking my head no.

“Okay,” He said, with a shrug, and then headed down stairs with me. His destination was the TV room. Mine was the kitchen.

I looked at the bowl, and saw that enough time had passed for some water to form. The ice was finally starting to melt. It was slow, but it was happening. I nodded, left the kitchen, and joined Dad in the TV room, as he popped in one of his new movies.

“Any change with the ice?” He asked me.

“Ih mmltnng a lmttle bmt,” I said, and nodded.

A few hours later...

Dad actually watched two movies, and every so often I'd get up from the couch to check on the ice, pace around a bit, or head upstairs to look at myself in the mirror. I eventually made one more trip to the kitchen, and saw that the ice had actually melted enough that I could maybe rub it off the key.

I turned my back to the bowl, and fumbled with my bound hands a bit until I was able to grip the edge of the bowl. I then looked behind me, and set the bowl on one of the stools. Now that the bowl was low enough, I could take the key out with my hand.

I rubbed the key in my hands for a few minutes, and the ice had finally melted from it, and into the bowl. I was finally able to free myself from the cuffs. With my hands free, I pulled out the padlock key from my skirt, and unlocked the shackle holding the cuffs to my skirt.

With that done, I was also able to remove the tape from my mouth. In spite of how sticky it was, it didn't leave any of that sticky residue, or after feeling that duct tape usually leaves, so I'd have to add this to my “favorites” list as well. Now that I was free, I headed to the TV room to show Dad.

“Oh, I see it finally melted,” He pointed out. “What did you think?”

“It was interesting to say the least,” I said. “I'll have to try it again sometime.”

And that was Christmas day. Next up...New Years Day at Linda's house.

Part 3: In this part, The Trotters have a huge surprise for everyone.

Ah yes, New Years Eve. The day that encourages you to stay up late, and celebrate The Earth circling the Sun. It was already mid afternoon, and we needed to get going. Linda's family had been nice enough to invite all of us over to their place to celebrate the new year, and Dad and I were fairly far behind our intended schedule. Phone calls from work places can do that.

“Katie, are you all set?” Dad called from behind my door.

“Almost!” I called back. My friends and I were dressing up again today. I had on a nice white oxford shirt with long sleeves and a straight point collar. My shirt was tucked into a black skater skirt which I paired with a matching set of tights. (You'll understand the “waitress” look soon.)

After putting my hair back, and keeping it back with a white hairband, I packed my phone, my 3DS, and a few other fun items, (winky face,) and within a minute or so, we were both on our way to Linda's house.

As we pulled up into the driveway, I wasn't too surprised to see that Lucy and Sam were already here as well. Dad and I got out of the truck, and before we reached the porch the door flung open to reveal Linda with a scowl on her face. She was dressed identically to me.

“You're late,” She snarled, with narrowed eyes pointed right at me. I smiled nervously.

“You can thank Nickie for that,” My Dad snarled back.

“How?” Linda asked.

“To make a long story short, Nickie's one of the supervisors where I work. She's fresh out of brain cells, and I had to help walk a few guys through cleaning up one of her stupid mistakes,” Dad explained.

“Oh, She sounds pleasant,” Linda stated, in a sarcastic tone, and with that we were allowed inside. We all exchanged our usual greetings. Lucy and Sam, by the way, were dressed exactly the same as me and Linda.

“What kept you two?” Lucy then asked.

“You all remember what I told you about Nicke, right?” Dad asked her. Sam and Lucy rolled their eyes. A few of the adults slapped their hands into their faces.

“Oh, yeah, I know,” Mrs. Parker groaned.

“Why don't you fire her?” Mr. Wolff asked.

“I've been considering it,” Dad grumbled in response. While the adults began talking with each other, my friends and I had decided to adjourn to the play room where I found Amy and Lauren playing Hyrule Warriors. Amy and Lauren did not join us in dressing up, and instead had on T-shirts and jeans.

“Hi Amy, Hi Lauren,” I greeted. They both turned to face me briefly.

“Hello Katie,” The both said in unison. I then looked at the screen.

“Going after Volga's Level Three Spear?” I then asked, after recognizing the level they were on. Amy was playing Volga while Lauren was playing Young Link.

“Yep,” Amy chirped, as she demolished another group of enemies. (Volga is so much fun.)

“We've all been taking turns as usual,” Linda clarified.

“I take it you have some of our favorites in there?” Lucy then asked me, seeing I was still carrying my bag.

“Yes I do,” I said, with a smug look. “Actually I'd like to get your opinion on something,” I then added.

“Shoot,” Linda said, as she clasped her hands behind her back.

“Just stay like that,” I instructed. Linda just shrugged, and remained as she was. I then pulled out a length of rope, and bound her hands in the double column tie. “Okay, now struggle a bit,” I then requested. Lucy and Sam were watching intently, as they were quite curious on what I was looking for considering we've done this a lot.

“Feels the same as usual,” Linda said, as she wiggled a bit. She then stood still so I could untie her. I then put the rope back, and pulled out one of my new bed sheet strips.

“Is that from a bed sheet?” Linda asked.

“It was,” I said in response. Amy and Lauren had now paused their game, and were watching us now. I twirled my finger at Linda, and she knew to turn her back to me with her hands behind her again. I then tied her hands with the bed sheet strip.

“Okay, now which do you like better?” I asked her, once I was done with the tie. “Rope, or this?”

“Hard to say,” Linda said. She wiggled a bit again in an attempt to notice a difference. “I don' really notice a difference,” She said.

“It might be because we have long sleeves on,” Sam pointed out.

“You might be right,” Linda stated. “If both were on just the skin, I would imagine this would be a bit more comfortable.”

“That's what I was thinking,” I then said.

“Mind if I give it a shot?” Lucy then asked.

“Sure,” I said back.

A few hours later...

So yeah, I got the feedback I needed in that regard. Once the clock struck about five Linda called Sam, Lucy, and me into the kitchen while our parents were seated at the table. Linda had decided to cook today, and Sam, Lucy, and I offered to help her out. Hence why we dressed up in waitress style outfits.

“So what's on the menu?” I asked, as all of us stood at attention with our hands behind our backs.

“Okay, so we're going to be making a Surf and Turf type meal consisting of steak, scallops, mashed potatoes, and green beans,” Linda stated. My mouth started watering with every word she spoke.

With that, we got started. Each of us did our parts to the best of our abilities. Linda was mostly giving directions while trying to juggle her own duties at the same time. Within about a span of an hour we were finally done.

I took one plate out of the kitchen, and into the dining room. I then set it down in front of my Dad.

“Oh, thanks Katie,” He said, graciously.

“Your welcome,” I said back, and then headed back to the kitchen to fetch another important plate...mine. Lucy, Sam, and Linda did the same thing with their parents as well. After that we grabbed our own plates, and sat down to eat as well.

“I do love when they do this,” Ms. Trotter said, with a grin.

“It's fun,” I chirped.

“Linda, you are a fantastic cook,” Lucy complimented, as she took a bite of the green beans.

“You're going to make a great wife one day,” My Dad pointed out. This resulted in a lot of snickering from us, and a bit of blushing from Linda.

“Oh my,” Was all she could say in response.

Just before midnight...

With dinner out of the way, we were having fun in the play room with Linda's Munchkin game just waiting for when the clock to strike twelve. Mrs. Trotter looked up from her hand, and to the clock.

“Oh, we have about ten minutes,” She said. We all then set our cards down on the table, and headed to the kitchen. The Trotters then started pouring Champagne for the adults, and Martinellis for us kids. We then watched, as the clock ticked away.

“3...2...1...Happy New Year!” Mr. Trotter stated, and we all toasted, and drank to the new year. Overall, it was a good year. It had it's ups and downs, but it was never boring.

“This brings me to something I want to share with all of you,” Mrs. Trotter stated. We all then followed her into the living room where she revealed an envelope. We all watched intently, as she opened it, and pulled out what may have been a photo inside it. When Lucy's Mother saw it, her eyes bugged out.

“Ooooohhhh!” She squeaked, and handed it to her husband. He also reacted in a similar manner. Now I was very curious to see what it was.

“Let's just say that the year isn't the only thing new around here,” Mrs. Trotter stated, with a sly grin. The photo was now in Dad's hand, and he grinned broadly.

“Oh ho ho ho,” He said.

“What is it?” Linda asked him. He then gave the photo to us, and we all looked at it. When I saw it I put my hands to my mouth with wide eyes. It was a photo – an ultrasound photo of a newborn to be exact.

Linda turned to her Mother with a look of pure shock.

“Mum?” She asked, as her eyes started to tear up.

“Meet your Baby Brother Linda,” Mrs. Trotter said with a loving smile. We all then gave the Trotters a round of applause while Linda hugged her Mother.

“Congratulations,” My Dad said, proudly.

Part 4: In this part, everyone is witness to a great family reunion, and Katie is invited to a new school hosted by her Dad.

Well, school had to start up eventually again. My friends and I had survived the first four days back, and that brings me to Friday. Dad and I were on our way to my school, and I couldn't help but notice he was grinning.

“Dad?” I asked him.

“Hmmm?” He asked back.

“What are you smiling about?” I asked. To my surprise, Dad snickered.

“You'll see later on,” He told me.

“Alright, what do you have planned?” I inquired, with a scowl, and my arms crossed.

“I don't have anything planned,” He stated, rather firmly too. “Don't say anything, but it's a surprise for your friend, Kelsey,” He then explained.

“Oh,” I chirped, and with that, we continued on our way.

* * * *

Once Dad made his way to the front of the school, I got out with my backpack in hand. I gave him a quick salute, and made my way to my locker where Linda and Kelsey were waiting.

“Is she always such a...?” Kelsey was asking.

“Unfortunately yes,” Linda snarled. Given the nature of the conversation, I instantly identified the subject of said conversation.

“What did Roslyn do this time?” I asked.

“She kicked my leg which caused me to fall, and scatter my books everywhere,” Kelsey growled. I rolled my eyes.

“Just once I'd like to meet her in a dark alley with no witnesses,” Was my response. It got a chuckle out of Kelsey and Linda which made me feel better. Kelsey then looked over at me.

“Katie, do you always wear polo shirts?” She asked. Even though Friday was a free dress day of sorts, I had decided to wear my camo pants, and a plain navy blue polo shirt. I just shrugged, as I opened my locker.

“Not always...but often,” I said, in response.

“She just really likes them,” Linda stated. Kelsey just shrugged, and we left it at that.

* * * *

Ah, Math Class. One of my personal favorites. There was no assigned seating for Mr. Stewart's Classroom, (or any classroom for that matter,) so it was pick a spot, and sit down. As I took my seat, and opened up one of my books, I got quite a surprise.

“Do you mind if I sit here?” A Young Boy's voice asked. I looked to my right to see a boy who was roughly my age with a handsome face, and even better looking hair. It wasn't quite a crew cut, but it was up there. He was a bit taller then me, and judging from his physique, he was a sports player.

“No, I don't mind,” I said, as politely as I could.

“I'm Kevin,” He then greeted.

“I'm Katie,” I greeted back, and we shook hands. My heart skipped a beat. I couldn't believe it. For the first time since I had attended this school, I was talking to a boy who wasn't inherently afraid of me. He clearly must not have heard of my “sinister reputation” yet.

That was when I saw one of Roslyn's “Flying Monkeys” come over to us, and she began whispering something to him. Given the way the expression on his face started changing, there was no question that she was “educating” him on who I was. My heart sank. Once the Harpy was done, she gave me a wink while I gave her a glare. Kevin was now looking at me a bit more worried.

“Did she tell you what a horrible person I am?” I asked him.

“Um, no...she just...” He stammered. I blinked at him. He then began gathering up his books.

“Something wrong?” I asked him.

“Oh no, it's just, I think I'll get a better look at the board from back here,” He responded. I nodded my head in false understanding.

“Ah, of course,” I said, my voice reeking of sarcasm. I then turned back to my papers, and just sighed. Would this ever end?

* * * *

Once School had let out, I met Kelsey in the parking lot.

“My Mom's a bit late,” She said.

“Is she usually?” I asked.

“No, she's not,” Kelsey said. I then saw a rather unusual sight. I saw my Dad pull into the school parking lot, but rather then drive around over to me, he had instead halted the truck in a parking spot, and then got out to join us.

“Hey Katie, hi Kelsey,” He greeted.

“Hey Dad, what are you doing?” I asked him. There was that grin again.

“Waiting,” He stated.

“Waiting for what?” I inquired.

“As I said: you'll see,” He said.

“Uh, what's going on?” Sam then asked, as She, Linda, and Lucy walked up to us. We soon had our answer. A slick looking car pulled up next to us, and a Man about my dad's age stepped out from the passenger seat. He had a full crew cut, a steel gaze, and a smile on his face, as he looked over at Kelsey. Kelsey was in complete shock.

“DADDY!!” She shrieked, and hobbled over to him to give him a hug. It looked as though his year long tour was finally over, and he was able to come home.

“How are you Sweetheart?” He asked his daughter.

“I-I missed you,” Kelsey sobbed, as tears poured from her eyes. I then saw Mrs. Ryan step out from the car as well.

“I missed you too,” Mr. Ryan said back. My friends and I all looked at each other, and we knew what to do. We gave them a round of applause. Once the hug was over, (after a few minutes or so,) Kelsey's Father then noticed my Father.

“Jeffery Narrows, it's a pleasure to meet you in person,” He stated proudly.

“Likewise Staff Sergeant Ryan,” My Dad said back, and they both fist bumped each other. They all then looked back at us.

“I'm Katie,” I greeted, and I shook his hand.

“My Daughter,” Dad then added.

“Ah, yes, I heard about what you did for Kelsey a month or so ago,” Mr. Ryan said. My friends all started giggling.

“Oh yeah, that,” I said, nervously. He was referring to our little stunt in rescuing Kelsey.

“Hello, I'm Linda,” Linda then greeted.

“I'd know an English accent anywhere,” Mr. Ryan stated, and shook her hand. She just grinned at him.

“I'm Sam, Katie's neighbor,” Sam then greeted.

“And I'm Lucy, Katie's other neighbor,” Lucy greeted.

“It's so wonderful to meet you all. I've heard so much about you,” Mr. Ryan said.

“We deny all of it,” Dad said, with a smirk, and everyone laughed.

“Sweetie, we have to get home,” Mrs. Ryan then said.

“Right, hopefully we can talk again at a later time,” Mr. Ryan then said to us.

“Indeed,” Dad said.

* * * *

Well, that was fun. Dad gave us all our respective rides home before he had to return to work. We did our homework at Lucy's house today, and as per the unofficial custom, we all had dinner there as well. Once I saw Dad pull up to my house though, I knew it was time to leave. I said my good-byes, grabbed my backpack, and headed for home.

“Hey Katie,” dad greeted, as I opened the door.

“Hi Dad,” I said back, as I closed it behind me. “How soon before we head to the basement?” I then asked.

“As soon as I sort out a couple things,” Dad responded. I nodded, and headed up stairs to my room.

I set my backpack down at the foot of my bed, and changed out of my current outfit. I then slipped on a pair of blue gym shorts and my red sports bra. I then tied my hair into a ponytail, grabbed a towel, and headed for the basement.

As I waited for Dad, I went through a couple motions that we had practiced earlier in the week. You see, usually Monday through Thursday are the days in which he imparts new techniques for me to try, and Friday is the general sparring day in which I apply what I've learned.

I went through a spinning kick behind me only to have my foot caught by Dad who was now in his own gym shorts. I could tell by the look in his eyes he meant business. We held our respective positions for a minute or so, as we eyed stared each other down. I decided to break the stand-off, and with that, we were under way.

1 hour later...

After about an hour or so of fast paced kicks and swings, we decided to call it good there. After wiping my forehead with the towel, I took a few minutes to catch my breath. I then headed up stairs to put my towel in the dirty clothes. Now I was pondering what to do next.

“You know what? To heck with it,” I thought to myself. I opened my toy drawer, and pulled out my new metal handcuffs, my black pair of soft handcuffs, and a red bandanna. Since it was a weekend coming up, I could stay up a bit longer then usual. With my items in hand, I headed down stairs.

I made my way to the TV room, and saw Dad seated on the couch. I walked around it to the front, and sat down beside him. He was playing Hyrule Warriors. He then saw the stuff I was carrying.

“I'm guess you don't feel like doing much of anything right now?” He asked, as I used the metal cuffs around my ankles. I looked at him, and shook my head no. I then held up the bandanna, and tied a loose knot in the center of it. “Or chatting?” Dad then added. Again, I shook my head no. I then pushed the knot into my mouth, and tied the two ends off under my hair behind me. I made my gag a bit more loose then normal simply for comfort. Finally I took hold of the other pair of hand cuffs, and fasten one to my left wrist.

“Here, I'll get the other one,” Dad said, as he paused his game. I then put my hands behind my back, and Dad wrapped the other cuff around my left wrist. Now that I was bound and gagged, I took in a deep sigh, and leaned against the arm rest of the couch, as I watched Dad play his game.

You know, there's a strange feeling of freedom involved with this. I didn't have to worry about doing anything or saying anything. All I had to do was just sit back and relax. On that note, I was glad that I chose to put the metal cuffs on my feet, and use the soft ones on my wrists. My mind however was now on what had happened between Kevin and me earlier.

“Katie, is something bothering you,” My Psychic Father asked, as he paused his game again. I just looked at him, and shook my head no. Dad eyed me suspiciously. I then sighed, and leaned foreword so he could remove the gag from my mouth.

“Just a little bit,” I said, once the bandanna was removed.

“What is it?” Dad asked. I then told him about my meeting Kevin, and Roslyn's Drone ruining it.

“I thought that maybe I had lucked out finally, but no. She had to swoop in, and ruin it before it started,” I complained. Dad knows all about my struggle to make friends among guys. Much to my surprise. Dad just smirked.

“Katie, have you ever thought of trying to meet guys outside of School?” Dad asked me. I kinda just stopped for a second. I honestly hadn't thought of that.

“But, I don't even know where to start,” I said. Dad just rolled his eyes.

“Now you're just making excuses,” He said, with a scowl. I just sighed. “Look, I may actually know of a good starting point for you, but it is a long shot,” He then stated, and I perked up a bit.

“What?” I asked.

“Dale wanted me to do a series of Self Defense classes for some of the new Rookies on the Police Force, and it's starting up next Saturday,” Dad explained. “Would you like to join me?” He then asked. I thought about this for a minute, and then nodded yes.

“Yeah, sure,” I chirped. Dad then nodded back.

“Oh, would you like that back?” He then asked me. He was pointing at the knot in the bandanna around my neck. I nodded yes, and opened my mouth. Dad then fit the knot in between my teeth again, and resumed his game. At least I had something fun to look foreword to next week, and maybe, just maybe, I'd break out of this rut I was in with guys.

Part 5: In this part, A few Rookies are introduced to Katie's Father...The instructor.

The next week...

“So yeah, Dad's going to be teaching these guys basically what he's been teaching me, and I agreed to come along for the ride in a sense,” I told Linda, as we were on Skype at the time playing Magicka with Kelsey, and Sam. Lucy was watching from Sam computer while Mr. Ryan was watching Kelsey's.

“You might be able to add your own two cents worth in too,” Linda told me. I shrugged a bit, and nodded at that.

“Given your Father's background, those young officers are in good hands,” Mr. Ryan then mentioned. I snorted at hearing this.

“I would say they're in for a rude awakening,” I stated, with a sneer.

“Well, that's likely true too,” Mr. Ryan agreed, and we all laughed.

“Sam, can you revive me please?” Linda then asked. Sam input the spell, and revived...me, as I had died just before Linda had. “One more time please?” Linda requested. Sam then cast the spell again, and Linda was back in the game.

“These guys are tough,” I pointed out. I then saw Linda summon a boulder that fell straight down, and crushed her. I instantly burst out laughing.

“I just killed myself. Can you revive me again please?” Linda then asked, through her own laughter.

“I'm going to start charging for this!” Sam then complained, and the laughter only intensified. That was until...

“Whoa!!” We all yelled in some way. I don't know what happened, but a few spells triggered all at once, and somehow it killed all of us instantly, and almost all of our enemies as well.

“Okay, who did that?” Kelsey asked. I noticed Sam look away from her camera with a guilty look on her face.

“Sam?” I asked, itching for a confession.

“I thought I'd try something new,” She squeaked out. By now Mr. Ryan, and Lucy were barely able to breathe from laughing. Soon enough Mrs. Ryan entered the room to see what the noise was about.

“What's going on in here?” She asked.

“We're losing,” Kelsey answered.

“Well, we gotta end off here anyway. I gotta get some sleep,” I said.

“Alright, good night Katie,” Everyone said, in there own way.

“Good night guys,” I said back. I exited the game, and then the call. I then crawled into bed, turned off the lights, and went to sleep.

* * * *

I woke up at around my usual weekend wake up time of around nine O'clock or so. I stretched myself out, and hit the shower. Once I was done I thought about what I was going to wear for the day. I decided to wear my cashmere robe for now until I figured it out. I then headed down stairs for some breakfast.

In the kitchen I saw that Dad was up, and making pancakes.

“Hey Baby girl,” He greeted. It never failed to get a scowl out of me, and a smirk out of him. “Sleep well,”

“Yeah,” I chirped. “Are there any pancakes in the oven, or is this the first one?” I then asked.

“This is the first one,” Dad said. I sat down on a stool at the counter, and waited.

“So, where are we going for the class?” I asked, in an attempt to pass the time a little.

“Oh, the police academy has a room we can use,” Dad said. The thing is, My Dad has done these classes many times before, but this is the first time that I'd be joining him for them. I nodded, and then waited for breakfast to finish cooking.

After a few minutes, I plated myself a few pancakes, and then sat back down to eat. It was mostly quiet, as we really didn't have much else to say, and Dad had his face buried in his news paper anyway, so I had no incentive to pester him about anything else.

Once I was done, I rinsed my plate off, and loaded it into the dishwasher.

“We need to be leaving soon, so you'd best get ready,” Dad instructed. I gave him a nod, and headed back upstairs.

After using the restroom, I headed back to my room, and opened my closet. What to wear? I mulled over some possible options. That's when my eyes darted around a couple items. I then grinned. I knew what to do now: The Lady Cop Look. Or at least, as close to it as I could.

I pulled out my biker chic jacket, followed by a pair of blue jeans, a navy blue oxford shirt with short sleeves, a nice leather belt, and a pair of my newer black riding boots. I got dressed, and then put my hair back into a ponytail. I then opened the top drawer of my dresser, and pulled out a pair of gold rimmed sunglasses with dark lenses.

I then closed my closet door, put on my shades, and looked at myself in the mirror. I smirked at my reflection, and then headed down stairs to wait for Dad. Dad was in fact already waiting for me, and when he saw me, he let out a high pitched whistle.

“Don't you look slick,” He stated.

“I just wanted to make a good first impression,” I said back.

“This is an impression and a half, Young Lady,” Dad said, beaming at me. I just quirked my eyebrows at him. “You ready?” He then asked.

“Oh, I forgot my phone, hold on,” I said, and then raced back upstairs. I grabbed my phone, and put it into my pant's pocket. I then headed back down stairs, and we were ready to hit the road.

At the Academy...

Dad turned into the parking lot, and imagine our luck, as we found a spot right next to the front door. How often does that happen? Anyways, once inside, we had to go through the usual security protocol. I emptied the contents of my pockets into the little bowl, and then walked through the scanner. The officer ran his little scanner over me briefly, and then cleared me. Dad then followed suit.

Once we were both through, Dad walked up to the receptionist.

“Officer Peterson is expecting me,” He stated. The lady behind the counter looked in her book.

“Jeffery Narrows?” She asked. Dad then handed her his ID. She looked over, and then handed it back to him. She then looked over at me.

“I'm with him,” I stated, and Dad nodded.

“Officer Peterson is in the gym over that way,” She stated.

“Thank you,” Dad said, and we then walked off in the direction of the gym. We walked down a few corridors, and made a few turns. I could now hear voices in one of the rooms, and Officer Peterson's voice was among them. I guess they were all chatting while waiting for us.

“So when is your friend arriving, Sir?” One Man asked.

“Hopefully soon,” Officer Peterson's voice then answered. We then turned a corner which had a small hall leading into a gym with equipment had been moved up against the walls. It must have been moved to provide as much floor space as possible.

“How about right now,” Dad then said, from the doorway. Officer Peterson jumped a bit, which got a snicker from the Trainees.

“Ah, there you are,” Officer Peterson greeted, and then walked over to us.

“I hope I'm not late,” Dad said, as the two men shook hands.

“Not at all,” Mr. Peterson said, and then turned to his trainees. “And I see you brought Katie with you.”

“I'm just along for the ride,” I said, and I shook his hand also. He chuckled a bit at my comment.

“I thought as much,” He told me, he then turned his attention back to the crowd. “Students, this is my good friend Jeffery Narrows. He will be conducting your hand-to-hand training,” He then explained.

I just stood off to the side, and leaned against a treadmill. I then scanned the Officers in Training. Most of them were guys, but there were a few ladies as well.

Unfortunately for me however, it looked as though the guys all had about six to seven years on me. This meant that they were a bit out of my age group. I just sighed inwardly at the thought a bit. Oh well, at least it was worth a shot.

Dad removed his Jacket, and set it on a piece of weight lifting equipment, as Officer Peterson turned to him.

“Good luck Jeff,” He said. He then stood off in the corner, and allowed my Dad to take center stage. Dad was eyeing his class, as most of them looked like they were wondering what he was going to do to them. Truth be told, I was kinda curious in that respect too.

“Good morning Officers!” Dad then stated to his class.

“Good morning Sir!” the crowd greeted back.

“As you know, my name is Jeffery Narrows, but you can call me Jeff,” Dad said. He then lifted a finger up, and put on a very evil smile. “I'm here to teach you Ladies...how to defend yourselves,” He then snarled. Officer Peterson and I both looked at each other with the same nervous smiles on our faces. Here we go...

I think Jeff won't have much trouble with these guys. The question is will they be able to take it?

Final Part: In this part, Katie watches with amusement as her Father returns to his roots.

As you can imagine, most everyone in attendance wasn't to thrilled with what Dad just called them. Well, to clarify, I should say that the guys didn't look to happy. The couple Ladies who were there just snickered at the men's reactions. (I was one of them of course.)

“So, who here can guess what we're going to learn first?” Dad then asked his class. He wasn't even phased by the groans he had received either. In fact, I think he was hoping for them. “No one?” He then asked. He then turned his attention to me. “Katie, what's the first thing we need to learn?” He asked. I just smirked.

“How to breathe,” I answered.

“Correct, thank you,” Dad said, in a delighted tone, and with a grin on his face.

“But, I know how to breathe,” One Man pointed out. Dad's eyes zeroed in on the Man who spoke, and he walked over to him.

“Mister, right now, you know how to breathe air. I'm going to teach you how to breathe correctly,” Dad explained to him. At this point there was an unofficial contest between me and Officer Peterson: Who was going to burst out laughing first? The Officer-in-training blinked at his teacher.

“What?” He asked. Dad then turned to me again.

“Katie, why is it important that we breathe correctly?” He asked me.

“If you don't breathe correctly, you don't move correctly,” I answered. At this point the rookie turned to Officer Peterson.

“Sir, this is ridiculous!” The Rookie complained. “First he insults us, and now he's telling us that self defense requires breathing...what...correctly?”

“He may have insulted you,” One of the Ladies said, and the rest chuckled a bit. Dad then leered at the man.

“Do you think that you don't belong in my class?” He asked him. The man hesitated a bit, but then gave his answer.

“If this is the way you teach, then no. I don't think I need to breathe a certain way in order to defend myself,” He stated. A fair handful of other guys nodded as if they agreed with him. Dad quirked an eyebrow at him.

“Is that so?” Dad asked him. “I tell you what. I'll make you all a deal,” Dad then put out, and he walked over to the entry way. “If any of you can make it past me, and out that door, then I'll excuse you from the class for your entire training period,” He stated. Naturally the Rookie began to walk towards him.

“Meyers, before you continue, I should inform you of one more thing,” Officer Peterson then said. I think he was trying to save the man from taking a trip to the hospital or something.

“Yes Sir?” Mr. Meyers asked.

“Jeff is a former Seal. For six years he traveled all around the world performing missions that are deemed too dangerous for anyone else,” Officer Peterson said. Mr. Meyers looked back at my Dad a little more wide eyed then before. Dad just quirked an eyebrow at him. He then turned around, and headed back to where he was standing before.

“I'm sorry Sir,” He said. Dad nodded back.

“That's alright. Don't worry about it,” Dad then said. “Let's get to work now.”

* * * *

If you all want to know what goes into this, I'll let you look it up, as it's too convoluted for me to explain. although, here's a quick basic look...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t133qe2S5lo

While dad was busy setting everyone up to do their breathing exorcises, I decided to take my jacket off, and chat with my friends over Facebook on my phone.

“Sir, what was with the 'Ladies' thing earlier?” I then heard Meyers ask.

“It aroused your fighting spirit didn't it,” Dad stated, as he walked around.

“Have you been teaching her?” He then asked. I had a feeling he was talking about me, and I looked up from my phone to see that he was gesturing to me.

“For five years now,” I answered.

“She can kick my ass,” Officer Peterson then added. I chuckled at his comment, and then turned my attention back to my phone, as I had just received a message.

“Is he trying to break them, or teach them?” Linda had asked me, as I was telling them what was happening. I then typed out my response.

“A little of both. He has to break them down, and then rebuild them. If that makes any sense,” I posted, and sent it.

* * * *

At the end of the class that was pretty much all they did. They were sitting there breathing while keeping a steady pace. You have to know this before you can get to the fun stuff. Eventually it was time for us to go.

“Same time tomorrow Gentlemen and Gentlewomen,” Dad said.

“What are we doing tomorrow?” One of the Ladies asked.

“Same thing,” Dad said.

“How long are we doing this for?” Mr. Meyers then asked.

“Fortunately for you, I don't have two months, so we'll have to settle for a week,” Dad answered. He got a couple bewildered looks from that, but no one protested. I put my jacket, and sunglasses back on, and rejoined him. “I want you all to still practice during your off time as well,” Dad then added. “I'll know if you don't.”

* * * *

“So, what did you think?” Dad asked me, as we drove home.

“Oh, I thought it was hilarious,” I said, still grinning. “I was just hoping there would be a few guys who were a bit...younger,” I then confessed.

“Yeah, while they were going through their paces, I spoke with Dale on the subject,” Dad pointed out. “He told me that they have to be twenty one years old to enroll, so yeah,” He said, with a sigh. “I'm sorry if you feel it wasn't worth it.”

“Oh, it was worth it,” I then stated.

“Well, I'm glad about that,” Dad said. “Did you want to join me on a few more?” He then asked.

“Yeah,” I said. I thought it was great fun. I even got to put my own two cents worth in as well. I knew that school days would stop me from going to a few of these classes, but that was okay. Watching my Dad turn these Rookies into Warriors was going to be fun to watch. Join me next time for something no one saw coming.

Sometimes I find Jeff and his martial arts to be some of the best scenes for me, so this last part was really great. Thanks for another amazing story

the start of the next story's coming up in a few minutes.
