As i stood outside of her house in the pouting rain i knew i had been waiting months for this. It had just gone 1am and the light of her study was firmly on, the secondary light of a computer screen also showing as i peered through the window from a nearby bush. This woman had cost me everything. I peered at her for a few more moments, psyching myself up as i could feel the anger and adrenaline begin to rush through my body.
Her name was Lucy and she had been my competitor to a recent opportunity for promotion within the law firm for which we worked. In what i thought would be a professional, fair fight soon changed when she had planted a case on me to be investigated. She had cleared the head manager's personel filing cabinet, emptying the contents into my bag just before i left for home. The following day she raised a suspicion within the team that it was me behind it. I knew it wasnt me, i wouldnt do something so stupid and especially not a few days before the interview.
Sure enough when i was ordered to empty my bag by the manager, Lucy had all the evidence she needed to suggest i was behind it. When i tried to protest, to share my side of the story that i knew nothing about it i was told i was dismissed and to clear my stuff before the end of the day. As if to add spite, she was awarded the promotion as i was clearing my desk. I'll never forget the smug look she gave as she went to receive her applause. I almost fept sick watching her, it was like losing a cup final to me. Whats worse is just before i left she smugly informed me that it was her idea and that she had wanted rid of me for so long. I was furious but it was pointless, after all i had nothing apart from her unrecorded, unwitnessed word that it was her behind it.
Back to the rainy night in question and by now i was climbing the far side of her secluded house. I had spotted an open window of opportunity as i clambered inside and dropped softly onto the bed of what appeared to be a spare bedroom. I stayed still, making sure no one had heard me enter but to my knowledge it was just Lucy who lived here and she was busy working. I made my way silently along her landing, heading towards the room in which the typing as coming from before i paused in the doorway.
I stood and watched her work away, oblivious to my presence as she worked on a large document. The sound of her fingers typing away almost drove me to the point of insanity as my mind flashed back to that fateful day. As i came out of the flashback the rain was hitting the skylight window even harder as if to emphasise the anger and resentment i could feel.
I pulled the gun from my holster, pointing it at the back of her as i found the confidence to make myself known.
"Surprise bitch. I always thought you worked too hard for your own good."
