Legally Bound

Trial briefs are presented at trial to resolve a disputed point of evidence.
Legal briefs are used as part of arguing a pre-trial motion in a case or proceeding.
Merit briefs (or briefs on the merits) refers to briefs on the inherent rights and wrongs of a case, absent any emotional or technical biases
Amicus briefs refer to briefs filed by persons not directly party to the case. These are often groups that have a direct interest in the outcome.
Appellate briefs refer to briefs that occur at the appeal stage.
Memorandum of law may be another word for brief, although that term may also be used to describe an internal document in a law firm in which an attorney attempts to analyze a client's legal position without arguing for a specific interpretation of the law.
IRAC Case Briefs Are usually a one page review done by a paralegal or attorney, ultimately used by the attorney to find previously decided cases by an Appellate court, in State or Federal Jurisdiction, which show how the courts have ruled on earlier similar cases in court.

"Oh my gosh but this is BORING!" Law student Elle was reading through the barest beginnings of her very first law text book. "Is this really what studying law is about? I'm going to put my eye out!"

She and Emmett were sitting on the couch together studying. Well, Emmett was sitting. Elle was stretched out, clad only in one of his white dress shirts and a pair of black silk thong panties, laying across half of the couch with her feet near his thigh.

Her boyfriend looked annoyed. "Really? You're not giving up already, are you Elle? You dreamed about this for the last year of high school and now you're already hating it?"

She laughed at him and poked him in the ribs with her toes. "Quite being such a pain in the ass. This is BORING! Isn't it? Admit it!" She poked him again.

"Do that again and I'll...I'll..."

"You'll what?" She poked him again.

"Stop it, dammit! You little spoiled brat! Study on your own or I'll...I'll..."

"What? You'll WHAT?"

"I'll tie your ass up and MAKE you study!"

She laughed at him and poked him again.

Disgusted, Emmett stood up and opened the drawher in the bureau that was just across the room from the couch. When he turned around he had a huge fist full of ropes. Elle's eyes grew big and she squealed in delight.

"I am NOT going to read this shit anymore." And with that, she threw down the book.

In a flash, Emmett was on top of her and sat on her stomach. She started slapping him all over his body but he was able to easily overpower her and captured her wrists in one of his large hands. With the other hand he loosened one of the coils of rope and started wrapping it tightly around her thin limbs. Elle squealed and fought him more.

"You're really tying me up! I can't believe it!"
"You're damn right I'm tying you up! I'm going to teach you some manners and some respect. And then you're going to learn the text for today's assignment.

He turned around and pulled one of her ankles up to her thigh. Deftly he wrapped the next rope around those two limbs, frog-tying her securely. The other leg was quickly bound in a similar fashion.

Then he took a fourth rope and looped it between her wrists. Pulling her arms above her head and then over the arm of the couch, he stretched her out and secured the line to the back leg of the couch. She could scarcely move.

"I won't be able to hold the book with my arms tied like this, you know. How do you expect me to..."

He clapped his hand over her mouth. "Not one word more, you impudent child!" He took his handkerchief out of his pocket and stuffed it in her mouth. Then he took the final rope that lay there and wrapped it around her head and between her teeth in a very effective rope gag.

"Shut. Up. Got it? Shut up. And listen."

Emmet sat on the couch next to her and opened her book. He read it to her aloud:
