President for one day.

Postby Chris12 » Tue Apr 03, 2012 1:08 pm

If you where president for one day and where able to make one decission that couldn't be overturned what would you do? Invade the country that you don't like? would you sent all those annoying conservatives/liberals/facists/pupulists/whatever on a nice cruise to the bottem of the ocean or force your entire male population to wear dresses? You'd be able to do anything so what would it be?Doesn't have to be president of America though, the leader of any country will suffice.

Since things in my country are handled well enough i really don't know what i'd do....perhaps i would sent some state assasins loose on the first person that annoys me.

Anyway with no idea for my own country i'd take Obama's job for a day. My first act would be to force a European/dutch healthcare and social security system down the nations troath,......i'd probably be lynched once my day as president is over though

I wouldn't touch that with a 10 foot pole. Maybe with an 11 or 12 foot pole, but not with a 10 foot pole.

Let's just say that Attila the Hun would be proud.

I don't think you could force any really unpopular or imaginative legislation into law as president of any country, as the powers of a president are far short of that of an outright dictator in the mold of Fidel Castro or Adolf Hitler.
If I WAS such a dictator however, one thing I'd do that might not get me lynched in a popular revolt afterward would be to greatly increase the budget for NASA's unmanned space probes (so that the solar system could be more thoroughly exploredand understood) and deep space telescopes (I want to find an alien Earth before I die!). Even that would, as Carl Sagan liked to put it, cost than than the average cost over-run for a single new weapons system for the military.

No, let’s stick to more important matters:
1) Ban caravans from the roads except motorways between 06:00 hrs and 22:00 hrs every day
2) Make it compulsory to throw a brick through the windscreen of any vehicle whose car alarm sounds for more than five seconds
3) Jail all wheel clampers
4) Employ people to collect all the food related litter and empty it onto the floor of the nearest McDonalds or Pizza joint.
5) Ban the sale of alcohol at motorway services.

I'm unsure what this refers to.
Is this the same as what we Americans call tail-gaters, where one moving vehicle follows the one ahead of it too closely?

I should have written "wheel clampers" and have now corrected it.
Wheel clampers are modern day pirates who pounce on unsuspecting, incorrectly parked motorists, imobilise their cars and charge extortionate and rapidly escalating sums for thier recovery. Basically, they are licenced thugs working in a very poorly regulated industry.

Ah, I know what you mean. Where I live at least, those heavy metal clamps are called 'boots' and adminstered by the parking dept.

Yes, we call it the "Denver Boot" and it's used by private "security" firms.

AFAIK only the police dept (usually the parking division) can legally use the things in the US; NOT private security firms. But yeah, the things are not popular around here (or anywhere, I imagine) either.
So, okay, if I can have my increased NASA budget then as president I'll totally ban parking boots too!!! :big:

We have them here, but they are only used when the booted vehicle's plate has been run, and it comes back that the vehicle has five or more unpaid parking tickets. It does get the owner's attention. The local police (and civilian employees of the police department) are the only ones authorized to boot a vehicle.

On the other side, there was a towing service that ran a scam near a major league ball park. The owner's wife and her brother had a "Parking $10" sign printed up, and covered up a "No Parking On This Lot" sign. They could get about 20 cars on the small lot, then pull down their sign, and the towing service owner would bring his truck, an haul the cars away, then charge the owners between $200 and $400 to get them back.

The three of them got caught when one of the victims of the scam parked a block or so away, and took a nice set of photos with a digital camera equipped with a 500 millimeter telephoto lens. He sued the shit out of the scammers, won the case with punitive damages awarded, and the pics were turned over to the local district attorney for a criminal prosecution.

The scammers went to jail. Got five year sentences, four years suspended. He, his wife, and her brother were stripped of everything they owned, save for their primary residences and appliances (stove and refrigerator) and two cars. His towing business and four tow trucks were sold at auction to pay back the people he had scammed.

(Gawd, I love a story with a happy ending.) :D
