I prefer rope for numerous reasons:
1. more flexible than cuffs and more secure than tape
2. can be reused; tape generally cannot be reused.
3 no lost keys to worry about, so easier (for captor) to remove than cuffs with no keys
4. to me, cuffs lack a personal touch; they feel the same no matter who cuffs you. On the other hand, rope ties vary from person to person and so have a personal touch I enjoyed immensely.
5. Ropes are WAY more versatile than cuffs and can go anywhere on the body; cuffs can only go around wrists (and ankles if they are slender enough or cuffs are the extra large type made for ankles). Tape is also versatile, but tape can only be used once and is less durable and less difficult for a determined person to get out of.
6. Any fool can use cuffs, but it takes a skilled Tugger (IOW someone who knows what they are doing) to tie a person well with rope.
7 Ropes don't pull the hair out the way tape can and does.
The only downsides to rope:
1. It takes longer to get on or off. But then again, for me getting leisurely and carefully tied is part of the fun!!! In which case cuffs are too damned quick!

2. Ropes can eventually cut off the circulation if badly done, but so can cuffs. Tape at least is less likely to do this unless twisted around too much.
Dare to be different... and make a difference.
