As scouts, we often looked for excuses to tie up our friends. Not that we liked being tied up, but we did like being the ones doing the tying. (Well, there were a couple of us that liked being tied, mainly so they could show off how good they were at freeing themselves.) But things like wearing a split uniform to scout meetings, or borrowing an item of clothing, would get you tied (and usually, gagged).
Sometimes, just silly or stupid things got you tied, like showing up at a gathering of three or four friends, wearing a sweat shirt, when everyone else was wearing regular button-up shirts.
It was considered a game of sorts, not a "punishment," and more than a few times, someone would be tied up for the "crime" of wearing a pair of corduroys, when everyone else was wearing blue jeans.
