Christians believe God created the universe, and scientists believe that the Big Bang created the unvirse. Why dont they make a compromise and say God created the Big Bang?

So, the Mayan calendar ends in 2012. Big deal My calendar ended last Friday. I was afraid, until it suddenly occurred to me... Hold on, I’ll just buy next year’s. Saved! (Whew, that was a close call!)

watch it sarah you almost destroyed the world... as for this theory its just another Y2K scare, nothing is gonna happen and all the people who believed in it are gonna be like "oh we were just kidding didn't you know?" the fact is while all those people are buying survival gear it'll let me get my last minute Christmas shopping down without having to deal with the rush, so actually we should be thanking the Mayans for giving us more parking spaces next Christmas :)

There happens nothing more than that what every day may happen. Niburu wasn't seen last summer and is still not visable, so the most theoris are wrong.

The worst disaster that will happen because of the end of the Mayan calendar was that Godawful movie that was foised on a gulllible, sensationalist public last year!
Besides, Nostradamus predicted the world would end in 3797 or somthing like that. So we've got plenty of time!!!

Did I miss something here? Why is subtracting 1785 (or ANY number) of any significance (other than to come up with the number 2012 that is)?

Who, and why would anyone care about the end of the world... you'd probably all die before that anyway... and as for the end of the world they always have a new year... 1999 they said 2000 the Computers would be are demise.... now it's 2012... Hmmm.... Strange... after new years 2012 they will say it's 2030 or something... It's always Just an end of the world Scare... Chances are more in favor of gething hit by a bus then the world ending...

That's true enough as far as it goes, and certainly we've had numerous end of the world scares since the beginnings of Christianity (if not sooner). The Millerite scare in 1841, the Halley's Comet scare in 1910, the so-called Jupiter Effect in 2001, the long years of the Cold War, and so on. They will undoubtedly continue; in fact, 2030 IS one often posited date because it'd supposedly be 2000 years after the Crucifixion of Christ!
Some day the world will end - when the sun expands and burns up the Earth. There's probably no avoiding that. Some day much sooner civilization may end as well, but though it is likely within this century if current trends continue asthey are this is NOT inevitable. There is no Fate but what we make for ourselves (and one another). But Humanity had better wise up soon; the longer we wait to act the harder it will be to avert disasters similar to the Book of Revelations and the Malhusan prophecies (without the supernatural elements or the divine intervention of the first).
2012? No way. But by 2100? May be (the end of civilization though; not the whole world), if we don't change our ways.

The Mayan calendar runs on things that have cycles, these cycles end after a while and a new one begins, just as your calendar begins on January 1. The original story that a planet called Nibiru was supposed to collide with earth on that date, this theory was however disproven since a planet would have appeared to our instruments by now if it was going to hit in about 2 years. After that, doomsday sayers started to get desperate, finding any story to make it sound like the world was going to end, and that they would invest in their patented years worth of freeze dried food boxes and other things. Suckers began believing this crap, and started to get scared, everyone from Lil Wayne (a pretty big bimbo, he says the world is going to end because a black man and his wife are trying to run for president) to George Lucas, who thinks there is going to be exponential seismic activity, which is impossible.

It is the media, a scare like this could not have happened 20 years ago, because the Internet, filled with easy to prey on suckers, didn't exist.

Funny enough, even the Mayan calendar didn't end on that date, they have events stretched to 4772, when they are going to have a massive celebration for their king.

In the end, there is no creditable evidence linking 2012 to any kind of major event, except if you count a new president for the USA, and most likely a few regular natural disasters that always happen every year.

I hope i helped

The world ends every second. A new one openes up every second. With new emotions, new paths to choose...and old doors closing down.
As for 2012- well it will be a year, not more, not less. At least the year2000 hype had some factual basis (as some might know, I am working in the computer indutry for over a decade...and there really *were* some issues with crossing that border, but nothing apocalyptic.)

Cheers

The inability of science to explain the origination of the singularity responsible for the big bang is what cements my belief in some higher power. Not organized religion, but some power or force beyond the comprehension of man. It makes my head hurt to consider a point of infinite smallness and infinite mass containing all the matter of the universe, as well as the fabric of space-time. Wild. I can't imagine such a thing coming about by mere chance.

I believe our world will be hit by a massive solar flare like in the movie KNOWING but I have my doubts about 2012 being the time. Look at Y2K and all the hype on that. Besides, What are we going to do about it even if it were a fact? As for science and creation...the big bang could not have happened without first that there was a beginning. Organized religion is conventionalized standardized religion which to me makes it false as we all know standardizing and conventionalizing always alters truth by saying this is how it is and that's that whether it's right or wrong .LOL Yeah I know...Whoop-ti-ya-ya! Right?
