Part One.Delicate fingers quickly tapped away at the keyboard of an old computer. Kathryn Pierce was sat at her mother's work desk, using it to speak to her friends on the social networking site, Facebook.
She ran her hand through chest length brown hair, slowly blinking her matching hazel eyes. The young girl was tired, about to get ready for bed when a new chat window popped up.
Kieran Little: hey
Kathryn had to read the name several times over to finally recognise it. Kieran was a boy, also seventeen, who went to same school, though the two had rarely ever spoken. She sighed, it was already after midnight and she was up early the next day.
It took a moment but she decided she'd answer him.
Kathryn Pierce: Hiya.
A reply came almost immediately.
Kieran Little: could you plz help me out with work
Kathryn Pierce: What work?
Kieran Little: english
She rubbed her eyes. Kieran was quite popular among the girls and his male friends at school. He wasn't bad looking and was well known for his gorgeous bright blue eyes. But another thing he was well known for was poor work in class. Very poor in fact. It looked as though he was finally making a decision to try and get at least a bit better.
Kathryn Pierce: Is it the essay we had to write on the poem?
Kieran Little: yh, ill speak to you about it tomorrow in schol
Kathryn groaned. He could barely spell or use correct grammar, and she was supposed to help him with an essay? It wasn't all that big of a deal, though. She was pretty used to helping her classmates out, what with always getting high marks and such. But still, it would be rather awkward with someone she'd practically never spoken to.
The next day at school, Kathryn put off approaching Kieran, but when the two almost bumped into each other in the hallway it was impossible to avoid it off any longer.
“So, you said you needed help?” She asked, pulling down the back of her black skirt.
“Yeah,” he mumbled, twiddling around with one of his dark purple coloured locks. “If you wouldn't mind.”
Kathryn shook her head. “It's no bother, do you want to do it at lunchtime?”
“Actually,” he chuckled, “I have detention then.”
Kathryn pressed her palm up to her face, already losing patience with him. “Then tomorrow?”
“Dentist.”
“Then when the hell were you expecting me to help you?” She shouted in his face, puffing her chest out.
“Calm down, yeah,” he grinned, waving his hands at her. “Would after school be all right? Just at my place. I figured with us only living a couple of blocks apart you'd be all right to just walk home?”
Kathryn hesitated some and began to fiddle with her hair. It had been placed into two pigtails at either side of her head, tied with red ribbons into bow shapes.
“I know it'll be dark, but I'll walk you, okay?” He pushed further, sounding a bit desperate.
“Okay, okay.” She gave in. She couldn't wait for the day to be over so she could just look forward to doing her own thing. She'd always help anyone with anything to do with school work when they were in need of it, although would never admit to being quite reluctant to do so.
The last class ended and she followed Kieran out from the school after answering a few questions from her curious friends.
'As if I'd ever date such an idiot!' Kathryn thought angrily to herself, ignoring the whispers of many eyes around them.
Suddenly, she felt an arm slithering around her shoulder, resulting in several gasps and swiftly silencing the whisperers.
“What the hell are you doing?” She screamed, twisting away from him and punching the poor boy in the side of his face. The watching eyes grew larger.
“Chill, chill, baby!” He laughed. “I was only fooling around, I thought it would be funny what with everyone's saying, yeah?” He spoke, clutching his right cheek which was beginning to turn a reddish colour.
'What a long night this is going to be!'
