A terrible situation and tragic conclusion.
I am glad that most of the public discussion here has not devolved into arguments about terrorists, Muslims and refugees.
This was a creep acting alone and using politics and religion to act on his own agenda. The main debate is over why this creature was out on bail while facing rape and accessory to murder charges... but that is a complex issue as well.

What's even sadder to me is that other story about a woman who apparently killed her own children and then made it look like she's been stabbed by an intruder.

I'm pretty sure Americans didn't invent child murder.
