I think I have a problem...

Postby SolidSnickerdoodle » Sun Apr 10, 2016 1:44 pm

Like many of you, I enjoy surfing the web for bondage content from time to time.

I used to just hop on and search for whatever I wanted, but then stuff started getting removed. DailyMotion and MyVideo suffered a bondage purge a few years back and YouTube has become notorious for flagging new tie up videos on the grounds of "inappropriate content". In an effort to curb this loss and to ensure the videos that I particularly liked remained available for view, I began to download content.

It started out as a few videos and photos here and there, mainly consisting of my absolute favorite pieces of content that I didn't want to lose. Stuff like certain YouTube videos and photos of bondage models that I liked. But it has since grown into something more.

A while back I downloaded a chrome extension that allows me to download videos off of almost any website without having to go through their process. I also installed some bulk-image download software, allowing me to download whole photos galleries at a time, without having to right click and "Save as" individual photos. This has all made it very easy to download massive amounts of bondage content at a time, effectively kick starting my collection.

I've since developed an extensive library of folders and sub folders, going levels deep and sorted by various categories. The broadest folder and all that it encompasses is hidden in a locked folder that requires a password to open, and the files within do not show up in the search results bar of the control panel. As of today, the size of this folder is 132 GB. So, yeah. Something has to change.

It's definitely served its use. Videos and photos have since been removed while still remaining safely in storage for me. But it's getting a bit out of hand. I keep telling myself that I'm going to go through and scale the collection way back, deleting everything that I don't absolutely want, but whenever I try I can't bring myself to do it. I'm always imagining that if I delete something, then I'll forget the name of the video, model, or whatever, and never be able to find it again. Call it nostalgia.

I'm not talking about deleting everything. I don't think I would ever do that. I'm just talking about doing some Spring cleaning, and perhaps some steps I can take in the future to keep thing from getting so far out of hand.

So, does anybody have any ideas? I figured I can't exactly go to any one else for this type of advise because they wouldn't understand, so I'm asking you guys.

I'm not very techie (English undertatement) so I'm sorry if this is an ignorant suggestion but what about using an external storage device?
It would need regular backing up, of course, (Personal experience - sad story) so perhaps two devices.

He's saying he thinks he has too much. Store them on a mediafire account and share the link on here. Then everyone has access and you can feel comfortable deleting whatever you'd like.

I think a lot of us have the same issue. I just became more picky about what I download, I used to download absolute everything I even slightly liked and then never look at a lot of it.
I started off deleting stuff I had not even looked at for ages so even though like you I felt that sort of nostagia for it, you gotta be a bit rational about it. I began deleting one or two things at a time, whatever I liked the least. Every now and then I'd delete a couple more things. It became easier to delete stuff as I kept going. But in terms of storage space it doesnt seem like a huge issue, 1TB external drives are common now at decent prices.

I really don't see what these two things have in common. How does sharing all his videos make it easier to delete them?

Anyway, I have a similar problem, though it has taken me over 10 years to compile my collection. I have 3 cd wallets full of dvds, and am on my 6th 32GB usb drive. These are all videos, no pics. I look at it every now and then and think at the rate I watch them, it'll take me the rest of my life to go through my whole collection, and I'm still collecting! I understand what you mean entirely about being unwilling to get rid of even videos that are mediocre. I've deleted a handful in the last year or two, and even that I was on the fence about doing.

So, being in the same boat as you (or at least in my own boat on the same river), I have no real advice. On a positive note, its fun to reflect on the 13 year old me just discovering bondage. He would be so happy just to watch one or two bondage videos, if he knew of the collection to come he'd likey fall to his knees and cry in ecstasy.

Never store ANYTHING on your hard drive that could or might prove to be implicating and/or embarrassing. That's why they make USB thumb drives.

Yeah, get some thumb drives and just put them on there.
But overall, that sounds like the kind of problem we WANT to have!

Also guilty. My bondage folder is 200 GB and counting. I trim the low-quality stuff from YouTube and Myvideo and such, but I have some very big full-resolution videos that I feel like I just can't let go of, particularly since former bondage video treasure troves have been getting taken down lately.

I have considered uploading them onto a file-sharing site, or distributing them using torrents since they're P2P and can't get taken down.

My dream "bondage storage system" (and I say this as a computer science student): Each video is tagged with metadata, like type of gag, restraint, actresses. Clips are automatically associated with a single "source," with the highest quality portions automatically pieced together. For example, FMConcepts videos are often uploaded scene-by-scene, but together they constitute an entire movie. I often find myself with duplicates because I have the whole movie, but it's 480p while I have a single scene that's 720p.

I've been wondering if I could hack this together with some sort of media library software but I haven't looked into it. Meanwhile my collection keeps growing. :tied:

No need for expensive thumb drives that die in two years and can be misplaced, just encrypt it. You'll keep it safe from your household and the NSA.
Shiny silver tape from ear to ear, it's the only way.

That's just it though. I know I don't have the largest collection by any means, but when it gets to the point of having trouble keeping it organized and not being able to watch it all, I feel like I need to scale back. I don't want to be one those people who have one terabyte of data or multiple external hard drives.

Why not? What's wrong with that? :P
