Everybody's got some; those annoying things people do that make you just want to slam your head in a car door. Well, this is a chance to alleviate that aggravation. Let it all out.

People saying, "I could care less" instead of "I couldn't care less"


I have to think on it a bit but Yes!. The people saying that are just flat out wrong. It means the opposite of what they are trying to say. I think John Cleese of all people made a short video about it.

Pet Peeves:
Politicians who use the phrase "I'm not a scientist" to excuse their profound ignorance of science and then smugly declaring that science must be wrong about a topic (usually climate change). Or, for that matter, anyone ignorant of science who thinks his/her opinion about a science-related topic (climate change, evolution, the relationship between vaccines and autism) is as good as a trained scientist.
Politicians who pretend spirituality to pander to the religiously bigoted.
People who claim the bible is the ultimate standard of morality and therefore condemn homosexuality but not other things the Bible condemns such as eating pork or lobster.
The tea party in general, who i consider to be the most spoiled and catered-to group in 21st century America.
People who think their right to own guns transcends all other rights of people to be free of violence.
People who think anyone who disagrees with them MUST be brainwashed; especially those who freely use terms/phrases like 'drink the kool-aid'
People who insist on having "Creation Science" be taught in school classrooms on an equal basis with evolution.
Politicians who fight the ACA while having a health-care system of their own and with no idea what to replace the ACA with.
Rigid-minded conservatives who think all liberals must be stupid or morally corrupt.
Internet trolls.
Donald Trump, and anyone who thinks he would actually be a good president.
Kim Clark and anyone else who actually thinks her religious views trumps the law.
Anyone who treats anyone else they don't know with anything less than simple courtesy for whatever reason.

And that's just for starters.

Damn... this is a lot more brutal than what I said. I am inclined to agree with you though, especially that bit on condemning homosexuality but not any of the other things that are forbidden.

Yes, I always found it hypocritical in the extreme that for every verse condemning homosexuality there are a dozen which condemn adultery, and yet practically no one commits hate crimes against adulterers. we even give it a wink and a nod when it's a celebrity who does it. Even when we scorn the President for doing it (Bill Clinton, John Kennedy), we don't put them through the wringer like we do a person who marries into their own gender. if we followed the Bible strictly, everyone who jerks off or has pre-marital sex would be liable to be stoned to death! Some moral guide!!!

Very little bothers me any more, but I do have an aversion to those that cannot discuss their differences, political or otherwise, without resorting to overt insults, vulgarities, and just crude behavior in general.

I also don't like TV and movie depictions of captives, tied so poorly, that a four year old could escape with very little effort.

I don't like these things, but I don't worry about them. Crude jerks can be ignored, channels can be changed, and life is far too short to get bent out of shape over small shit.

The governor of my state is a lot like Trump; only with even fewer redeeming qualities. At least Trump has a sense of humor. He'll need it too if he ever wins. We'll all need one in that case.
Godwin's Law notwithstanding, I still say Trump is the closest thing to Adolf Hitler that modern society allows.

A small pet peeve of mine is that Americans frequently believe everyone on the internet is American and act the part. ''we'' and ''our'' are common words when American matters are discussed whether its in the jump in the fire section here or on gamesites where people wonder how I am able to play games already out for month's in half the world.

Well, the thing is it is kind of hard to think otherwise when (1) no other medium allows someone (in the USA anyway) to interact with so many people from outside the USA so easily from the comfort of their own home, (2), most people in most places don't identify where they are from, (3) the Internet was invented here and the USA is a very big place compared to anywhere in Europe, (4) without visual cues, it is quite easy to forget that whoever you are writing to doesn't just live down the street from you or something. It's actually normal human psychology ( think! :worried: ); at least when you live in a sprawling country like the USA. It's different in any European country, where the cultural differences are probably literally forced onto your attention every minute you're online.
Yes, I'm guilty as hell myself; I freely admit it. Sometimes when I see something written in poor language I don't assume it's a fairly smart person struggling with a second language but a moron with poor command of his first and only language. Hopefully though it hasn't been that obvious from me, though I realize I'm socially very awkward in any case.

When Americans think they invented the internet. I think Sir Tim Berners-Lee might have something to say about that. And he GAVE the idea away to us (All of us, not just Americans).

The British invented the Postal system. As a result, the British are the only people who do not have to place their country of origin on their postage stamps (i think sometimes they do now, but afaik they are not obligated to). The original developer of the Internet may not have been American (I'll have to google that one), but Americans are the ones who made it take off. As a result of this, the US is the only country that does not have to place country of origin on email or website addresses (whereas the French have to type Fr and the British use UK I believe).
Just as Columbus gets the credit of 'discovering' America instead of Leif Erickson 500 years before him or tje ancestors of the Inuits and 'Indians' countless thousands of years before that. Credit for some great thing virtually always goes not to the actual developer but to the one who first makes something well known/popular; in the case of scientists, the first who publishes a paper about said discovery. If they're the same person, great; if not, c'est la vie.
I could cite a good number of scientific discoveries / technological inventions where the credit went to the popularizer rather than the one who did all the hard work. Thomas Edison is notorious for this - especially in regards to ripping of Nikola Tesla; this is why Edison held so many patents in his lifetime. In the case of the Internet, that evidently goes to an American (though NOT Al Gore).

I dread to think what would have happened if someone of ANY nationality, who was not as altruistic as Tim B-L, fulfilled his role. What we use for free could have made some capitalist **** a fortune.

It s often been said that someone was so far to the left, they met the right wing coming back.
Clinton is NOWHERE NEAR that far left.

Far left and far right are not that far apart. They meet at 6:00. Consider the political spectrum as the unrolled face of a clock:

6 . . . 7 . . . 8 . . . 9 . . . 10 . . . 11 . . . 12 . . . 1 . . . 2 . . . 3 . . . 4 . . . 5 . . . 6

Most of us are in the center - between 11:15 and 12:45. Hard left would be 10:30 - 11:15; hard right, at 12:45 - 1:15. Right wing fringe at 3:00; left wing fringe at 9:00 Socialism and communism would run from 7:00 to 8:00; Fascism and Naziism, between 4:00 and 5:00. 6:00 is anarchy. Other factors or "ism's" can be plugged in as your opinion dictates.

Granted, it's simplistic, but it's workable.

(And the quotes from Hitler and Hillary, are matters of public record. Then again, it was Hitler that gave Eisenhower the idea for the Interstate Highway System, by constructing the Autobahn prior to World War II.)

I'm not sure that Hitler and Clinton were thinking of the same thing at all; regardless of how similarly their quotes are worded. In fact I doubt it very much. Hitler is known to have had a much stronger view of 'State' than Clinton probably does. And taking quotes out of context and assuming that makes the two identical in their overall beliefs is highly disingenuous at best. I do not like Clinton all that much myself, but saying she is more similar to Hitler than Trump based on these quotes is to be so unobservant and prejudiced as to be alarming.
Unlike Clinton for example, Trump is most definitely racist, most definitely a chauvinist, considerably more elitist, and would if given the chance run this country as if he were a feudal lord and all of the rest of us his serfs.... a trend that is becoming all the more likely as the already-wealthy continue to hoard the remaining wealth of the citizenry to themselves. If this continues then in the end we'd become as much an oligarchy as the Soviet Union was.

Good Lord... we have too many enemies as it is. He'd probably start a second war with Mexico just for starters, and make Canada build a fortified barrier along the border to keep US out!!!
