As some have pointed out, it's quite risky. Choking to death is a real danger there. Mind you, it's not that this will hapen one out of ten times or so- but the danger is there, and is it really worth the risk?
What if the stomach "throws up" some of it's contents? This does not have to be food, it can be liquid. This can quickly lead to problems, even if your mouth is "just" taped.
And keep in mind- most people don't really act rational when suddenly woken up from sleep. So if i.e. your mouth stuffing starts to clog your windpipe and you wake up already half choked, are you sure you will act rational enough, don't panic and pull the stuffing out?
IMHO, it is too dangerous to do, especially alone.
