H1N1

Well your preparations are not wrong...but basically, the swine flu is a hoax.
Don't get me wrong- a lot of people have died of it, even more have been infectet.
BUT (and that's a big BUT) *each* year the ordinary flu takes more victims. And not just a few more...
The swine flu is basically the same as the "normal" flu (a lot of medical professors not in the employment of the pharmaceutic industry say that, too)- the virus mutates every year and every year some new medicaments have to be developed.
The one thing this flu panic archived...in many countries, the government has now taken over the research cost and guarantees the buying of the medicamentation. So the industry has successfully handed over the buissiness risk from their research onto the general public.

And do not overestimate it. The swine flu really is nothing special- just another flu variant, like it comes every year. Just with a plakative name this time.

Actually swine flu is caused by a variant of H1N1, so even the title is misleading :P H1N1 has caused seasonal flus in people for over 100 years.

But I agree that it's mostly remarketed flu. Viruses evolve just like their computer counterparts. The flu has always been dangerous but nobody paid much attention to it because it's a rather common disease. Swine flu is basically a slightly different and very hyped flu that reminds us of bacon.

Watching the news here in the United States you'd think swine flu is an unstoppable force going to wipe out humanity. Then again, they have a tendency to do that with everything. The suggestions given here are good ideas, but I'm with Fesselfan in thinking this is largely overblown and a media-made story. Bird flu, SARS, mad cow disease-- anyone remember those names? They were basically supposed to be the next bubonic plague as well. Where are they now?

I can see why in certain places like Mexico City where they'd take some of the serious precautions being suggested, and it's always a good idea to be vigilant against diseases, but overall it seems to be a greatly exaggerated phenomenon.

There is also such a thing as being TOO sterlized. You're going to run into viruses. It's a fact of life.
