A Most Special Christmas --- alone

How I am never alone on Christmas:

Some years ago I was on a diving vacation in Hurgada, Egypt over the Christmas holiday. Hurgada is a small fishing town on the Red Sea which also has numerous dive operations.
The hotel was built near the edge of the Red Sea. From the lobby to very highly polished and wide marble walkways extended over 100 m to the sand they were separated by a well manicured garden with a large obelisk set at its beginning.

The Christmas music was being provided by a very well played full Irish harp which gave a new life to many of the older Christmas songs.

I left the lobby and strolled down this beautiful walkway towards the sea. There wasn't another person out. It was as though I was beginning to have the entire world to myself. As I gazed into the sky I had never seen so many stars so clearly. There was no wind and other than the harp music drifting on the ether, there was no noise. The further down the walkway I got the brighter the stars seemed to be. As I reached the sand of a large beach I noticed again, I was totally alone. I crossed the sand and stopped when the warm waters of the Red Sea gently were lapping at my feet.

The sea was totally flat as though it'd changed into a large black mirror reflecting the Majesty of all the stars above. I noticed my watch which indicated it was 2 min. to midnight on Christmas Eve. In another 2 min. I would be spending Christmas by myself. As I gazed across the Red Sea, the moon was rising, almost full, over the mountains in the far distance. The sea was so still that the crystal image of the moon stabbed through the dark of the water and stopped directly at my feet.

As if that wasn't amazing enough, I was able to determine the moon was rising over the direction of Bethlehem. The clock struck 12: Christmas Day was here. With the harp in the distance gently playing familiar Christmas carols, the stars shining forth in a celestial brilliance and the brightest lights of the night coming from Bethlehem directly to my feet as a warm waters of the Red Sea gently caressed them, changed me forever.

God's presence and his handiwork can be seen all around us, if we simply take the time to look and open our hearts to what peace there may be found.

Regardless of your religious orientation, peace and the miracles are always all around us. May you find yours this holiday season.

Aloha, cheers

Very well-written, Tony2. Very poignant. Aloha to you, also.

I am Athestic in my orientation but what you says does speak on a personal level. The earth is a rather marvelous gem in our solar system and even though it's just a pale blue dot in the grand scheme of the universe once does have to admire how Mother Nature has crafted this planet over the course of billions of years and when the human race is longer on this planet be it by destruction or we leave to expand to the stars nature will come back and reclaim the lands we took from her and make them beautiful once again.
