Hello, ny name is KP, and I'm a Eurovision addict

Postby KP Presents » Thu May 24, 2012 6:40 am

I can't help myself. Against all my myriad tastes in music, both good and questionable, and all common good sense, at or around this time very year I find myself sitting down in front of the television, with a tipple of choice (used to be Mackeson's but these days more likely to be a nice Rioja) and allow my brain to turn into mush watching musical abominations, and the occasional good tune.

Please, if you are like me, ignore the shame and admit it. After all, how can you resist the lure of singing Russian grannies and Jedward? You knwo you want to, you know you should, but the pull is too strong...

Every year I say that there isn't a chance in hell that I will watch it.

Every year this claim lasts all of five minutes.

I'd rather watch football, and that is really saying something.

Admittedly, the quality of woman taking part, quite often in extremely tight/revealing clothing, dancing about with a lot of enthusiasm to an awful song makes it worthwhile. And the sarcastic commentary is always a plus. Though I preferred the bold Terry Wogan doing it.

i don't really care much about the Eurovision song contest as most of the songs are far away from my taste in music. but i have to admit there is a few songs that i enjoyed from the show.
my personal favorite must by no doubt be Hard Rock Hallelujah by Lordi.

but there is one thing never will understand about the Eurovision song constest.
how the hell did this song become the most popular song ever in the entire freaking show???

I can't say it interested me all that much but i still ended up watching it tonight.

The top 10 of tonight dissapointed me a bit actually and no, it wasn't because the Netherlands didn't make it(i wouldn't even put us there) but i didn't find many of the top 10 very deserving.

I agree with everything everyone has said so far (except skybird.... no, football is definitely lower on the must-watch scale).
To me, watching Eurokitsch is like eating that second piece of cake – you know you shouldn’t but you do.

Although I am generally in favour of watching TV in bondage, on this occasion I must disagree. Eurovision just isn't eurovision unless you get the lyrics up on the screen and sing along at full volume in languages you can barely speak xD

Now, I agree the awfulness is it's charm. I'm pretty sure one guy represented three different countries.

I don't think I could ever go to those levels. Though I find that lots of alcohol makes the watching experience so much better.

I didn't realise that alcohol was optional in the viewing of Eurovision. . ? xD

There are several Eurovision drinking games in existence, and alcohol has been an essential part of the viewing pleasure for years. As a student, my tipple of choice was Gold Label Barley Wine - I personally prefer a nice Rioja these days

I find alcohol to be an essential. It allows me to appreciate what I am watching that little bit more. Or just get pissed to the extent that the freak shows on stage make more sense.

Unfortunately, 'My Lovely Horse' ruined EVERY Irish Eurovision entry for me. Nothing will ever match that.

That is the Father Ted equivalent of the last episode of Blackadder Goes Forth to me - sheer perfection...

Father Ted is pretty much the only program where any episode has a strong case of being the best one. Though Eurovision is fantastic. And let's not forget Father Dick Byrne's entry.

Although not as good, there was a BBC Scotland comedy show called The High Life, starring Alan Cumming and Siobhan Redmond, that did a Eutovision show as well.

Quite relevant today as well. Ireland select Ted and Dougal because they can't afford to host another contest, and then you have stories that Spain can't afford to host, and how much the Greek financial minister was worried when they scored some early points.

Postby Chris12 » Fri Jun 01, 2012 1:04 pm

Oh, Greece shouldn't be to worried about hosting it should they have one. After all they can afford it...or rather they can afford it with our money!
