My name is James. At the time of this story, I was 16. My best friend (and unprofessed crush) is Samantha (15). Her best friend (who was not me, unfortunately) was Casey (14). We all went to the same school together, so we were all friends, but we'd never visited each other's houses. In fact, we'd never intentionally met outside of school. I'd seen Casey at the grocery store my family goes to a couple times, so I know she lives near me, but I didn't have any idea where Samantha lived.
It was the Friday before Spring break, and all of my friends had plans; going out of town; spending the week at their respective aunts; avoiding yours truely, I don't know, and I didn't really care. All I knew was that I was going to be bored out of my friggin' mind all week. Toward the end of the day, I decided to head down to the library to pick out some books to keep me occupied. Just as I was picking up a Harry Potter, I saw someone walk up to me out of the corner of my eye. I turned and saw
. "Samantha! What's up?"
She was smiling at me, and she looked a little flush.
. "Hey James. I was just wondering if you had any plans for the next week?"
My heart skipped a beat. I'd been so focused on all of my other friends leaving, I hadn't even bothered to find out if Samantha was going to be available or not! This was the perfect opportunity!
. "Not really. My friends all deserted me, so I'm just looking for something to keep me from succumbing to ennui." Here we go "What about you? What's your week like?"
. "Same for me, actually.... Y'know, do you maybe wanna come to my house for, um, a slee-... an overnight?"
She actually blushed a bit. I could feel my cheeks warming up in response.
. "Well, I guess, I mean... I- I don't really...." I made up my mind to make sure this happened. "Yeah, sure! That sounds like fun!"
. "Great!" She handed me a slip of paper with an address on it. It looked like she was... just up the street from me!? "I'll see you tomorrow to Sunday?" She started walking out of the Library.
. "Uh, I'll- I'll see you then!" I called after her.
It almost looked like she was bouncing as she walked.
