Up to the present point I haven't yet posted any stories here, but if my 'two pence' is worthy of being considered in spite of that fact, then I'd just like to add that I agree with the statement of sarobah and other's that concurred.
I definitely do see possible merits to a 'thumbs up' system yes, but when it comes to stories and so on, as a writer (although extremely amateur) of some poetry and the odd story, I can safely say that an empty 'thumbs up' would be meaningless to me, and possibly even less than meaningless. People sometimes have a tendency to 'take the easy route' too, so where you might have someone who would otherwise comment, if you give them the option, that would just turn into a 'thumbs up' and no comment, so even what you'd have already could be lost in swathes.
In short, I see it's merits, but it's down sides are just too great, and therefore, if this matter ever came to a vote, I would most absolutely vote against the idea and discourage anything that would encourage a possible lessening of personal comments.
