Assange get political assylum.

Postby Chris12 » Thu Aug 16, 2012 7:29 am

In fear of being sent back to Sweden and eventually the US Wikileaks founder Assange has fled to the Ecuador embassy and as of today had recieved political assylum by them.

As much as i think this is a bad thing i do find it a bit funny. The ''champion'' of free speech is planning to flee to a country that has none! :big:

England said it would not let him leave. Stay tuned.

I think Assange traded one jail cell for another. If he leaves the Ecuadoran embassy, he gets arrested. Even if he rides to the airport in an embassy vehicle, he must still step on British soil to get from the car, to the aircraft.

And the embassy is not a hotel. It doesn't have rooms and beds for anyoine other than embassy staff. At last report, he has an air mattress on the floor.

I think he is right to fear deportation from Sweden, to the US, but if he is convicted of sexual misconduct in Sweden, maybe they'll let the US have him after he serves his time in a Swedish jail. Say in about 10-20 years.

So, for the time, the Ecuadoran embassy serves as Assange's jail cell. It's bigger, roomier, and the food is probably a lot better, but for all intents and purposes, it's still a cell. He can't leave without severe consequences. And you can bet your ass that the Brits will have someone watching every exit of the embassy, 24/7.

Given that the FBI has had its wrists slapped again in New Zealand, getting Assange out of Sweden might not be easy.

The Swedish public may not approve of handing someone over to a country that only pays lip service to the law when it suits them.

Ecuador has at least more free speech than Europe or the USA. In Ecuador he gets at least not killed because of his free speech, while in the USA his death is waiting.

It could just turn out to be jailtime instead. But the Us aren't pissed at Assange because of free speech. they are mad because assange's ''free speech'' involves letting other hack clasified and probably important documents so his site can post them for all to see. There's a difference between free speech and criminal actions.

If he had leaked classified material from Russia or China, he would have been dead two years ago.

So you don't even know what kind of ducuments he made public?

So you think, that nobody is allowed to know, that the war in Iraq is based on lies? And also nobody should know about criminal acts of the government?

At least in a democracy should every citizen know, what the government is doing. The USA call them self a democracy, so their citizen need to have transparence about the politic. And Assange is trying to get that transparency.

Assange has no interest in transparency, he's just trying to stick it to countries he doesn't like, especially the US. Seriously, what was revealed that truly was a shocker? We may not have known the details before but nothing truly earth-shattering came out. Assange was revealing enough to be potentially dangerous to some people but not really enough for us to find out anything we didn't know. It had long been known we went into Iraq based on lies. The only thing we don't know is where exactly the line ended. As far as I'm aware that wasn't revealed in all of this.

Uh, the whole thing being basen on lies has been common knowledge for a long time. Assange had nothing to do with people figuring that out. The fact that the goverment is also performing those act in Iraq is also common knowledge, its a war! everyone who needed wikileaks to figure that out has been living in a fairy tale. Goverments will always keep secrets from the public. They have always done so and will keep doing that for as long as there are governments to begin with and i don't mind at all because a goverment that shares everything they did with everyone doesn't work. We don't need to know everything they do! And in this case the wrongs Assange is exposing have a real chance to whipe away the good things we did in Iraq. Assange just reeks of both short sightedness and self righteousness.

Even if Assange had a point, hacking clasified documents and showing them to everyone is against the law no matter whether you think it should or shouldn't be.

And, some docoments he revealed some to be just there to troll the goverments. There are multiple leaks about things like ambassador from country A telling the ambassador from country B he thinks the ambassador from country C is a freak. What is the point in that? is messing up the relationship between countries part of his big mission?

What is the main worry is that when he gets to Sweden, the present charges are dropped and he gets extradited.

This would end up with the rule of law being trampled on by the USA.

Given that the hacker Gary McKinnon's name has been mentioned in the same breath as the 9/11 terror attacks, and the illegal Megaupload fiasco in New Zealand, expecting the USA to keep to the concepts of the rule of law are becoming less likely.

Why the worry? you'd think England would ship him off to America sooner then Sweden since they have a closer 'bond'' with the US

Given the fact that he has been found guilty before he has even been charged, any extradition would have a massive hurdle.

Remember that the USA has refused to extradite individuals to the UK on the grounds that 'they would not receive a fair trial'

They know that the UK population have not forgotten this and it would rear its ugly head again.

The USA did something good in Iraq? On which planet do you live?
Keeping secrets or telling lies is a difference. Probably the most of the wars of the USA are based on lies. And because everyone believes it, the USA can make war on everyone they want, without big protests.

There are only guesses about those lies. There are many proofs, but there is still no truth.
9/11 is the best example. There is no doubt, that the official version is wrong. But what happend really? There are many theories, but what is the truth?

Assange gives clarity about the truth, because he has the archived data, which were kept secret.
