Riddles ~ Answer the riddle before you, and ask your own

Postby randomentity » Thu Apr 19, 2012 9:03 am

And when the asker sees that their riddle has been answered, please confirm whether the given answer is correct or not.

Okay, so I'll get it started then..

What's open when it's closed, and closed when it's open?

A police investigation is closed to the public when it is open (active), and open to the public when it is closed (solved). :D

Silence.

What can you put in a bucket to make it lighter?

Well, burning the bucket to ashes would lighten it, wouldn't it? :P

Even nearer. So close. Wrong!
Hint: if you do it your way, it becomes heavier first.
Anyhow, it could be a metal bucket.

Haha, I suppose that works Jason, but the 'actual' answer is a railway gate.. when it's open to the traffic it's closed to the train, and when it's closed to the traffic it's open to the train! :)

xtc: How about putting a hole in it? lol

Now, to keep this moving a wee bit, how about after one answering attempt, whether successful or otherwise, another riddle gets asked anyway, just to keep the flow flowing :P

So.. What always ends everything?

The letter 'g', as in everythinG!
Aw frig! xtc got in ahead of me while I was thinking up a new riddle!
When the door is open?

Wrong. Even when a door is open, it's still a door. But closer than you know.

They're both mid-day!

What goes up a chimney down but never down a chimney up? (an ancient, Victorian riddle.)

Right about my riddle; I guess I make them TOO simple.
Concerning the chimney, I believe I have heard this one before. An umbrella (down- closed, up - open)?
As for the door, how about when it's ajar? :big:

Well as there isn't one to answer, I'll ask another now :)

What is the LEAST number of chairs you would need around a dinner table to sit four fathers, two grandfathers, and four sons for dinner?

Four. And now, mine:

I jump; I run; I'm one of four.
Some times you'll find me over your door.

Are you sure it's not three grandfathers? In which case the answer is five.

Two Indians were walking down the track. The big Indian is the little Indian's father, but the little Indian is not the big indian's son.

The little Indian is the Big Indian's daughter; I've heard this one loads of times before although usually the people involved are doctors not Indians.

For xtc: As stated, Randomentity's riddle answer would be four. The two grandfathers would also be two of the fathers. Everyone has a father (living or deceased), and every man is the son of someone (living or deceased). The riddle didn't say their own father/son was present, only that they were one themselves. So you have four men, all of whom are fathers and are (by default) also someone's son, and two of these men are grandfathers (in all these cases not necessarily of any of the other men present; therefore you do NOT need THREE grandfathers, or indeed any at all except for purposes of answer obscurity).
Of course, only Randomentity can verify this for sure.
Meanwhile, Drawscore's riddle got lost in the crush.

This one got lost in the crush. I for one however have no idea WTF the answer is, so I'll re-ask it.

Hahah drawscore and Jason were right on mine, the answer is 4, and Jason's reasoning for it was correct :)

As for drawscore's riddle.. I also racked my brains on that one and have absolutely no idea either! :o

Spring.

Another old (and, sorry, easy) one:

But this man's father is my father's son.
At whose photo am I looking?

A cloud

It's a beautiful night as crickets was chriping in the night, and dogs were chained up, and everyone was sleeping. A man is walking down the street when he throws his knife in that air and in the morning, he is found dead on the street. The police knew exactly what happened, but do you know how he died?

And while you are thinking about that, here's something else to consider:

Three office workers have been sent by their boss to a business convention in a neighboring state. They arrive and check with the hotel, but find that there is only one room left. The desk clerk, seeing a chance to pocket some extra cash, tells them that the room costs $30.

Each man pulls out a $10 bill, and the men go up to the room. But a little later, the desk clerk starts feeling bad about having cheated the trio, so he calls the bellhop over, gives him $5, and tells him to take it up and return it. On the way up, the bellhop realized that three won't go into five evenly, so he pockets $2, and returns a dollar to each of the men.

Since each man got a dollar back, that means that they only paid $9 each for the room. Now, 9 x 3 = $27, and the bellhop kept $2, which makes $29. Where's the other dollar?

So, "spring" isn't the answer, then?

Nope Jay, not a cloud.

Drawscore: There is no extra dollar, it's a trick question, and a very good one I might add, it kept my brain going for a good while! lol. The question tries to trick you into adding the $2 to the $27 whenever that $2 is actually already included in the $27! :)

And now as it hasn't been correctly answered yet, I'll ask mine again:
I am so much bigger than any elephant, yet so much lighter than any feather. What am I?
