Question about viewing computer history

Postby SolidSnickerdoodle » Sun Jun 05, 2016 12:09 am

As of my recent high school graduation I've decided that I will be relocating to Pennsylvania with my brother to work with my dad for a month or so. We're leaving soon and being in a new house with new people I'm a bit concerned when it comes to the privacy of my viewing habits. I've been searching bondage related content for years at home without incident. I use incognito mode as often as I can, have my downloaded content sealed away in a locked folder, and shut off my laptop whenever I'm not using it. It also helps that most everyone here is about as computer illiterate as one can get.

Nonetheless, I've become paranoid at the thought that my dad or his girlfriend (who works in IT :worried: ) will be able to see what web pages I'm viewing because I'm on their wifi. Why they would ever have cause to do this is unknown, but perhaps all it would take is some increased download activity to prompt some closer inspection.

I used to think that keeping the history and cookies cleared was enough, but since reading up on the subject I've come across pages about viewing data transfers through the router and having administrative access to something called a registry. So do I have to clear the registry also? Is there any way for me to be 100% anonymous in my website visits when I'm using somebody else's wifi?

This has got me very worried, so if anybody knows anything or can help me out here I'd greatly appreciate it.

You probably have to clear their registry, if thats what you read. No you can't fully anonymously view pages unless you use VPN.
Woah, don't mind if I do.

Use a VPN. This should hide all of your browsing history from the WiFi but you should clear your history afterward too. I don't imagine she'd have any reason to look at your searching but I think it is possible to without using a VPN.

Essentially what a VPN does is create a new, private network just for you, like your own internet, if you like. Make sure you get one with good reviews. (I recommend Tunnelbear for iOS). It makes it very hard but not impossible for people to track you. Unless she is trying to literally hack you, she shouldn't find anything.

Wait for more replies because I'm not a techxpert.

If you're on pc, I recommend cyberghost and if it says it's too occupied, I'll fix that for you.
Woah, don't mind if I do.

Press the "Windows" key (between "Alt" and "Ctrl" on the lower left of your keyboard, or click on the "Windows" icon at the lower left of your screen. It will bring up a menu. At the bottom of that menu, there is a "search" option. In the search field, type in "history." That should bring up several apps or programs, one of which will be "Delete browsing history." I will assume that you know what to do, and where to go, from that point.

Nothing is ever completely deleted from a computer unless it is done professionally, but you can make it difficult for the layman, and sometimes, even a techie, to get in.

The other thing, is to never keep anything on your computer you don't want found. Although there are security programs, a good (or lucky) hacker can bypass them. I recommend keeping "sensitive material" on a thumb/flash drive. They are small, they can hold a lot of data, and you can drop it in a glass of liquid if necessary. You can back it up. and keep a spare in a safe place only you know about.
