This is the first story I've written in a while and the first time I've delved into adult themes. A New Experience
Part 1
He stared blankly at the professor droning on about something sounding vaguely related to the last lecture. Angular momentum, moment of inertia, it all fused together into one big blob in his mind making it even harder to learn this supposedly vital part of his studies. He let out a soft sigh and peered at his friend sitting next to him with a similar disinterest in the subject at hand. The other young man turned to face him, smiled and shook his head before leaning back and putting his mechanical pencil down. There were less than ten minutes left of the lecture so there really was no reason to try to be a good student anymore: their brains were at their limits, and they both knew this more than well.
“And that’s all we have time for. See you on Monday.”
The hall filled with a buzz of voices as everyone packed up their notebooks, pencils, computer and whatever else they had brought to the lesson. Mechanics was something the upperclassmen had brought up on several occasions as a course of beastly difficulty and they often mentioned the small proportion of students actually passing it every year. Right now, that wasn’t on his mind though, he was just glad it was all over for the week.
“That was a total drag,” his friend proclaimed after yawning, the professor having already left thankfully. “You free to hang out for a while?”
He zipped his bag closed and stood up, slinging it over one shoulder. “Sure. Your place or somewhere else?”
“I was thinking we could have a coffee or something. How’s that sound?”
His friend followed suit and they both went to the hangers, took their jackets and exited the room into a large, sparsely decorated corridor leading towards the front doors of the university building. It was a fairly modern structure, but the floor already saw signs of heavy usage. There were large windows to their right as they followed the masses towards the exit, as well as a few potted plants along the window-covered wall as well as around the pillars that served to hold the upper balcony-like floor up. All around them were people, chatting and following the same stream they themselves had gotten caught up in.
“Doesn’t sound bad at all. Anyone else tagging along?”
They left the building and stepped into the warm spring sunlight, immediately feeling rejuvenated after the dreary set of lectures the day had brought them.
“Well, yes and no.” His friend walked over to the bike racks and he followed closely behind. “There’s someone I’d like you to meet, actually.”
“Someone you’d like me to meet? Sounds ominous.” He put on an expression of mock dread and after a moment of silence, they both laughed. He was very curious about whoever this person would be though.
“Don’t worry about it, you’ve actually talked to the guy before.” They pulled their bikes from the rack, sat up in the saddles and took off towards the central parts of the small city. There wasn’t a single cloud staining the perfect blue sky, and there was only a slight breeze causing the leaves to rustle pleasantly. There was a lot of greenery in the outer parts of the city, and people certainly took advantage of the nice weather. Wherever one looked there was a group of people there. The small field below the hill on which the university building stood was especially crowded, with many picnic-goers having already spread out sheets and whatever food they had brought.
The two friends reached a small no name coffee shop, parked their bikes and headed inside. They were greeted by a rather intense aroma of coffee, which certainly wasn’t unpleasant in any way. As usual, the place was quite busy and there was a bit of a line to the counter. Earlier that week, the café had brought out their furniture for the patio for the first time that year, something which had definitely brought many people in. Within a few minutes the two had ordered their beverages of choice and found a place at one of the outside table.
“It’s been a while since last time I was here,” his friend said with a serene expression on his face. “What about you, Quinn?”
“Oh, uhh…” Quinn perked up, having been lost in thought earlier as he was still quite curious about the mysterious person they were supposed to meet with. “I haven’t been here since last time we went together.”
His friend leaned forward, an amused expression on his face as he looked at Quinn. Parker had quite an ordinary look to him. He had short, dark brown hair and a light complexion coupled with grey eyes and a pronounced jawline. Furthermore, he had quite thick eyebrows and a long nose, while often sporting a carefree smile. His smile was especially prominent when he was teasing one of his friends, whereas Quinn was his most common target. Parker’s body was, like his face, rather average-looking. He wasn’t particularly muscular or bulky, but neither was he overly slender like Quinn. In the end, he was a good friend and easy to get along with, having been brought up in a lower middle class neighborhood in a functional family. In the group of friends the two belonged to, Parker was certainly one of the main driving forces to keep them all together.
“You seem a bit spaced out today. Excited about meeting someone new?” There was a clear teasing undertone in his voice. Quinn felt his cheeks warm up slightly in response to it. If anything, he was quite nervous, having always been a bit of an introvert. Still, he couldn’t deny that curiosity filled his mind about this mysterious person he had allegedly spoken to before. Couldn’t Parker just tell him who it was?
“I just,” he started before looking into Parker’s eyes. Then he just leaned back and crossed his arms, giving his friend a pouty look. “Jeez, it’s not like you didn’t know I was gonna react this way. It wouldn’t hurt you to be a bit more considerate after all this time.”
Parker’s expression softened a bit and he gave his friend a warm smile. “Sorry, I’ll behave.” Quinn rolled his eyes and smiled as well, unlocking his arms from their crossed state.
Shortly thereafter, the waitress brought their drinks: a cup of simple black coffee for Parker and hot cocoa with a hint of vanilla for Quinn. As they sipped on their hot beverages, the two friends chatted about mundane, everyday things. Minutes passed in the warm late afternoon sun until eventually Parker shifted his eyes slightly to the side of Quinn and out towards the street. They lit up and he started waving a hand.
“Hey, we’re over here!”
Quinn turned around and immediately saw the person Parker was looking at. It was a man similar in age to them, quite handsome at a glance. He dressed smartly in a light blue collared shirt combined with khaki pants and black loafers. He waved back to Parker and as he approached their table Quinn noticed the man was taller than both him and his friend. Parker stood up first and greeted the guy with a hug as was the norm with people he knew well. Quinn rose from his seat as well and inspected the stranger while he was talking to Parker.
He had straight, dirty blonde hair swept to one side, not quite as short as Parker’s but still well-maintained. His face was certainly handsome, both masculine and elegant with a groomed light beard and, to Quinn, perfectly proportioned features. His hazel eyes were beautiful as well and pulled one in without effort. His observer also noticed his slim, healthy figure and broad shoulders. That’s when Quinn finally snapped out of it and heard his voice. His eyes widened as he immediately recognized it. Parker and the man turned their attention to Quinn.
“William, this is Quinn. Quinn, William.” Parker took a step to the side so the two could properly greet each other. William extended his hand, and after a few moments of hesitation Quinn took it and they shook hands.
“Nice to meet you Quinn,” William said in his smooth voice, smiling at the shorter boy. Quinn had only heard that voice through his headset before, as part of the online game both him and Parker had played quite a bit of over the last few years. He had only known the guy by his online alias ‘Wiccar’ before today and he never expected he’d actually meet him. Quinn looked up at William and smiled back, albeit shyly.
“Same to you, Wicc-,” he said before stopping himself. “Ah, I mean William.” The warmth spread across his cheeks again. He already screwed up, and it wasn’t like he had never talked to William before. To his relief however, William simply laughed and they let go of each other’s hands.
“So you’re Aylow, I take it? You can call me Will.”
They sat down at the table again and as per usual Parker led the conversation, talking with Will about what he and Quinn were studying, about their friends and whatever else he could think of. Considering the topics at hand, Quinn figured Parker mustn’t have met Will until recently even though it seemed like they had known one another forever. At the few moments when Parker looked away, Quinn could feel Will glancing at him. It made him feel a bit uneasy but he figured Will just didn’t know fully how to act around his new acquaintance.
Regardless, after about an hour and half, Quinn and Parker bade farewell to Will. Of course, Parker being Parker, he had already suggested meeting up again soon, to which Will agreed. It had been fun for them all to meet, he said, and Parker could only agree. Quinn smiled and nodded as well, but inside he could still feel slightly anxious about how Will had looked at him. On the way home, however, he quickly forgot about it as he had another chat with Parker. They parted near the apartment building where Quinn lived and he continued on his own down the street to his destination. His thoughts returned to Will and his glances.
“I wonder what they meant?” he mumbled to himself as he parked his bike and headed upstairs to his apartment.

Part 2
Later in the evening, Quinn sat at his desk and paid half-attention to a video on his second monitor while he browsed the net on the other. It was peaceful and he enjoyed doing nothing in particular, although it tended to get dull sometimes. Not to mention that there was always a slight sense of guilt deep inside of him whenever he did something not related to studying. Still, today was a Friday so the guilt wasn’t too prominent. Besides that, he had something else on his mind that kept him preoccupied.
An icon on the taskbar started blinking and he brought up the program in question: the chat client he and his friends tended to use, not in the least for gaming purposes.
Wiccar: hi, you there?
Quinn swallowed as he looked at the solitary message. Will hadn’t ever really messaged him a lot one on one, just in the chat group they had together with Parker. And yet now, suddenly, he did. It must be because of the meeting earlier. Quinn put his fingers on the keyboard and typed his reply.
Aylow: i’m here. what’s up?
Wiccar: nothing much. I didnt expect you to be so cute lol
Cheek burn. Quinn couldn’t believe his eyes. Him, cute? He stood up and hurried into the bathroom where the only mirror in the apartment was. He flicked on the light and stared at his reflection. Quinn was a rather slender and short young man, smaller than Parker in pretty much every regard. He had narrow shoulders for a man and he was quite uninterested in building muscles in general. His face was on the feminine side with thin eyebrows above large, blue eyes, a rather small nose and soft lips. His hair was auburn in color and reached to his shoulders, framing his face nicely.
Quinn had been called cute before and it had always made him rather self-conscious due to his shy nature. He couldn’t see it himself, and if anything he saw more flaws with his appearance than anything else. And yet Will had called him cute just like that. The blush on Quinn’s cheeks returned at the thought of it and he shook his head, shutting his eyes and slapping his cheeks lightly to snap out of it. Taking a deep breath, the young man went back to the computer and sat back down. There was another message.
Wiccar: sorry was that too much?
Aylow: it’s fine
It was easier to just try to ignore what he had said and move on. That’s what usually worked in a situation like this. People tended to drop matters like this if he just didn’t act too interested in general.
Wiccar: I was wondering if you want to hang out at some point
Aylow: sure, that’s what parker wanted right?
What was he getting at, exactly? It had just been a few hours since Parker himself suggested they meet again soon. He couldn’t have already forgotten about it already, could he?
Wiccar: I meant just you & me
Quinn stared at the last message, having a hard time believing his eyes. Will wanted to meet him on his own for some reason, and it made Quinn nervous.
Aylow: why?
Wiccar: I want to get to know you better, thats all
Couldn’t he get to know Quinn better just by talking to him normally when Parker was around? Was that really such a hard thing to do? Either way, Quinn couldn’t help but feel curiosity bubbling up inside him despite his common sense practically screaming at him that it’s suspicious.
Aylow: ok… when do you want to hang out then?
Wiccar: Im completely free tomorrow, so wanna come?
Aylow: come?
Wiccar: to my place
What was he thinking? To his place? That sounded absurdly suspicious! But then again, there was the feeling of curiosity, anticipation, even adventure. Was that last one even a feeling? Either way, Quinn felt conflicted about it all: his common sense saying no but his gut saying yes. He had been thinking about Will all evening, by his charming appearance, his smooth voice and his smile. Why did he think about these things though? It’s not like he had ever had any interest in men. Maybe he just wanted to know William better. That must have been it.
Aylow: sure, where do you live?
Wiccar: 200 2nd St
Aylow: i’ll be there at 3
Wiccar: great cya then
Quinn leaned back in his computer chair and felt his heart beating harder than normal. Was he really going to Will’s place tomorrow? He barely knew the guy besides through the game, and now they were going to meet, just the two of them, after having just been introduced. It was a surreal feeling and he couldn’t quite grasp that it was happening, but when looking back at the chat log it did indeed seem like it. His train of thought was interrupted by another chat window flashing and he switched to that one instead. It was the group chat.
prKee: hey guys wassup?
Draylik: nm
foth112: im eating atm
prKee: wanna play in 10?
Foth112: 15 then im done
Draylik: sure
Wiccar. Im in
Everyone always seemed to want to play the game when Parker was the one asking. He was quite the natural leader even online, and Quinn was sure he was quite aware of it. Draylik, or Nathan as he was actually called, was one of Parker’s friends from high school. foth112, Ryan, was someone Parker had met at a convention of some sort. They were fun to play with even though it had taken Quinn a little while to warm up to them, as was the case for him with most people. Then, of course, there was William. Parker had met him online through another game they both played before Parker met Quinn in university. So he was also going to play?
prKee: Q?
Quinn wondered if he was really going to be able to focus on the game after his private chat with Will. Well, there was only one way to find out. He nodded to himself and typed out his answer on the keyboard.
Aylow: yeah, i’m ready
