Tie ups in books

Postby haloguy » Sun Nov 21, 2010 5:56 am

I have noticed some tie ups in books, harry potter and a few others

One of the most prevalent was in tintin, he got tied up quite often, and he tied people up quite often, much of the time with a gag, the great part about tintin is that it has pictures to visualize tie up scenes

Any other books that people can think of that have tie ups?

Tarzan and others get tied up a lot in the original books by Edgar Rice Burroughs, the comic books and strips that came afterward, and so on; I don't think any hero got tied up more than HE did!
Some of the comic books show "Boy" getting tied up every so often to.
Anyone who is interested in looking at the comic books in particlar: http://www.erbzine.com/mag23/2395.html
Comic strips: http://www.erbzine.com/mag26/2600.html

Here's one favorite example of mine involving 'Boy' aka a Korak aka The Son of Tarrzan:

i don't read that many book's, but a lot of comic books though. iv'e seen lucky luke tied up a couple of times and some various characters in asterix.
also there is a norwegian comic called pyton that was made between 1985 and 1995 that had some people tied up every now and then.

still i wish they could have some more of the damsel in distress tie ups in comics as well.

There are always Tugs in the Hardy Boys mysteries, Nancy Drew mysteries and of course Hardy Boys/ Nancy Drew Supermysteries. Though an adult, I frequently reread them lots. Also "Double Cross" by James Patterson has some good Tugs action too.

Might I suggest a paperback book entitled "The Solid Gold Kid", written by Norma Fox Mazer and Harry Mazer. Plenty of tie-up scenarios in that fictional book. In fact, on the front cover, the principal character is depicted bound and gagged. It's about a wealthy kid who has been kidnapped along with some of his fellow prep-school students. Find it and enjoy! (I was able to obtain a copy through Amazon, if that's any help)

I still remember a book from my childhood (and we're talking forty years ago) about two boys who stumbled onto some counterfeiters who kept them tied up in a cave, sometimes gagged. After a search, I believe the book is "The Moon Tenders" by August Derleth, written in 1958. Unfortunately it appears to be out of print, though used copies are available through Amazon.

I remember a book for teenagers with a bound girl in her undies on the cover.
The story was quite silly. The girl from the cover discover a secret of the baddy and this villain decided that she had to vanish. So he made her strip to her underwear, tied her and applied some kind of moisture that would made her paralytic. He would trow her in the lake then without the bindings, so that everybody would assume she went for a swim but drowned.
But it was a nice cover - I can't remember the title right now, and besides it was in dutch.

Speaking about tie ups in cartoons ... There is a nice forum with tie ups taking from cartoons.

My own favourite is Fanny, one of the main characters of a dutch cartoon ('Kiekeboe').

I remember checking out a book from the library once called The Kidnapping of Suzie Q. The title and the fact there's a blond girl with her hands behind her back and a gag over her mouth and a couple of masked men holding her is a pretty good giveaway to the fact it's a book featuring a girl bound and gagged inside. It's a decent story, not a great one, but does feature the title character tied up a few times.

If you ever read those Choose Your Own Adventure stories some of them had moments where you could end up tied up. Often this meant The End for your character as you died or were otherwise captured by the bad guys but this wasn't always the case.

And as someone else said, the Hardy Boys featured a lot of tie-ups, often with the Hardy brothers themselves getting bound and gagged, but on plenty of occasions it would be someone else.

A lot of books have someone getting tied up in them. Mysteries and thrillers in particular use it as a plot point because it's a good way to add tension.

Tie ups occur moderately often in the Percy Jackson series. Characters like Anabeth, Nico and Percy all got tied and/or gagged at least once.

I used to read the Beano years ago and in a lot of strips, Dennis the Menace would tie up and gag people. I remember one strip in particular when he appeared in a Bash St. Kids strip and he had Cuthbert all bound and gagged on the floor.

Fantasy books tend to be gold mines for tie ups.

Someone mentioned "Percy Jackson" series so I won't repeat it.

Spoilers below:

The Seventh Tower book 2 has the main girl knocked out and tied up briefly. Sadly she's taken to some weird guy who unties her and locks her in a dome. Why he untied her, I don't know.

Eragon, while not being a particularly well written series(in my view) does have a few DID scenes throughout the books.

Golden Compass had Lyra tied up briefly at one point.

While not fantasy, "Shadow Children" had a female protagonist who is chained up in the beginning of book 3 and near the end of book 5. Also, it's just an amazing series and should be checked out anyway.

Stephen King ventured there a couple times. The female example I can think of is near the end of "The Dark Half" Scene goes on for awhile.

There's an R.L stein Fear Street one who's title I can't remember. Just remember it was a part 2 and had an evil santa on the cover(which was a bait and switch) We see two girls bound and gagged for quite some time.

All the major ones I can think of.

Hi Terry, For the benefit of us in the U.S. and Canada you're talking about the British Dennis the Menace, aka Dennis and Gnasher. Gnasher is the name of his pet dog. Both comic strips started around the same time in the early 50s. From my limited knowledge of the strips the British character is about 11 years old and is more of a bully than his American counterpart who is 5.

If it hasn't been deleted you can see the American version in Danusri's avatar. Cheers, T.T.

That's great, I remember tie-up scenes and some illustrations in the Choose Your Own Adventure books too! The old ones, like from the 1980s. I can't remember which one it was, but one of them had a scene I LOVED... you open a closet and find a woman tied up and gagged in her underwear!! (Like a slip I think, someone had stolen her uniform).

Needing to steal someone's uniform or clothes... a classic trick for getting them in their underwear!!
