Chapter 1: A Surprise Date

“Alright Lorna, I’m clocking out for the night!” Vesper hollered as she exited out the rear door of the café and took a long drag on her cigarette. She continued walking towards her parent’s "old" maroon colored Ford Business Coupé located in the rear of the parking lot. Letting out an elongated sigh she opened the driver’s door and clambered onto the lengthy beige colored bench seat. “I should quit smoking...” Vesper muttered to herself as she rolled down the window and tossed the cigarette out onto pavement whilst starting the car. The mighty engine roared to life and Vesper soon took off, headed in the direction of her home. After a short ten minute drive she pulled into the driveway of her parent’s home and shut off the car. As she scooted out of the car her neighbor Malcolm was jaywalking across the street towards her. Surprised, she closed the car door and proceeded towards Malcolm’s general direction. The two met under the large Oak tree beside the sidewalk in front of Vesper’s home.

“Hello Vesper.” Malcolm charmingly said as he stared directly into Vesper’s eyes.

“Hi Malcolm, what’s up…” Vesper shyly murmured as she shuffled her feet around.

“Oh nothing much, I just came over to ask you a question” He voiced.

“What’s your question?” Vesper inquired.

“Well, I wanted to know if you would like to go out to dinner with me tonight, around 8:00.” He confidently voiced. Vesper’s eyes shot open as if she had seen a ghost. No one had ever asked her out on a date.

“Why would Malcolm, the quarterback of the school’s football team, ask me out on a date?” She screamed in her mind. Vesper was barely noticed by anybody at school except for a few of her close friends. “Does he have a crush on me?” She pondered. “What should I say?” She questioned herself. After about thirty seconds Vesper made her decision. “Well… uh… sure, I guess.” Vesper quavered as she gazed into Malcolm’s piercing blue eyes.

“Good, I’ll be here at 7:45 to pick you up. See you then!” He cheerfully said. Malcolm turned around and hustled back across the street back towards his home. “Well, there go my plans of staying home tonight.” Vesper muttered to herself as she strolled across the lawn and up the stairs towards the door of her house. She slowly turned the handle and let the door bring her inside the security of her home…

Chapter 2: The Silver Butterfly

There was a thunderous pounding on the front door. “Hold on a second, I’m naked!” Vesper called. She quickly scuttled out of her room towards the front door with a towel draped across her body. Vesper unlocked the door and was greeted by Malcolm dressed up in a navy blue pinstriped three-piece suit with a solid red tie.

“Good evening Vesper.” Malcolm politely said as he stared directly into her eyes.

“Come in, take a seat on the couch, I’m not done getting ready yet.” She replied bashfully. After another five minutes Vesper emerged from her bedroom wearing a crimson red evening dress topped off with smokey eye makeup. “Well, how do I look?” Vesper inquired while twirling her petite body around. Malcolm’s jaw dropped to the floor in amazement.

“You look ravishing!” He exclaimed.

“Aw, thank you Malcolm…” She shyly replied back.

“You’re quite welcome.” He replied with a grin.

“Well, let’s get going, I’m extremely excited!” Vesper exclaimed. Vesper and Malcolm exited the house and proceeded towards the jade green Chevrolet Fleetmaster Convertible parked in Vesper’s driveway. The two hopped in the car and took a twenty minute drive to a classy restaurant just outside of downtown New York City called The Olive Grove. Vesper and Malcolm dined on a three-course banquet and told stories about each other the entire night.

“Well, it’s getting late; I guess I should be getting home now.” Vesper murmured.

“Yeah, me too, I’m tuckered out.” Malcolm chuckled. The couple exited the restaurant and set off to return to the car. While walking to where the car was parked Vesper cracked an idea in the back of her mind; she was going to have her first kiss tonight. Vesper pulled Malcolm by his hand into a side alley.

“Malcolm, I hope this isn't too much to ask for, but could you be my first kiss?” Vesper inquired timidly.

“Wait a minute; you've never been kissed before?” He questioned.

“Yeah, shocking isn't it…” She muttered under her breath.

“I’d be glad to be your first kiss Vesper.” Malcolm whispered into her ear. Malcolm tilted his head and Vesper tilted hers the opposite way. Their lips locked together and the kissed held for a solid fifteen seconds until they parted lips. “Vesper, there’s something I want to give to you.” Malcolm whispered as he pulled a tiny velvet box out of his pocket. He opened the box revealing a silver butterfly necklace.

“W-w-w-why did you get me a necklace?” Vesper gawked in astonishment.

“Well, since you accepted that you’d come on a date with me I figured that I could buy you something nice to remember you’re first date; and yes, I knew this was you’re first date by the way you reacted to my offer.” he said. Vesper’s cheeks turned crimson red with embarrassment, Malcolm gently grabbed the necklace and slipped it over Vesper’s head. As Malcolm slipped the necklace over Vesper’s head several loud bangs echoed from down at the opposite end of the alley.

“What the hell was that?” Vesper whispered.

“Let’s have a look and see…” Malcolm said. The two stealthily crept down the alley and hid behind a gigantic green dumpster. The couple saw three men dressed in jet black three-piece suits with fedoras; one was holding a M1928 Thompson sub-machine gun in his hands. There was also a corpse sprawled out in front of the men. “We should get out of here Vesper; this is mafia business.” Malcolm whispered. The two silently began to back away. “Try not to run into anything.” Malcolm sternly hissed. Too late; Vesper backed straight into an aluminum trashcan.

“Hey, there’s someone here!” A deep masculine voiced yelled. One of the men spun around to see Malcolm helping Vesper up.

“There are two damn kids here!” Another masculine voiced cried out.

“Well don’t just stand there, get them!” A booming masculine voice barked. Two men armed with Colt M1911 pistols sprinted towards Malcolm and Vesper.

“Move one bit and a bullet goes straight through both of your heads!” One of the men screamed.

“Don’t kill us please!” Vesper cried with tears weeping from her eyes.

“Herschel, Eli; tie up them up.” The mafia leader commanded while hurling two coils of industrial rope to the men.

“Yes boss!” The two mafia henchmen replied in unison. The henchmen violently shoved Vesper and Malcolm's hands behind their backs and bound them together.

“Help us!” Malcolm screamed at the top of his lungs; trying to attract attention.

“Blindfold and gag the brats!” The mafia leader ordered. Red bandanas were tied over Vesper and Malcolm’s eyes and thick slices of duct tape were slapped across their mouths.

“Mmmmmmph!” Vesper and Malcolm cried out in unison as they thrashed around trying to escape. The henchmen lifted up the couple and heaved them into the back of a jet black International KB8 freight delivery truck…
