When i was 14 my cousins once arranged for me to be 'kidnapped' by some neighbor kids. My cousins knew them well but they were strangers to me (because i had just recently moved in with my cousins after my father died). My cousins had tied me up in the woods near their house and then just left me there, where the other boys (who were Japanese) 'accidentally' found me and decided to haul me home with them (I was left tied sitting inside a wagon conveniently left for the purpose). They took me to their house - about a mile from where my cousins' house - and locked me in the barn for a while; implying they were going to do some pretty nasty things to me when they got back that evening.
Being 'green as grass' at the time, I swallowed it hook, line, and sinker. But the same time I wasn't too scared because i couldn't believe kids my own age (they were brothers, and one was only 12 at the time) would actually harm me. This was only 1970 of course, so you didn't hear about adolescent murderers in those days. Anyway, I was right. It turned out my cousins had arranged the whole thing (and I'd had a sneaking suspicion all along that they had) and after being left in that barn for a few hours (including for a while after it got dark and a bit scary), they all came in, taunted me a bit, and then let me go.
By most peoples' lights that was undoubtedly taking it too far; they'd probably even intended scaring me more than i actually was but underestimated how stupid I was about such things... the act that the brothers were non-white actually didn't faze me, which considering the time and place (where non-whites were very rare) apparently impressed them. Leaving me alone tied and gagged for several hours unsupervised would be considered a dick move today of course. But other than some itching (I sat in some hay), being bored once I got over what fright I was feeling, and a growing need to relieve myself, i was okay.
Dare to be different... and make a difference.
