Go to Youtube and type in "Betty Boop I'll Be Glad When You're Dead You Rascal You" This cartoon came out in 1932 and those clips are pretty good quality for something 80 years old. There are several to choose from and the sound quality varies. Warning- there are negative stereotypes of African natives but that was the Zeitgeist back then. The highest rated radio show in the U.S. at the time was Amos 'n Andy. There was no TV back then. TV is mentioned on the opening and closing credits because the 'toon was re- released for TV is the late 40s or early 50s.
The cartoon is remarkable is that it features live action of the first jazz superstar, Louis Armstrong and his band. The cartoon shows Ms. Boop in the African jungle where she's captured by cannibal-type natives. Betty's rescuers are persued by a native warrior who morphs into a giant disembodied head of Satchmo singing the title song. The film is 7:10 and the DID scene runs from 5:38 to 6:35. She is tree tied and gagged and looks kinda cute in her pith helmet, polo shirt and shorts.
If somebody wants to post a copy do so. I'm clueless about that. Sorry about the stereotypes but that was the way things were. This was only 30 years after minstrel shows ended. For African American actors at the time script dialogue was often limited to "Ooga Booga!" I wonder if any college or uni professors who teach Jazz History and Appreciation would dare show this to the class.
