Intro - Background
At the time of this story, I was eleven. As all 11 yr old boys believe, I believed boys were much better than girls and at the time I hated girls. So I didn't like it when my mum told me I would be looking after her friend's daughters for an evening.
The family had been good friends of ours for a long time. The two twins I would be looking after were both 9, and were both really girly and loved pink and everything. I hate sterotypes now, but those girls were the perfect example of what I thought back then was a "stereotypical" girl. They had an older sister, who was in my class, and was a tomboy. As most 11 yr old boys do, I ignored the fact that she was a girl, because she acted like a boy. Her name was Emily. The twins' names were Olivia and Ella. And so we start.
Part 1 - Arrival
I knocked on the door of Emily's house and was surprised when she answered the door dressed in a ballet tutu and leotard with tights and pink legwarmers. As I said before, I thought of Emily as a tomboy, and her feminine side unnerved me at that time. She smiled and pulled me into a hug: I could smell her perfume and this made me even more embarrassed.
"Hey, Emily, how are you?" I asked.
"Great thanks! Mum's gone out already, but the girls are waiting upstairs. I'm going to a late-night ballet class, but I'll be back around 9 (it was 6 then). Have fun!"
I mumbled that I would as she slipped on pumps and walked out. Just before she left she tunred round quickly. "Oh, yeah by the way, Olivia is practising gymnastics in her room, and I'm sure she''d love you to help!"
I closed the door and headed upstairs. I entered a really pink room and saw one girl in a leotard stretching against the wall (Olivia) and another girl dressed in a pink dress and knee socks on the bed, reading a gossipy magazine (Ella). The girl on the bed looked up and smiled. "Hey Olivia, the babysitters here!" Olivia turned round and smiled. She got up and sat next to her twin on the bed.
"I assume you want to give us some rules?" Olivia said.
I was taken aback by the girliness of the room and so it took me a while to answer. "Umm...yeah. Bedtime is at 7, so you guys better get ready!"
The girls looked at me in surprise. "But....we don't usually go to bed until 9 at the weekend!" Ella said.
"Yeah...well today you will!" I said harshly.
Olivia sighed. "Fine, but will you at least help me practise some gymnastics moves? I need some help with them from someone tall."
I shook my head. "I'm not getting involved with your girly games. I'll be up to check in half an hour, ok?"
I left the room.
(Btw sorry if this is sounding a bit anti-girl. I am ttrying t get accross that I didn't like girls as a preteen, and have a completely different view now. Sorry for any offence caused)
