I'm an old timer up there in years with Jason T. and xtc, by crackee.
For me it was the original version of
The Mickey Mouse Club. It had several cliffhanger serials and one was
Corky and White Shadow, a western. Corky was the Sheriff's daughter. The Sheriff was played by Buddy Ebsen, 6 years before starring in
The Beverly Hillbillies. Corky was played by Montreal native Darlene Gillespie, an original Mousketeer. Ms. Gillespie is alive and I assume well. She's 72 and lives in Southern California.
On the show the local bank is robbed. Corky becomes Nancy Drew and tracks them down to their hideout in the woods. She confronts them and naively expects them to return the loot. She is promptly tree-tied and gagged OTM with a bandana. She is struggling and mmphing. Suddenly a rattlesnake approaches the tree as the show ends. When the show returns the rattler is getting closer. At the last second her captor takes his gun and shoots the snake.
The gun shot attracts the attention of Corky's search and rescue posse. The guy said he'd knew he be caught but was more concerned for her safety. Awww.
That was my first DID and the first time I heard of such a thing as being tied up. I was mesmorized. My head was ready to explode. It wouldn't have mattered if it was a damsel or dude in distress. I'm a switch and very egalitarian wheen it comes to TUGs. The next day I took a wire used for newspaper bundles and SB'd myself around the waist and a tree and tried to walk forward. My mom must have seen it and thought "Aww, how cute!" When I came in for supper my mom said "Hey Podner, looks like some varmint tied you up." If she knew how much of a turn on it was I"m sure she'd have gotten me to a competent child psychologist. This was the 50s.
Later on I tied a neighbor girl to a tree using her jump ropes. We also had a secluded woods nearby and I would take some rope and my dad's hankerchiefs and treetied and gagged myself OTM. I knew you had to discreet.later on into my teen years most of the TUGs involved fellows. Not a preference, just the neighboorhood demographics.
Another serial on the MMC was Disney's verion of
The Hardy Boys but I don't think they were bound and gagged like they were in the books. How many people saw their first tieups through the Magic of Disney, be it
That Darn Cat! or 1992's
Aladdin? That's my start, thanks for reading. T.T.
