Except for the whole Iran crisis deal he was unable to resolve, so what if Carter was re-elected? The mess the economy was in when he was President was not entirely of his doing, any more than the 2008 recession was Obama's. His was in many respects a successful presidency; the only one in my adult lifetime in which we were engaged in no shooting wars anywhere in the world (though as i said Iran should have been made an exception). He didn't start the Iran hostage crisis; that was created by previous administrations who toppled Iran's previous government and put in the shah of Iran. So when he was ill and the Ayatollah took over, the USA was hated and blamed for the Shah being in power; which indeed the US had done.
US caused regime change in Iran, Iraq, central America, the middle east, and elsewhere has never done anything but cause us trouble; and carter is one of the very few presidents of the later half of the 20th century who never engaged in it.
Don't get me wrong; I voted against him myself when he ran for a second term; at the time i thought he was a wimpy president. But he was a better president than Bush junior ever was or ever could have been, and actually if he were the same age as before I'd vote for him now over Hillary (let alone trump). But he isn't and I can't, so there you go. I don't like Hillary either, but unfortunately it's her or trump. If I'm at the dentists's office andI have to choose between getting a filling (Hillary) or a root canal (Trump), I'll definitely go for the filling!
