Net Neutrality

So i assume at least some of you have heard stories Net Neutrality and the talk about abolishing the whole thing. Its a bit like SOPA in that Corporations are planning to do bad things to the internet and bribing the American congress to do so. Go democracy!

For those that don't know Net Neutrality is the principle that everything posted on the internet is equal. So far all information is going through the same ''lane'' or ''pipe'' and is thus delivered at the same speed. Some corporation's are trying to do away with that and divide information in two lanes. A regular lane for normal information and a ''speed lane'' for those willing to pay extra. Its very likely however that its not going to be a speed lane for those willing to pay extra but a normal one and that information from every other site will be on a ''slow'' lane. So in essence we got plans to slow the internet down and charge us for the speed we had before they killed net neutrality. It also gives those people the power to slow down every site they don't like....not that they would ever hinder the competition like that.

These guys explain it much better then me
Net Neutral explained: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtt2aSV8wdw Short and to the point a guy with a show called ''complex things explained'' tells all you need to know about the subject in three minutes.

Last week tonight: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpbOEoRrHyU comedic anchor John Oliver(Proffer Duncan :big: ) snarks on the subjects subjects in a more comedic way for 16 minutes while also making giving some usefulness information about the companies behind it already slowing the internet down to pressure competition and Obama being in their pockets. In the end he gives us a solution and calls for the aid of the monsters of the internet to let their voices be heard.

I honestly have to say that the abolishment of Net Neutrality is a pretty bad idea. It sucks that companies are trying to take control of the Internet in this way. But what's new? Where the internet is supposed to provide equal opportunities for the little person to compete against the big company, this idea would make it much more difficult to keep that opportunity alive. If Net Neutrality leaves, then site visitors will prefer to use the fast websites than wait around for the slower ones to load.

Sigh..

Just another way for the money-grubbing corporate fat-cats to extort even more money from the rest of us; as if they didn't have far more than their fair share of the world's wealth as it is. They also see the free exchange of ideas across the Web as a direct threat to them; just as stricter societies like China and Iran and North Korea already do.
