Swish, swish, swish....
The sound of fresh snow being thrown about by my moving skis was always a refreshing sound in winter. There wasn't a cloud in the sky, and the sun reflected off the white surface, nearly blinding me when my goggles weren't in place. The mountain was slightly crowded on such a beautiful day, but there was still plenty of room to wind my way from one side of the slope to the other at an easy pace. I had been out for a few hours already, and the heat conveyed by my working body was close to becoming uncomfortable as it was trapped beneath several layers of clothing.
Swoosh..
A sudden blast of snow against the side of my face was still enough to make me gasp from the cold, however. I turned my head to find the source, and I saw him smirk at me as he boarded past. I sighed. Over the course of the day, he had spent his time showing off his skills as he bounced over moguls and slid up and down artificial ramps. After a few "ooh"'s and "ahh"'s from spectators, he had started to get cocky. Arcing back in a wide circle, he waited for me to ski by him before speeding up and throwing a trick right by me, causing more snow to spray on to my cheeks and down my scarf. I gritted my teeth and made a move towards a small rest stop near a patch of woods. He cut me off before sliding himself down on to the only unoccupied bench and throwing his head back in satisfaction. I slid to a stop and sat down beside him. He turned to me and smiled. "Having fun?" he asked. I threw him a look and rolled my eyes, which only made him chuckle. We sat in peace for a few minutes, watching people go by us. One daring boarder sped behind us and entered the trees, probably hoping for a more adventurous run. My mate sat up in anticipation and nudged me with his arm as his eyes followed the boarder. "No way!" I said. I was not going to have my day ruined by tripping over a tree root and losing my skis, or worse. He reached his hand down and cupped some snow before throwing it at me. "Chicken," he said, but stayed put.
I snarled under my breath, but then stood up. "Alright. If you think you're so big and bad, lead the way." He smiled and hopped up, already maneuvering towards the tree line. I followed behind him, carefully planning my next move. It turned out that this was not the first time someone had gone off the designated path. The snow was worn down in some places, making it easier to see what obstacles lay ahead. Once we reached a strip of space wide enough for two people to go side by side, I sped up and stuck a ski out in front of him. I held my balance as his board went over it, and he went face first into the snow. Before he could recognize what happened, my skis were off, pushed undercover, and I was dragging him by the armpits to a place where no wandering eyes could spot us. He cursed out of annoyance, but he couldn't go anywhere, and he couldn't stop me due to the board strapped to his feet. He tried to dig into the snow a few times, but the fresh powder wouldn't hold him well. I spotted a nicely sized tree, and moved us toward it. I threw his back against the trunk and whipped off my scarf, securely tying him around it. He yanked and pulled, but the scarf's knot held tight. He was trapped. He scowled up at me, and narrowed his eyes. "What exactly do you plan on doing now?" he asked. Using a variation of his earlier line, I grabbed some snow, stuffing it down under his coat before answering: "Having some fun." I winked at him before setting my plan into action.
