Seems like Gbagbo who has been the been the president in ivory coast for month's after having lost the election is finally taken down by french and UN soldiers after a brief civil war.

i can't help but wonder why it took the world so long to actually react to it.

Why should we? Don't we interefere in the business of too many countries as it is? But I think I can sum up the real reason why not in two words:
No oil.
Dare to be different... and make a difference.
To boldly go where no one in their right mind has gone before...

Because we wouldn't stop whining about how unfair it was

People whine about a lot of things they don't bother to do anything about - even when they can. Look at all these rich celebrities who bemoan the plight of the poor but don't actually chip in out of their own vast fortunes to help them. Al Gore decries global warming yet flies around in his own private jet - polluting the air more in one week than I will in a lifetime since I don't even drive a car - to bug other people about what an environmentalist he is. Peop deplorethe horrible poerty of third world nations yet want to keep them from becoming industrialized and further contribute to gloal warming (or compete with them in the world economy). So why does *this* surprise you? It's simple: most people are fools or hippocrites (if not both). Besides which, I'll lay ods that his replacement is no better a leader than this fellow was.
