Rope, how much is too much?

Postby MisterTheEdge » Mon Jun 19, 2017 10:26 am

I keep finding myself in need of longer pieces of rope. At first I though a 50 foot length would be enough. Just barely enough for a chest harness and maybe a boxtie depending on the person. I had a 100 foot length once and that took several minutes to tie up my wife with, but I ended up cutting it in half. I find 50 foot is easier to work with so I think I will try to get a bunch of 50 footers.

If you discussing only individual coils of rope, fifty feet sounds about right for easy handling. I usually got coils of 100 feet but generally cut them in half before using them for their intended purpose; especially self-ties when maneuverability became steadily more limited.
If you mean how much is too much to tie a person with altogether however, I don't think there is such a thing as too much!!! :quirk:

Haha, with you there. I have used lots of pieces of rope in the past.

Me too, though I gave up self-ties as both too boring and too unsafe some twenty years ago. I once had to virtually rip off the vertical bars of my old-fashioned bed's headboard to free myself of a self-tie done too damned well. Luckily I was able to grip them with my hands and pull them out, or I'd have been doomed to some considerable embarrassment.

I could put two 50 footers to good use for a chest harness. For legs, 50 footers could really insure no slipping out.

All six of my rope sets (270 feet each, in different colors) are divided equally between 15-foot and 30-foot lengths. I've found that working with any rope more than 50 feet in length is very unwieldy.

The one time used a 100 footer, it was pretty unweildy.
