I don't know about being sold for scrap, as such a vessel could be a wonderful naval museum or tourist attraction. I'm sure that one of our port cities could find a home for her, if the Navy was inclined to make her available. Besides, if she was sold for scrap, it would piss off a lot of Star Trek fans, as she made an appearance in one of the Star Trek movies. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, I think.)

Don't piss off Trekkers. They are legion, and they vote, and despite political preferences, when it comes to anything Trek, they are one.

Though I totally agree with you drawscore I feel I must correct you on one thing The Big E wasnt in Star trek IV that was the USS Ranger a Forrestal class Carrier I know as Ive already HAD this discussion with several other trekkies BUT The USS Ranger HAS a fantastic history of her own Military history aside Shes been in several movies The final Countdown (Still one of the BEST airiel scenes in movie history ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3XNEWtJF0o ) She was also in Top Gun. and doubled as the Big E in star trek IV
