Tied up at work

This didn't happen to me but to my roommate while in the army. He worked in a control center for all communications on our base. Before continuing, that control center was locked all the time--anyone wanting to enter would talk via the intercom with someone at a specific desk who would push a door button. While the lock was "buzzing" it was open.

Because it was manned 24-7, people working in it would eat their meals at staggered times. As I think I remember him telling it:

"Guess what happened at work today? They tied me up!"

How did they do it??

"They tied my hands behind my back with patch chords (think early 20th century telephone operators), tied my feet together, then tied my hands to my feet. They didn't do anything to me after that but leave me in a storage room for about 30 minutes."

That's called hogtieing. Why did they do it?

"You know that buzzer that says the door is unlocked? When other guys in our shop wanted in, I was being a smart ass and did it so quick they didn't have time to open the door. When I came back from dinner, they were waiting for me."

That was the topic of conversation in our room that night. Someone else volunteered that in a childhood game of cowboys and indians, their favorite target had been hogtied in an unusual way: his right wrist had been tied directly to his right ankle and same for the left.
