My honey brown hair was pinned up with a few tendrils sticking to the back of my neck. I blew another stray strand out of my face as I finally dropped the last of the cardboard boxes in my new apartment. I hadn't yet met my new roommate, but I had high hopes for Jesse. I didn't know what she was going to be like, but the rent was reasonable and the location left little to be desired. "I'll see you later," my brother Ryan said kissing my cheek.
"Bye," I said shutting and locking the front door and moving back to the boxes that filled the doorway of my room. I still had a lot of work before me. I sighed. This was a new part of my life and I had to face it boldly. So why was I so nervous about it all? Maybe because I didn't even know what my roommate looked like. Not that it mattered, I was more concerned about her personality. We had never actually spoken, but from our correspondence, she had seemed pretty nice. God that had sounded lame even in my head. I shook my head and grabbed a box. I wanted to finish unpacking as quickly as possible.
A bump from the other bedroom made me jump. Then I proceeded to do what I always yelled at people in horror movies for doing and I started to creep towards the door. I knew better. Some part of me was telling me that too. Yet I kept walking towards that door. I stopped just in front of the door and reached out to tentatively knock on it. I heard something muffled and some sounds that sounded like squirming.
"Hello?" The room on the other side of the door went silent. "I'm gonna regret this," I muttered under my breath. I reached out and opened the door slowly. My jaw dropped at what I saw. On the floor of the bedroom sat a young man bound and gagged.
