Bravado Instead of Common Sense

Postby Gemscot » Thu Mar 25, 2010 2:08 pm

Has anyone ever experienced any injuries (cuts, bruises, marks, .etc) from TUGs because the ropes were tied (accidentally) too tight?

Although the main reason we don;t use gags is the danger of choking or suffocation, another reason is the captive still has the power of speech and therefore retains responsability for telling the captor if the restraints are too tight or hurting in any way.

Someone handcuffed me too tightly once, and I still have a scar to show for it. If you get tied too tightly you can get temporary nerve damage (or worse). I met a guy once who was bound and hanging upside down by a thick chain. It broke and he had a fractured neck vertebrae. Ouch!!!

So be careful in your play; bad things can happen.

It usually been nothing more than ropes tied (accidentally) too tight - occassionally small trickles of blood have been drawn but nothing too serious.

All the more reason NOT to use gags - when the captive still has the power of speech they are responsible for telling you the restraints are too tight?

Mine is probably worse than the responses already... I was doing suspension bondage in a friend's basement about 2 years ago... I was pulled a good 5-6ft off the ground... but the cable holding me up (don't think it was a very good one) snapped... sent me flying to the ground and broke my collar bone (if you don't know what that is google it) I was in so much pain, and will probably never do suspension bondage again, unless its someone with great experience!

Yes and No, the restraints should always be checked by the person doing the tying... it is there responsibility to check that they are safe and not restricting blood flow, or are likely to cause the person too much pain. It is also the job of the captive to tell the captor/tier that the restraints are too tight... that is why you always leave the gag till last and even if you do gag them before tying them, the gag should be removed for the captor to be asked if they are comfortable and that the restraints are not too tight! :)

Makes perfect sense, if you are too get injured during TUGS play... then its either your own doing or there's! But either way, if you take the safety precautions I have said above such things wont occur... of course the rare occasion will... but it shouldn't happen!

When I was in high school. I tried a self hogtie once about two min in I got a lag cramp witch caused me to jerk my lags straight. My left hand slipped out but my right hand stayed in the loop. The loop got so tight I now have nerve damage in my right hand where I don’t have any feeling in it most of the time. The hardest part of it was telling my doctor (he knows now and well never tell anyone) what happened, otherwise I’m fine with it now and won many a bar bet with it. And can dislocate my thumb with no problem to get out of handcuffs now. But I would never suggest doing it to any one.
Let's use all the colors.

Yup! That tasted purple!

Boundgal08 is absolutely right in what he/she says - it is mutual responsability.

I'm not defending the captor or the captive, but sometimes the captor does quite innocently tie the ropes too tight quite by accident and not intention. Keep the captive ungagged prevents choking and gives them the ability to say the restraints are too tight or hurting and to ask for them slackening or removing all together.

The worst I've ever had is minor rope burns which left marks for a little while.

Anjell's leg cramp story was interesting to me, because for some reason once while doing self-bondage when I was a little younger I suddenly got a fear of what I would do if a leg cramp hit me while I was tied up. Those things are painful enough when you can stretch your legs out; it has to be really bad when you can't do that and just have to sit there with the pain, or do something like she did.

Paul (the captive) here:

I am asthmatic but it is well controlled witn an inhaler and sensible exercise (karate, football and swimming). I've had asthma attacks in karate and football, but nothing my inhaler can't cope with. I play on my school football team, and 2 years ago I fractured my right knee playing football in a match against another school.

Another reason why gags (especially sock gags - they are the most dangerous!) are never used (especially when I'm the captive) is the risk of me having an asthma attack. I have never had an asthma attack in TUGs or ever experienced anything more than a slight cut occassionally if the ropes have been too tight.

The reason for this waffle is that with "common sense instead of bravado" TUGs are the safest and most risk-free of any games.

What do you think?

Best wishes

Ever since TUGs became a part of my life, throughout the years with different partners, I've experienced some of all of the above. Luckily, thanks to learning from small incidents, none of them because serious, but I've met others with long-term disabilities created from TUGS/bondage-games gone wrong.

An example, way back when, was how tight is too tight? I learned pretty quickly never to gag someone before their hands were tied, because it makes it hard to complain - and adds extra time to fix the problem, because you have to take time to figure out she wants you to take the gag off - and do it - before you can begin fixing anything. If their having serious circulation or nerve-issues, that time is really precious.

When you tie, ask them. Sounds weird, but I use the Three Bears approach when I'm tying/cinching the final knot. Mama bear too loose, Papa bear too tight, and Baby bear - you guessed it - juuussst right! I think it makes the tie-ups more fun too, obviously depending on the scenario.

After they're tied, I learned to pinch the tips of the fingers to see if there's circulation.

I know that suspension is an obvious progression, but I've never needed to go that far to set a mood for some roleplay - hell for me, it's all foreplay and rigging someone up is a lot of work!

As for gags, I've never really used stuffing at all, and only tape on a few occasions. Duct tape hurts like hell when you take it off the face, and I never wanted (after my initial experimentation) to put my ladies through that. This helps the safety factor a TON.

If you have to use a serious gag, then put a small ball or a tissue in their hands and keep an eye on it. If they drop it, it's time to check on them very quickly.

Hope this helps - every time someone gets hurt, it makes the whole world frown on our fun.
Walk the mile first... then have the fun!

I have had some slight nerve damage in my ankles and wrists that reslted from TUGs, but I don't think there's any one incident that caused it. Rather, I was tied up quite often and sometimes also rather tightly for hours at a time. I probably spent well over a thousand hours tied up before I turned 12, another thousand or more before I turned 18, and perhaps still another thousand between the ages of 18 and 40. That's a lot of tying up - some of which I did to myself and mostly it's those self-ties that did the damage as my TUGs-mates were usually careful of me and were better tiers than *I* am.
Considering how reckless my friends and I were playing TUGs however, and considering how much torture played a role, it's almost a miracle I'm even still alive!!! :big:
As is though, I've never been really hurt as the result of any particular TUGs event. Probably as much dumb luck as any other reason though.
