This is something that I've been thinking about recently.
Due to my abstinence-only Georgia Sex-Ed and my parents completely skipping "The Talk" with me, most of my sexual education came from the internet (not porn, actual credited sources). But every once in a while I still think back to how ignorant I was.
For example, when I was around 12 or so, I was at a party and one kid (I forget the context) mentioned the word "condom". Having never heard this word before, I asked, "What's a condom?" Everyone then proceeded to laugh. But I genuinely didn't know. My parents never told me and teachers were forbidden from teaching students about condoms or how one is used.
I also freaked out the first time I masturbated because when I saw a sticky liquid substance, I immediately thought I had an STD of some sort. That's right. I actually thought I had contracted some STD without ever having had sex. Seems a bit silly to consider now, but back then I only knew of one liquid that was supposed to be coming out of there. So, you can imagine my surprise.
Anybody else totally failed by your Sex-Ed curriculum?
