Now you know how politics works.
“Collective fear stimulates herd instinct, and tends to produce ferocity toward those who are not regarded as members of the herd.”

People in general often don't realize what they are doing. They say something, they do something, most of the time in the total interest of the entire group, but sometimes hurting the individual. Unfortunately, you were the hurt individual. People make mistakes, and they don't always correct them. Perhaps if you asked them their reasons and what you think sincerely, minus the part about them being stupid :big: , they would understand how much they messed up. If they don't, then they really are idiots.

The third grade class was having their election for class president, and it came down to a contest between Johnny and Susie. Both were told to get up in front of the class, and make a two minute speech on how they would improve things if they became class president.

Johnny came prepared, and talked about his vision for a better class. When he was done, Susie got up, and said "Elect me, and my daddy will bring in free ice cream for everyone!"

Guess who won.

OK. A bit unsympathetic here: perhaps they want someone who can mount a coherent argument without swearing.

Obviously all one's opponents are arseholes and wankers but decrying them in public does not advance one's own case.

Johnny? :big:

lol, Susie.

Honestly though working in poltics in this day and age is nothing more than people trying to benefit themselves and make out with as much money as they can and who they can screw over. It takes an optimistic spirit and warps them into a bitter person fast.

Nothing crushes faith in the system faster than seeing it at work.

As for your case it's more the fact they know your qualified but will not give you it because you might actually HELP and we can't have that happen can we?

I don't often swear, actually. Usually I don't even care that much about stuff like this either. This was just a rather bad experience for a multitude of reasons, I guess.

Took about two days to fully get over it, so I'm good to go now.

Yeah, politics on this level are kind of scary. It's on the complete opposite end of the ice cream / popularity thing, it's giving a powerful position to someone because they don't know anyone / they want to get someone new involved.

Looks like I'm better off being out of it all right now anyways, though. Lots of drama in our student fee process since some clubs and student unions basically didn't get funded due to the committee's own personal biases, which they were dumb enough to record in the minutes of their meetings... Heh.

So yes, amen to that, Nemesis. :)
