Rivalry

Postby Chris12 » Mon Mar 05, 2012 8:04 am

Ryan Smith was your avarage 13 year old, He went to school, hung out with friends, went on his first few dates, played a few video games and had a strong bond with his friends.

Ryan was of normal hight for a 13 year old which meant he was still short, he had dark brown hair and still had a very boyish face.

Like i said Ryan was a normal kid and like every kid he was really, really mad when his parents decided to move to another town. He had to leave all his friends behind and start over from scratch again.

Luckily he settled in much better then he first thought and he became very popular at school with about everyone. All the boys liked him because he was good at sport and all the girls liked him because they thought he was cute. His grades where great, his new house was greater and the weather in his new hometown was absolutely fantastic.

Ryan pretty much had it perfect right now, there only was one problem.....he really really hated his neighbor.

That Neighbor was Todd a 12 year old boy, He was a bit shorter and more skinny then Ryan, had very short blond hair and a bit of a round face, Because of how warm the weather was he wore a sleevles white shirt. Ryan too had grew to wear a sleevles shirst because of the heatt although his where black.

There wheren't any real reasons why the two boys didn't like each other they just didn't. Maybe it was because Todd practickly hero worshipped Ryans older brother that Ryan disliked him, Maybe Todd didn't like it he could no longer play in the empty house next to his, anyway they just didn't like each other.

Unfortunately the two went to the same school and the same class dooming them to hang out with the same people and even worse each other, luckily they had found an easy sollution: bring the other down as much as possible!.

This eventually led to a chain reaction neither boy could stop.

For example Todd pulled down Ryans pants in front of the girls which made Ryan hang Todd to the flagpole which made Todd cover Ryans clothes whith Itchy powder during gym which led to Ryan to glue Todd's big mouth shut which made Todd glue Ryan to a chair which in turn led Ryan to steal Todds clothe and push him into a group of bullies in just his briefs which.....Well you get the picture :big:

For every action one boy would play on his rival the other boy would return with a worse prank this even led the two to downright attack each other.

Eventually Ryan got sick of it and decided to bring down Todd once and for all.

While thinking of a way to teach Todd a lesson before the tv he suddenly got a satisfied smirk, the tv had provided him with the perfect answer. The show he was watching was also about two fighting boys which eventually led to one boy ambushing the other and tying him up making the captive boy miss all his lessons which led to his suspension as the teachers believed he was skipping class.

This was perfect! If he could keep Todd captive for the entire schoolday the teachers would assume he skipped class, Todd telling them Ryan tied him up wouldn't be a problem as people would believe he was lying to get Ryan into trouble.

Not the most foolproof plan but Ryan was to young to realise that. He gathered some rope and tape before happily going to bed, believing his problems with Todd would be over soon.

The next day Ryan eagerly awaited his chance to make Todd dissapear. He came to the conclussion that the time to strike would be right after gym. Ryan would simply make sure the two of them where the last two to finish showering and changing clothes, when it where only the two of them he could easily kidnap Todd.

At 12 o clock there where done with Gym, Ryan knew they where the last class touse the locker rooms so no one would find Todd in there, when they where done changing he quickly stopped Todd from leaving the locker room.

''Hey dude i need to talk to you'' He said

'Why?'' Todd asked distrusting ''so you can push me into one of those lockers?''

''Hahahaha of course not Todd'' Ryan laughed ''Just wait for a sec''

''Fine, fine but if this is a prank then i'm gonna return in a 100 times worse'' Todd treatened.

''oh, i think not'' When he was sure their classmates had left Ryan went opened his schoolback ''I don't think you'l be doing anything for a while!'' he took out the rope.

''W-wait what is this?'' Todd asked a bit nervous ''I knew you where planning something, now what is it?''

''Its simple'' Ryan walked closer to Todd with the rope in his hands ''I'm gonna tie you up and shut your mouth with tape so you no longer get in my way''

''Your so stupid!'' Todd yelled ''You really think i'm going to let you do that!''

''No but you can't stop me!'' Ryan attacked his rival, trying to overpower him

Todd however didn't do down easy and struggled furiusly however in the end Ryan proved to be the stronger boy, leaving Todd hogtied and gagged on the floor.

''I-i knew you w-where a whimp'' a smirking Ryan panted despite having had huge trouble with overpowering Todd

''MMPHHHHHH HHHHHHHMPH!'' Todd screamed angry

''What, you wanna get out?'' Ryan asked in a teasing voice ''Well, you can't so babywaby Toddy will just have to stay this way'' his voice became extremely teasing as he patted Todds cheek.

This only made Todd scream more at him.

Well, see you later Todd'' Ryan left but suddenly stopped in the doorway ''Whoops! we still have class for the rest of the day, what will the teachers think if your not there?''

''MMPHHHHHHHHHH!'' Todd started to sound desperate, he wasn't a teachers pett in the slichtest but he couldn't afford to get in trouble either.

'Well later dude!'' Ryan left leaving Todd alone to struggle and scream with all his might.

This was a bit out of character of Ryan as he genuinly WAS a good kid and would have been disgusted at the suggestion to get another kid into trouble this way but his huge dislike of Todd made him forget this and besides Todds suspension would finally leave Ryan to enjoy a school day without worrying his rival was out to get it.

Todd while extremely pissed off understood this, he too had gone to far in his pranks and if he was the one who got this idea first he would have left a bound and gagged Ryan just like this, this didn't mean he would admit defeat though. He already knew a way to freedom he only hoped he would be able to pull it off

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I believe this is my first story where the captor and captive actively hate each others guts, still they will warm up to each other.....eventually

It has great possibilities. Just one thing:

SpellChek (or Spell Check, or Spellcheck) is your friend. Use it. There are two ways: First, type the story on a word processing program, then run it through that program's spell checker, then cut and paste it to the board. Or second, type it right here. That wavy red line under a word means it's misspelled. To correct it, place your cursor over the word and right click. The correct spelling will (usually) be displayed, along with other, similar words. This also works with "cut and paste."

But keep in mind that no spell checking program can distinguish between homonyms (flak and flack; to, too, and two, etc.) It helps to have a second set of eyes to proofread your work for you. And this is why:

I have a spelling checker.
It came with my PC.
It plainly marks for my revue,
Mistakes eye cannot sea.

I've run this poem threw it,
And I'm sure your please to no,
Its letter perfect in it's weigh,
My checker tolled me sew.

Your or my spell checker will give that a clean bill of health. Everything is spelled correctly, although there are some very obvious errors. That's why getting a proofreader is a good idea.

But there are exceptions, most involving speech patterns. For instance, we would write "Hey, what do you want to do today?" But you could replace it with "Hey, wha'cha wanna do today?" The spelling is off, but then which one sounds more like a conversation between a pair of 12-13 year old kids? Or, for that matter, 15-16 year old teens? Call it "literary license."

Don't be discouraged. You tell a good story. Just remember that writing is an acquired skill. Like any other acquired skill, practice is needed to hone and perfect it. In short, the more of it you do, the better you get at it. So, with that in mind, please continue.

I agree with Chris. There are, as I've said elsewhere, places where colloquialisms are important but it can go too far. It needs handling carefully and sensitively and for a non-native speaker could be fraught with difficulties. Chris already writes better in a foreign language than some native speakers do.

Great as always. You write my favourite kind of stories, I´m always looking forward to something new.

And I agree with xtc, it´s hard enough to write in a foreign language, using...I don´t know how something like that is called, maybe slang...needs a lot of knowledge to be used effectively. Your style is great as it is, you really went a long way there (just read your first story you wrote here and than this one, the improvement in quality is astonishing).

In short: Keep up the good work, I love it.

>>>Chris already writes better in a foreign language than some native speakers do.<<<

Agreed. English takes a few months to learn, but a lifetime to master, even for native speakers. Compound that with the two different versions of English (UK English and American English), and the differences are sometimes confusing. In the US, we call that compartment in the back of the car, a "trunk," while in UK English, it's the "boot." The front of the car is the "hood." In UK English, it is (I believe) the "bonnet." In the US, it's an "umbrella." In the UK, it's often a "brelly," or a "bumbershoot." (Both of which have those wavy red lines beneath them, because the spell checker is set to American English, and it does not recognize them. It also tells me that "favourite" is misspelled, but in the UK, that spelling is correct.)

Just when you think you've got UK English down, someone comes along and starts talking to you in American English, and you scratch your head and wonder what planet he just came from.

>>>I actually wanted to do that a few times but apart from ''wanna'' I decided against it for awhile. Writing it this hard enough and if i try that i worry it will seem ''forced'' <<<

Don't be afraid to try something new. You learn by doing. Some of our most noted and decorated generals and admirals were abysmal students at West Point and Annapolis, but they succeeded in command because they were willing to take reasonable chances. By the same token, go ahead and take the chance that it might sound "forced." Use it sparingly until you get a feel for it, then build on it. If you don't, your characters won't come across as natural, and you want your characters to sound like what they are.

As I said, writing is an acquired skill.

Ah, the common language divided . . .

American "pissed" = English "pissed off"
English "Pissed" = American "intoxicated"

We hold our trousers up with "braces", ladies hold their stockings up with "suspenders". Could be awkward if one uses the wrong garment!

Never mind, it could be worse: a "Pommie Bastard" could try asking an "Ocker" for "durex", then he'd be in trouble.

Perhaps we shouldn';t clag upi Chris's thread with this. It should probably be part of the ongoing "Tips for Writers" thread.

PS. It's "brolly" and "bumblershoot" is underlined because it doesn't exist. It is not in the OED (but neither was "crotal" some years ago!) isn't language wonderful?

You're probably right. Some of this should go over to "Tips for Writers."

Check your OED again. "Bumbershoot" does appear in the American Heritage Dictionary: "bum·ber·shoot (bŭm'-bər-shūt') n. An umbrella."

All right already, everyone. Knock it off! For all his apparent spelling errors and so on, I think Chris12 is one of the best writers in this whole site. Heck, he's about the only writer whose spelling quirks actually come across (at least to me) as humorous rather than annoying and which actually add to the charm of his stories. So let the poor kid be and let him write his stories his own way! :geek: God knows few of us could write as well in Chris's native Dutch or any other language besides English!!!
Nice story Chris. With enemies like these, who needs friends?!!! :big: Do I detect a hint of some real-life experiences here?

Todd couldn't believe this was happening, that brat Ryan managed to defeat him!

''mmmpphh! hmmmmmph! MMPHHHHH!'' Todd struggled and screamed with all his might.

''If only i can get to my phone'' He thought, all of his struggling was to get his cellphone out his pocked.

Eventually Todd managed to get his cellphone out but who would he call? He couldn't just call anyone, he had a reputation to think off. After thinking for a while Todd decided to call his friend Robin, at least he wouldn't laugh if he found him in this state.

But now came the hardest part: actually calling Robin, Todds hands where bound meaning he had to dial Robins number with his nose or chin, needless to say it verry annoying! But eventually he suceeded.

Ryan was quite proud of himself, having finally gotten the better of his rival. He still felt a bit guilty though so he told the teachers Todd wasn't feeling well and had went home.

But the great feeling Ryan had quickly turned into panic when he heard a phone ring behind him, The phone itself wasn't scary in the least it was the boy it belonged to which was the problem.

That boy was Todds best friend Robin, a thirteen year old boy with blond hair.

''Sorry i got to take this!'' Robin said and quickly left the room.

The conversation was a bit confusing to Robin, it was clear Todd was on the line but he could only hear loud ''mmmpphhhs'' Eventually he managed to decipher the words ''Ryan, yerk, lockerroom, help''

''uh, Ryan could you come to the hallway? i need your help'' Robin said.

''Hehehe allright'' Ryan laughed nervous while thinking ''oh, crap''

''Ryan, yerk, lockerroom, help'' Robin asked amused.

''Uh he got on my nerves so i...tied him up in the locker room'' Ryan admitted nervous ''Your not mad right?''

''Nah not at all'' Robin wasn't mad for two reasons, one of them was that he thought Todd kinda deserved it, the other was that the only ones who actually cared about their rivalry where the boys themselves ''But i'm still freeing him''

''That's going to be a problem'' Ryan said and quickly grabbed Robin ''No hard feelings bro, i just can't have you get in the way!'' Having a freed Todd explaining what happened to the teachers would be very bad for Ryan

''H-hey what the! heeelmmpphhh! Robin was quickly cut off by a hand over his mouth.

''Now just come allong and don't Resist!'' Ryan whispered and dragged Robin away.

Todd patiantly waited for his savior to arrive and when the door opened he saw Robin.....who was bound and gagged by Ryan.

''Geeh now i have to find an excuse for this guys dissapearance too'' Ryan sighted as he placed Robin next to Todd ''You thought this would work did you?'' he asked amused.

''MMPHHHHHH!'' Todd screamed in both anger and horror.

''But it didn't'' Ryan said teasingly ''Because you just can't win!'' he quickly grabbed Todds cellphone from the floor and took Robins phone out of his pocked.

''mmphhhh!'' Robin yelled.

''No hard feelings right?'' Ryan laughed ''I still like you but i just can't risk Toddy getting out''.

The two boys just yelled at him, there was nothing else they could do.

''Well i leave you two alone! see ya!'' Ryan left them again.

''Sorry'' Todd said muffled.

Robin just sighted, he hated being dragged into their childish fight.

The two stayed locked up for the rest of the day untill they where freed by Ryan...who also took pictures to ensure they would never tell the teachers, he also compensated Robin with 10 bucks for the inconviniance and to prevent having Robin as an enemy.

Todd however only got a nasty glare and a reminder to stay out of his way from now on.

Todd however wasn't intending to do so and already started planning his revenge, he knew both their parents would go out to dinner toghter...and since Todds parents had a spare key to Ryans house .

With that thought in mind Todd quickly made a plan that would result into Ryan being a thought a lesson  He invited Robin to join in the payback as well.

Sounds like Todd needs speed dial on his cell phone and smarter friends to call with it.
One wonders why his parents have a key to Ryan's house (landlords?), and this being the case why he didn't think of an ambush there in the first place.
Oh well... I guess everyone makes mistakes. God knows a certain Dutch Boy apparently does in his relationships. :big:

Excellent! Flows well; most of the errors of the first chapter seem to have been eliminated; and the emoticons provide a cute "touch" to the story. There are some minor punctuation errors, but nothing too big, and they are not all that noticeable. There is one very glaring redundancy, and while there are still some spelling errors, they are not as frequent as they were in the first chapter. A significant improvement. (I liked the story, too.)

Really? You must have a lot more trust in your neighbors (and they your family) than is even imaginable - let alone practiced - around here! people must be way nicer there than they are here!!! Then again, from my experiences living in a German town for two years, I guess I can believe it. I might not have found it believable otherwise. My German neighjbors were nicer than anyone that I know now in the US.
Well, when I was a kid living in the country you'd see some of that among neighbors who were friends; but not where I am now!!!

I agree with Chris, various neighbours have our house key. They feed the cat when we are away, one is the interior decortator who, being a freind, has still got his key. When The Boy was still at home, several of his freinds had the house key and he had theirs. Maybe we are just not a "normal" household. :?: - And before you make any smart remarks, look up the term "normal"! :big:

Actually, from what I can remember of when I lived in Germany, I can believe this sort of thing is more common in European households than it is in American ones. Folks in Europe seem to have retained far more elements of basic civility to one another there than we have here. That may be one reason why I enjoyed associating with people more when I was there than I ever have living in my own country (if you don't count my own small circle of friends as a teenager anyway), and especially why I keep pretty much to myself now. Too many of my fellow Americans that I encounter or work with are too much into themselves.
Anyway, I didn't mean to put such a distracting element into Chris12's thread. So, let's let Chris get on with the story!!!

''Okay boys have fun'' Todd mother said to Todd and Robin before leaving

''Will do mom'' Todd smilled ''Me and Robin are just going to watch a movie''...that was a lie since Todd would go kidnap Ryan as soon as their parents left the house.

''What movie?'' Robin smilled

''One where a jerk will gets what coming to him'' Todd said ''Lets prepare our stuff and pay Ryan a little visit.

As soon as Todd saw his and Ryans parents drive away he took out the spare key to Ryans house ''Okay Robin here's the plan'' he explained ''I'l blind restrain Ryan and you put the tape on his mouth''

''Roger! Robin said ''What's going to happen to him after that?''

''Oh, i got some ideas'' Todd got an evil glint in his eyes.

Ryan was quite happy his parents where out for the evening, it gave him time to work on the stinkbomb Todd would soon find in his room!.

After some time Ryan ran out of ingrediants so he went downstairs to get some.

''Hehe lets see how Todd will like it when i add this fish to the bomb!'' Ryan laughed ''But he stinks anyway so i do-mmpph!'''Something had grabbed Ryan and had covered his mouth ''MMPHHHHH!'' That could only be that loser Todd!''

''Oh, how i like that?!'' Todd asked while he roughened his hold ''I think not! In fact i think your gonna pay dearly for both that bomb and what you did at school!''

''mmpphhhh!'' Ryan wasn't scared, he would kick Todds ass just as before

''Shut him up would you'' Todd said and removed his hand from Ryan mouth. At first that relieved him....but then he saw Robin coming at him with duct tape.

''Robin You said you wheren't mad!'' Ryan yelled a little desperate.

''Oh, i'm not'' Robin cheerfully told him ''But i can't just let it go either''

''But i gave you ten bu-ngh!''

''Now lets see if you still have such a big mouth'' Todd teased while dragging Ryan away ''Help me move him Robin'' he ordered ''Wouldn't want or prisoner escaping!''

The two boys dragged Ryan to a chair and roughly forced him on it.

''MMPHHH!'' An angry Ryan immidiatly tried to get up but was forced back on the chair.

In a short time Ryan was tied to the chair, his legs had been bound too and he recieved a blindfolth.

''nghhhh! mhp! nmphhhhhh!'' Ryan struggled to get off the chair.

''Robin, why don't you go watch some tv'' Todd said ''Me and Ryan have some catching on to do''

''mmphhhhh!'' Ryan yelled desperate. at least Robin would be nice.

''Allright, see you guys in a minute'' He wend to the tv(which was in another room)

A verry pleased Todd started to walk circles around the chair ''Well, well, well, how things have turned out'' he laughed

Ryan didn't think it was funny at all and just screamed.

''See what happends when you start a war against me!'' Todd said ''Now let me explain a lil thing about wars: people! get! tortured!'' he yelled slapping Ryans cheeks with every word.

''MMPHHHHHH!'' Ryan screamed desperate.

''Told you, you where gonna pay'' Todd smilled ''Now get ready for the best night ever!''
