Pope Francis and homosexuality

Postby El_Llama » Thu Aug 22, 2013 5:57 am

It is a breath of fresh air from a Pope, but I still don't completely buy it after what the Archbishop of Canterbury said. He said that "homosexuals have as much right to love as any other people" one day and then 2 weeks later, he's condemning homosexuals to hell and saying that they are detrimental to society.
As Abraham Lincoln once said: "People are often misquoted on the internet!"

Unless I'm mistaken, his statement was about homosexuals in the Clergy, as they were pursuing a 'holy life,' or something to that extent. And frankly, I'm still of the mindset of 'I won't be happy with the pope until we no longer have one.'

I am not a Christian so it's not my party and therefore not my place to issue the invitations.

But . . .

If the Church ( either the Roman Church or any other) is to reserve homosexual practices, which they certainly practice, to themselves, they need to differentiate between loving relationships and abuse of the young.

Oops! This is a thread called "Jump in the Fire" isn't it?

Seems awfully odd to call him the "best pope ever" based off one thing he said.

By default he was talking about all homosexuals the church have not always been right but they have done so much good in the world with foreign aid and setting up hospitals that to tar all clergy with the same brush is wrong. Personally i agree with the poster this present pope is doing all he can to try and change things since entering office he has refused the trappings of wealth and power and proven himself to be a man of the people and i am in no way religious but the present pope is trying to make a difference

I'll give you the foreign aid and hospitals, but not that they do more good than bad. Look at their history. They have the blood of millions, if not billions of people on their hands, and they're just trying to sweep it under the carpet because they don't run the world anymore. Let's not forget the repression of scientific advancement they implemented, nor the execution of those that disagreed with them. More recently, THIS BULLSHIT (http://tinyurl.com/mj74gfl), AND THE GIGANTIC FUCKING COVER UP FOR ALL ITS CHILD-RAPING CLERGY.

Roman Mythology used to be one of the world's biggest religions, but I've never met one in person. In a few hundred years, people will probably have made a new imaginary friend.

Don't know if its true but I heard that the harsh and cold Benedict also said something like ''I don't like it but its up to you'' or something like that and everyone jumped on the ''I don't like it'' part and that what the new Francis says isn't all that different except the friendlier face saying the words.

Again, don't know if its true but its something interesting to think about.

So far I like the new pope. Francis seems like a nice guy, so nice he drives his security crazy by how often he wonders off to talk to people.

Interesting concept. if the pope is infallable and we now have one pope and a living ex pope. what happens when pope francis disagrees with what a previous pope (e.g. paul VI on contraception) said and Benedict XVI retired agrees with Paul VI, for example. Hey I'm no catholic i only have 2 daughters.
