kid gets seriously injured during the duct tape challenge

so i assume some of you guys have stumbled upon this article already, but i haven't seen any other topic about it, and i figured this is the kind of news that fits us TUG addicts.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world ... 36446.html

the whole situation is kind of ridiculous, the kids were just trying to have some fun, and we have all been teenagers at some point in our life and knows pretty well what kind of dumb shit teens are capable of doing. i myself have done more ridiculous things than this that could have resulted in much worse consequences when i was a teenager, and i have had my fair share of duct taping people or tying them down to a chair as well.
unfortunately, some times innocent fun can turn into a big living hell, and this kid proves that it's possible.

out of the may times i have played a TUG, i have experienced three times were it resulted badly, two of them because one of my friends overdid it and took it WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too far. the third time was similar to this article, but the victim only had to sew a few stings.
i have shared all those stories in the true story section at some point.

anyway, i don't think that people who are into TUGs should stop just because one kid had an accident, because we all know that it can be really fun too, but i still think we should take notes and think twice whenever we tie each other up. you wouldn't think that i person who's been restrained would be able to hurt him or herself, but accidents can happen during any kind of game.

any other opinions about this?
feel free to share

cheers

Definitely a cautionary tale, but I would equate to to the necessity of wearing a helmet when riding a bike rather than see it as a necessity to give up riding bikes altogether. I too had some TUG experiences where we did some pretty risky things (it was only the late 1960s / early 1970s however; back then cars weren't even required to have seat belts!), but the worst that ever happened was when my cousins chose a dumb place to tie me up (a public park at night) and a patrolling cop found us. Plenty of embarrassment all around and my cousins were in some legal hot water for a while but nothing worse. I could easily have wound up dead or worse in any number of situations where i was not only thoroughly bound and gagged but isolated out of sight and sound and even locked inside (one time inside a metal locker inside a locked cellar; another time inside a wooden chest - with grilles serving as air-holes fortunately although that wasn't quite what they were meant for - inside a locked closet). As much from dumb luck as anything else (though my cousins at least did take elementary precautions) i was never hurt, but it could easily have gone otherwise.
If i could do it all over again though i most definitely would; just perhaps take more sensible precautions to ensure i continued to remain unharmed. It was simply too much fun to give up as long as i had willing partners I could trust. I only stopped when that ceased to be the case.
