What are your favorite attractions?

Postby Jay Feely » Sat Jul 06, 2013 4:31 am

I like Grand Canyon in Nevada, Statue of Liberty in NYC, and the Great Wall in China. This summer, I enjoyed the Gulanyu (an island) in Xiamen, China and Temple of Heaven in Beijing, China.
You will have to subdue me to restrain me. I been a bad boy so make sure you torture me too with anything but pain.

As a history buff -- the acropolis of Athens, the forum in Rome, the walls of Constantinople (Istanbul)
Yet to visit -- Bodh Gaya in India( where the Buddha reached enlightenment)
Words, like Nature, half reveal and half conceal the soul within.

Same here. I'd also add the Italian cities of Venice and Florence to the list. I'm very interested about the cities in Asia to but they sadly have to wait a bit longer.

La Sagrada Familia, in Barcelona. I hate the Catholic Church (NOT Catholics, just the church), and yet I find myself unable to be angry inside that building.
I also agree with Chris, the Venetian canals are something you should see, if you have the time and the $10k+ it costs to spend more than 2 days there in reasonable comfort  .
Also, Greenfield Village in Dearborn, MI is quite fascinating.
I didn't choose the TUG life, the TUG life chose me.

I've so far seen more interesting sights in Europe (especially in the more famous ones in London, Paris, Pompeii, Munich, and Rome) than I have in my own country (most famous sight there was what remains of the Alamo - what a disappointment to find a major street runs right through it!). I've love to see the Grand Canyon, the Redwoods in California, Monument Valley, Yellowstone National Park, and the Grand Tetons though. I'm more interested in natural wonders than architectural ones; Europe has the US beat in that department and I've seen many of them already anyway. But except perhaps for the Alps and a few other places I think the US has Europe beat in terms of natural scenic splendor that is still relatively unspoiled.

Yes indeed; Europe is just cluttered with history - like a musty old closet no one ever bothered to clean out! :P
Just kidding; I loved it there and rubber-necked at the sights like Big Ben and the Eiffel tower like any other tourist. You've got structures that were already ancient ruins before my country was even inhabited by anyone save the 'Indians' aka Native Americans. And i find those interesting too... but to me the sight of a magnificent mountain range like the Rockies (or the Alps for that matter, which unlike the Rockies I've been to personally) or a placid lake in the forest has it all over cities like London, Paris and Rome in terms of beauty. Cities aren't well-known as places of peaceful contemplation; something that's important to a reclusive, aging, nerdy type like myself.

Favourite attraction: Alton Towers ( UK ) for the rollercoasters. I know America has better but I love a day out there.
However most posts so far seem to talk about the scenic type of attraction so... Went to Kew gardens in London last year, very impressed by some of the larger/older tree's especially the Ginko. Never been but always thought pictures i've seen of the Panama canal look impressive.
