glowing rope

Postby viking » Mon Jun 22, 2015 3:04 am

this is not actually i story about anyone being tied up, but i felt like i should share this with our community of tuggers.
i was going to post this at first in the TUGs talk section but i felt like this was something i should share with everyone (even the non members) so i decided to post it in the true story section instead (it's easier to gain forgiveness than permission).

so anyway, i just got back from my vacation. and it may not have had any bondage included but it was still a great vacation.
during my week in England i found this rope that really caught my attention. at first it seemed like just a regular yellow rope and i thought "meh, i already got a bunch of ropes at home and it's not like i will be needing any during the festival" but then i looked closer at it and noticed what was written on the package.
"glow in the dark diamond braid rope".

for real?
that was the first thing that came to mind. when i looked at the price i realized also that this rope was much cheaper than any rope back home (that is the good thing about being in other countries than my own. everything is cheaper).
also, 15 meter is more than enough for the sake of tying up a person and it seemed to be very flexible.

obviously i had to buy this. i was really curious about if it actually would glow in the dark too.
one of the first things i did when i came home was entering the darkest room in my basement, close the door and see if it actually worked.
my expectations was that it probably would have some kind of reflection if you held a flash light toward it so it would be easier to see where it was in the dark since it was meant for camping. but no, to my surprise it worked really well. as soon as i closed the door and held up the rope in the dark room it glowed so much i could see the reflection of it in a mirror.
it actually did glow in the dark. not good enough that my camera could show you the effect, but still it worked a lot better than i had expected.

imagine how much fun you could have with this during a TUG or a bondage segment. it should give some interesting effects that might make it even more fun.
i can't wait to try this out

cheers

I can imagine its intended use is for tying things like tent stakes to the ground in such a way that you won't trip over the line in the middle of the night.

But I agree it would certainly make for some interesting fun. A quick google search for "glow in the dark rope" reveals plenty of locally available kinds for us americans.

As some of us get older we have a tendency to forget where we left our captives and finding them in the dark makes it even worse; this will be a great help. Thanks for the information Viking, much appreciated...now where did I leave that latest victim...

Viking -- I never heard of glow in the dark rope but I would sure like to buy 50 feet of it. I wonder if it will loose some luminosity over time.

I wonder if it will loose some luminosity over time.

If it is like most glow-in-the-dark items it is recharged by sunlight. Leaving it in the dark for long periods will cause the luminous chemicals to break down. If that happens it will still recharge but glow for a much shorter time. If you keep it in a well lit place on a regular basis it should last quite a while.

This is one of the better ones. Their FAQ should have info on lifetime.

i don't know much about how the rope works to be honest.
like i said, i just found it by a coincidence at a stand selling camping equipments during a festival i attended in England. so TUfriend might be onto something with his theory, except i think the rope seems a little too thick to set up a normal sized tent.
but yes, it is definitely meant for camping equipment somehow.

however, from what i read on the packing it was braided with diamonds... not sure how that even is possible, and considering that 15 meters only cost me about 6 GBP i think it might be just something written on to make it seem fancy. of course i could be wrong, but as far as i know diamonds are very expensive so it seemed a little cheap. and the rope itself seemed to be very strong too, so it's not because the rope is crappy.

the cool thing is that it actually works really well.
imagine if you have a person tied up, and then you turn of the light. you will still be able to see the rope shining around the persons body.
i have seen ropes before that have added reflections into them. but they work the same way as the safety vests you have kids wear during winter so it will be easier for passing cars to spot the kid and evade running over them.
the thing about these is that you will only get a reflection if you shine a light on them.
the glow in the dark rope on the other hand actually glows.

50 feet is about the same as 15 meters, so that is the same length i have. should be more than enough for a TUG
