Mum Knows Best (M/FF)

The main character Ellie looks something like this:

"And remember, this is the most important thing, do not open the door to anyone while we're gone. Are you listening Ellie?"
"Yes." I mutter, really I'm trying to focus on Pretty Little Liars.
"It doesn't sound like you're paying attention. Put that on pause and listen." My mum drones.
I pause the telly.
"Ok, what?"
"When your father and I are gone tonight you are not to open the door to anyone. If the bell rings just ignore it."
"Mum, I'm seventeen. I think I can be trusted to open a door to someone."
"Not when there's been countless burglaries around here over the last few weeks. Do you want that to happen to us?"
I roll my eyes. "No."
"Ok then." My mum steps forward and kisses me on my cheek which I hate. "Be good darling. There's some pizza in the fridge for you. We shouldn't be home too late, around midnight probably."
"Ok mum, now just go!"
My dad smiles and my mum applies some last minute perfume before they wave goodbye and drive off to some engagement party for the night.
I get my Iphone out my pocket and ring Jess.

"Hey Jess. My parents have gone so fancy coming over in about an hour? We can watch a movie or something. Ok great, see you soon. Bye babe."

I go upstairs to my room, shower and dress in a plain white T-shirt, some navy shorts and white socks. I go into the kitchen and grab a packet of salt and vinegar crisps to keep me going until Jess gets here.
I settle back down on the couch and unpause the telly. Around 20 minutes later the doorbell goes.
I freeze. I don't think it can be Jess - she usually takes ages to get ready to go anywhere and she'd be half an hour too early anyway. I decide to ignore it, just like mum wanted even though it's completely stupid. The bell rings again, almost daring me to go and answer the door.

I creep up to the lounge window where you can see the front entrance to the house from and peek behind the curtain. There is a man standing there; he looks as though he's in his forties, slightly overweight with a plain black T-shirt and jeans on. He's got a shaven head which he's scratching. He goes to ring the bell again and then looks right at me. I close the curtain and hide, back against the wall, heart beating fast.
"Hello?" I hear him say. "Hello? Please, I saw you, my car has broken down and I'm looking for my dog Chrissie. He's only a pup and he's gone missing."
I hesitate and then go to the door. Sod what mum said, this guy is clearly in a bit of trouble.
I open the door and he smiles.

"Sorry, I just like to check sometimes who is at the door!" I mumble, awkwardly.

"Don't worry - I'd do the same! Can I come in and use your phone? I'm just going to call the wife and let her know where I am. She'll be worried sick; she loves Chrissie."

He looks at me pleadingly and I hesitate. It's one thing to open the door to a stranger but to let him into the house after everything mum said makes me nervous.

"Look I promise I'm not some nutter out to get you!" He laughs and I laugh back but I still don't feel right.

"I'll only be 3 minutes; I'll ring breakdown service after my wife and they can come and sort the car out then I'll leave you in peace."

I cave in. "Go on then, the phone's in the kitchen." I point him in the right direction and he goes and uses the phone.

I stand awkwardly by the kitchen door while he talks.

"Hello love. Yeah, I'm just at someone's house on Creswall Street. The car's only gone and bust hasn't it? Yeah. Yeah, I'll give them a call now. Ok love, bye."

"Everything ok?" I ask from the doorway.

"Yeah fine thanks. I'll just ring the breakdown service now, only I've forgotten the number!" He looks at me expectantly.

"That's ok; I'll go and get my phone and Google it for you."

"Thanks love!" He beams at me.

I go into the lounge and get my mobile. I have a text from Jess: 'Running a little late. Be there within the hour xxxx' I roll my eyes and walk back into the kitchen.

I look up from the phone and notice that the man isn't there.

I frown in confusion.

"Hello?" I turn to go back into the hallway and I'm suddenly grabbed from behind. I freeze up in shock as a hand is placed firmly over my mouth. It smells oily and manly.

"whampph!"? I mutter.

"Shhh. Just relax sweetheart." The man mutters. I'm suddenly terrified and my heart is racing at a hundred miles an hour.

He's twisting one of my arms behind me with his other hand.

"Now if you do exactly what I say you won't be harmed. Is that understood?"

I nod, eyes wide above his palm. Tears are forming in my eyes.

"Now I want you to lead the way upstairs to your bedroom and just to let you know I have a weapon on me so do exactly as I say."

I nod, breathing heavily as I begin to lead the way upstairs and into my bedroom, all the while he is twisting my arm and I feel something pressing into my back.

When we get into my room he tells me to lie on my double bed face down and put my hands behind my back. I do it quickly, tears now rolling down my cheek.

"Don't cry sweetie. I'm not going to hurt you. I just want to get this done as quickly as possible with no fuss.

I sob as he climbs onto the bed.

"Now I'm going to tie you up just to keep you out the way nice and easy until I do what I want to do."

I sob again at the thought of it but I decide that this will all be over with if I just do what he asks.

He ties my wrists together tightly behind my back with white cotton rope and then he ties my feet and knees together securely. He sits me up and begins wrapping rope around my torso, above and below my breasts, pinning my elbows behind me securely.

"Please, take what you want and just go. " I mumble.

"I will do sweetheart just as soon as I have you bound up securely." He pulls on the ropes to clinch them and tighten them all up and I wince.

He pushes me back down onto the bed so I'm on my stomach again.

"Now that ought to hold you. I'm sorry about this love but it was very foolish of you to let a total stranger into your house, especially when you're home alone."

I snarl at him. "You lied to me" I say bitterly.

He laughs. "I admit I did. Sorry about that love. Now just lie there and be quiet while I take a look around this house."
He leaves my room and closes the door.

At first I lie there, letting the tears roll down my cheek but then I decide to give it some fight and struggle. I twist and turn my wrists but the ropes aren't budging. I kick my feet and legs but they're equally bound as tight. I'm trussed up like a caught fish - absolutely helpless and the tears come again.

I lie there still and hear the sound of cars outside my window. My window is open! If I can wriggle my way over to it I can maybe shout for help if anyone is passing by. With all my might I manage to struggle so I'm sat upright, bound feet dangling over the edge of the bed. With another grunt I manage to stand up and then I can hop, slowly to the window. I'm trying to be as quiet as possible in case the burglar hears me. I reach the window and stand, looking out but no one is there. It's completely dead outside. I frown, tears filling my eyes again but then I see him. Mr Andrews, one of the people whole live on our street is out walking his dog. He's not on my side of the road though. so I'm going to have to shout pretty loud to attract his attention. I go to try and bang on the window but I then realise my wrists are bound tightly behind me, making it impossible. I bite my lip in frustration. I bang my head slowly against the window but that's useless. Then I panic and just start shouting at the top of my lungs.

"HELLLLLLLLLLLP!!!!" I scream but he doesn't hear me. I look closely and to my dismay see her has his earphones in. Then my door opens and the burglar sees me.

"I thought I heard some noise up here." He says and walks towards me.

"Go away!" I scream at him as he grabs me, picks me up and throws me back onto the bed.

"I trusted you to keep out my way and this is how you repay me!?" He sounds angry. "I guess I'm going to have to tie you up a little bit tighter then."

"No, please, I promise I'll just stay here on the bed now."

"Too late sweetheart. I can't trust you now."

He picks up more rope and ties my wrists to my ankles in a hogtie. Now I really am helpless.

"That will keep you out the way for sure this time. But I'm not going to take any more chances."

He grabs one of my pillows and takes it out the case.

"What are you doing?" I whimper.

He stretches the pillow case before my eyes. "I'm going to have to put a gag on you sweetheart."

A gag. I think, horrified.

"No, please, honestly I'll be really quiet now."

He ignores me. "Open that mouth of yours."

I do as I'm told and he ties the fabric tightly between my lips and ties it at the back of my head so I can't spit it out.

"I'm sorry I had to do that but you gave me no choice. Now I'm going to finish off having a look around. Don't give me any more trouble." He pats my head and leaves me completely helpless.

I don't even bother to struggle as the ropes aren't budging but I do try and wedge the gag out of my mouth by rubbing it onto the bed. It's tied too tightly though and I can't do it which makes me even more frustrated.

Around 20 minutes goes by and then I hear the doorbell.

Jess. I think, horrified.

I twist and struggle even though it's useless.

The burglar comes back into my room.

"There's a pretty girl around your age at the door. And who may that be?" He asks.

"Myphh phwend" I mumble.

He pulls the gag out so it's dangling by my neck.

"I didn't quite catch that."

"It's my friend Jess. Please don't hurt her. Just open the door and tell her you're my uncle and that I've come down with a nasty temperature or something!"

"Now why would I do that when I have plenty more rope for her?"

"No!" I cry "Please don't. She's done nothing wrong!"

"But I can't let you have all the fun." He said teasingly.

"Please. Just don-mphhh"

He places the gag back in my mouth and goes downstairs.

I hear Jess come inside the house and some conversation between the two. I scream through the gag.
"Ellie?" I hear Jess as she's coming up the stairs.

"Ellie? What's going on? Your uncle said you were up here and-"

She stops in her tracks in the doorway as she sees me lying hogtied and gagged on my bed. My eyes are wide and there's tears rolling down my cheeks.

She's wearing a tight pink top that goes down to her belly button, patterned navy jeans and pink socks. Her dark, smooth hair falls about her neck and her hazelnut eyes are wide in shock.

"Oh my God what the h-mphhh"

The burglar places a hand over her mouth to silence her.

Within ten minutes Jess is lying next to me, hogtied just as tightly. I can smell her coconutty perfume. She seems scared but not as scared as me and she certainly isn't crying.

"Ok sweetie. As you can see, your little friend here had to be gagged to shut her up. I don't think I'll take the chance with you either."

He produces a red bandana from a bag and ties it between Jess's lips tightly. She looks at me and I have to admit she looks pretty damn good all tied up and gagged like this.

"Ok. Now I'm going to finish off downstairs. Have fun you two."

He leaves us and Jess begins to squirm.

"I donphh belivemphh thish" She mumbles.

"Imphh sorry" I mutter back.

She struggles a bit but her ropes are tied very tight.

It's not long before the burglar comes back.

"Ok lovelies. I think I've got everything I need but before I go I want to have a little fun."

He sits down on the bed next to us as we whimper into our gags.

"One of you lucky ladies is going to come and have a bit of....fun with me in the next room."

"Nommmphh!" we scream into our gags.

"Eenie, Meenie, Minie, Moe..." He waves his finger between us, and it lands on Jess.

"I've always preferred a brunette anyway." He winks.

He unties Jess's hogtie rope, picks her up and places her over his shoulder. She's screaming and trying to kick him but she's utterly helpless. I scream as well in horror but I'm completely trapped in my ropes.

He takes her out the room and shuts the door.

I lie panting on my bed, crying and cursing my own stupidity. Because I didn't listen to mum the house has been burgled and now my best friend is probably being abused in the next room. I don't think I'll ever be able to forgive myself.

After around ten minutes the door opens and I'm completely shocked by what I see.

The burglar, Jess (who is now untied and is smiling!) and my parents stand there looking at me.

"Whaphh" I say.

"Oh dear, Ellie." My mum says. "What did I tell you about opening the door to a stranger?"

Jess walks over and unties my gag.

"What the hell is going on?!" I ask.

"This isn't a real burglar Ellie. My dad says. He's a colleague of mine from the office. His name is Steve."

I look at Steve and he's smiling. "Sorry sweetheart!"

"I don't understand." I say.

"We knew you wouldn't listen when we told you not to open the door. Ellie, this is a serious thing. There's been 3 burglaries in the last month in the area. 2 of them the family were in the house and they were tied up."

"So you staged this to teach me a lesson?!" I ask, incredulously.

"Yes. And has it taught you anything?" My dad asks.

"I can't believe this! And what about you Jess?"

"I was in on it too. What do you think of my acting skills?" She smiles.

"Is someone going to untie me at least?" I ask.

"Oops, sorry love." Steve says and cuts me free with a pair of scissors.

"Because you didn't listen to me our house could actually have been burgled and your friend could have been well....do you see what I mean now?" Mum says.

"Yes. I guess it's a lesson learnt, even if it was extreme!"I laugh.

"I wasn't planning on gagging you but I got a bit worried that one of the neighbours might hear you! Your daughter can scream alright!" Steve says and we all laugh.

"Anyway, we didn't actually have a party to go to tonight and it's still early so here's some money. Go the cinema and something to eat with Jess. I'm sure you two have quite an appetite now!" Mum laughs.

We went to the cinema and saw a chick flick. It was a great night in the end except for one really awkward moment when I was paying for the popcorn.

I got my money out my purse and saw the woman behind the counter looking at me weirdly.

"Those are some nasty marks you have on your wrists there." She says.

I look at my wrists and she's right. There's a deep rope mark on both of them!

I blush. "Must have slept funny on them!" I say. The woman frowns in suspicion as I walk quickly back to where Jess is sitting.

The end.
