How safe?

Postby Gemscot » Fri May 24, 2013 7:32 am

The first time I tied Paul up he'd be 5 (just turning 6) and I was 12. I tied the ropes very gently, and although we didn't time it, he'd be tied for about 10-15 minutes.

Do members think he was too young and/or tied too long?

What's the youngest other members have been tied up?

I was 6, give or take a year. It was pretty short and not extremely tight. Today I could be out probably in 30 seconds. At the time I was too young to really understand how to get loose.

Since then, the ropes have got tighter and the games longer but we've never hand any serious injuries.

I was around 8 for my first time. At the time, my best friend was a kid named Mike, and we joined cub scouts together. We also played a lot of "cowboys and Indians," and frequently tied each other up, along with several other kids, mostly between 7 and 11. None of us could tie worth a damn, except maybe for Billy, 10, Mike's older brother, and 11 year old Randy, who had just graduated from cub scouts into boy scouts.

I can't even remember the first time as a definite event, so certainly before I was five (by my older brother and some of his friends - most of whom were closer to my age than to his).

Although by the time I was tied up I was already 14 as I have recounted here I have on some occasions tied up an 8 year old. As long as one is careful with how tight it is and how long it is, it is perfectly safe. Of course, you might want to be careful with who finds out.

That one point probably deserves a topic of its own.

Challenging a friend usually works well. Invite one over, and have a DVD running, where someone gets tied. An offhand comment, such as "Damn! Even I could get out of that!" would be an effective challenge, unless your friend is dumber than an anvil.

Having a cat would help to explain why you have a length of rope laying around in plain sight. If asked, you just say "Oh, I use that to play with the cat." Duct tape might be a little harder to explain.
