There's overall more people with submissive tendencies. Why that is, I'm sure many psychologists have dissected. Personally I'm a switch and simply get different things out of either role, but I understand that for some people, one is just really far more appealing or natural than the other.
However, I suggest to everyone to at least try to take on the other role a couple of times, as it gives you a better understanding of what the experience gives or should give to everyone involved and what aspects you truly do enjoy about it.
Generally speaking, being dominant is also the more active role, you have to think of what to do with someone, stay in charge, actually be creative and secure enough to be sure that the other party is enjoying themselves, make sure that they are safe, etc., so in purely the sense of having to make decisions, make plans and so on, it's definitely the more challenging role. However, the submissive role also comes with things that might not come easy to people and a lot of trust that you have to put into the dominant.
