Very promising start thought this story reminds me of Davy Jones' ship The Flying Dutchman from Pirates Of The Caribbean.

Also initial rank is slave? Yeah we're a family but we do have a hierarchy. Not saying that's what they meant but to a guy whose pretty much lost everything we ever held dear and told his rank is that of a slave is kinda like rubbing salt in the wound.

Nice story development and good transitions. Flying Dutchman has been around longer than Disney but since you are probably familiar with the opera of that name, I suspect you know that.
Starting out as a slave is only putting a word on a common British practice when they didn't find enough sailors to man a ship, so they used a "press gang" of sailors to go ashore and kidnap as many men as they needed, only letting them out after the ship was well at sea (usually on a 2 year voyage or so. They had a choice: Join he crew or start swimming. Slave in all but word. So you're not far off.

I am aware of the practice by English sailors to artificially gain members by destroying their ships and rounding up the survivors and "impressing" them into the crew.

Also I was familer with The Flying Dutchman but only it's name. It was the movies that taught me more about it.

The "Press" was a legal activity practiced by the Royal Navy.
Surprisingly, many pirate ships seemed to be run on more democratic lines.
Calico Jack Rackham (whose jolly roger Tony2 uses as an avatar) even had two famous women pirates, Anne Bonny and Mary Read, in his crew.

Ahhh I apologize xtc. It has been sometime since I read about that particular practice in the UK's history other than it was most well-known during The War Of 1812.

Wow, didn't expect to get feedback so soon. Thanks everyone!

Yea, I am not really familiar with much of how they(the British navy) incorporated slaves onto their ships. This series was actually inspired in part my the anime series One Piece, though there are many differences.

Nemesis: the Flying Dutchman is a myth that tells of a ghostly ship that forever wanders the seas, never making port. It is said that sighting the ship is a bad omen for any sailors. It is seen in several shows, such as Spongebob Squarepants, Pirates of the Caribbean(as you mentioned), and is even later revealed in One Piece. I won't say whether or not the Eternity is inspired from it. Search for the Wikipedia Article if you want to know more.

when I was teaching HS, I set my computer to play it about 2 min before the bell. The kids loved it and so did I since I meant every word for them. Thought you'd enjoy it as well.

Yea it was a good song. It just wasn't where I got the title for my story. I didnt just choose that title on a whim, though.

I wouldn't expect so. That phrase can cut two ways: Like the song OR like the doom of the Flying Dutchman. I'm looking forward to see how you develop this great kernel...

Hey guys!

I also wanted to let you know that I am working on the next chapters for my other two stories. Sorry for the long wait. I have been a bit under the weather for a while, and haven't really had the motivation to write much. No worries! There is still more ghosts and snow TUGs coming!

Chad, I lov how this is developing. Well done by introducing a few characters who then set the stage for later. Remember, there still is a spot for you in the Amazon.... keep writing (grin)

Chad, I can not for anything in the world understand why I haven't found this story earlier! I just read it now, and boy did I like it!

I say that this is a story that has potential, and I would really like to see any twists and turn in this story should you decide to continue with it.

So far the three chapters have made me increasigly interested in this story, and I will sure support it in the future! :odd:

Hey guys,

Yea, I haven't updated in a while. Just been preoccupied with other things, like reading A Song of Ice and Fire books or playing games in my free time. I haven't forgotten about my stories, just been taking a break from writing.

Hum: Thanks for that. I know sometimes it's hard to discover new stories on here. Kind wish this section is organized like the rest. I am also looking forward to the next chapter of The Broken Slave.

One more thing: I was debating on the idea, but now I think I just want to keep it M/M. I am gonna add the tags to the story.

Re: Forever Young: Bound to the Sea [M/M] - Chapter 3 Availa

Postby HumHumming » Mon Sep 29, 2014 9:36 am

Yeah I proably shouldn't say this, but I think I might've gotten back some inspiration to write on that story. Now I'll just see how long it keeps up :worried: I know just how hard it is to write when you simply are too preocupied or don't have the motivation.

And about keeping it M/M, it's only you who can amke that decision. And I as a reader sure wouldn't mind that. At least with the relationshhip between Lon and Clen I could definitely see that happening. But I shouldn't influence you too much, you are the deciding factor in that matter.

Reading this kinda makes me wish I was bound to this ship sailing the seas for eternity maybe but with some cute guys to keep me company well...I don't think I'd mind it.
