From simple to complex

I wonder how many people have moved from simple kind of TUGs to complex? Growing up in Vietnam, ropes and cloth were the main materials the guys used on me and my friends at school. I was introduced to tape at only say fifteen years old. Not that Vietnam was that backward but ropes were the easiest to find--we didn't really have to buy. There were hardly any story books to gather ideas from; so we made our own games until I started reading English story books like the Hardy Boys and Famous Five (which I felt had hardly any tie-ups for girls) in my mid teens.

I guess that studying overseas in America transported me into a whole new world TUGs like jumping across a a large ditch. I found that there were different kinds tape, was introduced to handcuffs, the zip-ties and plastic cuffs. In my Sophomore year I discovered what leather cuffs and medical restraints were. Simultaneously, I probably tried new gags--ball gags which I hated, panel and penis and tube gags that turned me on, and then even a chastity belt which was a little large for me. Legirons, chains, crotch ropes all came in the months after.

Do you stay with the same kind of materials or shift to others as to grow older.

I think the materials are determined more by the scene at hand and the desires of the person doing the tying. There's two trains of thought: bondage (usually rope) because it looks good and also offers the possibility of escape; and restraint, where you have something else in mind (teasing, pinching <insert kinky "torture" here>) and you want to keep the person helplessly "restrained".

When you start to think about it that way, you see the two trains of thought collide a lot when you play with a partner. Doctor/nurse roleplay isn't the same with rope, just like burglars don't carry expensive leather cuffs with them. I think it's only a progression as people want to try new things imho.
Walk the mile first... then have the fun!

Before I knew what bondage was I never did any hogties or cinched the rope or what not in the middle. It was just toy handcuffs, some string, tied at the hands and ankles, maybe Id tie them to a pole or a chair but never really got complex untill I saw some of the things on the internet and after that I started using rigger techniques and they work out incredibly well. I think the first time I hogtied someone was when I was 13 and I just couldnt stop. I got 4 cousins hogtied, my sister, and my girl friend. I loved that position and couldnt believe Ive never thought of it before.
