Classic Stories

Postby xtc » Thu Sep 06, 2012 9:31 am

How about a section for "classic stories" from the various sections of our site?
Newcommers would have a resource for finding the best of our past contributions without having to take pot luck.
Problem: I don't know how such classic stories should be selected.
Any ideas?

By voting?

Wouldn't it take a while to vote on every story that would be on the section?

Perhaps it could work on a nomination basis.
Then, following nomination and seconding, coould a group or dictator decide?
Any better ideas?

Xtc, I am very much liking your idea.
In fact, I do not know if you have been following some of our discussion in the "this site has really lost its greatness" thread, but your idea seems to go hand in hand with what Jason, myself and some others would like to put forward.

Coming up with a guide on how to write good/involving stories and offering various links to the some of the best stories on the forum as an example is what we are aiming at.

Would you participate in helping us plan and compose this guide ?
We might then be able to gather some of our website favorites and offer as examples to new members interested in writing their own TUG stories.

What makes a story a "classic?", and who makes the decision?

A reminder that, like many writers, I am of the opinion that all my stories are "classics," and everybody else's stories are a bunch of illiterate gibberish. Of course, I am quite sure that others think the same thing about their own writings.

But I have an excuse: I'm an egotistical wise ass. :-)

I too have an excuse: I have impecable taste and what's more I am never wrong. (Why isn't there an emoticon for "superior expression"?)

Please I would like there to be no disputes over this important subject. I honestly think Jason Toddman has written some excellent Classical style stories but alas for myself I doubt any I have originally written here ever would fall into that category.

I would like to second Xtc's idea of working this out by nomination and popular votes.
I will give a few examples of some of the stories I believe to be "classic" a bit later on.

Xtc, Jason T, Scottstud94 and Barefootethan (to name a few) have really writen some fantastic stuff.

I agree with TUfriend but it doesn't look as if that's what the "Hall of Fame" is for.
I thank Bondagefreak for including my name in his list but those writers cover only a very narrow aspect of this site. Any "Classic Stories" category would need to be representative of all categories from the board.

Yes, shootbinladen has also written some good stuff...so many others as well !
The only way to work this out if to nominate and vote.
Perhaps we can take some time to think about this some more before proposing something else.

In the mean time, a few of us and hopefully more, will begin working on the forum guide that was discussed a bit earlier during the week. Here we can make contributions to the guide: http://www.tieupgames.net/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=17600
