Part 2 -
A second boy, one I didn't recognise, came out of the house into the garden.
He grinned at us in what he must have thought was a seductive way.
Tom sighed. "Gabe, this is my neighbour Alexis and her friend Millie. Girls, this is my friend Gabe."
His voice sounded like he was wanting to run away.
Millie was staring at Gabe with irritation. "did you call us "foxes"?"
Gabe shrugged. "Sure I did. S'what you are, isn't it?"
Millie managed to contain her rage and gave him a sickly sweet smile. "If you say so." She turned to me. "Come on, Al. Let's continue with our game."
Gabe burst out laughing, and we turned to face him.
"What's so funny?" I asked.
He smirked. "You. Thinking you can play football. Girls can't do that."
"Uh oh," Tom murmured, trying to back away, but Millie pulled him back.
She was glaring at Gabe with outrage.
"Who says?" she growled.
Gabe grinned. "Nature, isn't it? Boys are stronger, smarter, faster."
"Thicker," I added, causing Millie to giggle.
"You know what?" Millie said. "We challenge you. Girls vs boys."
"You're on," Gabe replied with a confident smile. "When we win, you have to do what we say." The glint in his eyes gave us an idea about what that would entail if he won.
Millie shuddered, but I forced a smile. "And if we win, you have to do what we say."
Gabe snorted, but held out his hand. "Deal."
I shook it, and turned back to Millie.
