I absolutely love how this fiasco got swept under the rug mere hours after it surfaced.

This is first-past-the-post voting at its worst. Can we get rid of this disgusting two party system yet so people like Sanders can actually have a chance?

Just disgusting to see how the DNC treated him and basically rigged this election for Hillary.

Would you like a coalition government like the UK had between 2010-2015? That wasn't great either.

Watch this.

Basically, we can think of it like this. We're in a two party system because each person only gets one vote, and whoever has the most votes wins. There may be ten candidates to begin with, but if two of them get 30% of the vote and the remaining 8 get 5% each, that's not exactly a majority of the population who prefers whichever candidate goes on to win. Therefore, the ones with 5% all have their voters pledge to the two leading candidates... Which ends in a two party system. Which, again, is terrible, because now you're going to have essentially half the population pissed off at whoever wins (and possibly more, because really only 30% of the population actually wanted that person to begin with).

The problem is you can have two extremists who get 50% each, but one middle party person who, say, people on both sides can somewhat agree on to make a 75% total. Because we only get one vote, however, and Trump supporters hate Hillary (and vice-versa), that third party candidate who has bipartisan support gets shut out. The better a third party candidate does, the more it hurts its own voters.

It's completely stupid, but what pisses me off even more is that the DNC literally did everything in their power to swing things to Hillary's side, away from Bernie.

The problem is that this would require a complete Constitutional overhaul. Huge portions of the thing would need to be rewritten. And Constitutional amendments take a large amount of widespread support. Government elites like the system how it is.

Sometimes, people get more than one vote, and/or party operatives conspire to deny the majority its preferred candidate. For proof, one need not look any further than the presidential election of 2000, in which Bush defeated Gore in Florida, by 500 some odd votes out of around nine million cast.

Eight years later, Republican Norm Coleman appeared to have been re-elected to his Minnesota senate seat by 700 votes, but Democrat state elections supervisor Mark Ritchie somehow managed to "keep counting until the Democrat wins," and, as a result, we got Stuart Smalley (aka Al Franken) as the new senator, and the 60th vote in the senate for Obamacare.

Four years ago, in Ohio (I think), Mellowese Richardson was caught voting for Obama five times, in five different precincts. A local judge did not take kindly to voting fraud, and sentenced her to five years in jail. An appeals court judge was more lenient, and reduced her sentence to probation. At the state Democratic convention, Richardson was an honored guest, and wildly cheered by the attendees, an indication of how Ohio Democrats feel about election fraud, when it's committed in favor of their party.

And while Chicago is most noted for it, there are other cities and states where the dead vote in droves. Usually for Democrats, but Republicans have their share of dead voters, too.

Oh, and going back to the 2000 election, it is a little known fact, that if Gore had won in his home state of Tennessee, it would have put him over the top, and the mess in Florida would not have been a factor. It can be argued, that the people of his own state - the ones that knew him best - rejected him in favor of Bush.

It would be nice if "one person, one vote" was a reality. In some cases, it is, but in others, it is not. I don't think there's been an honest election in this country since 1956. (Well, maybe 1984, when Reagan won 49 states. (Kind of hard to cheat when a president was that popular.)

Holy cow what a huge pile of bull. Norm Coleman never "appeared to have been re-elected", and in fact lost the recount decisively, before dragging it out in legal entanglements for as long as he could get away with. There's getting your story wrong, and then there's flat-out making stuff up.

Again, outright crap. Literally the only place repeating this fantasy is Breitbart, and if you don't think they have a credibility problem I can't help you. Both parties rightfully scorned her. Bonus points for trying to somehow make one case emblematic of "the other guys" though.

I wasn't aware basic math was "little known", but what also would have put him over the top was someone putting an end to the GOP shenanigans in Florida in the first place.

Misterg792000 has been suspended for a while, so i am unlocking this thread again in hopes that the rest of us can keep this conversation civil. After all, near as i can see it is not the original poster's fault that this topic became a dumpster fire. So I am giving this thread a second chance.
