Voting Update

Postby drawscore » Wed Oct 05, 2016 5:12 am

Because of the high voter turnout expected for the coming presidential election, voting has been extended one day. Republicans and conservatives should vote on November 8; Democrats and liberals, on November 9.

Yes, that was like when someone suggested that we in Britain should drive on the right. In order to reduce the confusion caused by such a sudden change, for the first day only HGVs would drive o the right.

You know, you're quite prophetic DS. Trump just came up with the same idea as you did. Sort of.

Drawscore, you have a bone to pick with Hillary supporters, right? Go find a YouTube comment section to insult people in. Or maybe I could just watch you while you start WW3 with North Korea. Or maybe he'll just nuke Europe instead. goo.gl/guu4ah

Lol or let Hillary win and she'll deny it happened.... ignore the questions or destroy the evidence

If there are enough idiots to elect Hillary Clinton, she will continue to run the country into the ground, and invite North Korea to nuke Japan, Alasks, and Hawaii. I truly believe we will be at war within a year of the start of a Clinton presidency.

Disagree with us all you like, but kindly do not call us idiots. Seeing that the only other choice is a demagogue like Trump, you're really in no position to call any of us names. If you prefer to vote for Trump then do so, but don't go yelling it was all rigged if and when Trump loses. I detested Bush Jr. and still think he was the worst President ever, but Trump would be vastly worse.

Bush wasn't nearly as bad as Carter.

And, if not an idiot, what would you call someone who would vote for a candidate, whose careless handling of classified material, potentially put the national security of the US at risk?

Except we never entered into a shooting war the entire time Carter was President; though I think we should have made an exception for Iran at the time.
And you talk about Clinton's careless handling of classified material? Trump keeps asking what is the point of having nuclear weapons if you don't use them!! He'd nuke whoever he doesn't like if he had his way.

Up to you, as long as we're civil about it.
It'd be nice though if you could back up your statements instead of continuing to spout conservative talking points with absolutely nothing original on your part to indicate why you have the beliefs you have or make the statements that you do. You almost never if ever seem to do that.

Again, a blanket statement that only indicates that what you say is mere projection on your part. You say Liberals and Democrats do not care about facts? I have a degree in general science, pal! I trained to be a middle-school science teacher! I edited various (local) science magazines for years. My whole life was involved in dealing with facts, bub! You want to talk a out who cares about facts?!
Who thinks the Earth is only 6000 years?
Who thinks President Obama is a Kenya-born Muslim?
Who thinks Climate Change is a hoax?
Who shut down the government for several days to defend some point they lost anyway; costing the US economy three times NASA's entire annual budget?
Who thinks that woman who are raped can will themselves to not get pregnant?
Who wants to remove funding from NASA satellites that study Earth's climate?
Who says "I've heard people say..." is sufficient reason to say something off the cuff on a subject they obviously know nothing about?
Who says, "Well, I'm not a scientist, but..." thinking that qualifies them to say anything about science?
Who says America is having the worst economic crisis since ever when all statistics show otherwise?
Who says the Bible is the divine Word of God and is unwilling to listen to any evidence to the contrary?
Who insists on blocking laws that have given equal rights to women, non-whites, non-heteros, non-Christians, and citizens not born in the USA?
Who blames all their problems on Muslims and Mexicans instead of taking personal responsibility for their own choices?
Who wants to increase spending on a military that already has a budget larger than the ten next largest military budgets combined while taking money away from people depending on welfare and food stamps to survive?
Which party wants to do away with Social security and Medicare the same way they screwed over private pensions?
Who wants to de-fund the public schools, make all schools pay as you go, and cut the salaries of teachers everywhere?
Which party has actually suggested rolling back child labor laws?
Which party has wanted to remove the discussion of Evolution from science textbooks all across the country?

If you think it's the Liberals and Democrats who say or do any of these things, then you are living in a world of total make-believe!
And if you insist I can cite numerous independent sources for each and every point I stated above.
Not that this would impress you, because we both know who really doesn't give two hoots in Hell about facts, now don't we?!

Gee, Jason, if the Republican party really wanted to do all the things you say they want to do, Carter would have been elected to a second term, Mondale would have followed, then, probably Bensen. The upside, is that Slick Willy and Hil LIAR y would probably never have gotten out of Arkansas.

You know its a bit funny. My sister in law is a life long conservative.
I spoke with her yesterday and she revealed her utter horror at Trump.
She said her father, who was a retired NCO must be spinning in his grave.

Using the principle of not being an asshole to people in pain, I came up
with a solution for her. I told her she might consider writing in the name
of California's former Governor George Dukemejian for president.
I hoped this helped.

As for me, I sent in my mail in ballot. Even though I would have
wanted other choices, I voted for Hilary.

A writer named Quentin Crisp wrote of his quest for a "tall dark man"
who would be the perfect lover and protect him. He would up saying
that this was futile and there was no tall dark man.

There is no tall dark man in politics either. We can only look
at what is and make our choices accordingly.

Drawscore, if Trump gets in he'll be bad for me and mine,
but for you he'll be a cyanide salad sandwich. He is against
the good order of everything you've ever worked for.

Mark this well,
James

Being fair, they didn't go totally off the rails until after Reagan. A lot of this is more recent.

I never said the entire Republican party though. I am only talking about the extreme right-wing, Tea-Party mad hatters and ultra-conservatives; of which Drawscore at least sometimes seems to most relate to. Many of them DO believe most if not all of these. I am not referring to, as DS likes to call them, the rank-and-file conservative; just the evangelicals and other extremists that support trump and/or the Tea Party crowd. They might not be a majority of the GOP, but they are a sizable and extremely noisy minority and most responsible for someone like Trump running for President in th first place.
And all of the things i mentioned are opinions that have been publicly stated by the likes of Ted Cruz, Paul Ryan, Louis Gohmert, and numerous other ultra-conservatives in state and federal government. Again, i can supply numerous sources for each and every one, though you can also easily Google them too if you prefer to do your own research, which someone with an unbiased mind should always do anyway.

Quite so. I never said the GOP was always like this. In fact I voted for Reagan both times myself! I even voted for Bush Senior the first time he ran. I think I voted for him the second time too; I don't recall. I only started voting consistently Democratic in the 1990s, and didn't firmly resolve to continue doing so until George Bush Jr ran for office. The GOP once made sense to me but, especially since 2000, has - as you said - gone off the rails and have gotten steadily worse ever since.
If we had someone like Teddy Roosevelt or Dwight D Eisenhower running for office again, I'd vote for them over hillary without hesitation. probably even Nixon had that whole Watergate thing not happened. But narcissistic demagogues like Trump or evangelical anti-science nutjobs like Cruz or social conservatives like Kasich will never again get my vote.
The governor of my state, Paul LePage, is essentially a Trump mini-me. He's now considered by many the worst and most controversial governor of any state! You really do not someone like that running the whole country! You really don't!!!

Except for the whole Iran crisis deal he was unable to resolve, so what if Carter was re-elected? The mess the economy was in when he was President was not entirely of his doing, any more than the 2008 recession was Obama's. His was in many respects a successful presidency; the only one in my adult lifetime in which we were engaged in no shooting wars anywhere in the world (though as i said Iran should have been made an exception). He didn't start the Iran hostage crisis; that was created by previous administrations who toppled Iran's previous government and put in the shah of Iran. So when he was ill and the Ayatollah took over, the USA was hated and blamed for the Shah being in power; which indeed the US had done.
US caused regime change in Iran, Iraq, central America, the middle east, and elsewhere has never done anything but cause us trouble; and carter is one of the very few presidents of the later half of the 20th century who never engaged in it.
Don't get me wrong; I voted against him myself when he ran for a second term; at the time i thought he was a wimpy president. But he was a better president than Bush junior ever was or ever could have been, and actually if he were the same age as before I'd vote for him now over Hillary (let alone trump). But he isn't and I can't, so there you go. I don't like Hillary either, but unfortunately it's her or trump. If I'm at the dentists's office andI have to choose between getting a filling (Hillary) or a root canal (Trump), I'll definitely go for the filling!

"As you wish. But when Hillary's Supreme Court comes along and squashes your 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th amendment constitutional rights, remember that "I told you so!"

And if Hillary wins and these warnings do NOT come to pass, will you remember this then?!

Except for the 2nd amendment (which personally I don't give 'two hoots in hell' about because I never owned a gun and I never want to even touch one ever again), those rights were already largely taken away from us by the Patriot Act - under George Bush Junior. And the 2nd amendment has been misrepresented to the point of absurdity. The NSA, CIA, FBI, and even local police often violate the 4th one on a routine basis, and the fifth one is essentially meaningless anyway and always has been; since just pleading the Fifth is usually taken as an admission of guilt of some kind.

As I recall, you and your conservative friends uttered some pretty dire predictions about what Obama's second term would bring about. Not only did none of those dire predictions come to pass, but the results were even better than what Romney himself promised if he became President. Unemployment is lower than Romney promised for one thing. Conservatives yammer about military spending being cut, but in actuality it has never been higher! Violent crime has dropped considerably in most places; the economy is improving; anemically at best but it's improving.

Now, do you have anything concrete and verifiable to add to this conversation, or are baseless accusations and innuendos without a shred of evidence all you've got?! Because up to now that's all you've added; or, as far as I can see, have ever added. For someone who brags about how good he is at debates, I've seen absolutely no proof of your skills as a debater. I don't consider myself a great one either, but as near as I can see I'm way better at presenting my side than you seem to be presenting yours! And offhand I can think of half a dozen members here who are way better at it than *I* am!

"I truly believe we will be in a war within a year if Hillary Clinton is elected."

Oh and so Trump won't?

Also, trumps losing ground. There's now a full 10% lead on Hillary. Neither are perfect or even remotely qualified.

P.S. Don't shame people for their opinions. Seriously. Calling someone an idiot because they don't share an opinion that you have is silly. You get called an idiot if you vote for Trump. Same for Hillary. Same for neither. Don't start 'insulting' other people because it makes you look like you can't have a civilised debate with someone without resorting to this. Yes it isn't a bad insult but the theory is the same.

Bye :)
