Let's talk about the Duct Tape Challenge.

The Duct Tape Challenge, as we all know, is a growing trend among social media sites. The idea is simple: Duct tape someone to a chair, wall, pole, or just in general, and the person who is duct taped has to escape in a certain amount of time.

This idea is nothing new. It's been working its way around platforms like YouTube for a few years now. So why am I talking about it? Within these Duct Tape Challenge Videos, I have begun to see a subset of videos that involve a person being duct taped and left alone. This usually takes the form of taping the person up in an inescapable position, only to say something like, "Well, I've got some errands to run! See ya!", and then leaving the person like that for hours.

Whether this is a legitimate "prank" or if the scenario was staged for views is uncertain, though most of the videos involve the prankster checking the time on their phone and heading back home to a pissed off friend or sibling making it seems like most of them are actually real.

Best I can tell it originated with this upload from a popular YouTube channel:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0dmqqtKnHQ
Since then, multiple channels have been trying their hand at it.

This is extremely dangerous. Leaving someone who is tied or taped up in a state of helplessness alone could be life threatening. What if there's a fire and the person can't evacuate? Or if they're gagged with something, what if they can't breath properly and suffocate? They would have no way of seeking help.

I have nothing against kids doing the Duct Tape Challenge. It's fun for them and provides the likes of us with TUG's to marvel at. But if you're going to do it, please be responsible about it.
There is only one God, and his name is Death. And there is only one thing we say to Death: Not today.

I would almost suggest that its a combination of some people seeing that video either first or second, because the jerk of YouTube, Jake Paul also did a similar challenge where he duct taped his "girlfriend" to the wall and pranked her. He at the time worked with the Dolan twins and they are the ones who suggested he do it. All the little kids are now doing exactly what he does and most of it is stupid, or against some law or rule, and they also do not have common sense at all, this would also include Jake Paul, as he does not have common sense either. Some suggest that the Dolan Twins are only famous because of Jake Paul. But who really knows for sure.

That being said, I agree with everything else you have mentioned here.

Glad to see a thread about this. I have a lot of things to say about Duct Tape Challenge videos as well.

Particularly about why it caught on and how some of those YouTuber's seem to enjoy taping/ being taped up....sometimes I think it's more than YouTuber's wanting to piggayback off a #challenge trend to become famous but that's just my opinion and for another discussion

While duct tape is one of the safest bondage restraints there's still risks involved (restricted breathing from being wrapped to tight, dehydration, tape pulling off hair when removed, what to do when nature calls, etc....) and agree 100% about the safety concerns of leaving someone taped up which is a bad idea. I saw a video made by some other YouTubers where a guy was taped upside down to the bottom of a table with a pillow placed underneath him just in case he fell. Points for being imaginative but what if he did fall to the floor and injure himself? I don't think those videos are uploaded when something like that goes wrong scripted or not...

Then, there's this sad story: https://www.today.com/parents/teen-seve ... wry-t69631 I heard one newscaster refer to duct tape challenges as a "dangerous trend resulting in cruel assault" which nearly made me facepalm since the bondage community has enough judgmental and critical labels slapped on it. Despite the popularity of 50 Shades there's still many people who will quickly label bondage as abuse or worse.

Even in that Dolan Twins vid; he looks dehydrated and very fatigued (or could be waking up from falling asleep, hard to tell) when they return hours later despite being a healthy and fit guy.

I'm all for bondage fun but many times people making these duct tape challenge videos are amateurs who aren't aware of safety or jumping on the duct tape challenge bandwagon so they go viral. I don't understand why some YouTuber's are even famous in the first place other than being hot considering some of the dumb things they do.

That said; for all the dumb DT challenge videos out there, there's a few good ones and a few hot one's even. But those people should be uploading their videos to Xtube since YT is deleting videos that can be considered sexual content, especially since YT has been cracking down on M/M content for some reason...

I think some of the users on here would be excellent ambassadors of our lifestyle. We could have tuggers produce videos on safety like is often done for the S/M community. Thats how we move into the the publics favor; engaging them with reasoned discussion

I'm not sure how many of our users will actually want to make that type of video and post it on YouTube. Also even if they do then there is a potential for it to either not get very popular, or it will get popular and YouTube will remove it for some unknown reason. But you could prove me wrong, by doing one of yourself for the community and we will see how well it does.

I do like your idea, but I do not believe it will work at the moment. I think we really need the millennials, and younger generations to start/ continue taking over the world/ government before something like this will work.

It can be relatively safe if common sense is used. Someone got hurt because a lot of people have the insane idea it's okay to tape up someone's arms and legs while they're standing up. It shouldn't take a high level of intellect to figure out how that could be a safety hazard.

I appreciate your skepticism solarbeast, but I do think it's misplaced in this instance. As we learn more about sensory deprivation therapy, it follows that our techniques will be adopted to treat anxious people. We can assist this movement.
