It was the end of my final exam, history, and I felt I had done well. Recently all I’d been able to really concentrate on was my studies and just doing as well as I can. As I walked out of the slightly chilly exam hall feeling a strong sense of pride in myself, my attention turned to driving home and chilling mainly. Just as these thoughts wandered into my head, I felt my arm nudged and as I turned to look at the person who initiated the action and approached me, I was a little surprised to see the beautiful Gemma beside me.
“Hey, umm, sorry if this appears cheeky or anything but do you drive? As with all these books and folders I brought in today, I was wondering if I could have a lift from you?” she smiled, twirling a strand of her fiery red hair as she looked at me deep in the eyes.
“Yeah sure, that’s no problem” I replied. Being more of a shy personality, especially with people I didn’t know as well as my friends, I wasn’t really that much of a conversation person as honestly I just didn’t know what to say half the time.
After declining the fuel money she was willing to pay, she soon walked with me, mostly talking about the exam, towards my slightly old but still in relatively good condition car. Sure many wouldn’t pick it as the best in the college car-park but I was happy with it…I suppose you could say me and my car had a lot in common.
As soon as we got in and I began driving we began to talk about our lives. She had broken up with her boyfriend for a few months now and whilst he was doing what most stereotypical ‘lads’ do, sleeping around half of the local neighbourhood, she wanted something a little more stable and loyal.
“So what about you? Is there a girl you have your eye on” she smiled after her mini monologue.
“Well I did have my eye on Susan as the whole school probably knows, but we’re supposedly just friends now so I guess you could say I am on the hunt for more of a successful story” I said smiling in response before continuing. “Look, as much as she is my friend here and I am as loyal as I possibly can be, to friend-zone me at the last minute like that was a bit humiliating if I’m honest. It left a bad taste in my mouth and getting funny whenever I’m rumoured to be near a girl? That’s not right, there’s a lot of stuff many people who think they are experts on the subject don’t know and its just…I don’t want to be a backup option” I smiled, finishing my mini rant as Gemma rested one of her tender palms on my shoulder.
“Hey its okay, I don’t claim to be an expert or anything but I guessed from that moment that it wasn’t going to be the full story. I’ve seen the way she acts with you sometimes and it’s not right. Picking you up and dropping you at a moment’s notice? that must suck. You see, this is why I wanted a lift from you today.” She said smiling as I looked at her un-expectantly.
“Oh I see, what was your real reason?” I asked as we stopped in a line of traffic.
“Well it’s you. I’ve seen the way you glance at me sometimes in lesson. We have a connection, I’m sure of it and if you like as the leaving party is in a week’s time, why don’t me and you go show that girl just what she missed out on.” She smiled blushing slightly as she took a breath before continuing. “I really like you. Today is our last official day. I didn’t want us to be strangers, what would you say? How do you feel?” she said slightly nervously, realising her hand was across my chest and removing it quickly in a slightly embarrassed manner.
“What do I feel? I’d be very happy with that. I…I can’t really believe you knew just from my glances, of course” I smiled, still a little in shock but really pleased with this trusting gesture of hers.
“That’s great” she smiled kissing me on the lips. This unknown to her was my first proper kiss and as the sensation seemed to transport through my body, she eventually broke it with a little curve-ball. “Of course I have something else to tell you now we have agreed and we trust each-other.” She smiled, blushing slightly before adding “I have a little secret desire”.
