one final thing to say about the matter
barack obama is OUR president now, and he has to lead us. John McCain is history
We began this journey with obama in the depths of winter nearly three years ago, on the steps of the Old State Capitol in Springfield, Illinois.
I also knew this. I knew that the size of our challenges had outgrown the smallness of our politics. I believed that Democrats and Republicans and Americans of every political stripe were hungry for new ideas, new leadership, and a new kind of politics – That's why we can't afford to slow down or sit back. We can not let up for one day, or one minute, or one second in this world. Not now, not when there is so much at stake.
I ask of you what has been asked of Americans throughout our history, I ask you to believe. Not just in Obama's ability to bring about change, but in yours. I know this change is possible. I've seen it, I've seen it over the last 36 months. I have had the privilege to see what is best in America. I've seen it in the lines of voters that stretched around schools and churches. In the young people who have cast their ballots for the very first time. And those not so young folks, who have gotten involved again after a very long time. I've seen it in the faces of the countless men and women that I have seen at rallies around our nation. Men and women who speak of their struggles, but also of their hopes, and their dreams.
Hope that lead those good people who could vote to march and organize, and stand for freedom. That lead them to cry out 'It may look dark tonight, but if I hold on to hope, tomorrow will be brighter' That's the choice we face right now. Don't believe for a second that this fight is over, don't think for a minute that power concedes. We have a lot of work to do, we have to work like our lives depend on it in these next few months, because it DOES depend on it in this next few months. We can choose hope over fear, and unity over division. The promise of change over the power of the status quo. We can come together as one nation, and one people, and once more, choose our better history.
That's what's at stake, that is what we are fighting for. And in these next few months, you will make some calls, and talk to neighbors, and convince friends that there is hope, and you will stand with the president and fight with him and give him your okay, then I promose you, we will unite this country, and change this country for the better, and change the world.
God bless you, God bless the United States of America.
Lets get to work.
-Barack Obama
