Thanks so bloody much

Postby 31acujoker » Thu Jun 09, 2016 4:54 am

Well..... it's so nice to know that all those nights I stayed up were worth it, it's wonderful that I've received so much appreciation for the countless hours I put into writing stories on this fucking site. Can't even tell you how good that makes me feel, I mean all the feedback I got (oh wait, there wasn't any! Silly me!), all the appreciation (oops, none of that either!) and all the encouragement (huh, that's a fuckin' laugh!), it's all just so touching.

Really, thank you all so fucking much, I'm out of here, glad to know all my effort was worth it, you ungrateful shits...

Even though this is somewhat graceless, I can sympathise with 31acujoker.

However, looking at two recent longer stories, I can see that one garnered three respondents and another four. I would be glad if the first episodes of all my stories gained as many as three responses.

I appreciate that we writers don't HAVE to post here but some appreciation given the number of page-views per story would be encouraging to say the least. What do people think: are members more likely to read long stories as one-offs, long stories posted in episodes or short stories?

Well... many people stoped because of the huge lack of feedback... some understood it was useless to post here... like me or my sister I mean her most recent story only had its first comment 2 two weeks after and clearly she didn't give a shit anymore and even if a part 2 was asked she probably won't do it..

So yes...feedback is a rare pearl here...

I can relate; to some extent. It's one of the reasons i stopped writing stories here myself, though it's not the only one by any means. A few people inquired and urged me to continue at first, but not all too many. And lately it's gotten so i don't even read any stories here myself, even from authors I used to follow. The passion i used to have for writing stories here is just plain gone, and i don't know if it will ever return.
But I don't put the blame on anyone else for that. i just simply assumed my stories aren't the kind that people here want to read; it's not their fault if the things that most interest me is not what interests them. After all, however well written many stories here are (notably xtc's of all the people who have commented on this thread), they just don't interest me all that much anymore. But again that's on me; not anyone else.
So as i said i can relate... to some extent. I think 31acujoker takes the blaming of others a tad too far however; but perhaps that's just my opinion.

I think this about sums it up. I've only ever posted one story on here, but I can imagine that as a frequent author the lack of feedback must be annoying.

For some unknown reason people on this forum just don't reply that much. Even on threads in the TUG's Talk section, a post can have 400+ views, but only 9 comments. If a topic genuinely interests me or I have something to add to the conversation I will usually post my thoughts. So what's happening here? It's not like we don't all share a common interest. Do these people just not want to take the time? Do they not have anything original to say? Do they not speak English?

So, it stands to reason that if this trend is found in the standard discussion boards of this forum, then the same behavior would extend to the story board. Except the case for the story board seems to be that people are posting even less feedback than usual. It could just be the fact that people don't want to take the time to read a long story. As much as I hate when people criticize my generation, the internet has created this need for instant gratification, and when we have to hold our attention for any suspended period of time we quickly lose interest. And not mustering the willpower to finish a story or follow along with a series could lead to a decrease in feedback. That's my theory anyway.

It does suck. Putting so much time and effort into something, only to have it completely ignored or taken for granted without appreciation would be significantly angering, and I can see why he's frustrated.

There is a lot that makes sense here, SolidS, but please beware of statements such as, "Do they not speak English". Many contributors to this site have English as a second (or even third, etc) language and their understanding holds its own alongside that of the native speakers. It is worth considering a large proportion of the people who view stories on this forum are guests, and while in itself there is nothing wrong with this, guests cannot give feedback on a story. While the world is an accepting place there are likely those who do not feel they want to sign up to a site of this nature. It is tempting to point out that creating an account leaves little more information than visiting the site but still. This means even if they do enjoy a story, they are unlikely to make an account just to state their opinion of it.

I wish there was some easy way around this, allowing guests to post is obviously a no go due to potential spam but even a like/dislike system of some sort might at least help this slightly.

Just an idea.

Take right now for example, there are 11 registered users online and 52 guests.
I have seen the ratio of registered users to guests far poorer previously.

Postby BoundBoyBeta » Thu Jun 09, 2016 3:30 pm

Yeah unfortunately such a system probably wouldn't help the issue much, it could even make it worse.
I was on this forum a long time before I even considered making an account, I just... didn't feel the need to.
I could read cool stories, which was at the time the only reason I was here, with no reason to make an account. This forum is a brilliant community but it does honestly seem to be dwindling... Just add a banner at the top of the site for guests...
Make it say:
"JOIN US, WE HAZ FREE VIRTUAL COOKIEZ!!!!"
Well they might notice the word virtual...
"JOIN US, AND TOGETHER WE CAN RULE THE-"
Nah that has been done...
"Join us, your feedback keeps us aliveeeee we need the feedbackkkkkk, give us feedback pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeee"
Well that isn't exactly subtle.

There isn't really a solution to this problem that wouldn't cause even more problems...

What... I can't only make good contributions... I need to submit awesomely stupid ideas too...
Honestly there isn't any reason people shouldn't make accounts.
All this website requires is an email... It doesn't take long to make a new email account just for the forum if you are that paranoid.
Does it really hurt to make an account to post feedback on some of the truly brilliant stories on here?
If it does hurt, you should go see a doctor, because that ain't meant to happen.

I am just going to say what we all know and haven't said. The reason we have so many guests and so few users is because the guests are people just looking for a quick wank and many of the registered users have little to no experience in a lot of the content of this site. Some users just do an AMA and get attention poured on them while some users try to engage others only to be reminded there is no one really here.

This is also a good point, and while it didn't immediately come to my mind I do believe you are right, at least partially.

As long as we're being real here, I think it's fair to say a vast number of people read the stories that are posted here purely for sexual pleasure. It doesn't matter if the account is fiction or nonfiction, so long as it gets the job done. And I'm not going to pretend that I'm exempt from that group of people. I get a kick out of it just as much as the next guy. While there are various sentimental aspects of bondage, especially in the presence of a willing partner, we can't ignore the fact that a big part of the equation is the erotic nature of it.

What I don't understand is how when this site has so much to offer people in great masses will still hold off on registering and continue to browse as guests. Perhaps it could be for the reasons listed above, such as one's fear of putting themselves out there. I was much in the same boat, having first discovered this site about 3 years ago, but not making an account until about a year ago. Also, if I'm not mistaken, when one is browsing as a guest they only see the stories archive and nothing else. This was also my case. As far as I knew the board was a place solely reserved for tie up stories. I didn't know that there was a discussion forum, or a pictures forum, or a video forum, or a place where people could talk about whatever was on their mind. In fact the only reasoning I saw for making an account (which is why it took so long) was the ability to view certain members profiles and stories.

So, while your argument is brutally honest and most definitely does apply to a lot of people, I still like to give them the benefit of the doubt and site some other possible reasons. Maybe that's just me giving people too much credit, but I think if every guest that browsed this site knew what was really available here then they would be more inclined to participate. I'm not suggesting opening all functionality to guests, but perhaps the admins could allure to the fact that some of this other content exists in an effort to bring in more users.

I agree with a lot of the points made, and probably all of them are contributing factors to why people don't comment very often. With me, it's just that very few stories on this site include the kinds of content which I'm interested in (m/m, foot/sock domination, stuff gags etc.) when I first open a story I skim read it first and see if any words pop out at me, but if the story doesnt catch my interest I simply leave the page without completing the story.
If however I do find a story which ticks most of the boxes and I think it's well written then I'll leave a comment asking for more. But as I said earlier, very few stories interest me enough to leave a comment.
So sometimes it's just down to personal taste.

That's a problem with the viewing system, you never know if they have read the full story, or read a few lines/paragraphs and thought it wasn't for them and left.

I still write quite a few stories, anywhere from three to six a week, but they are for specific members by request. I post very few of them publicly because I am at the point where I am only trying to make one person happy and I can do that in a PM. I love writing and will continue with the aim of fulfilling someone's desires and I no longer care about the lack of feedback.

I thank the few members who have become my friends for keeping me motivated and for providing me with the seeds to grow new stories for them.

Well, since we are talking about userd and guests, I would like that you guys have attention for what happened to me before. I found this forum like one year ago, at first I was only reading the stories, but less than a week after, I wanted to join the site and participate on the converasations (I already participate on other several forums non-TUGs related and I had lots of fun, and I wondered how much fun would be the talks here about bondage! Of course I would like to join)! But unfortunately, i think this forum had (or still is having, I really dont know) a problem when someone is making the account. I did my account corretly, but when I finished it and looked to my confirmation e-mail, I never received it. I tried to re-send it over and over again without sucess. I tried to make a new account and a different e-mail and I had the same problem. After several tries, I gave up and I spent my time only reading the stories and conversations. For the next 6 months.

After a while, I tried again to register myself without sucesses. My lucky was because I recognized Mr. Xtc from here on the site DeviantArt. I had an account in there since I am an artist and we exchanged some messages together. Only after I noticed that it was the same Xtc from here and he was a moderator. So I sent him a note to help me to sent the activation e-mail. Xtc did an amazing job and was really attentious, and because his efforts, I finally got (somehow) the activation e-mail and finally I am here talking with your guys.

My point is: maybe some of those guests are having the same problem to register themselfs to the site, and they dont know how to make contact with the moderators (I also tried it without sucess before I found Xtc). Maybe there is no problem with the site either, but would be good to at least check it.

About the stories, I totally understand that too. I know how much the feedback is important for the writer, specially when he had so much work to keep the people interteined. I didnt put a story here on this forum because my english is really poor, so it dows not worth to do it, but I wrote several stories (fan fics and original stories) on my own language in my country foruns and I know how much a comment is important. That's why whatever story that I read, I make sure to put a comment. Believe me, I already received on the past message from writers thanking me for my comment and they did had the inspiration to continue the story again (at least for a while, my comments alone did not was enough to make him keep going to write).

Another problem that I think here is that most of the comments that the writer receives are too much simple, you know? Like "Oh! Really good story! Please, continue!". I dont know if for you guys is enough, but for me is not. I make sure to comment in details what I though of the atory so far, like commenting my favorite part so far, the personality of the characters, the way that they were tied up, the situation and what I expect from the nest chapters. I think this is how to make a good critic of a story, and I am sure that one writer wiuld love to receive this kind of feed back.

Sorry for the long message xD.

I agree that you should write for yourself, perhaps even more than for the people. I certianly enjoyed writing the stories I wrote, but it does get old sharing your work week in and week out only to have no response from the people youre sharing it with. Writing is a form of entertainment, and while you should do it for yourself, you ARE entertaining an audience, and if that audience responds poorly, or not at all, the it is disheartening to continue.

And as far as your stories go, dont wait. Share what you have with us. After all, thats what this forum is about.

Here's a little something to brighten up this conversation:

Onodera, chadmc90 and myself are pioneering a project which should, in theory, help augment the review:view ratio by a considerable factor.

DETAILS HERE: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=27617

In short, we're putting together a catalogue (in cooperation with one of the mods (hopefully all of them soon)) which will facilitate story-searching.
We're creating a TUGs story catalogue, in which authors will be able to advertise their works or the works of other members.

Instead of going section by section hoping to find a story that meets your needs, you'll simply be able to browse the catalogue and look at the story summaries and their keywords/tags to find something you're interested in.

Say for example you're really into bondage involving women and ballgags, you'll simply be able to browse the catalogue for F/F stories featuring the keywords "ballgags". The "SEARCH THIS TOPIC" tool at the top of each thread will make it even easier to locate story ads featuring specific keywords.
If you're into M/M stories involving socks, you'll just need to go on the catalogue and type "socks" in the SEARCH THIS TOPIC" engine and voilĂ ! You'll get a list of all the story ads with the word "socks" in the summary or in the story tags. All you'll need to do after that is filter through the ads to find the M/M stories.

In time, this'll become a valuable tool and a efficient story-search engine.
Great for readers AND writers!
Readers will be able to find stuff they wanna read, quickly and efficiently, while writers will be able to advertise their works, therefore drawing the attention of their target audiences.

I sometimes find myself stumbling upon stories several months after they've been published and quickly write a comment, only to find out that the author stopped writing because of low feedback.
The forum contains SO MANY stories and threads, that it's impossible to catch all of them before they slip off the active topics list.

Many writers here are also discouraged because they get lots of views but low feedback.
Guests DO account for a large portion of the reads we get here, but we also need to take in consideration how many of us open up a story, only to click "Back" after reading a paragraph or two. I know I'm not the only one...

Often times, the work isn't bad, it's just that it's NOT what we're looking for. The story just doesn't feature the stuff we're interested in.
We keep opening and closing threads, hoping to find stuff of interest...meanwhile the authors who wrote those tales are discouraged because of the low review:view ratio their stories are garnering. Lots of clicks but few comments...

This is where the catalogue comes in.

When you post your story ad on the catalogue, you're gonna be sending a CLEAR message to your target audience (those interested in the stuff that's featured in your story). You'll be able to include a story summary in the ad, as well as write a listing of keywords/tags that can be associated with the content of your story, ex: panties, sockgags, bandanas, cowboys, nurse, leather, kidnap, etc.

The catalogue has the potential of yielding good results.
Think about it!
Users who open your story by using the catalogue, are more likely to have a genuine interest in the material contained within it than those who are going from post-to-post, looking for stories.
The more interested readers you have, the more reviews your story will obtain.

The catalogue will be launched very shortly and I'd like to take this time to encourage all the authors on here to use this new tool to advertise their works. AlexUSA has agreed to help us promote the catalogue by giving it some visibility. If the catalogue becomes a Global Announcement, it will quickly garner lots of ads and reads...and hopefully influence the review:view ratio our stories are getting.
