Liberal Democrat Loses Election to . . . A Penguin??

Well, it happened in Edinburgh, Scotland, but could it be a sign of things to come here in the USA??

And please note that I did not pull this off of some conservative website. It came from AOL, which is partnered with the Huffington Post, hardly a conservative-friendly site.

Shouldn't this be in general chat, rather than in here?

I mean, this is hardly serious.

Six of one; a half dozen of the other. It was political, so I thought this would be the better location. Besides, if I put it in General Chat, someone would probably have said it belongs here, so it was more or less of a coin flip.

Naw, I'd say it belongs here... especially considering Drawscore's probable motives for posting this in the first place.
As for a man in a penguin outfit (not an actual penguin as the title seems to imply) winning some local election across the pond using some fancy stunt... so what?

I am actually quite annoyed by this.
Not because I am a Liberal Democrat sympathiser
Not because I hate penguins (I don't hate penguins)
But because, where I live (only just over 100 miles from Edinburgh!) a mannequin WAS running for election (that's right; a dummy runs...) and it was seized indefinitely by the police! This was surely because Councillors in the area complained as they were probably going to lose to it!
Having said that, my heart-felt congratulations to said Penguin.

And as this is my first post for a few months, I think I have to say in this post:
Yes, I intend to make my re-appearance permanent this time.
I have a BIT more time and a new Internet Connection (which is still unreliable, but hey-ho)

Sounds to me like whoever won was a dummy anyway!
Actually the original definition of dummy wasn't someone who was stupid but someone who was mute (until people decided one meant the other anyway), so I guess that means the arrest was successful because the dummy was unable to speak up for himself or invoked his right to be silent!

Games, don't feel too bad. We have city and town councilmen (and the voters that elect them) that have the brains of kumquats here in the US, too. One bright young man out in California wanted to find out just how bereft of brains his town councilmen were, and circulated a petition in the town to ban "di-hydrogen monoxide," calling it a "dangerous chemical compound, involved with several dozen drownings in the state in the last two years."

It actually passed the first reading, and was up for a second reading, when it dawned on someone on the town staff, that "di" is a prefix meaning "two," and "mono" is a prefix meaning "one." Two parts hydrogen, plus one part oxygen, is H2O. H2O is water.

All of which probably doesn't even come close to setting a record for sheer outrageous-ness when it comes to frivolous lawsuits in this tort-addled country!!!
