On the user control panel, for editing avatars there doesn't appear to be the option to upload a photo from one's own files. Is there some esoteric technique that I've forgotten about?

No, nothing special or hidden their. What I had to do is upload my pic to a server I have and then use a HTML link to get it working...

That makes sense... but it's odd that, though I can't remember how I uploaded my present picture, I certainly didn't do it your way.

There use to be a way to do this without having to go through all of that. You use to be able to upload directly from your own photos stored on your computer.
I wish it was that way again.

There used to be a tab in user profile that enabled you to do this, but it seems to have disappeared now. As you can see, I used one of my own drawings for an avatar and simply uploaded it from my own files.

A rping friend drew mine. She also drew my signature too and has lots of requests on the other forum site we use. I simply copied the image from her website to here.

As others have noted, it used to be possible to do what you want, but that option seems to have gone away for some reason. I'm about to try an esoteric technique as an experiment.

BTW, as long as you're editing your profile, are you still a student? You had mentioned your job in your recent series of stories (and let me say that I love your writing), but I'm aware that you could still be a graduate student.

Yes, I believe it should work. You can still upload a photo as an attachment to a post. So if you don't have access to another website to post your photo, you can attach it to a forum post, then right click on it and do Copy Image Location (or your browser's equivalent of this Firefox option). The URL to the photo in my previous post is:

http://www.tieupgames.net/download/file.php?id=4787

My avatar is grandfathered, as it were, but if I did need to change it, I see no reason why I couldn't use the above URL.

Yes. I am essentially a professional student :o)

I had thought of doing this, so it’s a “Well done!” to you for confirming it.

PS. It didn’t work :o(
Oh well, we tried :o)
