Game of Thrones

Any GoT fans around? :D if so who's your favourite character and why? Do you support a particular house? And who do you think will end up on the Iron Throne come the end of the series?

I'll start I guess, favourite character is Stannis because he's down-to-earth and doesn't take crap from anyone, and he is the rightful king when all's said and done. I DID support House Stark until a certain wedding took place, and at the end I think either Daenerys or Stannis will sit on the Iron Throne, if not them, then Jon Snow.

My favourite character is Lord Bayliss, because of how much of a sneak and a scumbag he is.

I'm going to assume you're talking about the show and not the books, but I'm basing my answer on both.

Tyrion is the best character ever. Possibly the best character ever written. House Martel is by far my favorite, though. They have no stigma against bastards, they give women full succession rights (which no other house does), and they don't give two shits about people's sexuality. Renly and Loras had to be discreet. Oberyn says, "Yeah I fuck men if I feel like it. You got something to say about that?" I want Danaerys to take the throne (especially after her "I want to break the wheel" speech in this week's episode. But I don't think she will. I like TV Stannis (he's much more badass and likeable than book Stannis). But I don't think he'll survive the to end. Jon Snow is an outside chance (I am a supporter of the R+L=J theory), but only alongside Dany. My pick for the Iron Throne? Shereen Baratheon as queen married to Rickon Stark as prince consort. Or Gendry will come back and take it. Dany will stay as queen of Mereen.

Who do I think will survive to the end? Danaerys, Tyrion, Brienne, Littlefinger, Sansa, Bran Stark and Summer (in some form, possibly as one being), Myrcella, Sam Tarly, Gilly and Little Sam, Margaery Tyrell, Shereen, Rickon (and Shaggydog), Pod, some of the Sand Snakes (but not all), Dolorous Edd, Ghost, Gendry.

Who do I think will die? Cersei, Jamie, Stannis, Stannis' wife, Melisandre, Arya (and her missing wolf), Theon, Roose and Ramsay Bolton, Varys, Jorah, Tommen, High Sparrow, Ser Loras Tyrell, Bronn, Robin Aryn, at least two of the dragons (if not all three), Hodor

Not sure about: Olenna Tyrell, Mace Tyrell, Doran Martel, Night's King, Meera Reed, Asha/Yara Greyjoy

I can't really talk about Jon Snow until I see how the season plays out.

My favorite characters have always been Varys the Spider and Tywin Lanister.

Vary's is a nice change of phase. Rather then being corrupt he's a councilor that is trying to serve the common good and unlike the Starks he's very intelligent in doing so. Despite his good goals and lack of cruelty he's still pretty morally ambiguous, about everyone seems to fear Varys and at times he shows exactly why that is. He's also very funny in a more reserved way then Tyrion is.

Tywin is a jerk but he's an extremely competent jerk. He's just so efficient at what he does and is clearly the true leader of the realm. He was so in the backstory, he was so under Robert when the show starts and once more under his grandsons. He's also the best acted character in the series.

I tend to hate characters that are like Stannis. He's self righteous and overly harsh for trivial reasons which never sit well with me in characters but...I like Stannis.

I never quite found myself rooting for the Starks. They keep making bad decisions when they, and everyone connected to them is going to pay the price for that despite being warned about it. I also see a certain lack of morality in their honor. When Ned gets told that choosing his rightful heir Stannis is to unleash a war on Westeros he basically says ''Then we shall have a war''

I'm really curious how the show will handle itself because as of next season they will have run out of books to adapt.

Cool guys, so for those who saw it, what are your thoughts on the battle at Hardhome? :D

I for one was almost crapping myself in a weird mixture of excitement and dread :P

The last episode was definitely great, finally getting the payoff for what has widely been a setup season so far.

I loved the "come at me bro" pose from the Night's King.

So what's the thought on Stannis now?

Believe it or not, I still support him lol

I do see why he did what he did, for the good of the realm, even if it was a horrible thing to do. :P

I don't particularly like it but yeah, its pretty in character for Stannis. Also, he's fighting against people who flay their enemies alive, of course he's the guy to root for...then again Stannis burns them alive.

Stannis is no longer the mannis. He burned my pick to sit on the Iron Throne at the end of this whole thing, goddamit. I kinda want him to lose to Ramsay now. And then let Brienne come in and chop Ramsay's head off for the win.

Ramsay? Its all on daddy Roose, the boss of Bolton :big:

The difference between all of them, is that Stannis genuinely has the interests of all of Westeros at heart, he's not just thinking about himself, he knows the White Walkers are coming, so he needs to do literally everything possible to stop that... including, it seems, burning his own daughter :P

With Fat Walda being pregnant with a potential rival to succession, something tells me Ramsay is going to take her AND daddy out on his own.

I'm not seeing Ranmsey win that one. About all the conversations daddy and son have involve Roose showing his son they aren't in the same league just yet.

Did they just drop a bridge on the king...oh dear. I thought the book had him survive this.

The book doesn't show you the attack at Winterfell. Jon gets a letter from Ramsay claiming victory afterwards but the reader doesn't know if he's lying or not.

From what I heard there was a preview chapter of the next book focusing on Stannis so that makes me assume he survives.

I'm also kinda missing Vary's in Kings landing. He was supposed to do something really cool there but shows up to hang out with Tyrion instead.

Yeah, it made me really mad that they didn't include that. Hopefully they're saving that for next season.

I have a feeling they will cut that part of his character for good despite forshadowing it a bit.

Apparently one of the creators once admitted he disliked Stannis. That explains some things.

Kit Harington was rumoured to be turning up a lot in Northern Ireland recently, and a few days ago, it appears that someone took a few pictures of him arriving at Belfast Airport. It could supposedly be for a funeral scene, but that is an awful lot of effort for one small scene.

I would like to see the whole John Targaryen idea played out, and I would also like to see Stannis Baratheon survive. After all, it would be so humiliating for Stannis to discover that he was a usurper, just like all of the others...
