The rain was falling down hard on the empty street. The only light that shone was from the street lamp that flickered to the rhythm of the falling rain. The night was cold, the wind blew hard and a dark figure came out of the pathway that led to the park. Dressed in all black and a hood to cover his face and to keep the rain away from his head, he walked towards the light, the only light source in the area, no lights shone from the houses or the street lamp except for this. The rain started to fall harder; the dark figure was getting weaker as he got closer. Finally he got to the curb, under the light, he took off his hood. He had a young face, but pale and tired, his black hair wet from the rain that fell, he was breathing deeply, like he was running out of air. He looked up above him opened his mouth and trying to fill it wit the rain that dropped down, he sighed in relief. He looked forward again, looked around wondering where he was. He looked at the pathway where he came from, looking around, making sure that someone did not follow him. He reached down into his pocket and took out a black book, it looked old and plain, no title, and no author. He flipped through the book, the ink faded as it got wet.
“You’ve caused to much trouble for me.†He tore out the pages of the book, throwing them in the wind, tears began to fall down his face, and he was down to the last page. As he ripped it out, the wind blew furiously, the pages of the book flew in the air, and he watched it fly across the air. But something was wrong, the wind didn’t blow the pages away, but it began to come together and it formed a human figure. He was afraid, quickly stood up and backed away from the moving man made of paper as it walked swiftly towards him. Stretching out his arm and pointing its finger at the frightened boy, a strand of rope like material came out of it and wrapped itself around the boy’s leg. He loses balance and fell down, he tried to crawl away but the paper figure was already in front of him.
“You shouldn’t have done that to the book.†The figure told the scared boy, his voice was cold and calm.
“Wh-who are you?â€
“You tell me, you created me.â€
“What do you mean?â€
“My soul feeds off the souls of the past owners that I had, when you found me, each time you wrote inside of me, you created a new me, a part of you now lives inside of me. Except I have a mind of my own, enough chit chat… you must now repay for your recklessness.†And before the boy could say anything, the paper figure hand gagged him. He tried to scream hoping that someone could hear him, but the hand around him held on tight, tight enough to stop him from breathing. But he kept screaming, and began to cry trying to take its hands off his mouth, but it was too strong.
“No use struggling, you’re coming with me now, as a prisoner for your wrongdoings.†And the figure starting wrapping itself on the boy, and the bond was tight, he was mummified in sticky, tape like paper, he was covered head to toe, but unlike the paper figure that was there, his arms were on his sides and he could not open his mouth.
“You are a prisoner forever, you will never EVER escape from your bonds, but there is one way...but you will have to find that out for yourself HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!†the voice rang in his ears, laughing then fading away. The boy wrapped in paper shrank, eventually his moans and struggle was gone, a sound of thunder roared through the night, and then everything fell silent. The rain stopped. Under the light of the street lamp was the black book. The street was quiet; it was dry and the trees dancing to the sound of the wind.
A bedroom light turned, it was 2:00 in the morning, Jin awoke from the sound of the thunder and he couldn’t fall asleep again and decided to read a book. Jin loved reading, he read a lot, especially manga’s, as he was picking up a book from his shelf, he looked outside to see what it was like outside. His bedroom window gave a good view of the street. He looked out and thought it suspicious that only one of the street lamps was on. But what caught his attention was the book that lay there. Curiosity struck him and he wanted to see what it was. He felt weird. It felt like he NEEDED to go and get it, so he quickly ran out of his room and went downstairs quietly. As he went out, he didn’t bother closing the door, but quickly ran to pick up the book. As he walked back to his house, he flipped through the book, and found it weird that the pages were empty, had no writing in it. When he got back he put the book on his desk. He flipped through the book again and at the last page him finally some printing on it. The owner’s name was written on the bottom, TOSHIRO.
He flipped back to the beginning of the book, and stopped on the second page. Your true self is bound in the pages of this book. Your secrets revealed. He kind of thought that was weird; as he was going back to his bed, he dropped the book. As he went to pick it up, he was stunned that book had words and pictures on one page, but was not there on the others, he got suspicious and tried dropping it again… but nothing happened. It was 2: 30 now, and he heard someone coming out of the room. He quickly hid the book under his bed and jumping back on his bed and went to sleep.
The next day was a Saturday, and Jin decided to go over to his friend’s house and play some video games. Before he left he took the book under his bed, he turned to the page where he saw some printing on it, but it disappeared. He decided to bring it with him and show it to some of his friends. As he went to check the weather on the news, BREAKING NEWS caught his attention: a boy 17, his age was missing. His name was Toshiro…
