Surely we should ALL be careful what we say and to whom.
I leave it to you to decide whether I am a Professor of Vernacular Literature or not. I invite you to decide whether there IS a real Father Christmas or not. The answers are, "Yes I am" and, "Of course there is". Surely any other such claims made on ANY site should be taken with more than a pinch of salt.

Mirae's superb parodies are reactions to what is obviously badly written rubbish but we need to be aware that even more plausible posts might just not be the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

Fake people on the internet lie about their age, stories constantly is changed, but honesty, I say as long as you never meet that person in real life which is dangerous to say the least, its not that big of a concern.
You will have to subdue me to restrain me. I been a bad boy so make sure you torture me too with anything but pain.

As I see it, you are worried about two issues:
1) "Fakeness" and categorisation of stories
2) Fake Members

To 1)...I dont see this as danger. After all, no one can really proove or falsify the truthness of a story (albeit some are very obvious). I bet if I would post some of the more unusual bondage events I had in real life, most people wouldn't beleive it, either ;) As I see it, the true stories are stories which could have happened. Did they really happen? Heck, who cares as long as it's a good story! Clearly, superhero bondage stories don't belong there ;)

To 2) Well, fakes have been a problem for ages on all kinds of sites. A lot of sites develop a kind of "known in reality" mechanism to partly counter this...but basically, the clever fakes will find a way around it. (The obvios fakes, honestly, to me are more amusing than annoying). I think the main problem with fakes is that a lot of people here wish for something (i.e. a girl to tie up) so dire that they switch of their rational thinking and suspicions once they see a "target". Heck....this is even a problem even for "not-fakes" because, especially in online dating, people tend to project their wishes and ideal perceptions of a partner into someone.
For me, personally, I take everything I read online with a pint of salt. Here, everyone can claim everything. What matters to me is reality (and I have met some members here in reality). And not a virtual "let's pretend".

Hmm...from my history (and I have been in BDSM communities a long time) I cant say that this has increased. As I call it, "attention bitching", is something (sadly) very human. Like, often enough, sucide threats even in real life are really a call for attention. And in the net, some people seem to get their kick of it and repeat it on and on.

Best advice I can give...don't give these people attention, don't give them any room (and I know, me writing this here is somewhat ironic becasue I just gave them attention). They want to be in the spotlight- don't let them be there.

Postby Fesselfan » Fri Aug 30, 2013 1:40 am

Well.. I can only say what my personal solution for that dilemma is.
For me, there is more than just black and white to it. If I chat with someone who doesnt interest me enough to meet in reality- I don't care if every fact he (or she) claims is true or not. And I don't see people I only know online as friends, no matter what.
The question I ask myself usually is..."what do I want/get from this contact" and that determines my actions and reactions to it.
Example: If I think a female nick is a fake I usually simply ignore "her". However, once in a while I might decide it might be fun to toy around with the fake, and then I react to it.
If I want to meet someone in reality, usually I do so quickly. And once you know someone in reality, it's a different kind of game anyway.

Mirae's parody sort of confirmed what I felt I already knew. Similar tropes and veins that just sort of stood out.
It's probably not possible to confirm the "true" stories on this site. We just sort of put our faith in the writer that they're actually coming to us straight and honest, with maybe a little embellishment, because cut and dry anecdotes are boring. I get that, we wanna spin the yarn, tell the tale. Gotta color it up and add a little spice.
But there IS a difference between taking creative liberties, and outright making things up.
To me, though...If you can write a "true" story from the perspective and actually make it compelling and believable...that's the sign of a good writer.

Others...not so much.
Take any story where suddenly the whole family, or more than one family, is suddenly hip to the whole tying up thing. I find that incredibly hard to swallow.

Welcome to "The Internet". People lie, alot. Consider that the profiles on here offer absolutely minimal details about people, it's not like Facebook, the majority of people here don't even have a display picture.

We find ourselves talking to these people who we perceive to be these open-minded, kinky individuals because we really want to believe that they are exactly that, and we get carried away.

The truth is I could easily claim to be a girl on here, up for meeting up with anyone for them to tie me up, or whatever, and none of you would ever know any different. That's just how it is, whether on here, or any other similar site.

Actually you might be refering to Boundgal08. On this site at least she is the second most famous person to come out of Pontypridd, Wales after Tom Jones. She was the most prolific female writer who suddenly stopped. Her last post was June 2011. She was attending University so I wish her the best and hope she's able to chime in again. BG, we'd love to hear from you! :gag: T.T.

Being another member that was frauded by a man pretending to be a woman, I have my own reservations. Plain and simple, it's a real mindfuck when it happens, mainly because you often share (intimate) details, because of the nature of this site.

What can you do? I ask for a picture, with the other person wearing something that's requested. Nothing elaborate, just different, like a bracelet. Skype also works.

Bottom line is that we need to realize that any and all forms of users visit this site, and there's a reason for some anonymity. As for the writing, and what's real or not, well, this is a "story" site in general. I think Mirae's satirizing is the best approach, actually. The more people see how stupid some things sound, the less they'll write them.

I just feel sorry for that one rich boy with a greedy step mom and aunt that really let him tie them both up. Boy is he ever going to get an earful if he writes about it!
Walk the mile first... then have the fun!

Discussions like this are one large reason why I've been sticking entirely to fictional stories lately.
I admit to exaggerating my own True Tugs stories more than a little; especially with elements concerning my adolescent intimacies. For example, although my cousins and some other friends my age *did* ambush me and tie me up a lot (pretty much with my willing connivance), no sexual contact was involved except in my own fantasies at the time (and since). Much of what I've been telling were my Walter Mitty style fantasies I had at the time to spice up the stories. I DID get tied up a lot, but it was usually consensual and that was about as far as things went.
At the time I joined this site i thought it was more important to tell a well-written and interesting story than to adhere strictly to the truth. Most other peoples' true tugs stories bore me, to be honest. The true ones are imo either hum-drum or badly written; if not both. The more interesting stories in the True tugs section are probably the fake ones anyway in most cases, but that usually doesn't bother me unless the suspension of disbelief is just too hard (such as someone claiming to be suspended by their wrists for hours at a time without going into shock). Writing fiction seems to be lots more fun to do anyway; you can freely use your imagination, and everyone knows its only fiction to begin with.
Sorry if anyone is disappointed that I'm one of the fakers (well, exaggerators anyway). I never meant to hurt anyone, and have always been upfront about myself as i am NOW - such as the fact that I have virtually no TUGs experiences anymore.

As I see it, there are well written stories and badly written stories. And this goes for both fictional and true ones.
To be honest, I saw this coming a bit with the "True/fictional" distinction when it was made...after all, there is no real way to determine if a story is true or not (at least with many stories that is).
IMHO, we should rather think of it as "fantasy" stories and "realistic setting" stories.

I've long suspected that some of my favorite stories from this site (I won't name names) involving elaborate bondage wars between unsupervised kids were either wildly exaggerated or complete fictions. I still like them, though.

Yeah, well, I'm not surprised. Actually, to tell the truth (this time), I'm not really sure why I exaggerated my stories so much and called them true. I doubt it was for the attention; I mean, hell, none of you knows who I really am (Jason Toddman is not my real name), so what do I have to gain by trying to impress you with lies about my adolescence? Human psychology is a tricky thing, i guess.
Most of the basic elements of my stories (such as getting tied up by my brother, my cousins, and various friends) ARE true. All are (rather loosely at times) based on actual TUGs. The intimacy, elements of semi-nonconsensuality and most of the more bizarre elements of my stories though are, of course, fiction. For instance, I did get forced into a dress more than once but I never went to a costume party in the blasted thing. Again, I never truly figured i was really fooling anyone by claiming my stories were 100% unvarnished truth, and i don't even understand myself why I said they were (though I do wish they were!!! :quirk: ). My only actual conscious desire in telling these occasional whoppers was to entertain; not to convince anyone that i was anything special. Or maybe I thought i was obtaining some kind of illicit notoriety. I honestly don't really know myself.
I hope though I haven't really shattered anyone's world by coming clean with all this though.
Like I said, I just wanted to be an entertaining story writer, not be Joe Cool.
And now I think I'll just go find those true Tugs that were archived and move them to the fictional section.

Well, as long as no one thinks I'm some kind of vain glory-hog.
Heck, my own less-than-flattering (and entirely truthful) portrayal of myself as a pudgy, glasses-wearing nerd even as a teenager (rather the washboard-abbed, steel-bunned superbeing many authors have claimed to be) ought to adequately prove that I'm not (too) conceited or out to portray myself as better than anyone else :quirk:
