DISAPPEARING FOR A FEW DAYS

CHAPTER 1
The tension in the room was killer. Becca could feel the eyes of her judges pierce straight through her, each one glancing at their colleagues with a look that said “heard this one before.” Each tap of the pen, each note they took was a black mark on Becca’s record, she could tell.
“I think the best parallel that can be made is to Nabokov’s Lolita, which…” Becca’s words fell out of her mouth. She’d lost the ability to focus on them, instead watching every move of her judge’s. She knew that they could see her sweating. Would they think that because she’s nervous, that she is not prepared? They were looking at her face. Maybe her glasses were crooked. Or maybe she had something in her teeth. Maybe the sweat on her face had smeared her make-up, and now she just looked like a sad clown.
As Becca finished speaking, the room fell eerily silent. Becca couldn’t even hear the birds chirping outside anymore. The judges began to write furiously. Becca’s heart beat fast in her chest. One of the few lights in the dim, beige room began to flicker in the corner.
“Thank you, Miss Walters,” droned the judge in the center, not looking up from his notes. “We’ll be in touch with you in about a week’s time.”
Becca feigned a smile and nodded. After a moment’s hesitation, she made her way to the door, staring down at the ground in front of her the whole time. She opened the door slowly and closed it just a bit too quickly. After a deep sigh she wiped the sweat from her eyes and made her way outside.
Jessie leapt to her feet when Becca stepped outside and ran toward her, her long, straight brown hair flowing behind her in a way that no one’s hair outside of a cartoon should. Her flip-flops clacked against the pavement, and Becca was worried that Jessie would trip all over herself. Not that there was any need to worry; Jessie was nothing if not graceful.
And, of course, she was stunningly beautiful, as well. As she stopped running her hair fell gracefully over her bare shoulders. Her pink tank top showed off her perfect curves and her beautiful long legs peeked out from under her short black skirt. She looked quite a bit more comfortable in the warm summer air than Becca was in the pants suit she had to wear to her orals. She also looked absolutely gorgeous. Not that Becca had ever told her about her attraction to women; she’d not told anyone about that.
“How’d it go?” Jessie asked, embracing Becca in a hug that, had the weather been a bit cooler, she’d have accepted with open arms. Being a year behind Becca, Jessie did not yet have to worry about the horror that is orals.
“It wasn’t too bad, I suppose. They won’t tell me anything for about a week, though.”
“What? That’s crazy. Anyway, I know what will cheer you up.”
“A pay check? A vacation? A boyfriend?” Becca was lying about the last one.
“A beer. Let’s head down to the pub for a bit.”
Becca smiled. “Sure. Let me just go change, and I’ll meet you at your car in a bit.”
Becca made her way back to her dorm, ignoring the bustling of her peers. Some of them would be heading to their orals, too, of course, but for many others it was just a normal Saturday. Ugh, Saturday. The bars would be packed. Becca didn’t care too much for the idea of being around too many people. Besides, Jessie would probably try to get some guys to hit on them.
Back at her dorm, Becca changed out of her pants suit into a loose-fitting blue t-shirt that hung slightly off her right shoulder and a pair of denim shorts. It was too hot to dress any more conservatively, but Becca didn’t really want to attract any attention. She didn’t want any guys hitting on her today. She only wanted Jessie, but she knew that would never happen.
Becca straightened her glasses and tried to brush her long dirty blonde hair, to no avail. No matter how hard she tried, she could never quite get it quite straight. She fixed up her make-up (mostly be removing it) and stepped back into her flats, grabbed her purse and headed back out the door. Jessie was waiting by her car, a stylish pair of sunglasses now adorning her face. Becca ran around to the other side and hopped into the passenger seat. Jessie started the car and they went on their way to the downtown area.
“You’re looking down, Becca, everything alright?”
“Hmm?” Becca barely noticed Jessie talking. “Yeah, fine, sure.”
“Worried?”
“Yeah, I guess. I kind of just wish I could disappear for a while, you know. Not have to worry about anything for a few days.”
“Yeah, I know the feeling. Ah, well, maybe a beer and a boy will help cheer you up.” Jessie flashed Becca a suggestive smile.
Becca forced out a bit of a chuckle and rested her head against the back of the seat. As she did so, she couldn’t help but notice a silver roll of duct tape on Jessie’s side of the dashboard.
“Jessie? What’s the duct tape for?”
“Oh, you know, in case I need it for anything.” Becca couldn’t help but feel like Jessie had answered just a bit too quickly.
The bar was about what Becca had anticipated. Jessie went off to hit on a few guys while Becca stayed and had a drink. A few guys came up to talk to her, and she made small talk, like any decent person should. Eventually, Jessie came up to her at the bar.
“These guys are all pretty lame. Let’s head back up to campus.”
On the way back to campus, Becca and Jessie chatted about school, about plans for the summer, and about a few other subjects before, as always happened with Jessie, the topic eventually turned to men.
“I hear Ben Smith’s got his eye on you. He’s kinda the nerdy type, right?” Jessie asked. For the three years Jessie’s been at school with Becca now, she’d consistently tried to set Becca up with every guy she knew.
“Yeah, I guess so. I don’t know, Jess. I guess I’m just looking for someone who, you know, gets me.”
“I feel that, sister.” As she said this, Jessie turned onto a dirt road in a forest that Becca had never been on before.
“Jessie? This isn’t the way back to campus.”
“It’s a short cut.”
“It can’t be a short cut. Campus is the other way.”
Jessie took one hand off the steering wheel and used it to pull Becca over to her by her shirt collar. She then wrapped her arm around Becca’s head and clamped her hand over Becca’s mouth.
“You be quiet now, sweety. You let Jessie do the driving.”
“Mmph!” Becca tried to pull Jessie’s hand away, but Jessie’s grip was just a bit too tight.
Jessie stopped abruptly and turned off the car.
“You said you wanted to disappear for a few days. So let me help you with that.”
“Mmph mmnmm mm I mn!” Becca tried to reason with Jessie, but couldn’t say a word through Jessie’s hand.
Jessie used her free hand to pull her lacey black thong out from under her skirt. “Let’s keep that mouth nice and quiet then, shall we?” Jessie moved her hand away from Becca’s mouth and wrapped her arm around Becca’s arms, pinning them to her chest. She held her thong over Becca’s face, but Becca refused to open her tightly shut lips.
“Okay, fine, we’ll play it your way, love.” Jessie pierced Becca’s nostrils shut with her fingers. Becca opened her mouth, gasping for air, and Jessie shoved her thong in Becca’s mouth. Jessie then grabbed for the duct tape. As she did so, Becca managed to wriggle out of Jessie’s grasp and opened the door, and started running.
Becca didn’t look back. She didn’t take the time to take the thong out of her mouth. She felt her right shoe fall off; her left not long after. She couldn’t keep running. She stopped to catch her breath, but this was a mistake. Jessie had always been a faster runner than Becca. Jessie ran up behind Becca and tackled to the ground, turned her over onto her back and used her knees to pin down Becca’s arms.
“You be a good girl now and cooperate.”
“Mmph!” Becca called out through the thong clogging her mouth. Her eyes started to tear up.
“Shh. Stay quiet now, baby.” Jessie peeled off a strip of duct tape and placed it over Becca’s mouth. She rolled Becca onto her stomach and pulled her arms together behind her back, wrapping the duct tape around her wrists several times. She then turned around and wrapped the tape around her ankles. Finally, she stood up off of Becca’s back and watched her captive wriggle around and shriek into her gag.
“Come on now, babe. Let’s get you back to the car.”
As Becca tried to cry out, Jessie picked her up into a fireman’s carry (Jessie was quite a bit stronger than she looked) and carried Becca back to the car. She grabbed the keys and popped open the trunk, laying Becca inside.
“Mm! En, mm!” Becca pleaded with Jessie, shaking her head vigorously.
“Hush now, baby. You let Jessie take care of you. Jessie kissed Becca on the forehead and closed the trunk.
