At the Grandparents'

A while back I wrote 3 stories here and said they were the only ones I could remember at the time (they're in the archives now). I was going back through them and can't believe I forgot to write about this story.

I was at my grandparents' house. I guess I was about 17 or 18 at the time. My grandparents live off in a rural area and have a very large yard. My two younger cousins, who live with my aunt and uncle in the same town, go over there a lot and so there used to be several toys in their yard (now that they're older these have mostly disappeared). On this particular occasion there was a jump rope and a toy machine gun in the backyard. That is important, remember it. My cousins are a boy and a girl, 6 and 10 years younger than me respectively. As they are mostly indirectly involved with this story I won't bother trying to come up with fake names for them.

More directly, this story involves my grandparents' one-time neighbor, a girl who was about the same age as my boy cousin. Actually I think she's a year older, which meant she was roughly 12 for this story. Anyway, I'll call her Samantha. She used to show up quite a bit when my cousins were over. She had a sister who was a year or two younger who didn't show up that often but did at one point in this story. I'll call her Danielle. Actually, I can't for the life of me remember what her name actually was.

Anyway, Samantha came up once while my cousins and I were outside. They all being at least 5 years younger than me, I always felt a little out of place playing with them, especially once I got older, but it was either that or hang out with the adults, and I felt even more out of place with them. So anyway, we're playing around, and somehow I get the idea to use the machine gun and take Samantha hostage. I picked it up and aimed it at her. "Don't move" I said.

At first she put her hands up and played along, saying "Don't shoot me." However, she then tried to run past me. I grabbed her and pinned her arms together. She was pretty feisty about fighting me. It was at this point that I noticed the jump rope laying there. I got a good idea and bent down to grab it and wrapped it around her arms.

At this point she started shouting "Help me, he's tying me up!" to my male cousin, who as it turned out had run into the house for some reason I'm unaware of. She shouted in a playful manner, not in a manner that indicated she thought I was fixing to kill her, so I continued wrapping it around her body. At one point she said "Don't tie my hair up." She had really long hair about down to her waist. I loosened the jump rope enough for her to get her hair out, as I'm sure the rope was pulling on it. Then I wrapped it back around her and tied it off in a knot. I remember at this point that she really made a goood damsel in distress. She was wearing a light blue dress and putting up a decent struggle to get free. Her arms were tied to her sides but her hands had gotten pinned behind her a little bit, so she couldn't reach the knot I had tied in front of her. And she was screaming for my cousin to come rescue her. I covered her mouth with my hand. It was at this point that I discovered that hands over people's mouths do not work quite as well at silencing people in real life as they do in the movies. She was a shrieker and although I kept her quieter than she had been, she was still able to make a pretty good bit of noise behind my hand. I wanted to gag her with something but I didn't have anything to do that with. So I picked up the toy gun, pointed it at her, and said "Stay quiet if you don't want me to shoot."

Well, Samantha didn't really pay much attention to this command and screamed her head off for my cousin to come rescue her. So I covered her mouth again and then had an idea. There was a free-standing treehouse in my grandparents' backyard. It was basically a treehouse that stands with its own support and not on a tree, it had 4 big supports holding it up. I pushed her over to one of the supports and was going to tie her to it while I went to find something to gag her with. Because I didn't have enough slack to wrap around the support I had to untie the knot to get enough slack to wrap around both her and the support. As it turned out the rope was barely long enough to wrap around both Samantha and the support once. I tied the knot off and said "Wait here a minute." I walked back into the house. However, the adults (grandparents, my parents, aunt, and uncle) were all in the area of the house where I thought I might find some tape or something to cover Samantha's mouth. I didn't really want to explain what I was doing so I turned around and went back outside.

Apparently, the fact that I didn't have enough rope to go around both Samantha and the support of the treehouse more than once had given her some wiggle room, because in the several seconds I'd been in the house she had managed to work herself free of the rope and was running off. I decided not to chase her down as she was heading for the house and just went on.

There is a short second part to this story. A little while later that day Samantha's little sister Danielle came up to visit us. By this point we were back outside again with the jump rope. Apparently Samantha wanted a little payback for earlier. She and her sister both took one end of the jump rope and ran at me from behind, and before I knew it were running in circles around me wrapping it around me, pinning my arms to my sides. For once in her life Samantha had managed to be quiet enough that I didn't know she or her sister were there (if you haven't picked it up yet, her shrieking and screaming could be annoying at times, one thing that factored in to my decision to try to gag her). They wrapped the jump rope around me so that I couldn't move my arms. Danielle held the ends of the rope behind me so I couldn't work it free while Samantha grabbed the toy gun. Rather than take me hostage, she simply aimed at me and pulled the trigger a couple of times. "You're dead" she said. I guess that was her "revenge."

Apparently neither girl knew how to tie a good knot, because while my arms were pinned pretty tight while one of them was holding the ends of the rope, as soon as they let go it loosened up enough that I was able to free my arms in about 10 seconds.

That's the story, more or less. I did make up most of the dialogue as I don't remember the exact words said.
