[POLL] Tie Up Games Story Catalogue

Postby chadmc90 » Wed Jul 06, 2016 7:50 pm

Hey guys!

Continuing off the original topic, viewtopic.php?f=9&t=27590, I decided to rephrase and make a poll to see if people would be interested.

So, here's the jist of the idea. What we will have in the "Announcements" section is a thread that will allow both authors AND story fans a chance to advertise the story that are in progress, or have been completed.

This will give use benefits, such as:

Here is what a sample story ad would look like:

----------------------------------------------------------------------

<Name of Story>
<M/M, M/F, F/M, F/F, or mixed>
<Content Rating, i.e. PG17, Sexual, etc.>

<Summary, or a short description of the story>
<What types of bondage to expect? i.e. Tags and Keywords>

<Link to story on the Board>

----------------------------------------------------------------------

I would suggest that some moderation take place. For example, I think summaries should be short and to the point. It would be annoying to see an author post a overly long 'summary' and overshadow the other ads. It would also be good to keep to a certain format, as seen above. I think well organized ads will help story readers find what they're looking for a lot easier.

As always, forum members are encouraged to give their thoughts. The more attention this gets, the more willing Jason will do it. Respond by voting or leaving feedback.

Voted "YES" for obvious reasons.

As a writer and a reader, I find this is a brilliant idea.

It would be sorta like a story catalogue that you can quickly go through and find what you're looking for, based on the short story descriptions and keywords. No need to look for stories that feature your particular interests, you'd just need to go on the catalogue page and browse through the story descriptions+tags/keywords to find one that interests you, instead of going from thread to thread, hoping to find what you're looking for.

The thread in question would have the potential of reviving some hidden gems currently collecting dust in the archives, gems that wouldn't get much attention otherwise.

This should be a nice addition to the site! Some oil for the nuts and bolts --

**Ask authors to select keywords from a basic checklist column when they first submit their stories.

**I think it would be a bear for the mods to add keywords to the archived stories, so maybe members could key word the archives, but that would require positive attachment of the member name at the time the keywords are selected (necessary to prevent troublemakers from screwing up the works).

**Story descriptions or summaries should be very brief, maybe 200 or 250 words, at most.

I agree with the catalogue too!

There was several times where I went to the archives to try to look for a story that I would be interested. I pass though more than 10 pages looking on the title something that catched my eyes. But I didn't found it. The search tool of the forum is too much simple and when you look to a keyword there, appears all the posts of that word, be it in a story, in a comment or inside more than one time in the same topic. If someone is looking for a story there, he may never found it.

With this catalogue, it would be much more simple to look for stories because the description and the tag words! I think that in a long time period, had a catalogue like that would help a lot to look for old and new stories!

Keep in mind this is simply a thread where people can post a short summary of their stories, including a link. I dont think theres functionality to add tags, or keywords, to threads and posts.

I definity agree summaries should be kept to a reasonable character limit.

I think totally the contrary, this is not just for share a summary, it's a way for the people to make a complete search though the stories that are registred on there, so the tags and keywords are totally important. Let's say por example I am looking for a story with "tickling", if the story dosen't have tags and the summaries be as much short as your guys are proposing, then how I would find out that that story or another one have it? The same problem can happen for example when I am not looking for a certain word. I don't like breathplay, so if a story dosen't have tags or is not described on the description, I would start to read a story that soon will be ruined because I realized that it has a fetish that I don't like. So I totally think that tags and keywords are essentials.

About the summaries, I am not saying that you have to make an entire page of description, but enough lines for the people know what kind of stories they will read and what they could expect from that. Let's supose that a story has this description: "Cael finally found a girl that will teach him the way to the slavery". What this kind of description tells to me? Much better would be something like that: "Cael is a normal boy from a normal city, he plays and get out with his friends as a normal person. However, Cael always had this feeling of inferiority about the womans, he cannot disobey or go against a womans order. He dreams with the possibility to be a slave for a gorgeous girl someday. Suddenly, as his fantasies could be true when his new classmate, a wonderful, strong and what seems to be a sweety girls appears and found out his little secrety. Sooner, Cael found himself being tied up, gagged and forced to submit to his new classmate as her slave. What this girl will make Cael to do? His fantasies will come true or he will realized that he did a terrible mistake? He was about to know the awnser". I think the last summary would be much more interesting and make the people think about the possibilities. But as you can see, none of the summaries told me what other fetishes I can find on the story. But let's suppose that that story content the following tags: "bondage, gagged, blindfolded, humiliation, crossdressing, tickling, foot workship, sensory deprivation, spanking". I really like tickling, blindfolds and sensory deprivation, so I would totally go for read this story, but wait, I don't like crossdressing eiter, so I could read this story being alread warned about it or just skip to another story.

Hope you guys did saw my point : D!

@ Lake Lover
Hey bud! Glad you're onboard as well.
The only issue I see with your suggestion is that it would require a rather EXTENSIVE checklist column to accommodate all the kinks/fetishes/genres we find in the stories here. I think it might be better to leave the "keyword" selection to each individual author without restricting their choices with a pre-made checklist.

@Onodera
I think what chadmc90 means is that the story catalogue would just be a place to advertise stories (with links/description/keywords(tags)...etc)
It's something we could even do ourselves without Mod intervention. All they'd need to do is prepare the thread (which we could draft ourselves) and post it as a Global Announcement.
Asking anything more from the Mod team won't work.
For one, playing around with the search function requires Admin tools and secondly, the forum is understaffed as it is.
We need to keep this as simple as possible. All we need to do is encourage writers here to use the catalogue to advertise their stories.
Eventually, when the catalogue becomes big enough, it'll just be a matter of using the "Seach this topic..." function at the top of the thread to find stories containing the keywords you're interested in.
If you wanna read about sockgags, you type "sockgag" and BINGO! you'll get a list of all stories in the catalogue that have the keywords "sockgag" in the tags/keywords.
No need to ask mods and admins to do anything other than ensure that the catalogue rules are followed.
Ex: STORY ADDS ONLY! NO OTHER POSTS ON THIS THREAD!

As soon as we come to consensus on the matter, we should go forward with the project and start working on a draft.
Once we're satisfied with the final draft, we'd only need to alert Jason.T or xtc and ask them to post it as a Global Announcement.
The rest will fall in line.

Good idea. Especially if the brief information would also mention whether the characters in the story are adults or minors.

Using the Dewey Decimal System, many libraries categorize books by title, author, and subject. I can see categorizing by subject (m/m, m/f, f/m, f/f, mixed/multiple captors, and mixed/multiple captives.

Many authors are known for the types of stories they write, so categorizing them by author, might not be a bad idea, either.

However, I don't think categorizing stories by title, would be effective or efficient.

@ Drawscore
I'm not exactly sure what you're talking about. We don't plan on categorizing anything as far as I know.
The initial idea is to create a thread where everyone can advertise stories (stories they've written or stories they've read) by filling out a form which would include title/author/content rating/involved sexes/story summary/tags.
In the future, such a thread would become a valuable tool to anyone looking for a story that focused on something specific.
They'd just need to browse the adds to find something that fit their taste.

Has a consensus been reached? Onodera, Chad, are we in agreement?

We don't need to require such complicated system. The thread will be used to a easy search that everyone could do using "Ctrl+F" to findo out keywords of the stories that they are looking for. The stories, as the people will make the registration and someone will place all them on the first post to a better search, put them in alphabetical would be unfeasible, since this only would make the guy to paste the registrations have more work. The order that the stories are listed are not important since there is a way to make a seach. The name of the stories I think is important because it will be a way to reference it.

For me is everything okay :D! Just hoping that my original idea works and we can see lots of good stories soon! I still think that the registration does need some things like the name of the story, tags and a good summary. And that they should be placed on the first post of the topic for a better search of the tags and key words with the "Ctrl+F".

Since you are gonna make the draft, it would be a good idea to make the registration of your own story there to act as a perfect example how it would work :D! I am sure this would clear a lot of doubts how this idea can be useful!

Hello TiedDancer,
That's exactly what this is.
As you know, the search engine really doesn't help much when you're looking for specific types of stories.

The ONE ADD PER STORY rule would apply here. There'd be no point for an author to spam the thread with adds of the same story, since a single add is all that's required for the SEARCH THIS TOPIC tool to pick it up.

I did think of something else...

Should we have also included the status of the story? Like is it still a work in progress, cancelled, or completed? That might be important for a reader too, idk. it wouldnt be too big of a hassle to change, as theyres literally only 4 stories there between 3 authors.

I thought about that as well, but came to the conclusion that too many readers would forgo reading a story if they knew if was still in progress or cancelled. If the reader doesn't know a story's been cancelled, he/she might decide to post a comment urging the author to continue when he/she finds out there's no more.
Just my thoughts though.

Hmm...good point.

I was thinking the opposite, as i would hope readers gave it a read, love it, comment feedback, and hopefully encourage the author to write more. I do see how the opposite could be true, as I myself have gotten fustrated over reading a great story, only to get to the end and it be canceled.

Oh well.

Both scenarios are highly plausible. But the audience is unpredictable. I'd wager it's risky business either way.
