I see this question asked a lot on this forum, usually once every few months: "What are some techniques I can use to tie myself up?" or any variation of the sorts. And often the answer is the same, either one of the above or the thread get left ignored by everyone. And that is fine, except most of the techniques people present are uncomfortable, difficult to execute, or require materials not everyone has. So this post is going to cover some of the techniques I use when I'm alone that are more comfortable and diverse than the usual answers. I also plan to cover step by step how to execute these techniques safely and how to escape.
First a bit of background. I am not a professional in any way, so please be careful if you try any of these techniques. Every situation is different and what works for me might not work for you. I "discovered" selfbondage when I was in my questioning phase when I was around 13 years old. I have found that I am not able to masturbate like a normal pubescent teenage male because porn just does not do it for me. But selfbondage provided me that release that I needed without the awkwardness of needing another person to get involved. However, for some people, selfbondage is not about getting off, and more about just relaxing without any cares(which is more what it is for me now). Whatever your motive, selfbondage, when done safely, can be a lot of fun when you're home alone with nothing to do.
I'm going to say it again and I'm going to keep saying it, selfbondage can be dangerous if you don't pay attention to what you are doing. Please, execute the most extreme caution if you decide to try these. I don't want to be responsible for you getting injured or your death in any way. Some of my personal rules for myself when I tie myself up:
- Always have a second release mechanism. I can't tell you how many times I've forgotten to set up the initial release mechanism, that if I hadn't set up the secondary one, I would definitely have been caugh.
- Make sure someone you trust will be able to untie you if you get stuck. For me, this meant my parents or sister coming home or my dorm roommate comeing back while I was still tied up. The worst thing that could happen is you get in trouble. It's better than dying of starvation or losing a limb(although still possible) because you couldn't get out.
- Nothing around the neck. Even if it's something that can't tighten, it could still get caught. (I have one pseudo exception to this, but that's because without it, the entire technique wouldn't work).
- I personally stopped doing gags because my nose gets clogged easily and I wouldn't want that to happen while in bondage. If you do intend to use a gag, be sure that you will be able to breathe well through your nose or through the gag.
In addition to safety, for me, I like to be comfortable when I tie myself up. This means no pain, especially around the wrist. There are a lot of things that cause pain around the wrist. For this reason, I don't use zip ties on any body part because they are too narrow and uncomfortable, even when they aren't tight. If I'm going to use rope, I use multiple wrappings because one strand of rope is too narrow. Multiple wrappings distributes the weight evenly across a wider surface. I've found that the more area a bond covers, the more comfortable it is. Additionally, handcuffs don't go around my wrists because they chaff and have the same problem of being too narrow. Lastly tape on hair can be a b*tch. For the most part, if I'm going to use tape on a specific area, I wear clothing on that area. If I don't have clothing that covers that area, sometimes I'll cover it with saran wrap before using tape. Otherwise, depending on how discrete it is, I'll shave that area.
So, now that that's out of the way, here are some of the selfbondage techniques that I have found effective over the past few years.

Duct Tape to Desk Chair
One of the first things I discovered how to do comes from an episode of CSI: NY

Duct Tape to Desk Chair
One of the first things I discovered how to do comes from an episode of CSI: NY
+==============================+
Materials:
- Something to tie your legs
- Duct Tape
- Desk chair that spins
- some sort of post sticking up that is relatively stable(I use my bedposts)
- Make sure you have some sort of sharp object(knife, scissors) within easy reach. I would put a knife on my bed, scissors on the floor, and tape another knife to the back of my arm. This way, if I couldn't reach the knife on my bed, I could use the one on my arm. If I fell on the floor, I could get that one too.
Process:
- First tie up your legs in some way. I usually tie my ankles together and above my knees together using a belt.
- Place the duct tape on the polst. You need it to stay at the same height, but it needs to be able to spin around the post. This may mean taping an object below where the duct tape would rest.
- Sit the chair. Optional, find a way to tie your lap and waist to the seat of the chair.(more duct tape or belts or rope).
- Finally, put your arms to your side. If you have a lever on your chair that adjusts height, make sure it starts at the top. Start the tape by sticking it to your waste and spin. The tape should unwind from the roll and wrap around you. Press the lever to lower yourself and bring the tape higher on you until it hits your chest.
- If you do not have a height adjustment lever within easy reach, start the tape at your chest, right above where your elbows are. If you're lucky, it will naturally drop lower on your body.
- Finally, if you can, try and rip the tape from the roll so you don't waste anymore.
- Find that sharp object from before and use it to cut the tape. The easiest way I found to do this is to use one arm to cut from the bottom up along the crease between the other arm and your torso.

Comfortable hog tie

Comfortable hog tie
My twist on a classic.
+==============================+
Materials:
- Belts, scarves, ties, anything you can tie around your wrists/ankles
- Handcuffs(and keys obviously)
- Rope(depending on flexibility)
Setup:
- Make sure the key to the handcuffs is within reach. I usually use string to tie mine to the chain between the cuffs. If you plan on using the rope, keep scissors or a knife nearby.
Process:
- Tie one belt around each wrist and ankle. You want these to be comfortable but not going to release. The way I do this is first I tighten the belt all the way around my wrist and then tie a clove hitch around my arm where one of each wrapping goes on either side of the initial belt wrapping.
- Use the handcuffs by putting one ratchet through the belts on your wrists and the other one through the belts on your ankles.
- If you think it might be too difficult to escape from this(this is probably the hardest one to escape from), tie a short piece of rope between the belts on your wrist and attach the handcuffs to this instead. It adds to your mobility a little bit and makes it easier to reach the key.
Escape:
- It takes a lot of maneuvering, but find that key and unlock the handcuffs. Practice with your hands in front first and then move to behind the back.
- If you used the rope, use scissors to cut the rope if you get stuck.

Hammock net
For this one, I got lucky because I have two posts in my basement that are the perfect distance apart to hang up a hammock. You may not be so lucky and have to do this outside with trees. Or don't do this.

Hammock net
For this one, I got lucky because I have two posts in my basement that are the perfect distance apart to hang up a hammock. You may not be so lucky and have to do this outside with trees. Or don't do this.
+==============================+
Materials:
- A net hammock like this one. It should not have a support bar.
- Rope/zip ties
- A blanket(optional)
Setup:
- Hang up the hammock somwhere stable. You want to be able to lay down in it and swing without it falling over.
- Tie scissors or something that you could use to cut the zipties within reach of the hammock.
- If the hammock is uncomfortable, lay a blanket over it.
Process:
- Get in the hammock.(bring scissors)
- use zipties to connect the loops on the left edge of the hammock to the ones on the right. Essentially, you're
- folding the hammock so that it wraps all the way around you and using the zip ties to tie it shut.
- Start from by your feet and work your way past your head.
- The other alternative is to use the rope to tie the loops to each other instead of zip ties.
- Struggle. Maybe try and flip the hammock. It's fun.
Escape:
- If you tied the hammock together with rope, you should be able to untie it pretty easily.
- If you used zip ties, use the scissors to cut them. If your scissors have fallen out somehow(it happens) use the backup scissors that should be hanging within reach.

Duct Tape Harness
For this one you need some sort of horizontal beam or bar strong enough to hold your weight.
+==============================+
Duct Tape Harness
For this one you need some sort of horizontal beam or bar strong enough to hold your weight.
+==============================+
Materials:
- Duct tape(at least one brand new roll, sometimes I have 2 handy just in case. I recommend a brand that is on the strong side)
- Rope (I also use ratchet straps sometimes)
Setup:
- Tie a knife from the beam mentioned earlier. If you want to use an ice timer to keep the knife out of reach for a set amount of time feel free to do so.
Process:
- For this you must wear something under the duct tape, you do not want it pulling on your skin at all. (I sometimes use saran wrap so that my clothes don't get covered in glue from the tape)
- Start with at least 6 wraps of tape around each thigh. I would start with at least 4 of them in the same spot before working your way up.
- The do strips that go from the front of each thigh, up over the shoulders and end on the back of the thigh. At least 6 on each side
- At least 4 wraps around the waist
- At least 3 wraps around the chest
- Repeat until you run out of tape or feel secure enough that the tape will hold your entire weight
- Stuff the ends of the rope through the straps going over your shoulders and tie the rope as tightly as you can over the horizontal beam
- Kick the bucket out from underneath you
- Hang, unable to reach the ground or move other than flail your limbs about without any progress
Escape:
- use the knife to cut the shoulder straps. Make sure you have a soft landing or won't be falling far.
Safety notes:
- Test your weight on the duct tape before you kick out whatever you are standing on. YOu want to make sure it holds
- Never do this for heights greater than a foot/30cm

Saran Wrap Mummy
This one gets hot. I only do this in the winter or in the summer when the AC is cranked to the max. This one is fun(and easier) to do naked or barely clothed.

Materials:
- A roll of saran wrap/cling film
- A pole of sorts that is at least as tall as your shoulders
- Maybe rope
- Maybe tape
- Maybe a knife
- Maybe a belt
Setup:
- For me, I don't have any posts tall enough for this one, so I have to lash a 5 foot hiking stick(think straight wooden rod) to my bed posts.
- You want to check that the saran wrap roll fits around the pole. If it doesn't you may need to string a piece of rope or string through the roll and tie it to the poll on both ends.
- You also want to check that the roll doesn't fall freely, but that it will slowly move down the poll. If you find the roll just falls to the bottom right away, you need to attach a belt to the poll or tie a piece of rope below the roll so that it adds friction.
Process:
- I usually tape a knife to my stomach area first just in case. Saran wrap is flimsy enough that a finger can poke through it, but if it gets to be too thick, you might get stuck
- Because I have to lash a poll to my bedposts first, the roll can't reach the bottom so I wrap my legs first while I still can, starting from my heels and working my way up to my chest
- Then I put the roll at the top of the rod and start wrapping my chest
- If you do it right, gravity will pull the roll down slowly enough that it will wrap the rest of your torso with your arms pinned to your sides
Escape:
- You should be able to poke your finger through the saran wrap
- If not, maneuver your hands to the knife and slice an opening for you
Safety:
- Since you are mummified, your balance will not be perfect. Make sure you have a soft landing for if you fall.
- Water. You will sweat. Drink water afterwards to stave off dehydration.

Sweater straight jacket
This one usually takes me the least amount of time to actually execute which meant I could do it when my roommate went to class.
+==============================+
Sweater straight jacket
This one usually takes me the least amount of time to actually execute which meant I could do it when my roommate went to class.
+==============================+
Materials:
- An old sweater(there is a risk of destroying the sweater, so don't pick your favorite)
- belts or rope(maybe)
Setup:
- So for this, there is a lot of variety in what you could do.
- First, you could just tie the sleeves of the sweater together. However, this will leave the least amount of room in the sleeves for your arms and be the most difficult to get into.
- Next you could use rope tied using a sheet bend to the sleeves to seal off the sleaves and give yourself more room between the sleeves making it easier to get into and out of.
- Or you could do what I do and use cloth belts and tie the sleeves through the D rings in two different belts and tie the belts together. This gives you the most comfort as you won't have a rope digging into your back.
- Additionally, you have the option of tieing rope or belts around your thighs. This gives you an attachment point that is not through your crotch for less pain in that region.
Process:
- Put on the sweater like normal, (except obviously you won't be able to pull your arms through all the way)
- Cross your arms and bring one of your arms around your head
- Work the rope behind your back so it gets into the small of your back
- At this point, if you want to make the session more restrictive, you should be able to work your arms out of the sleeves and out the bottom of the sweater
- I usually tie the end of the belts holding the sleeves together behind my back to the belts around my thighs to keep me from working the sleeves back up over my head
- I also tie belts from the belts around my thighs around the sleeves in the front for the same reason. Some real straight jackets have the same mechanism to keep the captive from pulling the arms over their head
- Sometimes I find ways to tie my ankles to either the belts around my thighs or the ones holding the sleeves behind my back. This leaves me in a hogtie.
- Now if you don't want to tie something around your thighs, you could tie something from the sleeves around back, through your crotch to the sleeves around front. This should have a similar effect to the crotch rope most straight jackets have.
- Lastly, pull your arms back into the sweater and work them into the sleeves. I find it's usually pretty easy to get them back in
- Struggle and have fun with it
Escape:
- Work your arms back out the sleeves. This usually takes more work than getting them in.
- If you didn't set up the fancy rigging, you should be able to work your arms back over your head and escape.

Dorm Room Spread Eagle
I figured this one out early my first year of college.
+==============================+
Dorm Room Spread Eagle
I figured this one out early my first year of college.
+==============================+
Materials:
- Disposable Handcuffs(I used These ones)
- D ring cloth belts(I ended up using 6, you need at minimum 4)
OR - Rope
Setup:
- First thing's first, tie scissors within reach of where one of your hands will be
- The theory here is that you are creating a framework of attachment points underneath your mattress so that your mattress holds you in place
- If you are using the belts, tie them in pairs of two so that the D rings are the width of your mattress apart. The D rings will be your attachment points
- If you are using rope, tie loops at the end of a rope and tie a knot in the middle of the rope(that is not a slip know) that will shorten it to have the same effect
- Place these underneath your mattress where your hands and feet will be. I also put them where my thighs are
Process:
- For anything that is not your last hand you can actually us anything to secure your ankles and first hand or any other part of your body to the attachment points below your mattress, I just found that since you get 10 of them in that package, might as well use them. For my things I actually did have to use more cloth belts though
- For the last attachment, your hand, attach the handcuff to your hand first. Then slide the other end of the handcuff through the D ring or loop of the last belt. It will take some dexterity, but it will be possible to cinch that last ratchet as tight as you can make it. I sometimes was able to use my mouth to pull it tight once it was in there
- Enjoy
Escape:
- To escape, the easiest way I found was to raise my arms past the edge of the mattress and slide the belts out from underneath the mattress
- You can actually use the scissors to press the ratchet down allowing you to reverse the handcuffs and reuse them(See video)

Trash Bag Vacuum Bed
This one actually was not inspired by the ever famous vac bed, but rather by a physics experiment.
+==============================+
Trash Bag Vacuum Bed
This one actually was not inspired by the ever famous vac bed, but rather by a physics experiment.
+==============================+
I WILL SAY IT SEVERAL TIMES THROUGHOUT THIS SECTION, NEVER PUT YOUR HEAD INSIDE AN UNPROFESSIONALLY MADE VACUUM BED. NO MATTER HOW SAFE YOU THINK YOU ARE BEING, YOU AREN'T.
That being said, if executed safely, this is one of the most satisfying of all of the techniques I talk about here.
Materials:
- Trash bags(I usually use contractor bags from home depot)
- Duct tape
- Vacuum(any kind with a hose)
- Something linen
- Outlet timer(optional, but hightly recommended)
Setup:
- Slice one trash bag at the bottom so that is open on the bottom and the top, but not the sides
- Tape this bag to the other one in such a way you end up with one bag big enough to hold you
- Set the timer to turn the outlet off at whatever time you want to escape by
- Plug the vacuum into the timer
Process:
- Slide into the bag with whatever linen thing you are using. I usually use a pillow or comforter. The purpose of this is to help the air flow from everywhere in the bag to the vacuum. If you don't use this, there is a chance you will only get suction in part of the bag
- Bring the head of the vacuum inside with you. I highly recommend you put the mouth somewhere it will be in contact with the linen object and not your skin
- Tear a piece of tape and use it to tape the bag shut around your neck(here's that one pseudo exception to the rule I mentioned. If you don't do this, the bondage doesn't work). PUTTING THIS HERE BECAUSE IT'S IMPORTANT. NEVER PUT YOUR HEAD INSIDE A SEALED TRASH BAG. EVER. THAT IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. ONLY EVER SEAL THE BAG AROUND YOUR NECK OR BELOW. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR STUPIDITY
- Lastly, turn the vacuum on
- Wait for the air to be sucked out around you and enjoy the tight feeling
Escape:
- Sometimes you can rip the bag with your fingers
- I find that I can use my big toes to rip the bag open
- Sometimes you can work your hands back to the vacuum head or the neck of the bag and rip it open.
- If all of these fail, hopefully you have a timer set to turn the vacuum off at a certain time, or else you may get caught
Safety:
- Obviously this is one of the most dangerous as it is the most restrictive and if you are stupid, you could suffocate
- Let me reiterate: NEVER PUT YOUR HEAD INSIDE AN UNPROFESSIONALLY MADE VACUUM BED
- If you follow this simple rule, you should have a great time
- Also, that timer is highly recommended, they are not too expensive and worth the second backup release
- Again, you will sweat, drink water to stave off dehydration

Exercise Ball Front Hog Tie
I don't remember how I thought this one up, but it's great for quick release.
+==============================+
Exercise Ball Front Hog Tie
I don't remember how I thought this one up, but it's great for quick release.
+==============================+
Materials:
- Exercise ball
- Rope
- Cloth Belts
Setup:
- Tie the rope so that you have four loops about 6 - 8 inches/15 - 20cm long
Process:
- Tie the cloth belts around your wrists and ankles each to their own loop in the belt. This should leave you in a loose front hog tie
- Here's the tricky part. Slide the exercise ball up through your legs so that it gets stuck between your four limbs and your torso. The ropes should act like a net holding the ball in place. I usually accomplish this step by sitting on a footrest, swinging my legs on top of the ball and sliding off the footrest, resulting in my weight pulling me down around the exercise ball
- Optional, tie more ropes and belts from elbow to elbow or elbow to knee to make it harder for the ball to become dislodged
Escape:
- Either reverse the process by using your elbows to push the ball back through your legs or push it through any of the other gaps between your limbs
NOTE: This can also be done in reverse for a more traditional hogtie behind your back, but be aware this is much more difficult to escape from. It was the only time I have ever been truly terrified I wouldn't escape before my parents got home. I'll leave it to you to figure out how to get in. I got out by sliding one of my hands out of its belt that it was tied in.
+==============================+
So this has been some of the most successful techniques I have used to tie myself up comfortably for the past 6 years. Please, I cannot emphasize safety enough. Think before you act. Ask yourself what could go wrong and learn from your mistakes. I have managed to avoid getting caught for 6 years because I always think about how to escape and what could go wrong.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Also, post your own inventive techniques in the comments. Let's break out of the same, old, boring, uncomfortable selfbondage techniques.
