TUGs are Safe!

Postby Paulscot » Tue Jun 03, 2014 12:43 pm

Many people who criticise/object to TUGs often use the safety aspect to "support their claims" - particularly in the UK where we have a "health and safety mad, nanny state" culture.

We don't use gags because I have asthma. I've has asthma attacks in school, church, college, town, playing football and in karate class. All of these are more "socially acceptable" to "mainstream society" than TUGs? I have NEVER had an asthma attack whilst tied/chained up!

I used to play on the school football team, and not long after my 14th birthday (I'm 18 in August), I fractured my ankle in an inter-schools match. I play football at college now.

Unless you buy specially made bondage equipment, most of the "materials" for TUGs can be bought cheaply in supermarkets or hardware stores, so TUGs don't have expensive start-up and running costs.

TUGs are safer and cheaper than all the situations mentioned above and many more?

Paul

I really don't know why more people especially in the UK aren't into tying up/bondage whatever you like to call it.

Can be done at home and easy entertainment as long as there's someone else there to tie you and let you out if you can't escape. .

It can be safe. But what makes it dangerous when compared to things like contact sports is that if you're not careful it can result in death. Clogging someone's air passageways or tying too tight and cutting off circulation could cost them a limb or their life. It's not too hard to keep it safe, but especially in more extreme situations there are precautions that need to be taken to make sure everyone is okay.

Yeah exactly. Keep a pair of scissors if you're using rope for a quick exit for your tie up partner to cut you out.

Have a safeword.

Check rope or cuff tightness. Check circulation (tickle!)

All things to help stay safe.

dont act like its completely safe...

It's not.

just be careful, the risks with tugs are there. always have an emergency release (self bondage) or a safe word or signal if you're doing it with someone. ALWAYS.

also i think its pretty obvious school, church, etc... are things which are more socially acceptable than tugs.

what we do is kind of weird. but its ok -- only people who like it get affected. it might not be very socially acceptable, but who cares? you're only going to be doing it with people you know really well anyway.

No nothing is completely safe at all and there's obvious risks in tying but as long as people don't tie themselves without a means of escape or if your being tied you set up all the things mentioned above everything should be fine.

I NEVER said it was completely and totally safe.

The comparison I was making was admittedly personal to me, but in the socially accepted activities listed I've experienced an asthma attack whereas I've never had one while tied up.

We always have a pair of scissors and a small first aid kit handy when doing TUGs. In my case, none of the family or friends I do TUGs with will tie me up unless I hand over my inhaler first.

No I never said it was completely safe either, just advice to try and mitigate any risk really.

Cycling for example is only safe if you wear a helmet and padding else you might injure yourself or worse.

It's all relative.

sorry, my first post was a bit horrible. but TUGs aren't safe!

the thing is with something like cycling, if you don't wear a helmet the consequences probably won't be as bad as with tugs. also, with cycling you can control your balance, speed, and where you cycle. you can't exactly control whether your nerves get damaged. with tugs you always need to stick to all of the safety rules. with other things you don't.

tugs are really fun and i really enjoy being tied up and whenever i have got tied up by someone else ive always been completely safe.

:bondage1: tugs are like a hammer: completely safe as long as you know how it is to be used. The degree of danger rises in proportion to recklessness or carelessness which can be enhanced by alcohol or drugs. Plat safe, play often, have fun... :bound:

Driving cars isn't safe either if you're on the same road as some idiot who pays no attention to the rules of the road.
Overall, at least as a teenager, I found TUGs to be pretty safe and fun despite the fact that we often took risks that many of us would frown upon in this more cautious day and age; such as leaving me tied and gagged and unattended for considerable stretches of time. But back then, even seat belts and auto insurance weren't mandatory and no thought it odd to ride in the back of a pick-up truck or let your dog ride with you on the front seat! It's all relative. As long as you're with people you can trust fully, TUGs are just as safe as any other activity and safer than some I can think of - like football. I have been injured playing sports, riding a bike, or driving a car (well, the car was the one that suffered the injury); in fact one time it was practically totaled although I myself didn't get a scratch); whereas I was never harmed playing TUGs with my friends.

cars have seatbelts, airbags, esp, etc. and some new cars you can get quite advanced safety things. so if you have a crash in a car you'll be ok (probably). i really like cars, i really want to be able to drive but im only 16. well i have driven before but it was just on a quiet road with no people on it. anyway at least im nearly old enough to drive :D. and when u can drive u can drive to places to meet people for tugs :D. and when u can drive you can get to places so much faster.

ive had a few accidents when riding a bike but most of them were my fault.

anyway for TUGs just stick to all of the safety rules, follow them completely, and then its safe, and then you can have lots of fun :D :D :D.

Just walking down the street isn't completely safe. A driver could jump the curb and hit you on the sidewalk.

Similarly, unless you can somehow manage to cycle completely away from cars, as a cyclist you can't control the idiocy of the drivers around you. If you don't wear a helmet, the consequences of an accident can be catastrophic - death or traumatic brain injury. The safety of TUGs depends on what's done and the physical condition of the person it's being done to. But in general I'd take the risk of TUGs over the risk of riding in traffic without a helmet any day of the week.

it's not just nerve damage. for example if you're sick or choke or get a blocked nose while wearing a gag...

i think tugs are fairly safe when all safety rules are followed, it's just when people skip them, especially in self bondage, bad things can happen. that's of course technically their fault, but it doesn't change that they're interested in this and got hurt, or died. and that's all the public sees unfortunately, which is why people use safety as an argument against tugs.

i didnt used to be this safety cautious but now i am, i think tugs are most dangerous in self bondage. whenever ive been tied by someone else though it's been more fun and i've been safe the whole time.

so basically what im saying is tugs are fairly safe as long as you follow the safety rules, and be extra cautious if you're tying yourself up.

Well, sure. Even there, it depends on the person and type of gag. A fully-wrapped tape gag over stuffing that completely fills and seals the mouth is less safe than a ball or cleave gag. I can breathe around a ball gag even if my nose is completely blocked.

Tugs are safe if practised properly, whether you are tying somone up, being tied yourself, or doing some self bondage. ALWAYS be safety concious, don't take risks.
