If you watch Fox News it may kill you

In response to Drawscore's comments praising Fox News here's an interesting article that demonstrates that Fox News may be VERY hazardous to your health.

I'm not a big fan of Fox News, but the Daily Kos is at least as laughable, if not more so, and I'm not really inclined to trust them either.

The average age of a Fox viewer is 68. That means over half the U.S. audience is on that very popular government run single-payer system known as Lyndoncare - aka Medicare. Next year will be the 50th anniversary.

Kyle, I guess you haven't signed up for the Affordable Care Act either. If this Daily Kos article is not true I'd like to see the proof.
CNN seems to have gotten lost in the Indian Ocean.
Personally, I am finding Al Jazerra America the most balanced of all the cable news shows on these days. Go figure!

I think BBC America is a far better source of straight or hard news, than al-Jazeera, the terrorists' and jihadists' mouthpiece.

Oh, and Jack, can you show us where anything I said about Fox News is false or inaccurate? Or are you just offering an opinion?

I would recommend BBC World Service (steam radio, I'm afraid). Most Brits with any brain (those whose radio listening is not entirely dominated by pop and old pop music on Radios 1 and 2) would believe that our "Auntie Beeb" is a reliable, neutral broadcaster but it is very noticeable, even in the language used, that World Service is far less partial.

xtc --- even in the middle of the Pacific (shades of capt. Bligh) I agree BBC is one of the better choices. Do you think they didn't give the full name for Fox? Perhaps in truth in Advertising it should be "Outfox"?

Truly spoken like someone who has never watched a moment of al-Jazeera.

Fox News is nothing even approaching news. It exists for one reason: to get their cantankerous white base angry and screaming "fuck you, got mine" as loudly as possible. Name me a single story broken by Fox or a single piece of investigative journalism.

The Benghazi cover up, for one. All the other cable and broadcast networks had their noses buried up Obama's ass. "Nothing top see here. Move along, move along." (Officer Barbrady)

And now, it turns out that there actually IS a connection between the Obama White House and the cover up. But the liberals will be quick to deny it or spin it, and carry on like Jay Carney, to whom even some of the most hard left members of the White House press corp, are becoming increasingly hostile because of his perceived pattern of lying to them. Even on the left, you can stretch the truth and get away with it, but if you flagrantly lie (or are perceived to flagrantly lie), like Carney has done, even your most ardent supporters will turn on you. And if you watch some of his press conferences, you'll see that Fox reporters aren't the only ones asking the hard questions, and demanding truthful answers.

Do you deny that al-Jazeera is based in the Middle East, and has been the "go to" outlet for al-Qaeda propaganda videos?" And a Pew Research study has shown that Fox's news to opinion ratio is 45-55. That's far better than BSDNC's ratio of 85% (liberal) opinion to 15% hard news. (No record of what the news to opinion ratio for al-Jazeera is.)

Here are four sites regarding news objectivity in general and Fox "News" in particular. One way that I personally determine any bias in the news is to just turn it on for a few moments randomly. With Fox it is invariably negative towards Obama and the Democrats; with MSNBC it is positive to the dems and negative, in general to the Republicans and conservatives, although it seems a lot more objective. I do listen to NPR and find it an excellent source of objective news, and Al Jazerra America, which is new to Hawaii, appears to be quite objective too.

Listening, reading or watching any one source all the time tends to warp one's views in their direction however, which is why multiple sources appear preferable.

How many Fox viewers do you think watched their coverage of Obamacare and said, "Hey, let's sign up!" Probably none, so to me that is a sure sign of bias. My original post here cited the Washington Post also, which did the follow up to this man's health problems and how he watched Fox News all the time. Seems like a little near death experience has a way of changing one's mind.

Do you think the fact that they're based in the Middle East (which is irrelevant to your claim) has anything to do with the fact that said videos wind up there instead at your local CBS affiliate?

"This study I'm not citing clearly beats the numbers I just made up for MSNBC under the assumption that people who *aren't* right wing nuts consume information the same way I do!". I notice you didn't answer my question.
But please, do go on about how a "news" organization cutting away from a joint US/German press conference on the crisis in Ukraine because "no one's asking about BENGHAZI BENGHAZI BENGHAZI" is a legitimate news source; especially when said "news source" claims to be the most-watched news channel while simultaneously whining about "mainstream media".

Really, all news networks have horrible advice. Some more than others. I think the lesson here isn't that Fox News will kill you, but that we should think for ourselves when it comes to what's best.

Okay. Obamacare, I get. It's new, a bit controversial, but this? How can anyone find this discussion acceptable. I can't even call this a news article because for that it would require actual news. Fox can take its backwards thinking, outdated, behind the times thinking and go fluff themselves with it.

>>>Name me a single story broken by Fox or a single piece of investigative journalism.<<<

I guess you missed: >>>The Benghazi cover up, for one. All the other cable and broadcast networks had their noses buried up Obama's ass. "Nothing top see here. Move along, move along." (Officer Barbrady)<<< Or perhaps, like Jay "Pinocchio" Carney, you don't consider that a piece of investigative journalism. But along that line, can you explain why the Obama administration withheld documents and e-mails from a congressional committee, and had to be sued under the Freedom of Information Act, by a conservative group, Judicial Watch, to release the material?

But I'm not going to change any minds here, and it is unlikely that anyone will change mine. Once you reach middle age, you become set in your ways, and it would take a lot to change you. There have been exceptions. David Brock is one. He used to be one of the lead writers for the Weekly Standard, a conservative publication. Now, he is one of the founders of Media Matters for America, an outfit somewhat to the left of Lenin and Stalin.

We can stand here and trade facts, accusations, suppositions, and opinions from now, until next Christmas, and what good would it do? The only thing it would accomplish, would be for me and other conservatives, to read the liberal pronouncements and opinions, and wonder how anyone could be any dumber than we originally thought. And vice versa. It's sort of like the adage "Never try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time, and annoys the pig."

So let's agree to disagree, and leave it at that.

But I will bet dollars to doughnuts, that there will be some dipsticks that will accuse me of being a coward, and claim that "the liberals win!" because I'm one pig that is tired and annoyed at the liberals trying to teach me to sing, and have decided to discontinue my part in this discussion.

And what was covered up, exactly? Odd that no one seems to have a coherent answer for that, and odder still that Fox has yet to show anything, aside from nattering on about who called it a terrorist attack when, which is the most irrelevant question there is. How many congressional investigations have there been that found no fault? How many do there need to be, how many members of the top brass of the military need to come out and say "there was nothing that could be done" before you vindictive morons finally accept it?

The more important question vis-avis this conversation is, why wasn't Fox News nearly as up in arms over the ELEVEN embassy/consulate attacks (and Benghazi was neither an embassy or a consulate) 2001-2009, to say nothing over the war waged under false pretenses using doctored "evidence" that killed over 4,000+ Americans or the ignored intelligence which led to 2,700+ being murdered on a certain September day you may remember?

You're suffering from the Dunning-Kruger effect, sparky. The first step toward pulling your head out of your ass is pulling it out of the echo chamber.

drawscore wrote:But I will bet dollars to doughnuts, that there will be some dipsticks that will accuse me of being a coward, and claim that "the liberals win!" because

There you go again; first you assume that other people get their information in the same way those who are ass-deep in the echo chamber do, then you assume they're in a discussion for the same reason people like you are. The way people "debate" in the right-wing noise machine is not how normal human beings actually speak to each other; no matter how much you want to make it a football game, it never will be. Keep rah-rahing for your "team" though, I'm sure the billionaires that pay the millionaires to scream this shit at you will be quite satisfied that you're doing their work for them.

After seeing all the lies on Faux News I cannot stand it being on the TV so I switch to BBC like automatically.

Today's GOP is too damn insane with wanting to punish the poor, cut taxs when we REALLY could use them, refusing to invest in our failing infrastructure, and just generally being a mouthpiece for the 0.01%.

Eric Bolling on Fox News earlier this week stating that "a lot of people" were saying Obama killed Osama bin Laden to deflect attention from Benghazi. One happened in May 2011, the other happened September 2012.

5/5/2014:

ERIC BOLLING: There's one more piece to this. Don't forget that this was prior — prior — to Osama bin Laden being taken down, and the thought was, and the discussion was, is President Obama going into the re-election soft on terror or not? A lot of people were saying.... It was after?

DANA PERINO: Yeah, yeah, yeah. A year.

ERIC BOLLING: My bad, I take it back.

DANA PERINO: But a great point if it were true.

Yes, please tell us more about what the voices in your head were saying in this alternate reality. FAIR AND BALANCED!

That is an astute observation. Too many of us just lap up whatever the networks (including Fox) feed us, and have no tolerance for opinions other than those in agreement with our own.
