The things ya learn while surfin’ da net...
My mother was once a champion ballroom dancer, but somehow that genetic line failed to pass on to me. I’m starting to regret it because I have just learnt about an event at Ceroc dancing called Girls Blindfolded. The name is self-explanatory, but I shall explain anyway.
(I knew about Ceroc, just not about the blindfold bit.)
Here are a couple of Youtube videos I have just discovered:

It’s like any dance in which the male partner leads, but the girl wears a blindfold, so the man can demonstrate his ability to lead and guide his partner. She shows her skills in following his lead, and from what I can see, in staying upright. The girls have a harder time than their partners – you see one of them every so often slip or stumble. But it looks like it’s a lot of fun.
Sometimes it’s combined with another event, Dance With a Stranger, in which the girl is passed from one partner to another, not knowing who he is and having to adjust to his style without ending up on her backside in the middle of the dance floor.
Oh, where did I put my little red dancing shoes?
(I posted this in the Yahoo BIEL group as well, although I’m sure there’s a lot of crossover between this group and that.)
