Why do we bother

Postby bandit666 » Wed Jul 26, 2017 11:41 am

I know this isn't really a new comment but having looked at the number of good, even great stories out there. As a member that has writen and posted here for a long while now. And like most of those who do so put my heart and soul into what ive posted. I have begun to ask why any off us bother. Most of you read them, most of you enjoy them and yet you rarely bother to leave a comment. It is down heartening to say the least. And yet if not for all of us who take the time to post our writing and thoughts there wouldn't be a site at all. There'd be no point in certain people paying for it to be here. Paying out of their own pockets I might add.

I have heard the comments about it not being members looking at the stories. But really only two or three views out of 700+ from members!!!!

So please come on leave a comment. Even if it's simply saying "like" or "would like more". Post something to tell all us writers we're not wasting our time

It would also help new members to wanna/be more likely to write more. Good points!

I knew there was a big gap between the number of views and the number of comments, but couldn't imagine it was that huge
That's sad indeed :(

Hi Bandit,
Welcome to the league of Dead Horse Floggers.
I live in hopes that people would comment on the stories to the same extent that they do lon other threads. Oh, well.

Hello xtc

Yes I know what you mean...and I am no doubt in the grand scheme of things flogging a dead horse as you say...and yet I hope just a few members might realise what they could loose if it doesn't change

Well I think it's also because most of the views are from people who don’t have a profile here, so they can't comment
What are you looking at? Finally put a gag in my mouth and play with me!

A like button would by helpful, for keeping users anonymous or add a thumbs picture, may be I could draw a thumbs up picture and attach it to stories I like, cause sometimes I get carried away like now for instance, ride'em cowboy, thumbs up soldier.

I agree to a certain extent; however, if you go for numbers, don't forget that the search engine bots also count as "view".

I got honestly very disappointed myself, kinda drained my will to write. I know maybe my stories aren't the best out there (also since they are real, no fancy stuff) but getting 0 comments is disheartening

I understand where everyone is coming from, and I was part of the problem for a while, but do not just stop writing and posting your stories on here. If you and others that get sick of the no comments stop writing and posting stories on here than this site would be no longer at some point. It would end up getting worse and worse after a while. I had a similar issue in College when I was on the student events board to setup events for the College. Many and many events would be put on but very few people showed up, even though it was an event that they requested from us. The board and everyone on it just needs to continue doing what they love to do, but also to learn to change with the times. If we do not change with the times then yet again we may not exist for much longer in the way that we have gotten to love.

I'm not sure. But I have seen a few things people have suggested this site have that. If there was a way to setup some of those features for a trial period, I think that would be a way where we can try out new ideas and see what ones stick and what ones do not. Of course, I do not want to overload you moderators, but if these work, they could potentially bring life back into this site in a way that some people want.

I quit bothering a long time ago. I would like to write for this site again but I see that things are still the way they are. Sigh, guess a comment that wouldnt take but a couple minutes at the most is too much for peoe these days...

I also think a few things need to change, especially guests allowed to read all content. Making users have profile photos or filing out profiles with their AGE would help as well, especially for those who like to role play so we know who is "legal" for adult content conversations. I've had a few on here lie about their age, so the "age" profile deal may not even work if they are going to lie about it.

I admit that I am part of the problem as well, because I stopped writing stories only because we had Professors that made it feel like English class and would pick at small error and mistakes. If someone *asks* to proofread or for their opinion, then that's an entirely different story, but we have way too many "Grammar-Nazi" type people on here. As long as you can read it, you should thank the person contributing. I do understand about laziness, but I am not lazy and I had my "paper" corrected like it was a final exam...all was missing was a grade at the top of the paper. /end sarcasm -- Seriously, we are not selling novels. I do comment on stories that I read, but it has to be m/m... I am just not into m/f or f/f. I have tried to read a few before, but I had to stop. I am sure they are great stories, but it's not for me. I guess I could comment with "thanks for contributing," because it would be better than nothing, but I would not be reading the story, so would my comment still be truthful?

As for commenting and contributing, I am not even sure if this forum is capable of having (or implementing) some kind of score system? Like, you need a certain amount of points to post stories, reply to stories, etc. If you are inactive for a certain period of time, you are automatically removed. I think that is a phpBB feature that they need to add and nothing the moderators can do.

I also think *politics* should be removed. Yeah, it's in a "OT" category, but should it really belong on a bondage forum?

Like chadmc90, I, also, quit bothering, and it's much easier for me to post stories, since I have more than 50 already composed. All I need to do, is "cut and paste."

But the lack of commentary/feedback discouraged me. I worked hard on them, but when people are too lazy to ever write a two word commentary ("Pretty good;" "great story;" or even "it sucked"), it sort of creeps into your mind that those who read the story (usually three figures) and did not leave any feedback, are a bunch of ingrates and ungrateful weasels, so I'm not going to waste my efforts on them, even when it's as simple as cutting and pasting.

Writers are a strange bunch. They thrive on attention, and most think their work is the greatest thing since sliced bread, and all the other writers are no-talent hacks. (Most are also too polite to say that to another writer, either in public, or in private, but most of them sure think it.) :D I've been around magazine and newspaper writers, and I know.

Exactly... Would the ones with perfect grammar, punctuation, and "Oh, I never make any mistakes," that also reply to other stories and correct their grammar be included in this category as well? I almost feel like they think they are "God" in a way.

At least you are honest. :) No, I would not put you in that category (but I know people on here that I would...sadly, one person that I know, for sure, would be honored and proud to be placed in this category.)

Well my experience with commenting is after I make the comment I leave the site and come back on it frustrates me when I do that, on a cellphone you might get logged out while reading a story, since I don't care one way or the other if I get a comment on my story, I continue until I lose interest in writing it, besides nobody likes a guy other pantyhose fetish LMAO.

It's great to see such a response to what I had to say. It looks like im not the only one who sometimes wonders why I post here. Or why I even write as well. There's others in the same boat. Some that I am sure would only add to the sites overall appeal.

So yes maybe a thumbs up is a way ahead, maybe even let guests be able to use it. Anything that encourages us to write. And makes others write for the first time. Or write once more. We all have stories and subjects we like. Im not saying everyone should read everyone else's story just lets get some response. Show us were not doing it for nothing

In my case, I would love to comment more on stories but I don't know what to write and I'm not just gonna write "Nice", "I want more" or something differently worded but the same in meaning because it's just boring and your not really helping the writer in my opinion. It's nice to say those things once in a while but if they become a habit, you don't get what you really mean.
Woah, don't mind if I do.

Thank you I do watch out for your work as well you have good ideas but if I could be so bold and mean no insult here it would be great if you continued your stories for longer. I would even be happy if you bounce ideas off me. Especially if like me you get writers block sometimes
