Postby SuperRedbaron221 » Thu Jan 06, 2011 7:24 pm

Does anyone know what the true meaning of life is? What is the goal of mankind? What does mankind want to accomplish before we go extinct, and will it even matter when we do go extinct? Please reply!(and no one-sentence replys please explain and discuss thats one of my pet peeves)

For those who did not understand xtc's reply please refer to the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series.
As for me, I think the late Carl Sagan said it best: Intelligent life is how the Universe is able to understand itself.
Well, that may be brief but a least I think it's self explanatory. :D

Which reminds me; a goal of the human race should also be to develop our technology enough so that we can colonize alien worlds (those that aren't already occupied by intelligent life forms, that is) elsewhere in the galaxy, so that Humanity is so widespread that no single catastrophe - even a supernova explosion - can wipe us out entirely.

BTW Sorry for the disruption above, Superredbaron. I'll delete my own posts up above so that they don't continue to sidetrack your original subject.

Perhaps that is also the real meaing of life... enjoying life while we can.
For example, some (mostly joyless) people say sex is only for reproducing, but the REAL reason anyone actually does it is because it's FUN!
Therefore, enjoyment is fundamenal to life!

In my humble opinion.... humanity is a festering malignancy on the face of this planet, and that the tumor only needs to be excised. I believe the initial biopsy is being conducted as we speak..... Now, we just need a qualified specialist to conduct the procedure.

If the biopsy is still being performed, how do you already know it's malignant? :3

The human race is just a chemical scum on a moderate-sized planet orbiting round a very average star in the outer suburb of one among a hundred billion galaxies.

Okay, how about this... the meaning of life is exactly the same as the meaning of water being composed of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom...
In other words...
There isn't any meaning... it just IS!
The speed of light has no meaning; it's just how the Universe is.
The fact that there are four states of matter (solid, liquid, gas, plasma) has no meaning, that's just the way it is.
The fact that the sun fuses hydrogen into helium to create energy has no meaning; it just is (luckily though for us!).
Life has no meaning... it just is!
Though if the first three things (and many others) weren't true, there would BE no life... period.
It took a very, VERY complex set of parameters to make life and consciousness (as we understand these terms anyway) possible.
There may be a *purpose*... but not necessarily a meaning.
Unless you believe in God. Which I do. Not necessarily the same one people like Jay seem to believe in, but I still believe there IS one.
But if He/She/It has decreed that there is any special meaning to my life, He/She/It hasn't bothered to tell me what it is.
So I just enjoy life as much as I can for as long as I can.
Animals don't need a reason to enjoy life; they just do! Maybe they're one up on humans in that regard, seeking no meaning where pehaps there IS none!
Also, what seems like a valid meaning of life for me may not necessarily be valid for anyone else.. and vice versa.
So in the main, it is probably a question without an absolute answer... or even ANY answer, just as the Universe has no center (or edge) and laws like the Special Theory of Relativity and the Heiseberg Uncertainy Principle prove that there are NO absolutes about ANYTHING. It's all relative, regardless of what the religious zealots say.

The meaning of life is food.
Living stuff eat, all food is living stuff (perhaps condimented with a mineral or 2), and if you'd like to believe PETA we're food too, at least to the same extent a cow is.
Your goal in life: Deliciousness.

Take it as yo will~

Puts new meaning to the expletive, "Eat me!", doesn't it?
