Wherever Obama goes, disaster will soon strike...

Postby SuperRedbaron221 » Wed Dec 29, 2010 6:18 pm

Think about this. Obama became the President of the United States, our economy disintegrated. He recently went on a diplomatic trip to Iceland, and a volcano erupted, closing airports in almost every country near Iceland. Everywhere he goes, something bad will happen when he leaves.

You need to do some serious research. The disintegration of the ecconomy goes back to 2007, two years before Obama became Prez. And a volcano? That's like saying 9-11 was caused by America's coddling gays and feminists!

It wasn't?

Well, at least it's different than the usual nonsense of George Bush causing Hurricane Katrina or something stupid like that. But it's about on that level. I'm going to assume this was a sarcastic post. I have to admit I did laugh at the connection of Obama and the volcano.

No, Hurricane Katrina was caused by Chuck Norris

While you're at it, maybe you should tell MSNBC to do the same to Keith Olbermann.

Actually, I was going to just post that above to show the absurdity of bringing up Fox for the 632nd time when it has nothing to do with the topic, but after thinking about it, it actually fits in pretty well with the general tone of this thread.

It's difficult for me not to, especially when discussing politics. Fox is the loudest, most obnoxious mouthpiece for all that I detest. Those far right conservatives that have ruined the party for moderate republicans are welcomed there with open arms- their thinly veiled bullshit given undue legitimacy.

MSNBC serves the same purpose for the far left, though the vitriol and hatred isn't nearly as intense.

The media and modern political discourse are inseparable. It's the vehicle through which the propaganda from both sides of the spectrum is spread. You can't have one without the other.

You should come to Australia and experience our political discourse. The average media outlet is somewhere to the right of one of Genghis Khan’s outriders.

That's interesting... I know little about Australian politics. So... the Aussie meda skews right. Does this accurately represent the political leanings of the population? I imagine that Australia might mimic the geopolitical patterns of the U.S.- liberals more concentrated in urban areas, with rural agricultural/ranching areas being more conservative??

No, it reflects the political leanings of the media ownership.
Ever heard of that famous Australian-born man of the people, Rupert Murdoch?

“…liberals more concentrated in urban areas, with rural agricultural/ranching areas being more conservative?”
Yes, definitely. But bizarrely, the Liberal Party here is conservative-reactionary and the National Party is a right-wing rural rump. We Ozzies have trouble naming things.

Arguing? Who’s arguing?

Man: I came here for a good argument.
Mr Vibrating: No you didn’t, you came here for an argument.
Man: Well, an argument’s not the same as contradiction.
Mr Vibrating: It can be.
Man: No it can’t. An argument is a connected series of statements to establish a definite proposition.
Mr Vibrating: No it isn’t.
Man: Yes it is. It isn’t just contradiction.
Mr Vibrating: Look, if I argue with you, I must take up a contrary position.
Man: But it isn’t just saying ‘No it isn’t’.
Mr Vibrating: Yes it is.
Man: No it isn’t. Argument is an intellectual process. Contradiction is just the automatic gainsaying of anything the other person says.
Mr Vibrating: No it isn’t.
Man: Yes it is.
Mr Vibrating: Not at all.
Man: Now look!
Mr Vibrating: That’s it. Good morning.
Man: But I was just getting interested.
