Have people left the board?

Postby Headmistress » Thu Mar 13, 2014 5:25 am

I've been writing on both the True and Fictional boards for a few years now and I've noticed a lot of
the users seem to have disappeared?

Has the numbers of users declined or is it just me imagining things??

I tried to quit bondage so I can confirm people take "breaks"
Most will come back at some point however
Tickle me, I dare you! See what it gets you! Well, probably not much because I secretly enjoy it :P

Some of us have simply taken to posting much less often than we used to as well for one reason or another. But yeah, I've been noticing a steady decline in new posts from longer-established members for quite some time now.

I still comment but I'm trying to conserve myself or I risk getting burned out.

Commenting per se doesn't burn me out, but the pace with which i have felt pressured (unintentionally) to write stories definitely has been having that effect on me. I've had to take a break because I've been feeling tired and I've had little feedback to my stories to encourage me to keep going unless I feel completely up to it.
This may be one reason why so many other good writers here are also much less active than they used to be. in fact, I know that this is the case with a few of them. It's hard to go on when one works hard to write stories here while feeling under-appreciated. Writing consistently can be hard work, and when one's readership doesn't respond it can be very discouraging.

Yeah I know how that feels, I posted a simple story for Christmas last year and no one responded making me feel very much blue. Not even so much as a Merry Christmas. :(

And an early happy St Patrick's day to you too.
I've posted several stories, some with several chapters, over the last few months (though none were Christmas stories) that got no feedback at all either. So it happens to us all. And I think that this is in fact one big reason why this board seems to be so much quieter lately. It's becoming a vicious circle.

Generally speaking, Jason, I agree but I think things are looking up generally.

I'm wondering if the extended downtime made some people give up on the board.

I too think that long downtime last fall caused the loss of quite a few members. As for myself, I thought the site had been deleted. I came back when a member who had my email address notified me that TUGS was finally back up.

But people leave for all kinds of reasons, I am sure.

One thing that is irksome to me is my own inability to navigate the interface to find some threads that I read and try to get back into a few days later and I sometimes just can't find the thread again. Yet TUG interface in general is pretty darn neat. One of the best out there, in my opinion.

And the moderators have been terrific communicators.

One way to more easily find threads you like is to comment on them yourself at least once. Then those same threads will pop up on the view your posts tab every time someone else comments on that same thread. Easier to keep track of the ongoing topics that way.

Jason : A few days ago I commented on loosing track of threads, and you suggested more effective use of the view your posts tab would help. You are right. That has proven to be a very useful tool.

I enjoy reading about actual true tie up stories, but find most to be fiction, even the more intimate tugs seem to be fiction, which I would think should be true. I use to enjoy Stanparks' stories, but he has disappeared.

I've found in myself a strange vicious circle as regards participation on the boards. I have two stories going, one on Fictional TUGs and one on Fictional PG-17 TUGs, and maybe three people, at most, actually post replies to what I write (really, is it that bad? With no replies, I can't really tell!). The frustration of getting few replies to my work actually tends to make me less interested in replying to anyone else's work. Puerile on my part, I suppose, but the feeling is real. The internal process might best be described as "if no one replies to my stories, why should I reply to theirs?" Writing without replies essentially amounts to shouting in a vacuum; one eventually stops since no one is answering...

I agree and think that the down time may have driven some people away, but it seems like there's still enough activity for a good number of users to be involved.

That said, my stories could always use more comments and feedback! :D

Also, I'm guilty of what I'm complaining about even, but the topic matter of some stories on the website (like the "kid" imaginary TUGs stories; I'm more a fan of the real-life kidnapping/burglary/etc. scenarios) just don't cater to my interests, but there are plenty of people for whom they do. You also get the occasional story that's just...not good in terms of grammar or spelling, which can really drag it down for me personally.

Personally, I was originally attracted to this site because I like tie up and escape games, not hard core, sexually oriented bondage. I found increasing amounts of sexual, homosexual, and hard core content which turned me off. As has already been said, too many stories are fiction or ingratiated even in supposedly true sections. A story can be going along fine and all of a sudden it turns into nudity or sex. Not my thing...at all! I still come back from time to time in case something good pops up. I enjoy sharing my experiences, but not nasty perversions. Just my opinion, and my honest response to your question from one who indeed comes here less. And, BTW, I don't always respond to posts I read. Perhaps I should if it means so much to the writer. I can see where it would.

I think the focus because some got older and now to have do her job. If think had in childhood also non-sexual tie up and escape games with female friend. We move away before get adult so not I know if had change in sexual if I had not move.

Jason, You are absolutely correct that your response arrived quicker than a frog could jump off a lilly pad. My comment above is a little off: "A few days ago I commented" would have been clearer had I said : "March 21st I posted..." and you did indeed answer on March 21st, so fast that my head spun!!

Your responsiveness to my queries has always been spot on.

If this was purely a story-driven board, I probably would've left a long time ago too. I've long since posted most of the real-life youth stories I have and hit writer's block trying to write a few more fictional stories. If I get a good idea for one I'll write it up but as someone else said, I have grown a little older even in the 5 years I've been a member here and life has changed. It's the TUGs Talk and other sections that keep me coming back here.

People move on. I've now been here longer than most members. I'll be honest, at times I wonder if that isn't a hint I should move on. I know I'm not nearly the oldest one here (no offense anyone...) but I've reached the point I'm older than a lot of users here, and I'm now FIFTEEN years older than someone I saw who posted recently. But I still find it interesting enough I keep coming back.

Shoot laddie - you're only about exactly half my age, and I'm not the oldest member on the board either. You're not ready to be taken out to pasture just yet!
