Friends

I have two or three, with whom I regularly correspond, but it seems that lately, they have all disappeared off the face of the earth. I do hope that is not a bad omen.

Being a private person, and acting on the assumption that they are also private people, I will not mention any names.

I've had similar experiences both on line and in real life. Unfortunately it seems to be a very common experience.... especially among people who enjoy arguing; and I'd say we're both guilty of that trait.

True, but these are people with whom I seldom discussed politics.

Same here. Or religion either (the other great polarizer).

But I do worry. (at least a little) I do hope nothing untoward happened, but that's always a possibility, even in places like Massachusetts, New York, Oregon, California, and Washington.

If your friends are as old as you and I are (and most of mine are close to my age), it's probably a natural occurrence to lose touch even if nothing in particular is ailing them. Of course, one thing to do is simply contact as many of them as you can and see who responds. Those that don't reply are either unable and unwilling to do so; for me it wouldn't make much difference which reason it was and I'd probably prefer not to know either.

You're probably right. I'll give it another week to 10 days, then, if they do not respond to e-mails, then the hell with it. I'll wait until they contact me.
