News or the world

There's a huge scandal about the paper news of the world now widely know as ''those sick bastards''

Recently some news about their ''work'' has been discovered. Aperantly they think its fun to hack into the celphone of a missing and later killed girl so they can view her messenges and delete them. Because the parents could see that their messages where read and deleted they had some hope their daughter was still alive...it turned out to be some sick journalist looking for a story.

Was there any reason for this? i don't believe the content of those mesages was ever revealed if it been posted in the paper we would have known this sooner. Did they think it was fun? Did they want to give the parents hope and then dash it again simply because (understandeble) emotional parents give a much ''better'' response for a newpaper?

And after the terorist bombing in London they tried to hack the cellphone of the friends and family of many victims probably so they could use those reactions in ''the news''. Does anyone want to guess what they did to the widows of fallen soldiers in Irak?

I find it incredibly sick! all three examples are disgusting! :x British people why am i NOT seeing an angry mob with torches and pitchforks in front of their main building? or all their buildings for that matter?

Everyone lets grab our torches and pitcforks!

(Not trying to be funny with that last part)

It certainly is pretty sick. In fact, the British government is going after the perpetrators big time. And more importantly, the people are no longer utilizing the sites, so they will loose income and that could put them right out of business.

The only problem is, there is a concern that this may have been a laid-off, two way hack, where the evil deed looks as though it originated from a specific source, but may have been "laid-off" that site from yet another originator!! They will be traced.

The "News of the Screws" as it has been called has gone. The Dirty Digger (Murdoch) sacrificed it to save his bid to control even more British media.
Problem: he kept the woman who was in charge at the time and left current staff to sink.

Coming soon "The Sun on Sunday". I'm taking bets.

The fact the News of the World is to close came as a shock when first I heard about it but now I think I'm not totally surprised. Can I be the first person brave enough (or stupid enough) to admit that we do (did) buy the News of the World in our house. :mouthopen: (I will add that it's not my choice of paper and I only read the football... I do tend to wrap the thing inside a Sunday Post whenever I'm the one that gets the papers).

As has already been said, this is damage limitation from the power-hungry Murdochs. Tbh any battering their reputation takes is a victory for liberty and democracy in the UK. Never mind swinging public opinion and mudslinging; they have literally tried to run the country for the last couple of decades. I am glad there will be a full and frank investigation and hopefully this sacrifice will not be a big enough piece of meat to keep the wolves away from the Murdoch door.

One might ask How can I, as a (ex) reader, possibly defend or condone the actions of the News of the World? Simple answer: I 100% do not. I am a moral person and, like everyone else, I have been utterly sickened at the lengths they will go to for the story they want to tell. We really should have seen this coming when there was the issue of the celebrity phone-hacking. There is clearly nothing they won't do for a story. Remember the Victoria Beckham kidnap plot? (And they managed to play the hero card there) Remember John Higgins? And how many times they got away with the Fake Sheik... I'm sure the list can go on. Were the paper not closing down I doubt we would continue our readership anyway.

But before I go and grab my pitchfork and light a flaming torch, I would echo the excellent point made by xtc. The current staff who are about to lose their jobs have nothing to do with the scandal - nor do a lot of those working on the paper at the time. In some cases a Private Investigator was hired and it was that PI who did the hacking. Upshot: the wrong people are being punished. Will they get jobs with the inevitable reboot paper? I hope so. Oh and xtc - they'll have to be careful - if you're wager had been on the title "The Sunday Sun" I would've bet against that happening - if only because there already is a paper going by that name

So I understand but "persons unknown" apparently registered suitabe titles shortly before Captain Murdoch (aka The Dirty Digger) threw the slaves overboard.
