Remembrance Day

Postby myself1931 » Fri Nov 04, 2011 6:48 pm

So, how is everyone planning on paying their respects this Remembrance Day? Are you going to go to a local legion service, a church service, are you going to observe a moment of silence? I am just curious as to how others pay their respects, especially those in other countries.
Finally got out of that small town, I now live in Toronto. Anyone nearby feel free to hit me up.

Hmm I'll wear a red poppy and recite "Reply to Flander's Fields."
From whence I came and whence I went heaven said I was too evil and sent me to hell. Demons and devils succeeded in breaking my soul.

Its honering the veterans and victims from WWI.

My country didn't join that war so we don't really pay attention to remembrance day.

You will not believe this outrageous question I found on yahoo answers:

Here are the exact details:

I was wondering if any 1 else is going to be skipping remembrance day ceromony because it is a bunch of junk and nonsense for thanks and blah blah blah and she was An American citizen!!

I answered back in outrage, and she emailed to me to shut up and that no one cares about me or remembrance day, only stupid heads do, and them she somehow erased my answer!!

That ******************************* sorry for the outrage.

Her outrage and ignorance are her problems. Don't worry about it. Refer her to the song, "Willy McBride". IF she has any compassion or understanding at all (Whch I doubt as far as the understanding is concerned.) and remains un-moved, just check for vital signs before calling the ambulance - or not!

It's a problem that people don't care. I'm doing my eagle scout project for the veterans in my neighborhood. I've already had someone say "that's a stupid idea." People seem to be so caught up in themselves that they take for granted all the miseries of the past.

It is a sad day when people are so ignorant about our veterans. It is even sadder when you consider America's ignorance towards Canadian war vets. For example, who remembers Fox's show Red Eye, and the comments they made back in 2009. If you don't, heres a video of their show that day: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9tf0-BIyU0

However, for me, it is videos like this that make me cry: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3IutxvltBM

For Remembrance Day, I will be attending the local service with my cadet squadron, then serving dinner to the vets that evening. This is how i show my thanks.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

We will remember.

Reply to Flander's Fields

"Oh ye who sleep in Flander's Fields
Sleep sweet to rise anew.
We caught the torch you threw
and holding high we keep the faith
with all who died.

We cherish too the poppy red
that grows on fields where valor led.
It seems to signal to the skies
that blood of heroes never dies,
But lends a lustre to the red
of the flower that blooms above the dead
in Flander's Fields.

So now the torch and poppy red
we wear in honor of our dead.
Feel not that ye have died for naught
We've learned the lesson that ye taught
in Flander's Fields."
From whence I came and whence I went heaven said I was too evil and sent me to hell. Demons and devils succeeded in breaking my soul.
