Afraid to die

Postby mikeybound » Sun Dec 30, 2012 10:11 pm

It's probably a combination of things. The first aneversery of my grandmas death, the Sandy shooting, 2012 passing. Christmas night I was struck with a lingering terror of dying. Even at the young age of 20, I just can't shake the thought that it will happen.
I've tried every rationalization. My death will bring new life, my legacy will endure, the time after my life will mean about as much to me as te time before. Nothing helps!
I really feel bad about bringing readers down, but can you help me? I need something to stop the fear.

first of all...*hugs tightly*

You won't die friend. I've had experiences where I thought I was going to die in a certain way but it never came to pass.

Much like the Myan calender you will move on. Healthy, alive, and well.

But if you want to talk over skype and want someone to be with you I will.

But it will happen. Sometime. Even if it's 80 years from now, I'll die. And I don't believe in an afterlife.

Nether do I.

We all WILL die at some point. But we'll be returning to the earth.

This is a good feeling hold onto it everyone dies one day. I don't believe in an afterlife either and a sense of mortality is healthy. It makes the time you have here all that much more special because you know it's limited. In my opinion it gives you guts to act on things you otherwise wouldn't do. It's the reason I play extreme sports well that and because I'm mad.

Edit: If you want to talk more pm me.

Scientific (rather than religious) proof that there IS an Afterlife: :geek:
Ever hear that the chances of any of us ever being born is something like trillions to one against... yet here we are?
That's because scientists believe there is an infinity of universes... so that everything that CAN happen WILL happen in at least some of them.
Because of this, your life was NOT a trillion-to-one fluke; actually it was inevitable.
Moreover, there is an infinity of universes in which each of us exist. Therefore, your life is inevitable not just once, but an infinity of times.
Because there ARE an infinity of universes, each of us will live life an infinite number of times - with concurrent infinite variety, so that everything that CAN happen to us WILL happen to us sooner or later, in one life or another. Only once per universe though, of course. Think of it as trans-universal reincarnation. And life will never grow old, because memories don't last from one incarnation to the next, so each one you live you'll think is your first one. In actually then, you've already lived billions of lives in as many universes and will live billions more.
Some of these lives will be similar to your current one; others will be completely different.
Does that help? 8)
If not... well, maybe you're sad just because it's winter! Things will most likely look up in the spring. In any case, you're too young to feel like this. Hell, I'm 56 with a life nowhere near as interesting as it was when I was a teenager, and yet though I have fits of depression even *I* don't get all gloomy like that! Just think oif the positive things in life instead, and things WILL get better.

Die, my ass! I'll NEVER die. Heaven doesn't want me, and Hell's afraid I'll take over.

Actually, there was a survey done some years ago, and while death is right up there in the list of things people fear, it was not at the top. Holding down the top spot, was public speaking. For some reason, the thought of having to go out and speak in front of an audience of 15 or more, just flat out scares the hell out of people.

But really, there are only two things you need to worry about: Either you're healthy. or you're sick.
If you're healthy, you have nothing to worry about; if you're sick, you have two things to worry about: You either get better, or you get worse.
If you get better, you have nothing to worry about; if you get worse, you have two things to worry about: You either live, or you die.
If you live, you have nothing to worry about. If you die, you have two things to worry about: You either go to Heaven, or go to Hell.
If you go to Heaven, you have nothing to worry about. If you go to Hell, you'll be so busy shaking hands with all of your friends, you won't have time to worry.

Also consider that those who have concerns about death and dying, often mask those concerns behind a facade of humor, particularly dark humor.

But death is inevitable. Most of us will live to our allotted "three score and ten," and with advances in modern medicine, quite possibly, much longer. Some will leave this mortal coil earlier, but the mystery of life is in not knowing when it will end. Enjoy it while you are able.

Heh, Jerry Seinfeld pointend this out once.

"Do you know what this means?!? If people are going to a funeral they would rather be in the casket than giving the eulogy!"

The thing about death is not that we are afraid of dying itself but more often than not it is the unknown that we fear, what will happen to us, ect. The phrase 'You only live once' is so important if you are afraid of death, after all every single person has fears but those who have no regrets when they die are those who have conquered their fears. If you let fear hold you back now then it will take hold when you are older and let's face it, once your fears take over its too late, talk to someone and discus it or it will get worse and worse. The shootings are horrific but the important thing to remember is generally most people go peacefuly. Just think when the time comes in 60 odd years you will probably go peacefully and with no regrets, you may even be ready to go.

Hope I helped and feel free to PM me (Anyone)

60? Please! At least 80.
Something that actually helped me is thinking about how at least my bio mass will exist forever. I like to imagine my protin and carbohydrates eventually being consumed by people (not directly. I draw the line at cannabalism) and the lives they can have because of me. :-)

A score is 20, so three score and ten would be 70. The average lifespan for an American male, is around 79.7 years. That average varies from country to country.

Personally, I wouldn't want to live past 80 unless I was healthier than I have any right to expect by then. My aunt is 88 and doing pretty well but my mom's health was so poor after she turned 80 that it was a mercy that she died soon afterward. I'm much more afraid of being old and decrepit than I am of dying younger.
