A story I'm thinking of writing.

Postby three time's a duct taping » Sat Jan 14, 2012 11:27 am

I was curious. I know that a few members of the site have their oppositions to darker edges to storytelling. However, it is a natural facet of my style. I was curious as to how dark I could get with a story before people began to dislike a story?
forgive my asking, but A ) better safe than sorry, and B ) I try to push boundaries whenever I write.

All the best.

Well, while I'm here, I might as well ask how you fine people would tie me up?
medium build, but rather short for my age (17)
After that, I do like tape.

It all depends what you mean by "darker edge". I too write fairly dark stuff but I don't post it here. I have to be aware of the word "Games" in the name of the site. That makes life difficult at times when a story grows from an aspect of, say, the "innocent" Troop v Troop saga but concentrates on violence and/or involuntary imprisonment/torture. It is simply not suited to this site. I post on DeviantArt as Xtcgm but, even there, I seem to be fighting the morality police for work that passes here without agressive comment.

If you want to pm me with a draft for comment, please do. I don't want to read about rape (either homo- or heterosexual) or vampires (gay or straight)!

Rape or vampires, you say? Well, there's one arc out the window.
*ahem* I kid, of course. Well, this is the exact reason I asked. It won't be written for a while, as I have exams coming up, but It will be written within the next few weeks.
Thank you for your comment.

As xtc mentions, the site name refers specifically to “games.” The forum rules also make a distinction between TUGs and bondage.
But I find that the “games” element actually gives me more latitude, since I set most of my stories in a fantasy world – in other words they become a role-playing game.

As for no vampires – I heartily agree! Mainly because they are so passé.
There have been no decent vamps since the Buffy years.
SPIKE: Come up against this Slayer yet?
ANGEL: She’s cute. Not too bright, though. Gave the puppy dog ‘I’m all tortured’ act. Keeps her off my back when I feed.
SPIKE: People still fall for that Anne Rice routine. What a world!

I agree with Sarobah. Except when I have a dream that becomes a story I usually write in fantasy rp fashion too for my stories here.
From whence I came and whence I went heaven said I was too evil and sent me to hell. Demons and devils succeeded in breaking my soul.

Oh, come on folks, let's not start agreeing with one another or this could get boring!

I'd say a good rule of thumb to use is to think about what would be passable in a book aimed at teens. You wouldn't be writing about explicit sex, torture, rape, or a lot of general bloodshed in books like that, and it's not really something that should be written about here. But if you write about a kidnapping that's moderately realistic I think a little bit of fear in the eyes of the victim is expected. I don't think we need to have stories on this site about kidnapping victims being completely warped by the experience though. That should be saved for another place.

If you're really worried you might want to run it by Zanev or Canuck first. I remember that happened occasionally as far back as the days of the old blue Dreambook-esque version of the site if someone was afraid their story pushed the boundaries.
