TUGs Stories - POLL

Postby bondagefreak » Sun Dec 22, 2013 6:54 am

There seems to be a lack of cohesion between users. Some want to read long chapters and don't seem to mind waiting for the production. Others seem to prefer shorter but more regular chapters.
I want to see the stats in number. What's your personal preference? Are shorter, more regular chapters necessary to keep your attention or do you find it pays off waiting for larger chapters?

I think it is the decision of the writer how often he adds chapters and how long the parts are. I, as a reader, have not the right to tell him how he shall write his story. I can comment his work to encourage him to continue and to show him that someone is reading his story. And then I can only hope to see a new chapter from time to time and to get a completed story some day.

To your question: I prefer long chapters no matter of the intervals between. The most important is that there will be new chapters.

I don't think it matters that much, as a well-written story is going to be good no matter what. But if you have to err one way or the other, go with longer sections. It can be a bit awkward if the action suddenly stops right in the middle of something, especially if it happens a lot in the story.

I mainly make chapters the length logic dictates for the most effective telling of a story, and how far apart they are based on how much time i have to write them and how much feedback i get to encourage me. Little feedback will prompt longer waits and no feedback will usually mean the story doesn't get continued at all. Also depends on how good i feel, and so on.

What did you expect from this crowd? Other than our love for TUGs, we're as diverse a group as is imaginable! :D

I'd venture a SWAG that it would depend on the length of the story. Some have experiences or stories that can be told in one or two pages. Others write "novels" of 20-40 pages. If it's short, post it in full. If it's long, post a chapter or two every 3-7 days.

This thread is bit old, but I want to give my input anyway,

Really, if the story is good, then I will read it. Yea, I tend to read stories that are shorter, simply because I read in intervals and I can find stopping places better if it is broken into smaller segments when I need a break. But a writer needs to write the way he/she feels comfortable. I try to find a middle ground when writing: long enough to say what I needed to say but short enough for the same reasons why I prefer shorter stories.
