thread suggestions

Postby rocketroy » Sun Oct 26, 2014 6:18 pm

hello I think that maybe a thread just for stories about being caught would be good. maybe have this as a sub heading under each section and maybe a section just for self bondage. does anyone agree with me on this?

Personally speaking, things are complicated enough. No more fragmentisation, please.

I've reached the point where anything else I add to the site will just confuse the hell out of people. The way the site is set up now is a direct result of suggestions, but I need to draw a line somewhere. Sorry.

no its fine there is no need to apologise at all. the site should be designed the way it is to function for the many not for the one. I feel I should clarify, I wouldn't want you to make the site confusing for others just so it would be easy for me because that would be selfish, also it wasn't a request I was making it was just an idea that came to me and I wanted to see what people opinions would be on this topic.

What would really help without complicating life for anyone else is if people voluntarily put things like that in their title to attract readers to their stories. Too many people put no thought at all to their titles and come up with something dull and unimaginative like My First Story or An Embarrassing Day or something equally uninformative. If instead they titled them Self-Tie Gone Wrong or Evil Big Sister Ties Little Brother Up, or otherwise put as much info as possible into their titles, including using say M/M of F/F or whatever, I think they would likely attract more readers to their stories (assuming they were written with any skill at all).
Titles make make a huge difference in a story's popularity.

Jason I agree with you so much. it takes me forever to find these stories because people put titles like first time or someones name or something and it doesn't attract people to your story very much. I am probably guilty of this too however

I agree with this 100%. I know I've skipped stories simply because the titles didnt catch my interest. A title is sort of like an advertiser to your story. It is what your reader will see first before even reading the first paragraph, so you have to make the title count. But I will also say this: sometimes its tough to come up with a good title. I know I have to think a while when I'm titling my stories and chapters. Even then I sometimes don't feel confident with my final choice. Of course, other times a title comes to me right away..

Yes it is; in fact it's been said by many a writer (including, I believe, Mark Twain) that coming up with the title is often the hardest part of the entire work. But it's also widely acknowledged to be one of the most important.

yeah I don't know how many stories I have skipped because the title isn't very good.

Whilst I appreciate the argument I ought, in fairness, to point out that my most popular story ( viewtopic.php?f=36&t=7584 ) has a really naff title but it is still visited more often than any of my newer stories.

I think you're wrong about the quality of your story's title, xtc. At least to me, the title is unusual and made me curious enough to read the story to see what the land farmers and sailor boys (two things that sound like they have little in common) do when they interact.
Don't get me wrong; there are problems with the story - the difficulty in keeping track of characters being one. There are so many of them, they have no really distinctive characteristics that one can readily keep in mind, and too many times are referred to by alternate names (it's confusing when , say one character is referred to at various times as (and I am making this part up here because I didn't and couldn't keep it all straight myself and haven't read the story in a long time) Action Man, Tony (or whatever AM's name actually was), or as 'the ginger-haired boy' or as so-and-so's brother. That's fine when you only have three or four characters. When you have well over a dozen in two competing camps all doing different things to different people at the same time, well... it gets awfully bewildering. Some of your descriptions of various set-ups are a tad hard to visualize too... at least for me... and make it hard to tell what is going on sometimes.
But the title was actually a good one imo.

Oh well, that should effectively put anyone else off from reading it!

Jason, I remember you saying the same thing about A Game of TUGs. It has many characters as well, and you had trouble keeping up with it. But just because a story has issues like that doesn't mean its not worth reading. I think I my go give that one a read, XTC. :)

Well now, I never said it wasn't worth reading. xtc facetiously said no one would read it now, not me. I agree more with you Chadmc90; it IS worth reading. :quirk:

Thanks for that, Jason, sincerely. I really didn't need that previous remark just there.

Thanks for the support as well, Chad.

I guess I sorta made the case that the title isn't everything, either. 8)
