Don't know if this question's been asked before, but what's your favorite video games?

My personal favorites are Skyrim and Civilization 4 and 5.

The only lego game I've ever played is "Harry Potter years 1 - 4." Wasn't overly impressed so I eventually stopped playing. Ocarina of Time and Super Mario world are instant classics in my book. And Pacman? Haha.

My absolute favorite of all time is Final Fantasy Tactics.

Other than that... Dragon Quest VIII and Kingdom Hearts.

Then there's the oldschool stuff that I still play to this day like Doom. :D

Never played Arcanum but I took a Game Design class this past semester that used Arcanum as an example to explain a concept.

Good suggestions, guys.

Yep, this is definitely a tried and true classic. I'll also add:

Starcraft (the original, but hot damn are the new versions killer)

Goldeneye (for the countless hours spent on multiplayer alone)

The Gears of War series (specifically part two)

Resident Evil 1-4

Right now I only play two video games. I spend a lot of timing playing GTA Online on the PS3 and Armored Core Verdict Day.... really into the giant robo mecha franchise.

Really wish I still had my 360 though to play some Halo 4.

Yes, Goldeneye's multiplayer was great, and the single-player mode was pretty good too. Although I may never forgive it for that one mission you have to protect Natalya while she's hacking into the Goldeneye satellite.

The original Resident Evil games were cool. The newer ones...not as much but they were enjoyable. My personal favorite out of that series has to be either Code Veronica and RE2. I remember in 2 that Giant Alligator scared me shitless! A definite classic for the N64!

I also remember Golden Eye, but I didn't get a chance to play it much. I actually played 007: The World Is Not Enough on the N64 back in those days. Golden Eye may still be better, but I remember that me and my cousins and brother spent countless hours killing AI's and each other in MP. Those were the days...

Ocarina of Time was the best in the Zelda series. Again, another N64 game. It was certainly one of my favorite systems of all time!

Goldeneye is more of a classic, but The World is Not Enough was a great game too. I actually thought the single-player to it was probably a bit better. Multiplayer wasn't quite as good but was pretty good, and you had the option to play with AI players on it.

My best zelda's would be Majora's mask and wind waker. Majora's mask took what was great about Ocarina and added its own unique flavor, the most unique one of any Zelda. Wind waker just had so much charm i gladly overlooked any wrongs it had and its HD remake is gorgeous

I have a lot of fond memories of the N64. The two Zelda's, Lylat wars, DK 64, goldeneye, the original smash bros, Mario kart, Goeman and Banjo Tooie all gave me some wonderfull childhood memories. I do think that particular gen aged worse then the ones before or after.

Yea those zelda games were awesome as well. I especially loved Wind Waker on the gamecube. I loved traveling on the high seas; it was just amazing to me. I feel those are definitely the most unique in the series. I do feel like the Wind Waker wasn't given as much credit as it should have.

Yea, the N64 occupied most of my childhood gaming memories. DK 64, smash bros, and Mario Kart were all good games, along with the two zeldas.

I don't have much hope for Nintendo to ever returning to it's original glory back in these days......

The games are still up there.

New super mario bros WII-u and DK tropical freeze are games still with the same rock solid quality you expect from a Nintendo game. Its everything else that's causing trouble. Mostly their marketing which is kinda shit and their relationship with third parties is messed up.

They also can't compete with Sony and Microsoft in the long run. Those two are behemoth organisations dealing in all sorts of stuff. Nintendo just has games. I think that is the reason they do their own thing rather then partake in the graphic race, because they know they can only lose.

Exactly. Their relationship with third parties IS mostly their fault. They simply fail to communicate well with third parties, especially in understanding how their consoles work. If your developers don't know how to work with your system, then they will simply abandon it and go to the other two giants. The only reason I would even buy another Nintendo system is when the next Zelda comes along, seeing as that's my favorite one out of all Nintendo games. And I really don't like spending $200 to $300 dollars to play just a few games.

Smash Bros is another one of my all time favorites as well. I just love the unique fighting system it has and the range of characters that appear.

Well, the third parties aren't blameless either. There's a consistent rumor going on that EA has a grudge against Nintendo because they didn't want their shitty origin service on the WII-U which is why it doesn't release games about it and try to slander it. I'd say EA has a bad enough reputation to make it pretty likely.

I also got the distinct feeling they didn't even try to support the WII-U and then blames Nintendo for their games not selling on it.

I was hesitant to buy the Wii-u as well until it got things that i wanted but always knew i would buy it eventually. Even if its just for Nintendo's own games because i wouldn't want to miss those games. Not buying a Nintendo console would cutt me off from to many series i like very much. Perhaps it would be better for them to go third party so people don't have to buy a console just for them...although maybe that would make it harder to keep focusing on niche stuff like fire emblem.

Luckily the 3ds is doing much better and also has plenty of gems on it. Most or my top 10 of 2013 came from the 3ds

EA is all around a bad company anyway. They are very overrated and only have a select few games I actually enjoy(Dead Space, primarily). They make the worst design decisions with their games. They also have a habit of buying out successful studios and then kicking out the developers/etc. that made the studio successful.

Yea I haven't bought a next gen console yet. I'm still stuck on my PS3/Wii which I haven't played in a long time due to schoolwork. One thing Nintendo is successful in is the handheld market.

I don't think EA is overrated per say. Everyone seems to hate them. With good reasons.

[quoteThey make the worst design decisions with their games][/quote]

Like dumbing everything down and making it more like Call of duty. An interesting theory behind it is that the ones in charge don't know a thing about video games so they don't look further then COD sales and thus don't realize that approach doesn't work with every genre. Oh and forcing things to be always online and not working

They also have a habit of buying out successful studios and then kicking out the developers/etc. that made the studio successful

For the longest time i knew EA as ''The guys that killed dungeon keeper'' Then they revived it and i disliked them MORE.

Image

I wonder how long that success will last with the rise of mobile gaming. I don't think the existing users will be decreasing per se because the quality difference of the game is just that big but it does prevent their handhelds from growing

I never really got into the Pokemon games. The closest experience with Pokemon games was with Pokemon Stadium back on the N64. I did enjoy that one but didn't get the chance to play it much because the game was borrowed from a friend. The only other experience was with the Trading Card games. But I didn't even get into those to play them much.

And from what little I saw of the anime I wasn't impressed with it....
