I prefer cloth cleave gags (bandanas, etc) for the asthetics, and also because, in an emergency, they can be easily pushed away with the tongue. Stuffing the mouth with another bandana, socks, etc., carries with it the chance for choking, or inadvertently swallowing, or trying to swallow it. Preferred, would be to tie a knot in the middle of the bandana.
I am of the opinion that the person being tied (and gagged) should be having as much fun as the person doing the tying. Severe discomfort is, shall we say, "not in my playbook."
At the first sign of any distress, the "captive" should be released, even over his/her objections, and there should never be a delay in releasing someone when he asks to be untied for any reason.
Bottom line, is that the first consideration is safety, above all else. The second consideration, is that all concerned have a good time. Remember: When it stops being fun, it starts being abuse, and that is never acceptable.
