UK spending and defence review

I'll start with a one lineer: It is a risky and almost stupid decision to have an aircraft carrier w/o aircraft.

This is as dumb as the US scrapping the space shuttle program- without having an alternate vehicle to transport astronauts to and from the ISS.

So... Britain has killed the Harrier program, right? And Britain's carriers can only accommodate copters and jump jets, right? Ouch. It's damn hard to project military might globally without carriers, though Cameron still maintains that the UK will retain its status as a top tier military power.... he's delusional. No carrier capability until 2019 is just nuts. Maybe we can loan them one

I actually think that it's quite common for the planes of allies to land on each other's carriers. In fact, one of the justifications for mothballing the Ark Royal was that it can't be accessed by the planes of NATO allies- especially France.

There's too much of the world that relies on the US to mount a serious defense if the shit were to hit the fan (i.e. a Kim Jong style wack-job wielding a heavily militarized China), when we can't even get our own ducks in a row.

Good point..... I would just hate to see the UK be reduced to a second-rate military power.

I have an alternative to spending all that money on hardware with built-in obsolescence.
Get 60 miliion cards printed with the equivalent of "I surrender" printed in all the world's major languages and distribute them to everyone in the country.

A little simplistic perhaps and not original but someone hasd to keep the "Old Hippie" flag flying.
