Part 6 -
"Umm, Anna? You ready to go?"
Anna had been sitting at the desk in the room, her brush in her hand, and looking at herself in the mirror.
She didn't reply to me.
I walked over to her. "Anna?"
She stood up and turned around to face me. She looked great, with perfect makeup and a beautiful dress, as I said earlier. She was wearing heels but not hugely high like you see at high school parties. No, these were more like sandals, with straps that bound them to her feet.
She looked into my eyes. "Jon, do you think I'm pretty?"
I was shocked by the question. "Anna, you're not merely pretty, you're beautiful."
She smiled: a beautiful, happy smile that almost broke my heart. "You're sweet. So much nicer than your friend."
I sighed. "What did Robbie say?"
A tear welled in her eye. "It was yesterday. Chloe almost beat him up for saying it, but I told her to leave it."
I touched her arm. "Anna, what did he say?"
A tear dripped from her eye and fell onto the floor. "He said I wasn't pretty enough to get a man, so I couldn't have a good life. He went on to call me fat, ugly and repulsive. He finished off by saying I'd have to become a nun, seeing as no-one would want me."
I was utterly devasted by this. "Anna..."
I stepped close to hug her, but she didn't give me the chance. She wrapped her arms tightly round my neck and buried her face in my shoulder, tears flowing freely.
I stroked her hair and led her over to the bed, where I sat down next to her. Holding her hands, I looked into her damp eyes and said, "Anna, first of all, don't take any notice of that idiot. He doesn't like girls as a rule, I don't think it was personal. Secondly, you don't need a guy in your life to be successful. You've got a fantastic personality and everyone in their right mind would like you! But if what he says hurts you that much, I swear to you that you are most perfect, beautiful girl that I could ever have asked to the dance tonight." I touched her cheek. "But it's not just your looks that I love, it's YOU. Everything about you. Everything."
She looked at me, her hand on her heart. "Jon...that was so sweet. God, I wish I'd recorded that so I could hear it again." She dried her eyes. "I don't deserve a guy like you, you know that?"
I snorted. "That's ridiculous. It's me who doesn't deserve a girl like-"
She silenced my by leaning forward and kissing me on the lips.
It was quick, but it was magical nonetheless. And it made me so happy.
Anna took my hand. "Come on, let's go." She smirked. "You can close your mouth now, Jon."
