A need to get this off my chest

Postby chloroformmeplease » Thu Aug 05, 2010 5:08 am

I know I have asked people to continue with their unfinished stories here. Some of them have and some of them have not. I have unfinished stories but I am seriously sick and tired of people making rude comments to myself and others about their stories.

People, including myself more then likely do not wish to be pressured into finishing their stories because someone is growing impatient. Please realize that we all have lives outside this and other forums. We all experience hardships and set backs in our lives and sometimes we just don't feel like being creative.

I know others can speak for themselves and they should do so. I am speaking up for myself right now. When I feel the urge to complete any of my stories I will and not a moment sooner. I am going through some not so pleasant things right now so please stop the rude comments and the PM's asking me to finish a project or send something via PM. When things get better for me I will do this all at my own pace. Thank you.

If any of you have ever felt pressured by me to complete your stories please forgive me. I am sincerely sorry if I have ever made any feel the way some have made me feel.
Treat others as you wish to be treated. Having said that I will not sit idly by while someone is disrespecting another just because they think they are better than everyone else.

I know how you feel- and all advice I can give to you is, don't let them get you.
What bugged me, too, was that most people criticising have never written themselves. I had my time of a "writers blockade", we all have other things to do,too.
Take care about your own life about anything else...I wish you all the best.

Yes chloroform, I totally agree with you on this one.. You cannot justify how annoying it can get when people are literally 'forcing' you to complete a story or collection of stories. I have a few unfinished stories on here, I simply cannot be dealing with right now, my life is stressful at this time, with results day coming up, possible university in September... which will probably see my fall on this board... because I will be concentrating on getting my degree not filling my needs on this board.

People should not apply pressure to us writers on the board, we will go at our own pace and will complete our stories when we feel the time is right for us, not because you want us to finish them.... if you are that desperate try writing a story yourself... or look at other people's stories to attend your daily needs... adding pressure to us, wont make us crack and say we must get this done.... because simply this is a board, and what ever we post on the board... is probably for our own pleasure... we enjoy posting them, but when members become too 'needy' it can become quite irritating! :)

Cloro,
Take your time. Surely a lot of the pleasure is in the anticipation?

The other annoying thing is when you write story and all people can say is "more please". I'm not expecting a full review but a few comments likes/dislikes is always nice to hear. I've written a couple of stories but i might have retired now due to the lack of enthusiasm and respect.

As I said I have asked other writers to continue with their stories but pressure and more pressure just sucks. Yes I write at my own pace and lately with stress in my life I cannot concentrate to write a good story. I do not wish for my finished work to be sketchy. I take pride in writing my stories and everyone else should also when writing theirs.

No one is perfect and as i said in my first post in this thread I am sorry to those who ever felt pressured by me to finish a story. For those who pressure kindly let us know you like our stories and wish to see more but please be fair because this forum is not my life it is merely a small part of it.

BG, I do love reading your stories and I anticipate your next chapters but by all means take your time and do your schooling which is most important. Thanks to all of you who are in support of this thread. I seriously do appreciate those who appreciate my writings here. I will someday eventually finish all that I have started but when I do is up to me and I will do it when some stress goes away. Who knows when that will be and yes I have experienced some writers block. It happens to us all. Please be safe and enjoy your weekend. :big:

I think there's a difference between those who say "can you please write more" or "I hope you write more stories" and those who say "hurry up and finish" or something along those lines. I've only written a few stories here and have seen both types of responses so I can't imagine what it's like for someone who writes a lot of stories. It is annoying to see but I usually just ignore them.

That is so true. People need to have patience for people to finish stories. You don't know what is going on with the author's life. Maybe they are traveling, and has no access to a computer. Prehaps their computer broke down and they need to fix it. Maybe they are going through hardships in their lives and is unable to complete a story because of it. So, give them time to finish instead of nagging them to complete it.

Quality in writing only comes when you *enjoy* what you are doing. I feel it is pointless for anyone to write for others otherwise.
Your writing has been of very high quality, and you obviously enjoy what you do - most of the time, anyway. Don't let anyone change that.
I myself have had a rather dramatic increase in my workload outside this site, and I am understanding quite well where you are coming from with this.
I think anyone here with any real writing experience understands this, really.
Your own life's needs come first. The rest of us can wait until you have the time and the need to continue telling us your stories.
I am sure the majority of your readers support you in this.
May you always find enjoyment in your writing. :D

I have to 100% agree to Jason, he put it into good words.

Just a flash thought for us writers...what about putting a [finished] tag in the subject of the story once it's done? That way, people who don't want to read unfinished stories can avoid them, saving themselves (and possible for you, too) some stress.

Cheers

edit: even better perhaps a [unfinished] if its work in progress, a [finished] when it's done. Then it's all obvious for everyone.

Ummm, can you change the subject tag once it has been written? Some people have reported trying that (to fix typos) and being unable to do this. I never tried myself so do not know personally. Individial post's subject line at least I know I can change; I have done that. Did it here in fact. Not sure about the one that is seen in the table of contents however.

To change the subject line in the table of contents: you need to edit the *first* post in that thread and change the subject there.
It works, I did that during some of the last stories I posted.
