Request for a knot

Postby BranBTAT » Tue May 28, 2013 3:45 pm

EDIT: I have created a tie that works here: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=20614&p=139358#p139358

Does anyone have a knot that will allow me easily shorten a rope one-handed but not re-lengthen it when tugged on? I'm considering trying a spread-eagle tie but have no way to get my hands tight. I know about the "two ring device" but I don't have any rings and it seems it may be hard to undo under load and I know the traditional way is to use a sheepshank knot but that looks hard one-handed, can't be changed easily, and falls apart easily. I did some rope-tossing wizardry this morning and created something that seems to work. I can slide the knot both ways when I grab it, but tugging on the line does not allow it to move. Wondering if there is any other ideas. When combined with the knot on my cuffs (tumble hitch), I should be able to get the above rope tight and pull the black end on the cuff rope to release them.

Could you combine the hitch you've used with a harvester's hitch (truck driver's hitch)? That should be easy to tenion by pulling on one end but the mecahnical adavantage created might secure it if the weight (strain) is taken on the other. Might not work, might be worth a try.
Boxer shorts are cool,
but little speedos rule!

Darn, my fancy creation didn't work one-handed. Thanks for the idea xtc. It's such a simple tie to create, I don't know how it didn't come to me before.

A modified trucker's hitch seems to work. Running the working end around the cuff and the loop several times (instead of once, as usual), a multi-line pulley is created which can be pulled to tighten, but the load and friction make it difficult to loosen. Just need to find a way to incorporate the tumble hitch release into the system using the same rope (I hate having to run another line) and I should be set. I think it is possible to fully incorporate an entire system into one rope consisting of the pulley system, a rope cuff, and a release. It will probably be quite the piece of art if I can create it.

Someone has too much free time... I have created the entire system using a single piece of rope  (engineering degree is useful for something). Everything from the securing loop (to attach to bed or similar) to the pulley system and onto the cuff; its all one piece. I think its quite stunning and nice looking :big:. It seems to be versatile. It works for a spread eagle, Y-tie, an I-tie (???) either laying or standing in addition to serving as a method to raise arms above head while standing/kneeling (hogtie maybe too).

It may not be obvious but pulling the middle rope causes the upper cuff knot to cinch closer to the left side (attach point) through a pulley system, stopping at where the pull rope is. Pulling on the cuff does not allow it to loosen (essentially a ratcheting/one-way system) so there is no reason to tie off the pull rope to keep it tight. This allows one-handed operation to tension the cuff (in a self-bondage position, the hand in the cuff can pull the rope during the TUG). Replacing the one-column tie on the ankle with a removable cuff should be trivial and would allow for a "pull to release" line directly on the cuff. Hopefully someone other than me can make use of it.
