Eva was running through the woods, terrified. Hot on her heals were two men. If they were to catch her, she knew she would be in a lot of trouble. It was in the 16th century and they had just captured her older sister and now they were going to catch her! She felt her skirt snagging on some twigs, but she just kept on running.
Suddenly, she felt someone grabbing her from behind. She screamed and kicked as best she could, but the man clamped a hand around her mouth, grabbed her by the waist and dragged her into a cave. She was pushed to the ground and the man tied her hands behind her back. Then he shoved a cloth in her mouth and tied another strip around her head, making it impossible for her to scream. Although the ropes didn’t hurt her, she started crying from fear. He came around in front of her and started tying her legs together. Then he told her not to be frightened and that he actually was going to save her! He was only going to keep her tied up for her own security and/or for as long as it was necessary for the men that followed her to loose interest in the hunt. He helped her to sit up against the wall of the cave and went out to check on what was happening.
When he returned he untied her hands, but then he quickly retied them in front of her. He then untied her legs and helped her to her feet.
“As long as you are in this cave,†he told her “you will at least have your hands tied at all times. You can move around this cave as much as you want, but I won’t let you leave, until some friends of mine returns from a hunt they‘ve been on.â€
“Who are you?†Eva asked in a frightened voice.
“My name is not important,†the man said. “Come over here and start preparing a meal!†he added.
“How am I supposed to do that, with my hands tied like this?†Eva asked.
The man frowned and said “I don’t know! Just do it!â€
Eva, somehow, managed to prepare some kind of a meal, which they ate sitting on the floor of the cave. The rest of the day she spent with her hands tied together in front of her and at night she was told to lie down on a heap of blankets in the back of the cave. Again, the man tied her ankles together, “so she wouldn’t run away and get in all sorts of trouble during the night!†as the man said.
As soon as he left her, Eva tried to get free, but she soon noticed she couldn’t. She drifted into a light sleep and by the next morning the man once again freed her legs and told her to prepare breakfast. Then he told her, she was going to get out of the cave later that day, when his friends arrived.
Sure enough, later in the morning two men came by and she was lead out of the cave. To her surprise, she wasn’t untied, but instead the men gagged her and put handcuffs on her and a chain around her waist. Then they lead her out of the woods and to the nearby town. In the harbour she was lead to a ship and was told to go a board. She was taken below the deck and pushed onto a wooden bed to which she was chained with her hands held by a chain above her hands. She realized, to her horror, that slave traders had captured her!
At that point, Eva woke up, drenched in sweat alongside her sister. “Thank God, it was only a bad dream!†she thought as she drifted off to sleep once again, rocked by the movement of the ship in her bunk below the deck.
The end?
