Research on canvas straitjackets

Postby Liz » Fri Aug 04, 2017 12:08 am

Hi there,

I'm writing a story that includes a straitjacket scene and have some specific questions about straitjackets that I like to resolve to get the details in the story right. Sadly, I never had the chance to try one, so I need help from people who tested them.

Specifically, im interested in Posey straitjackets or very similar canvas ones and my questions are this:
How long can you wear it when the straps are not so tight? And how long if the straps are as tight as possible? Do you get shoulder aches or something?
How does the fabric feel on the inside if you wear it on naked skin? Is it rough or smooth, stiff or soft? Are there canvas straitjackets with lining?
Do you get warm when you wear one?
If you lie down on your back, do the buckles poke inro your back or can you lie more or less comfortably on solid ground?

I've found some old threads but couldn't really find answers to my questions, apart from the point that straitjackets seem to be more comfortable than you might think at first.

Any help is appreciated.

As I think, there are many types of S-jackets.
At the moment I know four sources for that (or equal) type.
Posey
Max cita
Humane restraint
No escape

At least from the last one I have seen many types made by order and by exact measurement and pattern from the customer.
I'm sure, that's possible to order a jacket with all bulky things in the front and a plain back.

(PS: translated from german with a german head.)
Be prepared!!! !! !!!

German head is putting german thoughts in English words!

:D
