Why this "shall i continue" threads?

Postby Fesselfan » Tue Feb 26, 2008 1:22 am

Hi all,

just a short question, why do so many ppl post polls if they should write on their stories?
This is pointless. You can see how many hits your story gets- most people are silent readers, anyway (means they don't post).

In my eyes, it's just ego cuddling and fishing for compliments. Because of this, I will vote "no" on every poll like this from now on, regardless of how I like the stoy. If you want to tell a story just for compliments, not for the stories sake, it's wrong in my eyes.

Cheers

There are 10 kind of people in the world.
Those who understand binary numeral system, and those who don't.

I agree. WTF is wrong with these people. writing 'do you want me to continue' at the end of a story might be just insecurity or mild comment whoring, but opening a thread for it is plain spamming.

While we're complaining about some of the writers, I'd like to point out that since we migrated to this domain the 'one story one thread' rule seems to have gone forgotten....

I know I'm late but this Shall I continue is still going on and I think it's the insecurity you see 600 Views and no comments... :P Myself in General I really don't care if people Comment or not....

I am guilty of this. My self i am very insecure about stories i write and no mater how i look at them they never sound good to me. Any time i do ask this on any site its me fishing for advice with out actually asking for it (if that makes any sense). If it do bug people i guess i could take that as advice of some thing not to do.

I agree that, generally those who say: if you don't beg, then I won't post are arrogant. However, I've found myself doing it recently. Parlty because it's nice to get some response. Quite apart from massaging my own ego, it is the only "reward" I get. I work hard to get my stories right and don't just enter the first ungrammatical splurgings that spill from my keyboard. Also, if I'm posting things people don't like, I'm not only wasting my time but also theirs! Yes, to a large extent it's insecurity but out of say 600+ "hits", which I suppose represents 200 individuals AT MOST, surely some of them must have opinions which could either increase my SQ (smugness quotient) or help me improve my writing.

Diatribe ends!
