Damn, it was hot. I felt the sun start to sear my bikini-clad body as I stepped outside. You would think that being closer to the North Pole than the equator would have its benefits in summer, but apparently not. I stopped at the borderline of my family’s grass lawn and the sand beach of Lake Michigan and stuck my foot out to test the temperature. I held it on the sand for a few seconds before I had to remove it. Shit, I thought. It was a good few leaps across the sand to reach the water, but the sand felt like hot coals on the pads of my feet. The longer I stood there debating on what to do, the more I felt the sun’s rays beating down. I sighed, and quickly removed my sarong. I took a few steps backward before charging towards the lake. Ow, ow, ow, I winced with each landing of my foot on the sand. I got to the water and let out another sigh, but this one of relief. The cool waves lapped against my calves, and I waded in until I was up to my neck. This felt nice.
I kept my head up in order to view my surroundings. Boats were speeding past in every direction, some with skiers or tubers trailing behind them. I heard the excited shill of children’s voices and smiled. There was nothing quite like catching the perfect wave and flying high. Our own boat was tied to a sunken, cement-filled tire a few feet behind me. It bobbed gently in the waves, and I saw a cluster of lifejackets, skis, tow rope and towels within it. We had been out on the lake all morning, and everyone besides me was resting in the air-conditioning. Our water trampoline was anchored farther out into the lake so that we could jump and dive off of it without fear of hurting ourselves, and various water guns were thrown on top of it for now.
I pushed myself up so that I was floating on my back, and drifted peacefully for a few minutes until I heard my cell phone ring. It held a specific ringtone for some people, and by this one I determined that it was him. It was Roy. I smirked and thought that he was most likely lost. He had absolutely no sense of direction. I let it go to voicemail and spent a few more minutes out in the water before I swam back to shore. I took my leaps across the sand once again, and grabbed a towel off of a hammock before retrieving my phone. I listened to his message, but it simply said that he was almost here. I chuckled and felt slightly ashamed about my previous thoughts. My ears picked up the sound of a bass coming from the second floor of our house, and I smiled again. Out of my four brothers and three guy friends that were currently vacationing with us, I was the only female young adult. It would be an interesting week with all of us together to say the least. Having Roy here would only make it better. Along with the weather’s heat, maybe we could make some heat of our own. A pleasant shiver ran through me as I thought of his naked body, and with a sort of sexual desire I went inside to get ready for his arrival.
