Each person is different, so what one person may tolerate, or even enjoy, someone else might consider unpleasant.
When I was young, we tried to keep it fun by applying rules, such as no one would be tied up for longer than 20 minutes, unless he expressly said to let him have more time to try and escape. The top limit, was 45 minutes. And, if someone asked to be untied, for whatever reason, it was done right away, no questions asked.
In any case, don't go beyond, or even stretch, the limits which have been agreed upon beforehand. And, as I have previously stated, TUGs are supposed to be fun for everyone concerned. When it stops being fun, it becomes abuse. That is never good.
We also liked it more, if more than one of us was tied. The theory, was that "danger" (even though there wasn't any) and adventure, were always more fun if they were shared with a friend.
