Pokémon Orange Version - by Pia Carrot, aka PiaCRT, aka Kuroko Aizawa (v. abb2882) for Game Boy Color

Intro:

Welcome to the world of Pokémon!

Pokémon Orange is a Crystal hack by Pia Carrot/Kuroko Aizawa. The aim of this hack is not only to create a great Orange Islands hack, but also to give me experience to work on Ancient Platinum and raise it to an even higher standard.

I started hacking 8 years ago after playing Pokémon Naranja on a cartridge, and since then I've always wanted to see a good Orange Islands hack completed. However, it's never happened to this extent, so I've decided to take matters into my own hands.

Story:

You are a kid from Valencia Island who wants to become a Pokémon Master, after hearing about a kid the same age named Red defeating the Indigo League 6 months ago. You set out on a journey to deliver the mysterious GS Ball to the esteemed Samson Oak, who is visiting the Orange Islands from the Alola region and to take on the Orange Crew! Play as Indigo or Orange, explore, fight goofy villains and walk into a fresh and nostalgic world to learn more about the wonderful world of Pokémon and to Catch 'em All!

Note: This hack is discontinued due to its code base being too old for further updates. The game is being re imagined in a new engine being made from the ground up (its still a Crystal Hack).
Be on the look out for Pokemon Orange: Island Walker for further updates!

----

This is a ROM hack of Pokémon Crystal.

To patch the ROM, apply movie-2000-pss.ips or movie-2000-no-pss.ips to a clean Pokemon - Crystal Version (UE) (V1.0) [C][!].gbc ROM. (This is usually no longer recommended, see below)

For the latest version (usually recommended, but may have unknown bugs), download the latest nightly build from https://github.com/PiaCarrot/pokeorange/releases/tag/beta-nightly

If you would like the Physical-Special Split introduced in Generation 4, it is recommended to use the Movie-2000 build of the game. This is missing some of the newer music and some other changes, but there are some quirks and game breaking bugs in the nightly PSS builds. If you still want to experience the newer content, it is highly recommended to save frequently and make backups, you may also want to join the Discord in case you need support.

----

This is the current Pokémon Orange beta release. The assets all have an 8-character "commit hash" at the end to identify the exact code they're built from.

The .gbc assets are ROMs. If you just want to play the game, download one (regular or -pss) and load it in BGB, mGBA, Gambatte, or another accurate Game Boy Color emulator. (Do not use VBA or VBA-M.)

The .sym assets are "symbol files". They're useful for debugging, or for discovering cheat codes, although cheats are not officially supported and may cause bugs or crashes. (Do not ask the developers for cheat codes.)

The orangedebug assets are ROMs and symbol files with extra features to help debug the game. Do not open these to just play with; use them to help the developers diagnose and fix bugs, or create new features.
