Israel, the Kurds and the Creation of Kurdistan

Before Saddam Hussein went after the Kurds in the 1980s – most famously in the Anfal genocide – they were a people that were barely known outside of the Middle East and then usually only because the great Muslim general Saladin is believed to have been one.

With the advent of Syrian Civil War and more specifically the rise of Islamic State and its drive north and the genocide of the Yazidis; the Kurds gained a never before seen level of international recognition with innumerable media puff pieces by written about them and their soldiers in their battle with the jihadis.

The Kurds have been quick to capitalise on this in trying to establish an independent state – something they have been trying to do for more than a century – which they are pleased to call Kurdistan.

Any diligent researcher would quickly note however that the Kurds are actually engaged in a piece of imperialism in that they have admitted that they want to conquer Mosul – not a historically Kurdish area but rather a mixed one with an awful lot of Assyrian Christians [long the subject of organised ethnic cleansing by the Kurds] – (1) so that they can gain Mosul’s large oil revenues to enrich the prospective independent state of Kurdistan. (2)

Interestingly Israel – with its ethnic cleansing of the Palestinians during the War of Independence/Nakba – is the model that the Kurds are using both to gain independence (i.e. via politically-motivated terrorism and the use of ethnic cleansing) and propagandistically because they recognise the fundamental power of the Israeli brand in the United States in particular. (3)

Israel has reciprocated the Kurds interest by supporting the Kurds in their goal for independence (4) as well as being the first and as yet only state to officially recognise an independent Kurdistan. (5)

This is despite fierce opposition to such an idea from Iran, Iraq, Syria and Turkey - who all would prospectively lose swathes of territory - as well as Russia and the United States. (6)

The jewish state’s logic is not difficult to discern. Iran and Syria are avowed enemies of Israel, while Iraq has traditionally been an enemy and Turkey is probably the biggestmilitary threat to Israel in the region outside of Iran. During the Syrian Civil War; Israel has long sought to divide and weaken these countries, but Iran, Iraq and Syria in particular because they are significant regional threats. (7)

Indeed Israel has long seen the Kurdish aspirations to independence as being a key to its goal of a Israel-dominated Middle East (8) and as long ago as the 1960s and 1970s the Mossad were arming Kurdish guerrillas and terrorists to promote this vision via the mechanism of creating internal instability in their enemies territories. (9) This appears to have begun afresh by 2010 and continued to the present time, (10) which means that not only is Israel arming terrorists but is happily enabling the ethnic cleansing of the Assyrian Christians by the Kurds.

Thus it is little surprise that the Israeli media (11) and its fanatical partisans abroad – such as Alan Dershowitz – (12) have suddenly ‘discovered’ the ‘righteous cause’ of the Kurds. That has been frankly labelled as being ‘hollow’ by the Times of Israel (13) and which is clearly part of a jewish-led plot – along with continuing to demand that the United States topples Syrian President Bashar al-Assad with a ground invasion – (14) to improve Israel’s regional position in the wake of its failure of its Islamic State and Syrian Rebel proxies.
